I want to make two websites: the first should have a forum and have multiple users that can work on it the second should preferably (but not necessarily) have some sort of database that you can integrate into the website both should be responsive where should i host these sites? thanks

Hello all, I am about to begin studying my second IT qualification. As part of my course, I have to work in a team to implement a help desk system across 3 campuses, as we have to collaborate for a real world project and this is our leader's choice. I am writing this post to see if anyone could supply some good suggestions for some help desk software that I can look into. These are the restrictions for our choices: Locally hosted Open-source Free Compatibility with multiple operating systems As far as our hardware is concerned, we have some decent workstation PCs, and we were just going to use one of them to run a server for the system, get everything set up and working on a reference system, and work on a method of distribution from there. We are looking at using Windows Server 2016, but if anyone has any Linux server options that work just as well in running a help desk system, please let me know. The majority of work stations across the campuses are running Windows 10, with some Mac machines available, but it is hard to say whether they are used for anything other than familiarization with Mac OS. We are currently looking at 2 options, Bugzilla and Spiceworks. If anyone has any opinions on those, then please let me know as well. Thank you in advance for any replies.

Hello, I am new to the Linus Tech Tips forums but I have a question and would think this would be the best community to reach out to about this topic. I have recently bought a server, it is a HP ProLiant SE326M1 with two Xeon QC L5630's, I primarily use it for hosting and recently my mother was complaining about it's noise. I was wondering if some way I could inexpensively convert this into a workstation case form-factor instead of being in a 2U server case. Can anyone help me with this thank you..

Hi, As you can see in the title, Dropbox emailed me that on the 3rd of October they will no-longer host my html file. (They will keep it on my dropbox, but only as a simple file) The problem is, I use it on Google Play as a privacy policy for my games and if I won't have one, I will lose a load of benefits (like family frendly and posibly the chance of it making it on the front page...) I am also 14, and I don't want my parents to pay money for a site no-one will see most of the time... Any ideas on how I can do this? -
As the title says, I'm trying to set up port forwarding through my router so that I can host a server in Risk of Rain. I've done what I thought would work, which was create a new service in my router's web UI that was set to port forwarding and have it set to TCP/UDP. The internal IP address is my desktop, but what I don't really know what to do with the external and internal port ranges. I tried setting them both to 11100, because that was the default port that was listed for joining in the game, but it didn't work and I have no idea where to go from here. Some help and possibly a decent understanding of port forwarding would be appreciated. Thanks!

I'm trying to help my friend unblock Steam at boarding school and we've tried several VPNs so far to no avail. Is it possible to setup a home VPN server running off my network which he could connect to? I don't want to waste any more money buying VPN plans only to find they won't work.. Cheers

Hi there! I'm building a website and i'm looking for a place to host it because i don't have a computer or stable internet connection at home. I'm super new to all this but the thought i had was i build the website, buy a domain and then find a way to host it. So do you know any cheap place that hosts websites? It's absolutely not for heavy use and will just be used in my CV basically. Thanks in forehand for your input

Hi, I have tried many solutions to try and get my apache virtual hosts to work but i have had no luck. I have two web servers.. one running on 192.168.2.168 and the other on 192.168.2.133 panel.euananddan.com needs to go to 192.168.2.133 on port 80 cloud.euananddan.com needs to go to 192.168.2.168 on ports 80 and 443 i have tried editing the apache config of the 192.168.2.133 server but with no luck. This is what i tried: Listen 80 Listen 443 <VirtualHost 192.168.2.133:80> ServerName panel.euananddan.com DocumentRoot "/www/" </VirtualHost> <VirtualHost 192.168.2.168:443 192.168.2.168:80> ServerName cloud.euananddan.com DocumentRoot "/www" </VirtualHost> I get this error when restarting apache: * Restarting web server apache2 (98)Address already in use: AH00072: make_sock: could not bind to address [::]:80 (98)Address already in use: AH00072: make_sock: could not bind to address 0.0.0.0:443 no listening sockets available, shutting down AH00015: Unable to open logs Action 'start' failed. The Apache error log may have more information. Any help would be greatly appeciated!

So I'm trying to build a server for me to host some games to play with my friends, but I have a question about the CPU's I'm getting since the Xeon E5450 comes in two variants: SLBBM and SLANQ. Now I don't know what the differences are between these CPU's but most importantly I wanna know if I can use them together in ONE dual-socket mainboard. Any kind of help is appreciated. Thx

I tried to host my server and I got to this point and yet I can't get into my own server, my friends can't see it and when I search for other servers in other tabs such as official, I see no servers. Note: it seems that the server is up because the video tutorials says that is the point when number of cores appear in the Command Prompt thing is when the server is up, and my ram usage is also increased to 7gb

Hey guys, I´ve got an HP printer `1320`without a network port and i´m not able to get it printing from an other computer. I´ve tried everything windows is offering and I don´t get it working. I can´t even find the printer in the network. Is there a possibility to emulate a printer via a software running on my computer that gives my printer a job which it got from a network PC? All computers are running Win10 and are in the same `Homegroup.` Greetings Helge

I didn't have this problem before. Now when I want to shut down the computer it says that task host windows is stopping background processes and it goes back to the desktop. I have to force shutdown to get the computer to turn off- 2 replies

Hi Not sure if this is the correct section, didn't know where else to look. I have just started my own company (yay!), and in the process of getting a website on the go. I currently have a working forum with phpBB, and hopefully a store sometime in the future. Now since I haven't started trading, my host do SSL certificates, from £15/py. I was wondering whether it'd be worth getting one, holding off a bit, or not get one at all? Cheers ~Dan

This doesn't happen on other devices connected to my Network. It is currently bugging me because I can't seem to host (My modded Minecraft server, for friends duh.) properly. I don't know if this is the reason for it. But I seem to have 3 different public IPs shown. This happened when I upgraded to Windows 10. Here's on CMD, IP Chicken, Whats My IP and Google, The problem here is none of the Public IPs work for my friends. Even when I use No-IP's DUC. I forced changed the IP by force-disconnecting the router, the IPv4 address changed. But CMD shows the SAME Public IP while the other sites changed. I don't know what to do. Please help? My friends are depending on me to host. I can't seem to now. -
Hey guys! I'm looking for a VPS to host the occasional game server and website hosting. I would like at least: 4GB of RAM 3 CPU cores 30GB of storage 1TB of bandwidth 100Mbps connection Preferably hosted in LA as my current VPS is there and pings are fine. I'm in Canada. For around $200-250/year I'm currently with ChunkHost (4GB RAM, 2 CPU cores, 40GB storage, 8TB bandwidth, and 100Mbps connection for $216/year) but they only provide 2 CPU cores on their plans and running a modded Minecraft server on only 2 CPU cores is a terrible experience. Thanks guys! I have looked all over and it seems like ChunkHost is the best deal.

Windows script host error message every 30-45 minutes

Sup gentlemen of LTT. So i have a problem with windows script host. Every 30-45 minutes. The error message states "Script file not found" and it's so annoying because when i play games it just tabs out to show me the message. I have checked the internet but the only solution i see is for the one that get the error upon boot. Translation: Scriptfile ****' Was not found

I recently purchased a hosting subscription and a domain from 1&1 Hosting. From the 1&1 control panel I set up an FTP account. I downloaded FileZilla and logged in, created a 'content' folder and inserted my 'index.html' file. I then went to the domain manager on the 1&1 control panel and directed the domain to the 'index.html' file. However when I use the URL the 1&1 not published page shows up. Any help appreciated, thanks.

Does anyone know a good cheap teamspeak server host in australia? (doesnt have to be teamspeak really) we are currently using 'gameservers' http://www.gameservers.com/ and we find that the server is too unreliable as it constantly drops out and lags even if we arent near the servers User cap. any recommendations from experience would be awesome ty in advance

Hi I'm trying to host more than one virtual server on my Teamspeak server and won't work unless I buy a Annual License and it cost a lot of money. I'm hoping to get at least three other people needing a Teamspeak server and not wanting to host it on their own internet or server if y'all have one. I am from Texas as you can tell and I live in the Austin, TX area and I have the server in my house. I'm getting 1Gbps this summer from AT&T not happy getting it from them but once Google Fiber is offered I am switching over ASAP. The pricing goes I am running my own Teamspeak Server for my own Clan/Guild and my friend wants one too and I was considering doing just that but Teamspeaks Non-Profit Liscense and until then I would have to purchase an Annual License Fee and will host 3 other people for and if you stay for a whole year I will only charge $3 a month for a year and will have 128 slots which is the max. The server will get upgrades if i receive donations and will benefit the donate more and have the choice of what you would like to be upgraded. The specs are 20GB @ 1866MHz ECC, Xeon E3-1230V3, and a Kingston KC300 120GB SATA III Enterprise SSD. Keep in mind none of these things are needed for running a Teamspeak 3 server and only is reliant on internet speed and running a 20Mbps for 2 servers is plenty as of the logs that I have been pulling only uses 2Mbps MAX and bandwidth was 20MB. I have currently 300Mbps. I'm switching to AT&T soon but I have Cognet and here is my speedtest now. Upgrading this summer to have 1Gbps Up and Down. I will be monitoring the Teamspeak servers through server query and making sure that no one gets compromised and will IP ban and block them through my entire network. I will send you the IP to see if it was someone you know and will let them pass through but other than that I suffer very minor Power Outages usually due to bad weather and will estimate a power loss for 2 min. max and usually happens twice a year or less. Hi Guys, My mom would like to start blogging and she is worried about encountering design/layout restrictions when going with a hosting service and it would be really nice to hear from a 3rd party that there isn't such a thing and if there is which services are the most recommended and easy to use. She is going to do a WordPress course so squarespace as much as I love the idea won't be happening. So in a recap: Are the design restrictions with hosting services and which one would you recommend.

So, we have a domain controller that is our network DNS. We want to log all external DNS requests made to the DNS (since it's the primary one for everyone) along with the Hostname of each person doing the requests. So say I am on Workstation1. And I go to www.bigbobssalebarn.com. Workstation1 will request from the DNS the WAN IP for that website. Logging would say "Workstation1 requested (website) at (date)." but in whatever format it wants. I've tried going into the DNS part of the DC and turning debug logging on, but it only gives an IP address and not a hostname, and it only gives successful resolutions, rather than all of them. Since it's a Domain DNS, it doesn't keep a record of actual internet websites and only keeps up with what's in our domain, so any request for external websites will fail and be passed on to external DNS (such as Google's or wtv). However, since it's the Primary DNS, it's going to get the request first regardless (from what I understand), so it should be able to log who asks for what. Basically, I need a way to log external DNS requests (i.e. not domain.com but anything for the internet) whether they resolve or not, with a way to record the hostname rather than IP.
