To start off, please don't argue about "transferring cold." I did well in science so I know there isn't actually a thing as "transferring cold." This is just the easiest way to word what I'm doing. Anyway, I'm building a humidor for my cigars. I live in northern Idaho and my house doesn't have central AC so parts of my house get too hot (almost 80 degrees during the hot summer) for cigars. I need to keep my cigars around 70 degrees. I need more storage than a box so I'm turning an endtable into a humidor. My plan: Arduino to control temperature from a peltier pad. I'll build the pad into the back of the endtable with the hot side out of the table and the cold side inside with a fan. I picked up some junk heatsinks. One was a solid aluminum heatsink with fins, and the other was one with heatpipes. Real junk. I found it in a box with a Celeron processor from 1998. First off, does thermal paste work for "transferring the cold" from the cold side of the peltier pad? Second, which heatsink should I use on the cold side? Will heatpipes work transferring the cold to the humidor/endtable or should I use the solid heatsink for the cold side?

Hi guys, I recently purchase a XPG Storm SSD M.2 heatsink. I read some good reviews online and I found a couple of videos on YouTube. I'm using the cooler on a Kingston hyperx and after running a few stress tests I noticed 5°C drop, from ~71C to ~66C. The SSD comes with a sticker on top. My question is, does removing that sticker can help in a better heat transfer between the SSD and the heatsink? Or will make it worst? The heatsink comes with a thermal pad of the same lenght of the SSD. I'm not really worried about losing the warranty, I live in Mexico and is pretty hard to get any customer support from manufacturers. Cheers.

Hi everyone, I recently bought a tx3 Evo heatsink from Cooler Master, which comes with one fan in a push configuration. I want to add another fan to blow air from the other side, and will probably buy a 92mm fan from Noctua (I know, bit of an overkill since a single fan from noctua costs almost as much as the whole heatsink). What I want to know is: should I use the noctua fan, arguably the most performing between the two, to pull air or to push it? For everyone wondering, I am doing this because I live in a quite hot place, and especially now in summer my cpu temp got up to 86C during video rendering. I have a sharkoon tg5 case with the 4 preinstalled fans.

Hey all, I just bought a Asus prime b350m-k to go with my ryzen 5 1600. I want to overclock to around 3.8ghz, system will be used mostly for games and rendering game recordings (for sick montage videos, of course). I didn't even think about this when I bought it but the mobo has no heatsinks over the vrm. Are the VRM components decent and would they perform well if I added a heatsink to them or are they trash, and should I refund the board and get another one? Thanks heaps and have a great day. Msi recently made a blog post about how larger heatsink that extends towards the edge of the motherboard gave better cooling performance. They took their b360 motar and compared it with an Asus B360 strix, both in the $100ish price range and the results were, . They also mentioned Looking at the design of the Msi heatsink it offers zero air flow to cut through the heatsink, since it's just a giant slab of aluminum. Proper heatsink have slits allowing air to pass through. https://wccftech.com/msi-mocks-asus-motherboard-vrm-heatsink-design/ https://www.msi.com/blog/extended-heatsink-msi-vs-asus-rog-strix-b360-gaming

Hello, i bought Scythe Ninja 5 for my Fractal Design Define Mini C. Is it okay if i use fanless heatsink to cool my i5 8400 using the heatsink from the Scythe Ninja 5? No ram clearance issues but with the fans on, the fans will covered up my RAM, just for aesthetic. Any recommendation like more powerfull fans etc? Thank You. Current set up: - 2x Phanteks PH-140TS in front as intake -2x Fractal Design Dynamic X2 GP-12, 1 top and 1 back as outtake -1x Kaze Flex 120mm at the top as outtake. -RAM: 8gb Hyperx Fury DDR4 -MOBO: B360M Bazooka -GPU: Asus Strix Gtx1070ti

hey everyone. i do have experience painting models (gunpla). I have quite a bit of blue tamiya acrylic blue left. Would this paint be okay to use? I'm also somewhat unfamiliar of the procedure for this type of painting. I would usually submerge whatever plastic I'd be working with in water for 24-48 hours (release any top coatings it may have), let it dry, then start painting. i saw elsewhere that you should still sand the surface. Just want to make sure I do this right. for reference, would like to paint both the rear IO cover, chipsets heatsink, and (MAYBE) top vrm heatsink on the asus z170ar

Hello! Current build: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/Yose/saved/ymZNnQ I'm thinking about downsizing to a NZXT h400i and I want this to be my last upgrade (downsize) for several years. I'm looking to buy a set of 3 Corsair ml120 rgb fans, as well as a Asus strix gtx 1070 RGB. I was wondering if there are enough fan connections to power the three fans I'm looking at. I'm also wondering if there's a way to get an RGB fan onto my current CPU heat sink because I don't really like the plain, black fan that the Hyper t4 initially comes with. I'm hoping there's a way I could use a corsair ml 120 pro rgb as my heat sink fan to keep the colors in my case as consistent as possible. Will buy more fans if necessary. I've yet to find a way to mount one of these fans on the t4, however. Would I need to buy one of those usb 2.0 header hub things or am I okay with the hub that the h400i comes with? Are there any mounts out there to put a corsair ml 120 pro rgb onto the hyper t4 cpu cooler heatsink? Thank you!

Hello, I recently purchased Asus g20cb(used). PC runs really well but seems like it has some problem with overheating. CPU heats up to 99 while installing something or playing games. I suppose heatsink is the problem because the metal part does not heat up at all (cold pipes). And it blows pretty cold air from the case too. As cpu overheats, it throttles fans so hard and so loud. I am thinking to swap heatsink (if it will be possible) or use an alternate solution,, like attaching coolermaster fan (pain in the butt because i would have to take this thing apart completely). Any suggestions? Would the swap of heatsink help? Is heatsink from g20aj compatible with g20cb? Thank you, guys.

I was wondering if the old AMD Silent 125W cooler is actually better than the new AMD Spire cooler since the Spire is only rated at 95W. The old Silent 125W go for real cheap so would there be a big enough difference to make it worth the ~$20?

I have Asus Turbo GTX 1080. And yeah temperature goes upto 85 degrees under load. What if I put a good quality fan directly on stock heatsink by removing the front plastic cover. Any benefit in cooling it down? Thanks!

Does fan static pressure effect cooling on a heatsink? Like if a fan had a greater cfm but lower static pressure vs lower cfm but higher static pressure! Thanks for the feedback!

I'm upgrading from a stock Intel heatsink to a new cooler but I can't find my isopropyl alcohol, I've never replaced a heatsink before, I changed a CPU on a laptop though, I want to save myself some hassle and just use a dry paper towel or something but I'm not sure if I can damage my CPU or CPU socket by scrubbing the thermal paste off, obviously I will have to put pressure on the CPU and I'm not sure if that is bad for the CPU, I know heatsinks put alot of pressure on the CPU but they do it in an even manner so it's mostly fine, I'd just like to avoid taking my CPU out and I cannot find my alcohol anywhere, if anyone could suggest something to clean a CPU with that I can get easier that would also be helpful My CPU is an LGA1150 i7-4790K and I have an MSI Z97 motherboard, the cooler is also a simple clip in like the Intel cooler

I've been looking into making a custom heatsink for a case I designed myself, but when I started looking into heat pipes there wasn't an awful lot of information regarding specific details, such as which end of the heat pipe is the "head" and "foot" end, and which to apply to the heat source. Also, what are the differences between grooved, wick material and sintered heat pipes?

I have already posted this under air cooling but got no response, so I decided to try my luck here,. I have had this computer for 2-3 years now and just noticed that my cpu cooler is blowing air into the case. Can I just take out the mobo and turn the fan around so it pulls air from the heatsink instead of pushing it or do I have to turn the entire heatsink around and if so, do I need a new application of thermal paste?

hello everyone, which liquid metal is the best ? Grizzly Conductonaut or cool labs ultra liquid metal ? i will be using it to cool my CPUs (iMac - laptop and desktop) to the most extreme low temperature. so what do you guys suggest ? please elaborate in your answers and/or opinions. Thank you all

I’m looking at an ASUS 1060 Dual OC which has what appears to be an aluminium heatsink with copper plating at the GPU contact area. I know about the gallium and aluminium problems. Long story short, is it ok to use liquid metal with copper plated aluminium?

I am currently look at getting an i9 7900X, I like flashy things and the Asus ROG rampage VI is too sexy to pass up, so what would be a good heatsink to get, air cooled or water cooled and which one I am planning on doing a full water loop so this cooler will just be temporary What do you all think and thanks in advance

Now then mates how you doin' alright? First of all I'm starting a new build and hoping to get it all done and dusted before the end of summer. That is all you need to know about that before I get off topic. Now, I'm planning on using the Noctua NH-U12S with the Noctua NA-HC2 Chromax cover equipped and plonking it all in an NZXT S340 Elite. My build is going to be black and white, plain and simple. Only problem I have is that the case doesn't provide enough clearance for the heat sink with the cover on, ill be overshooting by about 5mm. So, ladies and gentlemen I've boiled it down to two options as I have my heart set on this case in all of its simple loveliness. Option 1: I ditch the Chromax cover and paint the heat sink myself with Palsti-Dip or something of the likes that will effect performance to a minimal but give my sink the black sexy look that I want from it. Because after some research (although there is little) it is clear to me that it is safe to paint heat sinks given you use the right type of paint and apply as little as possible whilst still maintaining a full and even coverage. Then this will all fit in my case with no clearance issues happy days, it'll probably look decent too so HURRAH! **Please let me know what you think of this option or if you have any information that could help me out or change my mind as to why this idea sucks. Also, if anyone has any actual temp numbers before and after a paint of this specific heat stink I'd really appreciate it.** Option 2: I go balls to the wall and contact my nearest laser cutting company who can cut tempered glass. I ask them to quote me for a cutout on glass pane that will allow the excess heat sink cover length to poke snugly outside of the case. Personally I think this would get me the best results if it all goes to plan, just to have that Chromax logo sitting in the glass you know, it would be sick. I know that this would obviously be the more difficult option and I have no idea how much it would cost to get something like this done, I also have no idea if tempered glass can even be cut like that and still maintain its structural integrity but in my mind it seems like a spot on idea. *BONUS OPTION* (Personal Favorite): I go ahead with both of the options above and have a sexy sleek black painted heat sink with the Chromax cover on top, sitting snug inside my glass panel. This is just an idea I have anyways so let me know what you think and if you think its even possible at all to cutout part of a tempered glass panel. I personally think this would look awesome. Hope this post isn't too long winded and people actually understand what I'm talking about, makes sense in my head but then I've been planning it for weeks so it would. This is my first post on this forum, don't want it to be a blunder. Cheers, Cameron. Hi, I have an i7 4770 with an aftermarket cooler, that kept always my temps down, even gaming in summer won't go over 65º Celsius, so pretty good actually (IDLE at 30-35 Celsius). I haven't changed the thermal compound in about a year now. And my CPU is now at 60º Celsius idle. Im worried lol. My PC Case is pretty clean and dust-free in general. Should I change the thermal compound right? I mean, when gaming temps don't go over 70º, is not THAT bad. PD: I need this CPU working for 2 or 3 more years, so, changing the thermal compound is a must, right? Thanks! CPU Cooler: Thermaltake Contac 21 Thermalcompound I use: DeepCool Z3

I would really love to see a video going into the effects of properly applying a heatsink/ thermal paste on different CPUs. mainly focused on how the heat pipes cross over the "hot spots" of a CPU as shown in the picture attached. I can't find a great deal of information online when it comes to the thermal heat-print of a wide variety of CPU's although this article (once translated) coves and explains most of the information in a great deal. it would just be nice too have something that everyone could easily understand and give thought too when building a pc. https://www.tomshw.it/paste-termiche-confronto-85-prodotti-prova-87649-p7
