So I had my first power up yesterday in the new HTPC. Here is the build: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/sHVDyc I did not install windows yet as I am waiting for my boot drive to arrive from Amazon. However, I did poke around in the BIOS and it shows my CPU hovering right around 50 degrees C. I feel like this is too hot for it to just be in BIOS. I'm assuming it will get much hotter under load. Luckily it is only an HTPC and I will not be gaming much, at nothing really demanding. I had an idea that I will probably end up going with an aftermarket cooler in the future as I thought the stock cooler may be too loud. I am just interested in whether I can risk putting the upgrade off a little bit or is 50C too warm already? Thank you in advance!

Hi, i bought this laptop on december 2014 from friend and it was dusty like hell and termal paste was like rock, then i replaced it and cleaned fan and everything. Here comes trouble, laptop was still overheating. I bought cooling pad and it wont helped (it had 3 little fans). I took down cover off and made myself cooling pad which helped cooling laptop but it was still overheating. So i builded cooling pad from lego and put there 1 arctic cooling fan 120mm and 1 80mm (or 90), then games like League of Legends dont even run more than on 55`C. Then i turned on Half-Life 2 episode 1 and boom overheated. This laptop is tottaly clean and have no dust in it. Its freakin cooling with these fans but every time i turn on hl2 then it shuts down without BSOD or anything. I want to know if a cryorig r1 ultmate on a asus rog impact vii. Pcpartpicker said they are compatible but i am worried about the heat sink hitting the power pcb. Any help would be appreciated. thanks

i have started to be very interested in building a mineral oil cooled custom desk computer and i am wondering if i can run the two xeon E5 2667 cpus without a heatsink? and a i7 4790k also without a heatsink?

Hi, I need a new cpu cooler. Currently i have the stock cooler from the i7-920 and my PC is getting very hot when i render Videos. so my plan is to get a very big heatsink and replace the fans with noctua industrialppc. But i don't know a cheap CPU Cooler that has a big heatsink. Do you have any idea's for a big heatsink?

Hi guys, I have a dual tower cooler and would like to run both fans PWM but the motherboard only has one PWM fan header. Should I wait for a fan splitter to be delivered or should I just solder the fans together ? I know I should not solder all the wires as the PWM will not work. I also know that the fan header can output to 1 amp and the fans are 0.25a so running two should be fine.

friend just bought a 980 strix. heatsink is very loose and wiggles. straight out of the box. very strange. anyone else have this problem?

Okay so a couple of months ago, my friend built a PC, and he had some left over thermal paste in a an injection type of tube and I recently had a problem with my CPU and its overheating, so I opened up my PC took off the heatsink and I tried to re-apply thermal paste and as I was applying it, some droplets of apparently watery thermal paste and then the actual thermal paste came out with that, and I had to clean and re apply and the same thing happened, so I just applied it and closed it and my temps are still high is that an issue?

Hi, this is my first pc build and I seem to be having a problem. I bought the Reeven Hans RC 1205 CPU cooler, and have been trying to install the backplate of the cpu cooler into the motherboard. My issue is I have installed the motherboard, graphics card, and already wired everything to the motherboard. I am trying to install the cooler backplate through the back of the case (Cooler Master Silencio 452) but the edge of the backplate won't fit through the open window on the case behind the cpu. Should I uninstall the whole motherboard, graphics card, etc., or should I go with the stock cooler and hope that fits? I was really hoping to get the OS and drivers installed this weekend but that won't be happening any time soon if I have to reinstall the motherboard. Thanks, Nebula

So I recently built a mini-ITX build using an ASUS Z97I-PLUS, and I was planning on using a Zalman CNPS8900 CPU cooler with it, but unfortunately the heatpipes on it just barely hit the VRM heatsink on the motherboard. So I was thinking about taking the VRM heatsink off and grinding it down a bit to make clearance for the CNPS8900. I don't think I'll need to take off much, but does anyone have any sort of experience with this kind of thing? Is there anything I'm not thinking of that will lead to this being a colossal failure? -
Hi Guys, Just wanted to let you guys know (because i couldnt find a great deal of information on the subject when i was looking) how my heat sink installation went. I intended to water cool my system from the start with like a h110i or h100i but these wouldn't fit in my case (easy to find) so I had to go along the lines of a nice air cooler because i wasn't happy with the perfomance of a h80i. So after long readings and comparisons i decided to go with the silver arrow IB-E. Anyways got it yesterday and got it installed. Doesnt fit properly. I can put the heatsink in and close the case but not well. I had to go with a pull-pull set up because the first fan clashes with the RAM modules and cant be positioned. Still not a great fit due to a heatsink module on the motherboard (MSI Z97 Gaming 3). Anyways fans on, both connected to rear tower with steel clips supplied (nightmare to fit just because theyre so fiddly but they do a great job!) and time to put the case panel back on. The heat sink fits in fine with no fans but the fans protrude over the top of the heat sink module by about 5-10mm. and they clash with the case side panel. Panel still closes, but by doing this it pushes the fans further into the case putting a lot of stress on the heatsink and probably the mother board, the result is the tower of the heatsink that holds the fans has kinked slightly left. So yes it does fit but i wouldnt recommend this heatsink or any of similar size for this case and mother board! Photos to follow shortly! any1 has any questions fire away! ^^

So I was In science today and we were going over specific heat capacity. We went over oil and how it is much easier to heat up.. So I started thinking, wouldn't a PC Cool better with oil in stead of water so An oil cooling loop instead? Oil cools quicker than water, it absorbs heat quicker than water. So what would happen If I put mineral oil or some other form of oil in a water cooling loop? Please tell me if I'm wrong thinking this. Cheers, Doug

Hello guys, I am taking an unknown plunge into the world of case design here with my attempt to design an ultimate watercooling case. Here are some early renders of my concept, the design is already much improved over what you see in these renders; a serious weight loss program, much better loop design and aesthetic improvements. Ver 3.9 The way the psu draws air has been revisited, now it will draw air through the lower rad assembly, keeping the rear panel of the case looking clean.

Okay I am planning a Steam Machine kind of build and I am gonna pair a Athlon X4 860K with a GTX 960 and I am now having a small issue, should I buy a aftermarket cooler or use the one from my FX-8370? You may think "hold on those reach 60db!!!" but thats the thing the FX-8370 & A10-7870K both has improved FX heatsinks and with a not as loud cooler master fan? So I guess the question is what will the noise level be bearable when using a 125w cooler on a 95w CPU? Also is it safe? It should be when it is shipped with A10-7870K... Hey guys, my current graphics card has been underperforming and one of the possibilities is thermal-throttling. Even if the fan isn't due to regular air-can use, the heatsink isn't as easy to reach as I'd like and has become gunked up - blasting the heatsink with air from many an angle doesn't get the job done. I assume the next step is to take the cooler off the card and clean it that way. Here's the front of the card: It has three screws holding it in to the heatsink (from the looks of it). Here's the back of the card: It has four screws which appear in the majority of tutorials for taking apart the card, although one of them has a sticker on, so I'm not entirely sure I should remove those since there's no guarantee that it will solve the issue with the card, and would mean that if it's actually defective, I can't return it. What should I do next?

Hi there! I'm planning on building a new PC soon. Out of all the motherboards that I've looked at the ASUS Z97-WS(http://i.imgur.com/rzwv3TG.jpg) seems to fit my needs the best, there's just one problem. I hate the gold accents on the heatsinks. What I would like to do is paint the heatsinks white to fit the general Black & White theme of the case and the other components. I've never painted any PC components or done any case or component modding, and an (Admittedly small) amount of googling has brought up wildly varying results ranging from "Don't paint the heatsinks on your motherboard" to "It'll be fine." I have 3 questions, Will painting the heatsinks cause an increase in temperature or could the paint completely prevent the heatsinks from dispersing the heat by insulating it? If not, what paint is recommended for painting a heatsink? I've read that plasti-dip will insulate the heatsink and that there are conductive paints that could damage components on the motherboard. What is the best method for painting the heatsinks? A video would be extremely helpful. Thanks for the advice in advance!

Hey guys, I'm interested in aftermarket passive MOSFET and southbridge coolers (since they seem like a good way to colour match the motherboard with the rest of the build), and I was wondering if any of you have had any experience with them. Also, I want to know what sizes and how many I would need - specifically for the msi Z87 GD65 motherboard. Here are the MOSFET and southbridge coolers which I was looking at. 95 ºC on CPU & Throttling for *no apparent reason So this is a Samsung laptop, i5-2450M @2.5 GHz - stock - with up to 3.2 on turbo boost, or something. I have had this laptop for close to 3 years, and in the last 1-2 months, game performance started to get real bad, horrible FPS drops and whatnot. Turns out my CPU is running at ~70ºC AT IDLE and when I fire up a game (CS:GO, for example), the temperatures go up to 95 ºC, which causes it to throttle the max freq to 31% every few seconds, until it cools enough to go back to normal, heats up instantly, repeat (throttling happens at the same time as FPS drops, naturally). On Payday 2 it's even worse, the max frequency just locks at 31%. Worth noting: -The heatsink on the laptop was replaced a few months back (my guess would be 6 months) because of a malfunctioning fan -2 days ago, I went to my local PC shop to get the dust off and change the thermal paste (the pc man said it wasn't dusty and the old paste was still good, still cleaned it and changed the paste) -And I still get these crazy temperatures. -I even opened it up and unscrewed the heatsink a bit, and then re-tightened it, just to be sure. Still no change. -When I opened it up, I loaded CS:GO with the laptop still open, and indeed, the copper heatsink was incredibly hot (this means the heatink is seated properly and transferring heat!), and the fan is blowing hot air at full speed. -I even use a laptop platform with 2 fans My suspicions: -CPU is not working properly and is producing too much heat for some reason -GPU [GTX 520MX] is doing it instead (shared heatsink) MOST LIKELY SINCE IT IS HITTING ~97ºC, even higher than CPU I have literally no idea why this is happening and would really appreciate any input. Hi guys! So, the other day I noticed my AMD FX-9350 CPU temps were getting very high at idle (around 50-60 degrees celsius) with a H100i colling it. Doing some digging around on the good old internet and using my ears, I came to the conclusion that my pump had broken. Shit. So, I went to the Corsair website and did an RMA thing and they have give the go ahead for me to send it back and get a replacement. This means taking it out of the computer and packing it up, leaving me with no cooler. Except an AMD stock heatsink and fan that I got with an older AMD processor (FX-4100). Since the 9350 didn't come with any cooler, and AMD say that it's recommended that you use either an aftermarket cooler, a closed loop or an open loop water cooler, I was wondering, is this true? Would I be able to run my computer on the stock cooler for a couple of weeks while I get it sorted? I just don't want to be without my source of games or I'll die. (Okay, maybe not die, but you get my vibe.) TL;DR would I be able to use a stock AMD cooler on an AMD FX-9350, just for a couple of weeks? Thanks

I tried to gently remove my heatsink from my cpu, pulled it with the cpu completely, no pins were bend luckily. The model is a Phenom II x4 955, what do I do to take it apart from the heatsink (it is stock). I have tried everything, nothing works Ps. I didnt build the PC so I dont know what compound the builder used. Thanks!

So I have a Phanteks PH-TC12DX and I was wondering if I replace the fans on it with one with a higher static pressure like lets say two Noctua Fan NF-F12s will I get a noticeable decrease in temps.
