Ok so a week before Christmas, there was an error in crystal disk info on one of my drives. It looked like this: Hard disk sentinel was also showing 33% health. So I started backing up my files and deleted everything afterwards. Then I ran a surface test and repaired the drive to try my luck. After which, it gave me these results: Then I turned off my computer for around 2 days and opened crystaldiskinfo and it showed me this: So I just wanted to ask if anyone have any idea what happened to the drive? Is it totally safe to use for important files? is crystaldisk showing me wrong readings? As of now, Im using the drive for games but I still would like to know if it's still safe to use or it would die soon.

For the past few years I've been struggling with depression. Part of my treatment has been neurotherapy. It's really fascinating technology. The basics are that your therapist places electrodes (I think that's what they're called) on your head that are connected to a computer. Then the software uses the location of the electrodes, plus visual and audio elements from a tv, to help your brain build healthier pathways. You can watch movies, or even play some games, while the software does it's work. Oh, and I haven't experienced it, but they're working on a VR version as well. For me, it's been very effective. I'm on medication as well, but when I've missed a neurotherapy session for longer than normal, I definitely feel it. There's been times where I'm at a 5, on a 1 to 10 scale, at the start of a session, and by the end I'm up to a 7 or 8. (Haven't reached 10 in years... Depression sucks.) The place I go for both neurotherapy and Counseling is CAFA. (Christian As Family Advocates) http://www.cafaweb.com/ Their offices are in Eugene, Oregon. They provide a lot of family and mental health services. Don't let the "Christian" part scare you. Both my therapist, and I, are committed Christians. Yet he still only brings as much of our faith into our sessions as I want. If you are not a Christian, they are not going to push any religion on you. If you live near Eugene, and are struggling with depression, I highly recommend calling and getting on a waiting list, or just seeing if you can see someone quickly for neurotherapy. (Yes, they are that busy.) The system CAFA uses is Cygnet. http://www.beemedic.com/cygnet.html Ok, so here's the video idea. I think this does fit LTT's interest in the intersection between daily computer stuff and the deeper science stuff. Like the recent video on the gravitational waves observatory. Plus, there are games. Seriously. "Play games to fix your brain!" sounds like a good LTT video title. :) If I were to plan the video, I'd do a section on the theory and science behind the technology. Then a section on how it's used in the real world. Ideally at CAFA, rather than a place with the money to have all the bells and whistles. That would give people a good idea on what it really looks like in the real world. Finally, and this is what made me think the idea through... It would be a fun to see LTT work with their sponsors to get CAFA some hardware upgrades. There are times I can hear the laptop's fan roaring at max, even over the sound of the tv... So some more powerful pc's might help. Also, they are using the TV speakers. A sound bar, or something, would be pretty cool. Finally, I don't think CAFA is going be able to get on the new VR features any time soon. So outfitting them with some VR sets compatible with their software and systems would be amazing. Of course, I really have no idea what all they actually need. So you'd want to double check what you get them will be useful. Anyway, there's my idea. :D Oh, and if anyone in the Eugene, OR area wants to talk or hang out, email me at me@davidreagan.net. Especially if you're like me and depression and other issues make it hard to get out and find friends.... *coughs*

So I was defragging my SSD, then I found on the web that defragging your SSD will reduce its lifespan I was using the Auslogics Disk Defrag Pro. I stopped it at 5%, I'm worried about my drive I checked it's health in crystal disk info and it says 100% Correct, should I be worried about its life span or it will not reduce because I stopped it at 5%?

Found on: https://www.giga.de/extra/forschung-und-wissenschaft/news/schlimmste-befuerchtung-wird-wahr-das-handy-zerstoert-unsere-augen-und-mehr/ (arcticle in German) Original Source: https://www.sehen.de/presse/pressemitteilungen/seh-gesundheit-und-technik/digitales-sehen-fortschritt-mit-risiken-und-chancen/(press release in German) A german study released this month shows that looking at digital devices like smartphones, tablets and monitors is really bad for your eyes. A growing screen time was measured for people of all ages. Experts say this leads to increasing numbers of people with related issues like myopia, strabismus, eye stress symptoms and even other (neck, shoulders etc.) and psychological issues. Even though some counter measures are know, they are not implemented or used in most cases? What do you do to prevent health issues related to the digital lifestyle? Or do you think we will have to live with it?

So, for the most part of my life I have been around, and inside of computers, and have been familiarized with them. But I have always felt specifically inclined to not want to take apart laptops for a very specific fear of health concern. Now, I'm not saying it's the good people over in china that make me weary, but it definitely doesn't contribute to motivating me to take them apart. I have always been weary of products that come from china, due to their "competitive" pricing, and don't want to point any fingers *cough* FOXCONN *cough*, but I think we have all heard some type of tech horror story from china. Before I fall off the subject I'm trying to make, I just wanted to ask some professionals on what your stance is on the safety of disassembling a laptop is. Of course, this is in the case of a person who knows computers well, and knows the laws of electricity. Specifically, and almost most importantly, with no protective gloves, because you know, american consumerism making me too lazy to remember to buy some. This question surfaced because of the multiple times that I have pulled apart a laptop, messed around, reassembled it, and my hands itched, or felt strange and raised a suspicion to this. I would appreciate any feedback I can get on this subject, as I can't seem to find any information about the health safety of laptops in general anywhere. By the way, I have an HP G1 215, by which this post is powered.

Amazon: http://geni.us/1VGp NCIX: http://bit.ly/1GOjZu9 UpDesk: http://bit.ly/1PU4sM7 Should you be using a standing desk? If so, is something like the UpDesk worth its high price when compared to its competition?

Hey guys, whenever I eat Cheez-Its, my jaw pops a lot. No other foods do this for me and it makes me dislike my 2nd favorite snack. Do any of you experience this?

I am making this thread to learn from, but also for other people to learn from. I am wanting to know some good work out habits for out home workouts, with your closest thign to gym equipment being maybe a pull up bar and some large books and crates. I myself have actually been looking for some good workout habits to start practicing at home before I go to a gym, because I am kind of a wimp, but also don't have a good gym nearby and before having to go to a gym in a different town I would like to be able to benefit at a maximum from the gym equipment. The last 2 weeks I have been doing push ups, sit ups, pull ups, and squats(with doing proper stretches before and after) and I started at doing 20 pushups, 40 sit ups, 25 pull ups, and 40 squats, but I haven't seen any major improvements and I have a protein shake occasionaly with the diet of watever the school serves for lunch(which tend to be very tiny after some Michelle Obama health laws) and some sausage eggs and bacon for breakfeast and then a variety of foods for dinner. I haven't really planned out my diet but I am looking to improve my health by getting some more muscle because we have been lugging around 400-700lbs. of different weight equipment for my band and I am one of the people who are suppose to march onto the field with props(which this year happen to be door[Real doors] and they are pretty damn heavy). So I was hoping people good just post good exercise habits and discuss health and fitness. Currently I am 130lbs. and 14 years old so idk if this is normal for my age but I am really scrawny but a lot of people say I am strong, but I still don't enjoy being scrawny. But I want to know good goals to set and information that I should probably record in a log or maybe even blog it.(not a fan of blogging I would rather just a log that no one else sees.) Read this!!! Post your daily workout routine, height, weight, and maybe age. Discuss your approach to exercise and give any advice you would like to give to the LTT Community and perhaps your opinion on the importance of a good workout routine, and a healthy diet.

I'm (seriously) eyeing the motorized UpDesk for a raising/sitting desk. But it's really really expensive; 1,049$ for the largest size (the size I want). But it's not like going smaller is going to help, it's only 200 bucks cheaper for the smallest size. And I need space for multiple monitors. (link: https://myupdesk.com/powerup/seriesIII/black-large) For some people a price like this is completely unreasonable, they don't have money to spend on a desk when it could be spent on other things, like PC parts. There's always something more useful that could be bought for a thousand bucks. But for me, I'm currently in high school, and will be starting college in a little over a year. My plan at the moment is to do 3D graphics. I've been doing them for two years already, and expect to still be doing them 20 years from now. This means that a desk is going to be a very long term investment, especially since they don't break very often (desk comes with a 5 year warrenty as well). I'm very aware that if I continue to sit in a chair at a desk for the next twenty+ years for ~8hrs a day, my health is going to suffer. I know standing desks aren't a magical cure all your problems; and I know that standing 24/7 is probably just as bad as sitting 24/7. From what I've researched, the killer is just staying still. Regardless of position, sitting/standing in the same spot for long periods is bad. This is what has motivated me to seriously consider a raisable/lowerable desk as a long term investment. I have already tried a standing desk, via stacking my two monitors and peripherals on various books and boxes, and like it quite a lot (and the cables all reach). I'm not worried about getting a standing desk and never using it because I hate it. Honestly the most annoying part of it is the 3 minutes or so it takes to move all the boxes off my desk and reset all my stuff to sitting position. Versus the 10 seconds it would take to raise or lower the Updesk. As for cost, this desk is probably possible for me to buy (my parents are also supportive, and would pitch in), but isn't a cheap purchase, and I wouldn't be buying expensive things for a while. I should note that I am happy with my current computer setup and don't foresee computer purchases in the near future. And also that a car is already taken care of; I would not be buying a desk before I had a car (priorities are straight ) Should I seriously consider building one/getting someone to build it for me? I have some woodworking/building/mechanical relatives, and I could definitely pay one of them to make a desk of the same size and with a motor to raise and lower for a much lower price. But I really like having the quality and assurance of buying something from a company that has had all minor annoyances figured out and a custom display to raise and lower with presets, etc. Are these desks worth it? Especially considering the longterm investment and usage? Are there similar desks (motorized and similar size) that are cheaper or better than the Updesk? (I already have looked on Craigslist and Ebay, nothing really looks that good) To anyone who has one: Do you like yours? Was it worth it? Edit: Thanks to whoever moved this into the peripherals section. Didn't think it classified as a peripheral.

So i have decided to make a little thread where I share my findings, and you can comment. It is informative, i decided because there is not much ( or at all ) debate about hearing safety, some people dont know, some people dont care. And some people would ignore it even if you told them. Please dont. Disclamer: I am not audio professional. Nor did I dug deep, read scientific papers or made my own tests. I just care and my own user experience that lead me to it and now i am spreading the info to you so you can research. Or just throw the info out of the window... its up to you. What we know for sure for better hearing safety: - Lower volume is always better, as low as possible for you to hear - Passive isolation of headphones blocks outside noise so you dont need to raise volume - Its good to quiet down computer / environment, so you dont need to raise volume as well. Listening to your music on the busy street, train, loud environment is a bad idea. - Time spent on high volume has to be decreased Even if you just follow those points, you made a favor to your ears and you can continue life as usual. But there is more. First point are In Ear Monitors. People recommend them and say they are safe because they seal well and you can play them at very low volume. Thus reducing pressure / decibels. Just because of that seal, in ear canal it creates pressure. It can create pneumatic pressure that can reach dangerous levels, compared to sounds rated 120db. Safe levels are considered lower than 85db for 8 hours. The ear drum also moves in and out because of the seal. There are efforts made by professionals to remove this effect either by opening the seal so no pressure can occur ( or is lessened) or making a separate "bubble" that "takes the blow". But solutions arent cheap and not well known either. People care more about sound and price theese days.

Alright so I am new to the forum, but I watch linus tech tips all the time and thought I might give it a try. I was curious as to which of the 2 methods of charging that I use damage a phone battery more. Charging overnight or using a quick charger. I know that charging over night is bad since it constantly pumps energy into your phone even after it reaches full charge since it uses energy to stay on the internet and receive notifications and what not, and I know quick chargers damage batteries since they cause great amounts of heat. I want to help extend the life of my phone so if quick charge hurts more than I was considering getting a battery bank and using that to keep my phone charged when I'm not home since I will be able to keep tabs on it. But if overnight damages it more then I'll just quick charge every day before bed since it only takes about an hour and a half to get to full charge and shut it off and remove the charger once it reaches max. Any helpful suggestions and tips are appreciated! I have a Droid Turbo in case you want to know.

Hello everyone. Since forums like this tend to attract more male users, I would like to share my experience with you. Few months ago I felt lump on my right testicle, but it turns out that was nothing. But while ultrasound exaim, they noticed some dark-black spot on left testicle. Because it was fairly small, they decided to monitor it. But after few months when I did ultrasound exaim again, they noticed it's slowly growing. They decided it's time for exploration. At that time it was unclear if it's cancerous or not, but because it started growing, they were pretty sure it's something serious. So last week I was accepted in hospitle to prepare for operation. The next day I went into surgery, where they did something called exploration. It turns out, it was tumor (so cancerous) and they decided to remove my left testicle. While that was horrible experience for me, I hope other guys will react the same if they find something going on down there. I would also recomend anyone in age between 15-35 to get examined for that once in a while. I must say that I was afraid of that surgery pretty much, but in the end it wasn't that bad as I expected it to be. Recovery for me is going very well because they found cancer in early stage and it didn't spread anywhere. For few days I was in pain and it was very hard for me to walk around and do anything, but now that's been 10 days after operation, I can finally walk and sit without any problems. That's why I would like to urge you for exaim like this, because if they find it at early stage, there are almost no risks and recovery will be fast. It realy has been only 10 days after my surgery, but I just had to test if my "friend" was still working as it should. Luckily I can still enjoy my time with girlfriend in same ways as I did before. It also doesn't feel any differend than before. Doctors will keep monitoring my health and tissues around that area if anything would start going on, but they are very optimistic for my case. So please do not hesitate, and go to the doctor as soon as you feel that something is wrong. This advice may aswell save your life. That would be all from me, but if anyone have question about that, feel free to contact me and I will do my best to provide answer. p.s.: I apologise for all grammar mistakes.

I just got over a week of back pain. The thing is, I already have a super expensive chair. So my questions are these: Who is standing at their desk right now or at least part of the time? What is your stand vs sit ratio? What type of work / stuff do you do? I'm wondering how practical these fancy standing desks are.

I've been looking for a new desk, and something caught my eye. A stand up desk, I then realized that Levelcap stands up when he games. I understand the health benefits are their, and that after a weak it becomes much for comfortable(some say that is more comfortable then sitting after a bit). Would you get a stand up desk?
