Dear tech enthusiasts, A couple of years back I've bought the HP 15 ae123nd laptop with a 4k screen, i7 processor and Nvidia GeForce GTX 950M. I thought those were pretty good specs at the time for a laptop. But when I bought it I immediately saw some drawback with especially the performance aspect. Recently I started watching Linus's channels on YouTube and started to focus more on what could be wrong with my laptop. So a week back a downloaded cinebench and my results with this particular laptop are around 170. To my knowledge, which is considerably low, I think this still is a REALLY bad score for theses specs. So this is the reason I'm making this post. Can you help me giving your expertise and experience to solve my 'problem' with the performance on my laptop. How am I able to fix this or make this better? Have I just been unlucky with a bad CPU or is there some other issue going on? Please help, Thijs

Hi Guys, I am from Germany and I bought last year an Hp 250 G6 with a processor i5-7200U CPU and 8 GB of ram. The system is operating on 64-bit. The hard disk is an wdc wd10jpvx-60jc3t1. My problem is that my computer is operating very slow. When you start a program like steam the hard disk performance jump from like 10% to 100% for a matter of 2 minutes until it stabilize again to 0% to 14%. It is worse when you run a high standard program or a game. Running Cities skylines on the worst resolution might lead you to enjoy an fps of 19 and it will run continuously 100% disk performance on task manager. I tried many tricks from the internet for a better disk performance like disabling windows search and superfetch but it didn't work. HP and Microsoft support are clueless or terribly bad to help my. So Guys can you help my please? love, thatgerman

I was given an HP Pavilion p7-1534 a little while back, it's been my main PC for some light gaming and music through my surround sound speakers. Recently I took up editing videos for a friend and getting into some more gaming as well as some 3D modeling using Autodesk Fusion 360, the 8gb's of ram and the quad core CPU have been good enough in the past. Being me I grabbed a cheap 10 dollar graphics card off eBay to test the PCI-E slot before I dropped money on a more expensive card for some gaming and 3D modeling, I discovered that the slot is either dead or BIOS locked to prevent upgrading. I was wondering if it was possible that the slot is just locked and through some tweaking it could be unlocked. The card is a Radeon HD 5450 so barely any power draw, so I know the slot isn't power restraint. Not to mention there are no marking's on the board or any information on the HP website to lead to that. Anyone have some ideas? Hacked BIOS or something?

i have a hp 2570p with core i7 with four cores in a small factor of just 12.5 inches. i have SSD of 120 gb and i like to upgrade but i am not sure if i can put 3 drives. 2 drives that are 2.5 inches. First will be 2.5 inch drive where my SSD is now. second will be added by removing cd/dvd drive and i am not sure if i can put SSD above the wireless card. it looks like this if i can put SSD in there it will be 120GB or maximum 240GB and i like to know. 1. Is it possible and if not what cant be done. 2. How much will this cost me if i sell my SSD of 120GB. 3. how much of an impact does it have on battery (now i am getting about 3 hours of battery life of moderate usage(have battery that is 50kWh but it's degrated so it is acc 40kWh)) P.S. i want each drive to have 1 terabyte of collected storage of 2 terabyte and SSD of 120GB or 240GB

After a fresh reinstall of Windows on my HP laptop in July, I've been bothered by multiple windows with no content, name or image spamming at login then dissappearing. A couple of days ago I managed to load task manager before the windows opened, to find what has been causing the issue: Intel Security Assist. Is this anything I should be worried about, is it a known issue, and should I remove it? It's a hp pavilion x360 11-152sa 4gb ddr3 ram 500gb hdd Intel celeron n3050 (I've also enabled virtualization if that would have an impact)

Hi guys! So I'm at this dilemma between two laptops. Most likely I want a laptop that can last throughout college. I am planning to go into Computer Science major, probably more into Artificial Intelligence, and was wondering what laptop fit for that field. I am also looking for a laptop that is good for video and photo editing (Photoshop, Premiere Pro, After Effects, Maya) and I'm probably might play some games on it too, such as Rainbow Six Siege (I don't really care too much about playing it on a high or ultra settings). They are both the same price. I believe the HP Pavilion has an M.2 Slot but I'm unsure about the Lenovo Ideapad. I was thinking if I got the HP, I could replace the HDD with an SSD or add an SSD in the M.2 slot, but if I was to do that for Lenovo, then I feel like the Optane Memory would be useless. From the looks of it, HP has 16GB ram but with a lower graphics card(MX150) than Lenovo (GTX1050) but only has 12GB ram. I'm not sure if I need to invest a better graphics card for a higher ram for Computer Science (A.I.). I'm also open to considering any other laptops you guys might recommend. Thank you in advance! Hi guys! I've got an old HP workstation Z420 Motherboard (version 618263-002). In documentation I've read it supports only DDR3 ECC unbuffered memory (the ones ending with E like PC3-10600E) the DDR3 ECC Registered memory is not in official support list (the ones ending with R, like PC3-10600R). On some websites people keep writing it supports both of them. Does anyone actually have a working Z420 with registered ECC memory up and running?

memory How should I upgrade my laptop memory?
edwin4362 posted a topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
I am using a laptop (HP 17-x121dx) for web browsing and very light gaming (Warframe, Minecraft shh, etc.). I am tired of waiting for everything to load and not being able to multitask effectively. In task manager, my CPU is basically always idle, and my memory and drive are usually always pinned. I am already upgrading to an SSD but I am not sure how to go about upgrading my memory. Currently the laptop has a single 4GB stick of DDR4 SDRAM, and it's 2132 MHz according to CPU-Z. If I remember correctly it supports up to 16 GB. My question is: Should I upgrade to 8 GB or 16 GB of RAM? And, if I upgrade to 8 GB, would I get away with buying another similar 4GB, or would I have to find another stick of the exact same Samsung module, or should I get rid of the stick I have and buy two new identical ones? And, if I do buy two new ones, is there any benefit to higher clock speeds and/or lower latency? I'm sure given my use case it has no effect, but I could be wrong. Here are screenshots of CPU-Z on imgur. Sorry if this post is terrible, it's my first one. Thanks in advance! -
Hi, I am a proud owner of an Omen 17-an0xx laptop. I use it more for work than gaming, but my work is also quite hardware-demanding. Anyhow, I am fancying the Omen x transceptor backpack lately for my laptop: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/displays-accessories/gaming/omenx-transceptor-backpack.html I am a huge fan of the Omen looks, additionally to their capabilities. Is it a good choice? Is there any chance you can do a review in your channel? Thanks

System: HP xw8600 Dual Xeon X5430 2.66GHz 28GBs DDR2 666Mhz FB-Dimm ECC ram GTX 710 (Basically a headless server) ROG 10G network card LSI SAS 9201-16e HBA 1x 250GB SSD (boot drive) 4X WD RE 4tb 4x 1tb Assorted drives 3x HGST 4tb Drives (trying to add) The system does see the LSI HBA I added but even in the BIOS config tool I don't see any drives. The HBA does show up under the SAS controller (which has a 2TB limit) I want it under SATA controller which I think is emulated on this board. I purchased a SFF-8088 to 4x Sata cable and it goes directly from the card to the drives. I read some things about this and something about Forward and reverse cables but nothing concrete. What is wrong??

Before I start off I am highly certifed in computer repair, networking and programming. I wouldn't be on here asking for help if I really wasn't in a pickle.I have a hp 17 e024nr recently my thermals were 100 deg c on the package so I took apart the laptop dusted it with compressed air, cleaned the fan, and replied thermal compound. In the process you have to take off the keyboard. In doing this I followed Ifix's guide and messed up when taking the keyboard out. I started from the bottom right instead of the bottom left. This caused me to make a deep scratch in the ribbon cable from the laptops keyboard. I didn't notice this until later on when I put everything back together that some keys on the left side of the keyboard stopped working. Everything else was fine. Ordered my replacement here is the amazon link. Installing the new keyboard was a breeze. Booted and it said that it didn't detect any operating system on my laptop. Basically it wouldn't boot past checking my system for a boot-able drive. (btw the drive didn't show up in the bios) I then took the drive and plugged it into my desktop saw it detected in bios. Booted into my regular desktop opened the drive all the files were intact. I since 100% formatted the drive. Plugged it back into my laptop inserted my windows iso to reinstall windows on it. It wouldn't detect my flash drive. I followed all of hp's steps. I set bios to all defaults. Did the hp disk checker all the stupid software that never works. No errors showed up. I'm starting to think my new keyboard bricked my system and before I'm 100% certain I wanted some other opinions.

The only different is the thunderbolt 3 and the 2TB HDD on the Omen. Need help deciding which of the laptop is more value for money.

So recently i've come across and issue with my Laptop, i was watching youtube, not at full volume and then all of a sudden all sound stopped playing though my speakers. At first i thought maybe they blew or something like that so i tried using headphones which i've done before and yet it still didn't play anything, what's even more stranger is that the audio device is still being detected and my volume mixer is still showing that audio is definately playing however i've no audio playing at all, audio however does play via a bluetooth speaker or any form of USB headset/earphones of any kind. I've reinstalled the drivers aswell to no avail. Does anyone have any suggestions on what to do?

This is both a rant and a cry for help as I recently bought an HP EliteBook 755 G5 with the Ryzen 7 PRO 2700U and have been dealing with endless issues that couldn't be fixed (yet) even after contacting AMD and HP. HP claims that they will be able to fix the issue by replacing some hardware components but I've been convinced that these are driver-related issues after a ridiculous amount of time wasted on driver installing and testing... I don't really know how one could do this, but it's clear that letting OEMs distribute the drivers for Ryzen Mobile was a terrible idea as my testing has shown that AMD's drivers are significantly better (even though unstable) compared to those from HP, which are several months old and have terrible performance. I also want to thank /u/brokemyacct for all his help over the past posts I've made and ultimately inspiring me to make this post which I will crosspost, post on different platforms and show AMD to hopefully grab their attention and get this issue sorted out one way or another. If you guys have issues as well (even if you're using a system from a different manufacturer) feel free to use this post and contact whoever you can so AMD can finally come back to their senses and give us the drivers directly instead of forcing the OEMs (who frankly have no idea) to "optimize" and distribute the drivers. As I've only had this laptop for about 5 weeks and counting, I was only able to test 3 driver versions and here were my results: 17.7 (from HP): VLC crashes occassionally Windows Movies/Photos crashes Adobe programes don't properly detect HW GTA's resolution can't be changed to 1600x900 on both a 4K monitor and the laptop's monitor lackluster performance compared to 18.10.2 reported clock speed is 201MHz GPU is reported as Radeon(TM) RX Vega 10 in both the Task Manager and AMD Radeon Settings 18.5.1 (from AMD): non-stop screen flickering couldn't test performance or check/change settings because the flickering was that bad GTA's resolution can't be changed to 1600x900 on both a 4K monitor and the laptop's monitor 18.10.2 (from AMD): occassional screen flickering random system freezing requiring a reboot and resulting in possible data loss GTA's resolution can't be changed to 1600x900 on both a 4K monitor and the laptop's monitor GPU is reported as RadeonT RX Vega 10 reported clock speed is 1300MHz exceptional performance in games and regular workloads GPU is recognized correctly by all tested programs If I think of anything more, I'll be sure to add it. Currently I'm using the 17.7 drivers because those seem to be most stable, but I really hate not being able to use VLC and lackluster performance I'm getting from a system with so much potential. I really would've loved to stick to the 18.10.2 drivers which except for the crashing are amazing... I hope this post, or someone else's post gets recognized by one of the companies and brings them to their senses, hopefully resulting in AMD distributing the drivers for Vega Mobile directly on their website instead of us getting outdated drivers from the OEMs. This post will definetly land on AMD's support forums, LTT forums and anywhere else I can think of. Feel free to link this anywhere, it's not about the credits but us consumers actually getting decently stable systems and not this crap. Hello. Just this morning I got my laptop back from HP repair. I simply had a disconnected back light, but I figured I'd have them fix it since I'm paying for their warranty. Besides that, after testing it out by playing a light game (Binding of Isaac) for about 30 minutes, the laptop forced a shutdown. This surprised me because it was close to being fully charged, the laptop wasn't terribly hot, and I didn't notice the fans kicking in at 100%. However, the bottom vent was likely blocked since I was resting it on some papers. I've never had a laptop or PC overheat on me since I'm normally careful about it. I'm currently unable to turn it back on (when pressing the power button, the orange led flashed 3 times, and a long press does nothing). Is there a time period that I'm locked out for? I wouldn't normally post on the forums so quickly, but I'm not sure what HP's policies are for returning a 'bad' repair if this is the case. Any advice or help is appreciated. Thanks guys. Edit: There were also noticeable lag spikes that would freeze the game lasting 2-5 seconds. This never happened on the game before today

Hi, I have a prebuild HP system. It has a micro atx case. I'm not sure what the psu voltage is. it has 8 GB RAM, an i7 6700, and integrated graphics. case clearance is also an issue. I need a very small graphics card that has a small form factor PCI brackets. I do not plan to overclock or play highly demanding games. I just want to play minecraft and fortnite at around 70 - 100 FPS Please help me find a suitable graphics card.
