my previous headset broke and I've been trying to find a decent headset for 2 weeks now. i live in Greece. my currency isn't the dollar, it is the euro. please do not be turned off by the last two facts. i'm looking for a closed back headset with a mic that helps someone i'm talking too to understand(the mic doesn't have to be great) i will potentially use the headset for music but mostly for gaming and watching films. my budget is 70 euros or around 100 dollars. i am not an audiophile, so any decent headset will do.

My headset just broke (thank god, they were old turtle beaches) and i need to get a new set up. I plan on doing the whole headphone + clip on mic plan. I picked the ATH-M30 and Zalman clip on mic. I'm sure on the mic portion but I need help with the headphone part. I've also looked at the JVC HARX700. I'm not an audiophile but I would like a quality headphone. It has to be around 50 or nothing, I can't swing anymore. I understand that the higher the price, the longer lasting but I cannot afford to go there. Any help would be appreciated.

Please Help me i have no idea what to do. May 3 2013, i received my In Ear Flux Pro Headphones from steelseries. opening them up i realized that the 4th Pole on the 3.5mm jack would come out. So i submitted a ticket. May 14 i received an email saying sorry for the delay it was sent to IT admin by error by one of the support team member. He asked for address to send the part and said it would be shipped with in a week. i gave the information and stated "no worries mistakes happen" the same day. May 28th i replied saying mike what is going on nothing has been sent or received. I messaged LInus about it and i was extremely grateful when he replied saying he would help me out. May 30th he replied saying sorry shipping at the end of the day. June 7th after receiving nothing i asked if there was something going on he said no just IT error. July 16th Today, Just received the part in the mail..... they sent the wrong attachment they sent the split headphone mic and headphone instead of the clearly stated on May 3rd 4 pole 3.5 mm I seriously appreciate this forum and your speedy reply, unfortunately i have no idea what to do. i Seriously think that waiting two and a half months for one small attachment is ridiculous, by any company. I really don't want to wait another 2 months. Keep in mind i was extremely polite and the extent of my anger in messages was only saying that i was frustrated. Is there any other way they can be contacted? Any ideas? Bad luck? Please Help Thanks Richard

Alright, finally done with the cheap stuff. The big cans are comimg out. Build The headband has a nice meshed material on the bottom and a nice leathery top with SHURE pressed in. Plenty of padding for me, and headband wise I've had no comfort issues. Nice leathery soft pads, comfortable for the most part I feel they could be a little deeper as my ears can press against the inside and after a few hours start to hurt. I don't think I have huge ears, but I do know they are pretty sensitive after a few hours, and I can fix the discomfort by taking a quick break or adjusting them slightly. For having plastic hinges and headbands they are really strong. Shure didn't skimp on using plastic, everything feels really thick and solid. great for travel where they may get tossed around or smushed a little. Has a nice coiled detachable cable with a screw on/off 1/4" adapter. The connection on the headphone side is a locking 3/32" Sound Innerfidelity graphs here http://www.innerfidelity.com/images/ShureSRH840.pdf I'm using my M^3 amp and a xindac dac-5 w/ tube output. I have to say, for drums, bass and guitar, these are my favorite headphones I've heard. very detailed, and instrumental separation is great. I strongly recommend at LEAST 320kbps with these if not flac. That goes with any headphone, but when you spend this much on headphones you better know what you're getting into. The bass is slightly(very slightly) strong for me, and it could have better extension, but to get that I think you may be paying ~3x as much. everything else just seems to fall inline, with it's very flat response. Male vocals seem a little more forward than female vocals, but it may be the recordings as I only have a couple albums with female vocals. I really don't know what else to say about the sound quality. They are fantastic and only a small step below even my HE-500's IMO. The biggest problem for me isn't not the headphones. That problem is with whoever is recording the music. you can really tell who cares about what they are recording and who doesn't. FUN MOD I have an adapter and a 4" mini cable and hot glued some velcro to the phones and a sansa clip+ for almost wireless headphones. Final Thoughts Great phones and I from other phones I've heard are right at the peak of the the price to performance ratio, IMO. Fantastic sounding headphones for music and movies, I would however recommend something open(ad700's or hd5x8 off the top of my head) for gaming. I bought these for portable use and already owned the HD595's. Fantastic combo, as I had the HD595's for gaming and lighter music, and the srh-840's for movies and heavier music.

Hi guys after watching the more recent WAN show's and seeing the pairs of Razer Kraken Pros that Linus and Slick have been using i've been considering buying a new gaming headset. I know that on the most recent WAN show someone asked what would be the best headset for gaming and both Linus and Slick replied with that they recommend buying a pair of decent Headphones and a mic. My problem with this is that I have very little desk space therefore i cannot fit a mic on my desk, so that's why I need a headset with a built in mic before anybody recommends I do as Linus and Slick recommended. I've considered the Kraken Pros but some are saying that the sound quality isn't that good, could anybody verify this? Also if this is true what would you guys recommend that I buy instead? My budget would be anything upto £100, i've been using Turtle Beach for roughly 3 years and currently have a pair of X12s just to throw that out there Any advice would be appreciated.

I have two pairs of headphones I like to use, my ATH m-30's and my ATH M-50's both very good, pretty high end audio headphones but both have developed a rattle with bass heavy music or bass heavy voices that I find quite annoying, It's a constant rattle and it is hard to not hear. Is their anyway to fix this? I know it could be a hair or something on the drivers but if it's not that what else could it be? I would really not like to have to buy a new pair of either since I have very little money since my GTX 590 purchase. I don't have my warranty's on either of them anymore so send them back to Audio Techncia is really a no go either. I'd love some help if any on this and I am sure many people have had this problem with headphones in the past as well if not still having it. Thanks!

more phone pics with LED strip lighting, yay Build I never know where to start on these reviews, but I'll start it from the top. The headband is 2 thin strips of aluminum. It would have been nice to incorporate a cover so tiny hairs don't get cought, as pulling hairs out of your scalp hurts, a lot. I would have also liked to see some notches so it stays the size you want it as I have to hold the headband where I want as I put them on, There is a small metal clip so when folded up you can clip it and make it even smaller. The earpads are just a little thick for being put in a pocket when folded up, but they still remain pretty small. They do come with a small pouch that they fit in when folded. For some reason someone thought these little tabs were a great idea. it goes from light to firm and only adjusts the angle of the earcups. They don't clip in, and it gets reset to firm if you fold up the earcups. I might consider using them if they locked in a position, but it doesn't seem to change much anyway so I just leave it at firm. Sound Innerfidelity graphs here http://www.innerfidelity.com/images/KossPortaPro.pdf BASS, WOW, you like bass get these, there's tons of it. Fortunately they don't just out shake all the mids and treble, but they are recessed in comparison. They still remain to sound composed and fairly linear(not neutral flat, but I feel they lack severe dips/peaks) even having as much bass as they do. My Ideal phone would have lower bass and much more treble, but at $35 for something portable, I can't complain. Final Thoughts Not a perfect headphone, but they only cost $35 If they were my main headphone, I think I would have still been happy with them if they cost twice what I paid.

To start things off, I'm not an IEM guy. I've owned a few, but always preferred the supra/circumaural phones. Customer Service I ordered mine from newegg, got them, and opened them up. When I was trying to take the silicone eartip off, the whole driver housing broke off. normally I'd just pull out the soldering iron and glue it back together and it'd be fixed in 5min, but the driver sits too far in the housing for me to get my soldering iron in. Contact Meelec, tell them what happend, and send them some pics. A week or 2 later, a new set of phones come in, Just the phones, no accessories(they told me to keep all that, so it was expected) Fantastic Service, no complaints at all with the experience. Build For accessories, it comes with 1 set of bi-flange tips, 3 sets of single flange tips(Sm, M, Lg) and a nice little hard case. They use a ceramic housing, and when I first heard that I expected it to be fragile. It's a small housing but it has some heft to it, and doesn't feel fragile at all once it's in your hands. For problems; the little strain reliefs at the bottom of the ceramic housing have both started come loose. It may be I put to much pressure on them when I take them out and put them in, nothing a little glue can't fix. Not sure if I should put this here or under sound, but there is some nasty driver flex from the left side, if I put them in wrong, causing weird sound and bad balance. It usually takes 2-3 tries to get both sounding similar. Sound The bass is a little strong for me, The bass is the reason I'm not a fan of IEM's. I just haven't found any bass light enough for me. The mids seem to dip slightly but the treble is back up to a level just below the bass. Altogether, much more composed sounding than the monoprice, and much more neutral than the koss porta pros. The detail seems to be a step up from the porta pros as well. Very good IEM from someone who doesn't like IEM's. I haven't used the mic at all, so no comment on that feature. Final Thoughts If I don't need isolation and the surroundings are decently quiet, I'll usually reach for my porta pros, despite these sounding better, but for work or travel where isolation is important, I always reach for these. Great sounding for the price, and IMO, great for an IEM.

Hi Guys, in the near future i want to buy me some new headphones. But i don´t know if i should go with the DT 770 pro from Bayerdynamics ( http://www.beyerdynamic.de/shop/dt-770-pro-80-ohm.htm ) and some external mic or with the Custom one pro from Bayerdynamics ( http://www.beyerdynamic.de/shop/hah/headphones-and-headsets/mobile-portable/custom-one-pro.html) where you can attach a mic. I want to use them most of the time on my PC but also while traveling The other Question is with the DT 770 which impedance (ohm) should i go Thanks for help

So I'm getting a new build: FX 6300 8GB RAM R9 270X Possibly a SSD Possibly a Mini Itx case in which case i will go for a i5 4670 So I planned my build, I currently have 4850kn which is equal to arround 760 dollars. Now i look at my desk, and see my "Trust" headset and realize: "This peace of shit is completely broken" mainly because my stupid brother decided to troll me and sit on me while I was gaming, so except he almost broke my entire laptop screen he broke my headset jack, those were actually good headphones. But now i look, which headset/headphones should I buy? So I don't need a mic, I can have a clip-on one which quality is better than any headset's microphone. Now, money isn't the problem, but gaming here... Okay? Still not something uberly-1000 dollars-overpriced-getthis-thing-that-is-no-different-from-a-200-dollar-headset-with-an-amp.... So i looked trough the internet, and found out that Logitech 230/530's are awesome headsets, better than any else (I did some research). And now i look again on the internet: "Headsets SUCK!" and i realized. I need to get headphones, i was thinking about sennheisers 350 with fiio D10 amp. Can someone explain me the difference between a sound card and an amp/dac? And should i choose something like a g230 or the senns?

In terms of pure audio quality, where do good iem's like Shure SE215-K fall in comparison to earphones like the srh 440 or hd 558 which are not too far apart in terms of price.

Hey there. I'm not really an expert on the topic of headphones/headset. I need something relatively cheap, mostly used for (FPS) gaming, for games like Arma 2, OA and mostly Arma 3. Besides, I currently have speakers and a separate microphone right now, and whenever I talk over voice chat (TS3, Skype or in-game VoIP), my friends and team mates hear themselves as well ass my game sound effects whenever my mic is transmitting sounds. Surround effect is really important for me as well. I want to hear where my enemies are coming from or which direction am I taking fire from. It helps a lot with my situational awareness, especially in ArmA. Now this might be a stupid question, but do I need 5.1 speakers for surround? Or am I good to go with something cheaper that doesn't support 5.1 surround? tl;dr: I need some cheap headphones for gaming and voice chat, preferably with mic attached. Surround effect is important. Budget is around 45$, 50 top. Is it even possible to get what I need with such a low budget? Feel free to tell me if my budget is ridiculously low, but like I said, I have no clue about headphones nor their prices. I don't even know where to start looking. Any help is appreciated.

What's up everyone, audio newb here! So I'm looking for a new pair of headphones with a budget of max. 200CHF(~200$). I'm not gonna be wearing them publicly and I don't have an amp/DAC. I just need something comfortable and also with great sound quality without any extra equipment. I also don't use FLAC for my music, but good ol' Spotify. I've been looking at the ATH-M50s, the DT770s and the AKG K271 MK IIs. If you recommend any of these or others, please let me know Right now I'm leaning towards the AKG K271s. Thanks a ton!

Ok so I have recently taken an interest in good headphones and sound quality and was looking at the ath-m50 by audio technica. I don't know if it's worth going for it since I currently have the 'orion' by Asus which are definately good but I can't tell if they are comparable to the m50s. I am also open to other headphone suggestions at that price point or if it would be a better move to go for a sound card instead and if so which one (I would go for an Asus xonar card but which one?). Thanks

So, I am thinking about buying a Canon T3i, but one of the things that has turned me away is that it don't have a headphone jack for monitoring. However, I saw this, and I wondered what people's experiences were trying this.

This is my post from earlier on the peripherals section before I realized I posted on the wrong section. My max budget is $150. I am looking for a new set of headphones to be paired with my Zalman Mic-1 which I just got 2 days ago. I listen to music a lot, so audio quality for music is more important than for gaming. I love a sort of balanced profile, deep bass (but not too much), clear and bright mids and treble. It doesn't have to be a closed one, but it has to be over-the-ear. I have managed to do some research and here are some of the headphones that are recommended by a lot of people. Now I need help to make a decision.

I'm looking for a headset with the following features: 7.1 or 5.1 surround sound (if not digital tell me why digital is bad) Leatherette ear cups (with noise canceling) Comfortable with extended use Good quality sound (i listen to music with lots of bass) Microphone that is really good Price under $150 AUD (maybe $200) USB or 3.5mm (pink and green jack) Hopefully a controller with volume and mic mute whether on the cord are headset. I'm looking for something to game with for hours on end but have great sound as well I'm currently using the Logitech G35 7.1 surround sound headset but am looking for something more reliable and hopefully better. There are so many to choose from and not enough thorough reviews for me to make a definite decision. Please share your experiences, opinions and recommendations on any headsets that have the above features. What are the pro's and cons of your recommendations? Thank you for your help.

So Here is my review on the Audtio Technica ATH-M50x So the first thing you might notice is that these have no cable, the original m50's had a fixed cable which could be bought in a coiled or a straight version. The new "x" version comes with 3 detachable cables, one is coiled, one is a short straight one (about the length of apple earbud cables) and finally a long straight one about 3 meters long. It is good enough to put into you soundcard at the back of your pc and give you plenty of room to move. The detachable cabe is actually great. I leave one in my computer, one in my guitar amp (it comes with the 1/4" adapter, though they are standard 3.5mm), and i leave my short one with my headphones. These headphones work fine on mobile and my old ipod shuffle has enough juice to make them decent (not uncomfortable, but loud enough that it sounds great). The earcups are the main complaint of the headphones. The clamping pressure is kind of tight, and these things are rock hard. The deathadder 2013 doesn't compress it at all, and it springs back immediately. If you are planning on buying these, replacement earcups are a must. I believe that anything that works on the original m50 would work on these, This is what the connection to the headset looks like . It is fairly strong and I can attach it and deatach them without takign them off. This makes them a lot easier to fit in a backpack. I wouldn't recommend using the bag it comes with because it probably only protects the headphones from a strong breeze. The headphones are built great, but the bag is made from the same crappy materials used on the earcups. After taking off the earcups, you see the driver cover. If you think it looks like it protrudes out too much, you would be right. The cups are too thin to take your ears away from it, so if you have normal ears they can be uncomfortable. If you have monkey ears it is probably worse. I have heard buying aftermarket earcups fixes this problem for most people. The inside of the headphones look pretty normal like most headphones. The foam they used is very hard, and I don't know if that is a good thing. The screwdriver is to show just how hard the foam is. I am putting a large amount of force on that, and it seemed like it would break if I put any more force on it. I am not going to comment on the sound. Everyone has heard of the sound quality of the m50's and these are just more of the same. If you are looking for gaming headphones these are not them. Buy something with a mic on it because the sound quality isn't that much better than some good gaming headphones. I have the PC350, and though the warranty sucks on them, they are great as gaming headphones. here is the link to the gallery of all of these images plus a bonus one. http://imgur.com/a/ZZz1r

Can any audiophiles recommend headphones ($100~$175) and if needed. an amp ($100~$150) to interface with the Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium HD>>>>http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16829102033 This is going to be used mainly for gaming. A ModMIc 3.0 will be used for the headphones. http://www.modmic.com/collections/frontpage/products/modmic-3-0 And if there are better options, please make a recommendation.

Hi I am looking for a pair of (preferably) in ear Headphone. I have a very max of £100 (i'm in the UK) but would like to spend less. What do you think is the best pair of headphones, i mainly listen to bass heavy music and play games. Thanks

Hi there LinusTechforums, I'm here to ask a simple, but complicated question, posed so many times before me on this board: What headphones should I get? I've seen many of the other threads and I have taken into account many recommended headphones; at the end of this post I will post what I think fits, but please let me know what your opinions are. :) Not-so-short Headphone Biography: So until recently I've been using TurtleBeach X12's for all my headphone and microphone needs. It was a good until the plastic swivel holding the right earpiece broke, leaving the right ear-cup to dangle there on my headphone stand, taunting me... I have a pair of 'backup headphones,' Koss PRO DJ 100's but I find wearing them for more than an hour hurts my ears; I can't stand anything ON my ears so I literally stuff my earlobes inside the cup... Go ahead, laugh.. I like trying new things so I'm trying an external mic setup with the Audio-Technica ATR2500, currently shipping. Plans for a new headphone for me include a LOT of Skype, which I use while playing games of pretty much all genres while I simultaneously play music in the background, generally some sort of Electronic dance mixes or Vocaloid of all flavors. For style I need around the ear design, it just needs to happen. I'm looking for closed back because I don't want to chance interference with the mic, and I also want to drown out my roommate when needed. I don't really care about the connection type TOO much, since I don't know any reason why I should care? I don't have any fancy sound cards, or headphone amps, I'm sort of working my way from the outside-in with my audio system, for now I'm using on-board sound and I don't see an upgrade otherwise for at least several months. I don't really want to spend more than 200, but I can stretch my budget to 250ish if something is really that much better. No idea how helpful any of the above information can actually be, but I figure why not add everything right? that WAS everything right? TLDR: Following the format listed by the sticky, here are the meat and potatoes; Optimal Budget <$200 Aim Skype > Music > Gaming Style Closed, Around the Ear Connection Type 3.5mm, USB Audio taste/genres Electronic Sound Card GA-Z77X-UP5 TH "Realtek ALC898 with High Quality 110dB SNR HD audio" Microphone Audio-Technica ATR2500 My list of prospective Headphones, in order of the tabs open in Firefox: Audio-Technica ATH-M50S AKG K271 MK II Audio-Technica ATH-A700X You can ask me how or why I choose these, but the answers are pretty much; 'oh that one's suggested a LOT,' or 'dude that one looks cool.'

I bought the KIlpsch S4i because they were suggested to me as a replacement for the headphones that I used to use with my phone and because they are almost always 50% off on Amazon. In no way, shape, or form am I an audio expert so I can't really give the fine details regarding the sound. What I can say is that I was really surprised by how good these headphones are, but let's get into the review. Specs DRIVE COMPONENTS: Full range KG 25 FREQUENCY RESPONSE: 10Hz-19kHz IMPEDANCE: 18 ohms INPUT CONNECTIONS: 3.5mm NOISE ISOLATION: -16 SENSITIVITY: 110dB SPL/mW WEIGHT: 11.9 grams (Directly from the Klipsch page for the S4i's: http://www.klipsch.com/image-s4i-black-in-ear-headset) Presentation of Product The box that the headphones come in is very nice and says pretty much everything you need to know about the headphones at a glance. Inside you'll find the headphones with the medium eartips already installed, a small metallic carrying case. el manuel, and a baggie with various eartips. For an unboxing, check this video out: Comfort I've never really been a fan of in-ear headphones but the S4i's suit my ears well and the various eartips included can be used if you don't like the ones that come on the S4i's. Although I find that after extended use thay can become loose in my ears. Sound Sound is good. Like I said I'm not an audio expert but I can say that the audio for these headphones rivals that of headphones three times the price. I can hear my music clearly and the bass is definitely there but doesn't over power the rest of the song. Also, the in-line controls I assume work well but I can't use them since I have an Android phone. Conclusion For the price I think these are an amazing value when it comes to headphones. Like I have said already, I'm not an audio expert so I encourage you to look around for other reviews from other people. Thanks for reading and I hope I wrote a good review for the Forum! :)

I just got a brand new Define R4 case and transferred all the internals of my old computer to it. Everything is working great except for the front panel headphone jack. When I plug in my headphones and listen to music or some YouTube video, the audio sounds very weird. There are no bass frequencies, and sometimes the voices in music will go out but the instruments are still audible. To me it sounds like an audio channel issue, but as far as I know 3.5mm headphone jacks are two-channel right? If I plug my headphones into the back of my sound card everything sounds perfect. I have tried changing settings for the front panel audio connector in the sound card settings program to no avail. After some experimentation, and with some fear of breaking the headphone jack, I discovered that if I put a great amount of force on the headphone plug while it is in the jack and slightly put some pressure to the side as well, the audio comes in perfect. As soon as I let go of the plug the audio goes all weird again. Are there multiple contacts inside the headphone jack for different audio channels? I am wondering because it seems like the headphone plug is not making contact with at least one of them, because certain "channels" of audio sound fine, while bass is not there and sometimes vocals are not either. Any help with this issue would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. EDIT: This post on another forum seems to match my issue, but there is very little information given. The reply it received mentioned something about a ground connection, but I have no idea what that has to do with the problem. Maybe someone can take a look at that post for more information that they can better interpret to help me. http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/1860973 EDIT2: This describes my problem exactly, sounds like a front panel headphone jack hardware issue. http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/311784-28-front-panel-audio-broken It appears that I may have to contact Fractal Design and request a new headphone jack or front panel I/O assembly under warranty. If you have anything you would like to add that may still fix my problem please do so.

Hi I was just sitting and playing when my headphones started loosing sound. I think it is some kind of a loos connection in the volume-control. My headset it a Steelseries 3h
