  1. Well, I'm new in this hardware customization, and one of my first performance upgrades came in the form of an extra cooling fan, and a airduct connecting my AC to my CPU Case, to push cold air inside. (Not a rich guy, but very passionate xD) The air current is not so strong nor cold enough to create condensation, is a gentle cold breeze. When the CPU is idle it seems to reduce temp very dramatially (measured with speccy) But when doing tasks still show high temps (like 70-80 C°) So I was wondering if my efforts to push cold air inside the case are misguided, as in should I concentrate in pushing the hot air out instead? (Dissipate) Right now I have the CPU fan blowing to the back, a fan in the back of the case blowing to back also, and a fan connected to the airduct pushing cool air inside (from the top) Here's a pic of my setup and my CPU cooler I'm far from a high end setup, be nice. I appreciate any comments
  2. Hello everyone and welcome to Project Evo worklog! First of all a quick presentation, my name is Alberto and I'm from Portugal! Was you can see on the topic title this project is in Case Mod World Series contest, Cooler Master propose me to mod a Master Case 5 for the contest and offcourse I accpeted it. The project is already in a good phase since I started it in Febuary. Well I dont intend to win anything to be honest I do this as a hobby and I dont have a big bugget to add WC system and all that fancy stuff, but I got to start with something so hope you guys like this project So speaking about the idea, basicly I'm on the Tower Mod category and like previous years I notice most tower projects never leave the "Box" concept, and for a "scracther builder" being stuck on the "box" is a bit strange so I started to think outside the "box" ( ), to be honest I really needed to think that way because was I said I cant afford all the fancy WC's system most "box" projects have, so finding a new design as really challenging since the Master Case 5 was been already so modded. So basicly the idea was finding a new way to look at the Master Case 5. So Idea found () and Project Evo born, lets see how things are going! #1 Video Images Concept evolution: Work evolution: Actual State Best Regards Tankian The Man
  3. Hi I'm building a new PC case for my A-level (Resistant materials) technology project, the case will unfortunately house a small BTX board (But will have dual compatibility with mATX). Anyways this case will be themed by the 60s era I have a few ideas and I was just wondering if you guys had any ideas? and feedback on my ideas? I've put in a picture of a design idea ill put up some sketches and some 3D files if there is any interest. Many thanks folks!
  4. Ive got an empty fan space at the back of my pc and my place is verry dusty so i want to reduce the dust and dirt in my pc. Anny idea of a fabric that stops dust but doesnt stop airflow that much, maybe jean or the fabric used in pillow cases, or linnen ?
  5. Hi everyone tankian here and I'm happy to share my lastest complete project! FINAL RESULT Photos Album https://imgur.com/a/etXqc Youtube Video build playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLLwK7MdAvrDBndGKOATOYRmdZ7l3Dx_of You can see the buildLog at: So hope you guys like the final result, I'm really happy to share this with you! Best Regards Tankian!
  6. , Hi guys ! I rencetly decided to put a diy eGPU since most of the external solutions are really expensive and that I already have some spare parts left that could be combined to create a External Graphic Solution. First, I have an Dell XPS13 20174 full specs, thunderbolt 3 of course (so PCIE pass through), a R9 270X, a Antec Truepower Trio 650W and a PCIE Riser exntesion, x16 to x1. Since I think most of you know, the PCIE riser extension use to convert an USB cable for the x16 PCB to a x1, and i thought, since Thunderbolt can use fast PCIE like specs, I can just plug a USB C cable and make a external GPU ! For now it seems simple, or i'm missing something. So I started: Plug all cables to R9, on the x16 extension; plug the Molex for the PCB extension to Molex port (or with a converter to SATA), plug both 8pins connectors for card, jump the 24pin one to start psu and transfer energy for the R9, plug electric cable to PSU and switch it on. But now, my card wouldn't spin, did not produce any hot, my card is suppose to make his fans spinning so I know it works but nothing. And strangely I tried my PSU by also plugging a SSD to a SATA connector, its turning, but only when the 8pins connector are plugged into the card otherwise it stops. I've made a classic jump found on internet where I link the green and black (two in the middle I tried both) on the upper line of pins when looking at the pins. But I still don't know, I'll try on another PSU when I have one but my solution is acting weirdly for some reasons... Any idea ?
  7. Hey guys & gals. First topic I'm making here! Just finished making myself a Backlit Keyboard Clock. I like it but I think I should have used diffused LEDs for the backlighting as the current ones seem a bit blinding and can make it difficult to read the time. Maybe if I try again I'll do it as I do have some diffused green LEDs. Anyway, thought I'd share it with you all. (Currently being held with with my helping hands as a stand, actually quite like it.) EDIT: Thanks for moving to the correct board. Wasn't 100% sure when I posted.
  8. Hello , i am new to this forum and watched ltt for quite a while now. I was wandering if this pc case will keep components somewhat cool. https://9gag.com/gag/apQoXB5
  9. This is Operation: Open Air. This is a case/dual rig that because the ridiculous heat in Michigan recently and especially in the room of this machine is getting so hot that I needed to take these machines out of their natural habitat and migrate them into an open air case... Now I personally love open air mining rigs because the simplicity and I love the way computers internals look and a near sealed case removes the techy look to the components. So with both of those in mind (and also one rig Is meant for mining) I created this project and here's how it went. I had some random angle iron in the garage, marked it up, waited a week for my brother to finally cut them and then realized none of it was actually 90' and this would be the most frustrating build I've ever done. So drilling into this was a pain as the metal is so thicc and it doesn't like to be penetrated which eventually led me during the build process to be so angry I threw the entire thing across the garage and a beam went half way into a cardboard box... How inspiring. Eventually frustrated with the problem of wood splitting and the metal being so thicc and hard to work with I said screw it and moved to wooden pillars vs metal as it was relatively easier to work with. Now that it's (relatively) completed, I do like the way it turned out and that means I will be redoing the entire top portion of the case because it has many issues, there is a lot of sag and it's uneven the edges look terrible but other than that it's a great case. Purpose of machines - Main Machine - Gaming - Programming - General Youtube / internet browsing - Alternative Machine - Mining - Server (If needed for the programming on the main machine) Current Specs - Main Machine Motherboard Asus Z87-C RAM [DDR3] PATRIOT Viper Extreme (x2) 8GB & (2x) 8GB PNY (Not sure the exact model for these, got them from my dads old rig) GPU XFX R9 270X CPU i7 4770k 3.5GHz (3.9GHz w/ Overclock) PSU [currently unknown] - Alternative Machine Motherboard Unknown RAM [DDR3] GSkill 4GB GPU XFX HD 6750 CPU AMD Phenom(tm) II X6 1035T 2.6GHz PSU Unknown random Dell PSU from a batch of old machines for a business - Case - Fans - x2 Delta Server Fans (when room temp is above 70-80') - Soon to be a row of misc random fans, unless I purchase / get a sponsor for fans If you have any ideas for this that you think would be cool additions let me know! Future Plans - Rebuild top of the case - Completely uneven/looks bad - Create wall of Orange LED Fans - Cosmetics - Temperature Dispersion - Complete Repaint - It looks terrible, Scratched to hell during build process - USB Risers - They look better than ribbon cable risers. - They are also safer than ribbon cable risers [This thread will be showing my progress, so if you'd like to follow it I would be honored!] Media Updates
  10. So I have an old Dell laptop that I just want to utterly pimp out with the best possible junk scraped together. I've maxed out the Ram, installed an ssd, and replaced the CPU with the finest Core duo I could find, but now I want the holy grail, discrete graphics. Pictured below is what I have, a GTX 730(pulled from a dead school pc), and super thin heat sink and fan(dead laptop) and a 12.7mm dvd drive as the bed. Im going to order a mini-pcie to 8x adapter and I have access to a 3d printer for parts. What else should I be worried about, the gpu only takes 25w, which is the lowest Directx11 card I could think of. Love to hear your feedback and ttyl
  11. What can you use as thermal paste? Can you make your OWN Thermal Paste? I don't know! And neither do Riley and Alex. But they gave it their best shot. ...That's not true. 12. I'm trying to build my own NAS for video editing. I won't be working with 4k footage - 2k at the most. The NAS will primarily be for archive but I want to have the option to edit off of it, if needed. I'm fairly certain that this will do the job but my biggest concern is the "networking" part. I've never built a NAS so I'm not sure what is needed to connect it to my PC. Let me know if you have any insights. 13. Hi! I already posted this to mechanical keyboard fan club, but still no aswer. Sorry for teh double post.As the title says: Is there any way to make a mechanikal keboard spill restistant? My Fnatic Gear rush g1 keyboard leaked recently, because the perspiration from my hand. Im trying to find a method to how can I make it spillproof, but I cant find any safe and sure solution, still. Someone told me about Plasti Dip, but I'm not sure about the outcome... The plan is about the next one: Cover the keyswitches moving parts, then spray some clear plasti dip to the keyboard (because of blacklighting), and repeat it 4-5 times. Is this going to works? Please help, I cannot find any existing examples of this, or any other methods. If anyone have a sure solution, please tell me. (The English isn't my native language, so please forgive me for the grammar mistakes.) Thank you! I also placed this question on reddit, but I get only such answers, like "replace the keyboard" or "replace the keyswishes by soldering/desoldering". None of these are options. So no corsair k68 buying, no keyswitch replacing, just a sealing method around the swiches. Is it possible? thanks!
  14. Hey everyone! I'm new to this forum, and just wanted to know, if anybody on here is experimenting with building their own water block for their graphics cards?? I just did this concept design for a ZOTAC 8800 GTS 512MB, that I will do some test runs on soon. Thinking about using Firestrike, Furmark and Heaven for comparison of the stock cooler The design was made in SolidWorks 2018.
  15. I just built a wooden pc case, would appreciate your input on it! Specs, in CASE you were wondering (sorry for the bad pun), i5 6500, gtx 1060 3gb, 8gb ram, 450w bronze psu, 500gb drive (system drive), 1tb drive, and msi b250m pro-vd.(If your wanting to build your own wooden pc case make sure you ground your motherboard to the psu shroud from one of the Moro screws)
  16. Hi everyone! I wanted to share with you a project that i've donne to CMWS 2016 Contest hosted by Cooler Master in the beginning of this year, hope you like it! At this moment I'm working on a new build, trying to make a new case for my Media Center and this is the concept. "Unnatural Project" For now you can follow some updates in my facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/tankiantheman/ Will probably make a topic here for it so stay tunned! Best Regards! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------Dark Side Machine worklog--------------------------------- Day 1 Hello everyone. My name is Alberto and I'm from Portugal, its my second year at Case Mod World Series and I'm really motivated about it, I have learned so much last contest and I'm confident this year, good luck! First a little about my self and my history, I have been modding since the past 4 years in three different projects, and all three projects I evolve so much in all strands, facing a lot off problems some more hard than others but in the end I have solve all off them and that gave me a lot off knowledge. I always try to do the best with the tools I have. You can check my past projects in this links: 1- Project ATX Cube Homemade (winner off ThisIsMyPC contest by Sapphire) Worklog (in Portuguese): https://forum.zwame....tx-cube.859611/ 2- Project ATX Cube Style Worklog (in portuguese): https://forum.zwame....round-2.869996/ 3- Project tankian Worklog (in english): http://community.coo...ankian-project/ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Day 1 This worklog will be divided in days/parts, as the project progresses I will post when I got solid news to show you! Now lets talk about this new projec that have "born" because of "a need". My past project was really good for me, many problems solve and in the end I got more than I first expected, speaking only about the design, because in the pratical way I failled in some aspects, and I got that confirmation when I received a new motheboard from RMA that was bigger than my last problem showing a compatibility issue! The motherboard feeted but I didnt look cool as the old one, so I became really disapointed and decided to put the two possibilitys in mind, buy one or build one, of course building one was the first choice! At this point the Project will have a unnamed name, and the build will be based in this four concepts: - Simple - Pratical - Color - Funcional I have been doing the project in 3D SketchUp and i can tell you is really hard to make a compact case with ATX motheboards and at the same time it must be easy to set up components and to carry on for any place I want, and at the same time get low temperatures and air flow. So I started to study the best positions to make a solid and funcional structure and i ended up with this: Hope you guys like it and see you in the next day! Best Regards Alberto Soares aka tankian ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Day 2 Hello everyone is day 2 and I set all the base struture in place! I used iron square pipe 14x14mm and rivets to hold. The struture is really strong and at the end I really liked the final result. Hope you like it. See you next day! Best Regards, Alberto Soares aka tankian ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Day 3 Hi! I have some news, at this momment SilverStone is supporting this project! I'm really happy to count with them once again, its a pleasure, they are a great brand to look out when you are looking for parts! Next week I will share the materials that I will receive! http://silverstonetek.com/ And I got some other news to you about the project: I have finish the 2º part of the structure, this 2º part is made of aluminium andis basically the feet of the structure and the support rails for the side windows. I have donne all this at my girlfriend house and at my house, thats why you see diferent working tables We end in this step: New Stuff: Hope you guys like it, its getting really was I wanted Best Regards, Alberto Soares aka tankian ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Day 4 Hello everyone! I got some news about the project, I have receive some stuff from SilverStone that I thanks so much for their support to this project! Once again thanks so much for the support SilverStone! Now the project Update! At my home: Hope you guys like the update! Best Regards, Alberto Soares aka tankian ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Day 5 Hello everyone! I'm happy to announce that Cooler Master is supporting this project, it's the second time they sponsor one of my projects. This year I received a powerfull box! Lets check it out! I wanna thanks to Cooler Master Portugal, in particularly to Sofia Mota for being an awesome person! Now about the Case! So I have painted all the structure and inside covers and placed the USB 3.0 and the Power Button! Riser: First layer of black textured tint Hope you guys like it, and see you next update!! Best Regards, Alberto Soares aka tankian ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Day 6 Hi, thanks so much for the words mate hope to see some new stuff about your project! I got some really good news about the project, the light in the end of the tunel is getting realy closer! After thinking alot about the colors to paint the case I decided to use the following colors: -Black -White -Blue With the colors choosed I started to isolate what I wanted in white color, the blue color will be used in vinyl, I didnt decide what kinda graphics will use. I've donne the covers holes for the fans to. Hope you guys like it, next step will be getting the acrilics and all stuff mount to see how it looks Best Regards, Alberto Soares aka tankian ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Day 7 Hello everyone! I'm on the final details of the case, I decided to mount everything to make some tests! List to do: - Acrilics - Small details in paint - Vinyl stripes in blue - Cable combs in place For now what I can remenber is this Hope you like it, next update probably will be the "big final" Best Regards, Alberto Soares aka tankian ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------DAY 8 Hello everyone! I'm back after one month without giving news, I had some problems and that prevented me from continuing the project ... but I'm back now and full force to end this! So I decide to use Star Wars was the theme for the project, in the beginning it was my first choice, but I end up not calling it, but now I'm feelling more confident that is the right thing to use. I'm a new Star Wars fan thing and the better way I can prove how much I like it is giving this theme for this project. Let the Dark Side be with you! Well already have the cut acrylics, and tests to see if they need to do more holes or not, because the upper ventilation (air exit) Next step will be ilumination, vinils and paint details I hope you enjoy the result will not be long to complete the project and have some regret not having done already for some time, but not everything goes as we want the important thing is to finish! Best Regards. Alberto Soares ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Day 9 Hi, for today I'm only showing a little of the work that I've donne yesterday, more photos will come soon Hope you guys like it! (Missing some adjustments) Best Regards, Alberto Soares ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Day 10 Project Finished Hello everyone the project is finish and I'm really happy with the result, is true that the project could be finish sometime ago but sometimes stuff dont go was planned, in the end everything went donne and finish like I wanted. General Conclusion The project received a new name given to the subject I decided to opt already in the final part of the project now being named "Dark Side Machine". At the beginning I had the following ideas: simplicity, mobility, color and functionality. Simplicity - project through materials and tools available to all people. Mobility - project with identical dimensions and weight of an ATX tower, almost every weekend walk with her in the car and for now I didn't face any problem, 5 *. Color - red, white and black are the predominant colors in the project since i have followed the theme "Dark Side" of Star Wars. Functionality - allows excellent temperatures, cable management and easy access to inside components. Materials used for the project were essentially: - Square Aluminum Tube - Corner Aluminum pieces - Square Iron Tube - Plates Acrylic White - Plates Acrylic Transparent - Rivets and "L" corners - White and Black Paint - Vinyl Black In the end I used easy materials to find and use, was also one of the main points of the project, so you can bring other people motivated to create their own projects ate home, of course it is necessary to spend some money, but the satisfaction of doing something ours and overcome all of the dificultys you have is fantastic! I present to you the "Dark Side Machine" Day mode: Night Mode: (with special guests) I want to thank Cooler Master Portugal and SilverStone Technology for their support, without them the project would never have gotten to this point. I want to thank especially the Sofia Mota (Cooler Master) and Karin Lee (SilverStone) for being great people, my girlfriend Janete Lopes for the patience and help, to Hugo Matias for help in photo shootting, Steve Santos for patience in parts stores and all others who have followed and supported the project a big thank you! Best Regards, Alberto Soares aka tankian
  17. In May I have decided that I want to build a mechanical keyboard, I have some money saved up and my old ones kinda rubbish so I think I'm due an upgrade. I have the money and some knowledge of how to build one I have looked everywhere and can't find a keyboard PCb, there are loads out there but the only issue I have is that they only ship in the USA and I live in Britain I've looked everywhere and can't seem to find a site which sells the parts (By parts I mean keyboard PCb, I have all the key caps, switches, resistors and diodes) I would appreciate it if anyone knows a site where to get the keyboard PCb and any other parts I haven't listed above, also I have the case sorted. Thanks In advance
  18. Is it possible to even make a heatsink out of pennies? How efficient would this be? Would watercooling be an option when using these pennies? These are not rhetorical questions, he legit wants to know if you want make a heatsink out of pennies. He's poor and doesn't have many options. btw its @HumanKiller that's really wanting to know he just can't exactly get on at the moment because he's working on his not so cool cpu right now.
  19. Amazon: http://geni.us/39tX NCIX: http://bit.ly/1PFqMZ3 Is making your own water block feasible? Linus decided to test that out using his Scrapyard Wars 2 water block made on his neighbor's CNC machine.
  20. Hello, For a project I am working on I need to somehow convert a single Composite Video (from RCA cable) to four Composite Video outputs, each a quadrant of the output. It is a bit hard to explain at times, so I attached a sketch. My idea is this: With a raspberry pi or something similar I can build a "calculator" that runs numbers and spits out a quarter of the input across four outputs, so that I can essentially hook up four monitors to that one input. If there are devices that would do this for me, they are too expensive. Trust me I've looked. VGA and HDMI ones cost a fortune and are way to bulky for my project, and ones for RCA are even less in demand. Anyway, is this feasible at a low cost? Is it feasible at all? -Jbax
  21. Hello everybody! I am soon hoping to find a way to start building custom pc's for people who don't have the budget to buy pre-build, and don't have the confidence to build one on their own. I was wondering if there is anyone who could give me helpful tips and tricks in doing such a thing, and how to get started. I am only 15, and some may say that i am taking up a big task, but i have already build many computers including the one i currently run, and some that i have build for friends. I have done custom water cooling, and many other exotic things that custom pc's are known for, so i have quite the experience on the pc building end. What I don't have experience in is the business end, and actually managing such an operation. Any advice or criticism is welcome. Thanks, Robot7600
  22. Hi everyone, I'm new in this forum and not eng, so sorry in advance for my language. I want to share my project. Actually this is the last desk I made, with low budget (2k5): here is the first render of the project. Now Im planing to make a new project, and I need your point of views, what u think of the color? The theme is based on Asiimov Skin from CS:GO. Here is a pic of the black & red theme, U can see the conception of 2x 360 Res on one side. The geometry is made for drivin me crazy with the wood. Im actualy working to make this. Wich me luck thats my first day...
  23. Has anyone on the forums built a home made headphone stand? I need a headphone stand for both of my headphones and I was looking into making one. Can anyone show me their designs?
  24. Hi, Does anyone know of any website or page that provides and intro and guide to custom IEM cables. I am intending to build my own IEM cables for my shure 535, but i cant seem to find any webpage or tutorials that provides some info on the the type of cables, diameter and stuff, as well as a how to guide on how to build my own Have any of you build your own cables before? mind sharing with me some tips and webpage for a beginner? as well as some help. I know some of basic parts that i need, but the problem is deciding on the type of wire, as i have no knowledge or clue except that there are Silver plated cables, pure silver cables and copper cables. Thanks If i manage to build my own cable, i would be more than happy to post a tutorial up here too.
  25. This is my build log of a homemade server using acrylic glass and random parts laying around the house. I am building this server because space became an issue. All of my hard drives was stuffed. Currently this is not running, but the plan is to install FreeNAS on one of the laptop hard drives (going to replace these with SSD's) and use this as a file server on my LAN. This is so that I can watch movies on my HTPC, and also so that my parents don't have to bug me every time they want to watch Desperate Housewife (or whatever). The only parts missing is a RAID-controller, the hard drives and two SSD's (this build log will be updated when I can afford it). I need to find a RAID-controller that can support up to 10 hard drives, because this little bad boy is going to have at least 20 TB of space (might go for 30 TB if I can find ten 3 TB-drives cheap). Parts so far: Kingston 4GB 1333MHz DDR3 CL9 Intel Celeron G460 1.8GHZ Socket 1155 Asus P8H61-I LX R2.0 ICY BOX IB-555SSK (2x) SilverStone ST40F-ES 400W Corsair AF 140 Quiet Edition This is the front of the case. Here you can see where the drives are going to be placed. I have also used an old drive bay cover taken from a Corsair C70. I spray painted it black and added the power button along with the reset buttons for the alarm to the hard drive bays. Then I got a DVD-drive and painted it black as well. After that i riveted every thing together. A sideview of the server. The case itself was made with scrap-parts of acrylic from another project, so it is not that well cut. The cathode was added so that I could see into the closet (where this server is placed), because the lightbulb in the closet broke several months ago, and I was just too lazy to replace it... This is the back of the server. This was taken from my parents old case. Some of it was from the back of the case, and some of it came from the side panel. I had to cut it out, drill all the holes and paint it black. Not a perfect solution, but it works. Also had to cut a hole for the fan. A overview picture towards the back. Here you can see the hardware and some of the solutions I had to come up with. I put two disk from some laptops laying around, stacked them on top of each other and bolted it to the power supply. The plan is to replace those drives with SSD's and run FreeNAS on one of them, and use the other as a cache drive for the RAID-drives. I also had to cut some of the cables from the power supply and replace them with molex-connectors so that the drives could get enough power. PS: Cable routing was a NIGHTMARE in this little case... A overview picture towards the front of the case. This is where you can see the back of the drive cages and it's connectors. This is a brilliant product, so customizable. I bolted the two cages to each other and used this as the main backbone to the case. Thank you for taking your time to check out my server.
