Since the start that i got my hands on a used XFX HD7950, i had the problem that the fans won't spin under 80% fanspeed. The bearings are really smooth and both fans are easily moved by a small breeze. Besides that the fans won't spin un 80%, my memory clock is locked at 1250 MHz. I'm unable to change this in the Crimson software. Both these problems make my card run either, very hot (95 degrees celsius) or very loud at 100% fan speed due to thermal throttling. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling all software. I even tried it with the AMD Clean Uninstall Utility. I'm also unable to switch bios settings because there is no bios switch on this card (in case it is bricked). However the soldering points do exist. Also flashing the bios will not change anything either. I've tried it multiple times on multiple ways, nothing seems to make a diference. Does someone know how to solve this problem? This card is still very good at running modern games at very high settings on 1080p60 and it would be a waste of money to buy a new one. Hope someone knows a solution.

I have a very complicated problem. I really need help fast. So I wanted to install new radeon 17.3.1 drivers for my hd7950. So first the old driver got uninstalled. I picked the right driver for my windows 8.1 build. I started install and when the "installing amd display driver" part came up it prompted me to confirm whether I want to install the driver or not. I clicked YES and then I get a blue screen. This happens everytime now. So I tried going back to the old drivers and the same happens. I just cannot install any drivers. Prior to install I checked device manager and the GPU does not show up in there. Everything worked fine before I uninstalled the working driver (16.32) and tried upgrading to the new one. Then I formatted my ssd and installed windows 10 x64. Now the drivers installed on that and I could even play games, but it was unacceptably unstable. Every 20-60mins I would get blue screens and reboots again and again even just for being idle on desktop. Also, apps would crash more than often whether firefox or a video game, or VLC. I updated my bios too, but I still get the same problem. I cleaned the RAM sticks, GPU and still no good. My whole pc is fucked thanks to my wish to upgrade to new drivers which is a universal thing to do. My parts are as follows: Transcend 64gb ssd boot drive 1tb WDC black drive FX8320 HD7950GPU Mobo- Gigabyte GA970A-DS3P Corsair vengeance 16gb 4x4

Hi LTT forums. so over the past few years ive had my trusty HD7950 and all has been good until recently, in the last year or so ive been getting into overclocking it and increasing the overclock every now and then just to test the limits. today i encountered a very odd issue. At first my Graphics card was stuck at 500mhz (i previously had it at 1.1ghz) and would not change; however reinstalling afterburner and restarting my pc fixed it. then about 5 or 10 minutes later, after reapplying my overclock, i started to get artifacts on the desktop. I tried lower overclocks but it seems anything over stock causes the artifacts. so i overclocked as normal and tried to play a game (PUBG) and i got no artifacts whatsoever in the game. when i have my gpu on stock speeds and voltages, there are no artifacts on the desktop at all. I've tried switching monitors to my old monitor i had before replacing it with my current one and there was no artifacts in windows on that monitor. so im really confused as to what the problem is could it be the overclock or possibly just the dual monitor setup? or is my 7950 finally dying? any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Hey guys im new around here and i recently got a new budget pc thats lacking a gpu for gaming, i have a friend that is offering me a Sapphire Vapor-X HD7950 for less than 100usd ( converted from my countries currency) which is pretty much a very cheap and an offer that i could afford just nicely since my budget is around that atm. wiht that being said it is still worth to pick up,its practically still new as my friend told me he never used it as its his backup graphics card. I did compatibility and bottleneck testings and the results were just fine. My preferred gaming is 1920x1080p and 60ghz fps.Tq for reading and hope i can have some help. tqvm

hi everyone, i have a windforce hd 7950 v2 (the one with the vrm backplate). i can run it at full overclock and will only hit 72ish C. https://www.3dmark.com/fs/16582319 (these are my firestrike results) my problem is that at 1190mhz i start to get artifacts, this is caused by my vCore being to low. are there ways to raise the vCore above 1.25? Hi everyone, Today I repasted my gigabyte windforce hd 7950 v2. Before I saw temps of 73c with a fixed 55% fan under synthetic load. This of course is pretty good. I still have contact with the previous owner and he told me he never repasted it. So I thought it was a fun project. I don't have the best thermal paste (halnziye h510) but the paste that was on there was completely dried out. After rebooting and running the same synthetic test under the same conditions I was greeted with an unpleasant surprised, the temps increased by 20c! Now it was running at 92c which is insane. Did I do something wrong, if so what and how can I improve the temperatures. Jan

I have this 5yr old Sapphire HD7950 boost. I recently ran with overclock for about a few short weeks at gpu:mhz1050 and the memory at mhz1350. I did not do anything to the voltages as some great guide online stated its stable at those clocks on stock voltage. Since the overclock I would get random pc freezes, so I stopped doing it for a while. Then I started again, errthing semed fine. Now all of a sudden while playing siege not overclocked I think the display went black, no signal on my LG ultrawide. However I could still hear my teammates communicate for a few minutes. Then I started getting robotic voices...so I guess something went really bad. I turned it off and booted up again and now I dont get display. On once instance I logged in with no display, and tried to open windows media player, I could not play music since I cant see what I was doing, but I did something wrong and I heard the windows chime with a keystrok, I tried again and I heard the chime. So windows is surely still running. Means my pc is booting, so cpu fine, ram fine, psu fine..?, mobo fine...but the gpu fan spins extremely slow. So afterburner fan profile is not working. Such a tough time to have it break...an upgrade wont be available till July or so.

Hi all I love building PC's of all shapes and sizes but as we know it is so expensive at the moment; so for entertainment I decided to dig out some old components. HD 7950 sapphire 2Gb 8Gb DDR3 SSD/HDD available AMD A4-4000 A55 micro ATX motherboard I thought it would be fun to build a HTPC for the front room but the processor is not up for the task. My question is, what processor could I get for the motherboard that would run 720p games on my TV or would I need to change more components. Thanks

Hi everyone, I have a gigabyte HD 7950 windforce v2. I have one with the "beautiful" blue pcb, this of course looks disgusting in my orange and black pc. I found a site that has gpu backplates for the r9 280 gigabyte windforce. Will these fit? https://www.v1tech.com/shop/backplates/gigabyted1backplate/ (the site) Jan

Recently I have been reading articles on overclocking an AMD HD7950 and I have noticed that most other HD7950's manage to get lower idle temps then mine which are usually at 52C.As a result i have cleaned as much of my GPU without opening it and i managed to get the same temps.Could this problem be due the necessity to replace the thermal paste or some thing stuck between the heat sink? I want to be able to keep this Graphics card running for another year or two. GPU-Z Link:https://www.techpowerup.com/gpudb/b2210/msi-hd-7950-boost-oc

Hi all,Recently my card (xfx doulble diss hd 7950) started showing horizontal red lines, which all together created vertical pillars all over my screen. I thought it was a bios issue so I flashed another bios via ATIWinflash. (Load program, xfx double d 7950 bios from techpower, and programmed it). After that the card had trouble installing drivers + still red lines.I decided to bake it. Yes, bake it.It worked! Atleast, for some point. The red lines are gone! (So my initial problem was solved! Now I have to fix my own caused problem).Without drivers the card boots as primary graphic adapter without problem. Any time I am trying to install the drivers some form of error comes up. It never installs te drivers saying "can't find hardwareid"if I try to force installing a driver through device manager it says: found driver, some problem caused it to not being installed.I tried various bioses, didn't back up my original one (fck me right).Once I got the error "system thread exception bla bla atikmdag.sys" BSOD.I tried completely uninstalling all drivers, didn't work. Does anyone know what to do? Thanks!

Hello there. I am looking for an AIO liquid cooler and mount for this Sapphire HD7950 Boost that I have. It is the exact same one that is found on this website in the images : http://goo.gl/f1zc9B Also, I want to know how do you cool the VRAM, cuz the water pump will only cover the main chip... P.S. I am a noob who follows instructions from the internet.

Hi, just wondering if there are any problems with this build, I'm pretty sure everything should work but I'd obviously like any obvious things pointed out so I don't mess up. Specs: GPU: Gigabyte Radeon HD 7950 CPU: FX-8120 RAM: 4x4GB Corsair Vengeance, 1600MHz, CL9 Motherboard: Asus M5a97 EVO R2.0 PSU: Corsair CX750M Case: Cooler Master Mid Tower CPU Cooler: Arctic Freezer Xtreme I'm swapping out my old mobo because it has been causing overheating and throttling because of having the wrong phase power. Everything else is compatible in my old build but, again, I'd like to be sure. Thanks.

While looking for a graphics card for the pc i'm planning to build i found out that the SAPPHIRE HD 7950 3GB with Boost and SAPPHIRE DUAL-X R9 270X 2GB OC where around the same price (i live in the netherlands). unfortunatly i couldn't find any good benchmarks so i was wondering which card was better. I will be using this card for gaming (bf4 maybe watch dogs, not sure yet) and maybe some rendering. I would be happy someone could help me out.

So, I've currently got a HD 7950, and found this GTX 680 on eBay: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/261447820534?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 If I can get it for below £150, is it worth it if I sell my HD 7950 for more, which I can due to the GPU mining hype at the moment. They still go for about £170+ EDIT: this is just so I can make a little profit.

I plan to build a gaming PC which would play the games at very high settings with anti-aliasing at 1080p resolution on 22-24" monitors for the next 3-4 years. So it should run the ports of the games on PS4 and XBOX One along with AAA PC games. I am new to overclocking but plan to do it to a moderate extent some time down the line. Extent of overclocking may be limited to as supported by Cooler Master Hyper 212 air cooler. 1. Budget & Location Within $1000 or 68000 Indian Rupees. Conversion - 1 USD = 60 INR. I live in India. Products would be purchased from either of the following vendors - mdcomputers.in or flipkart.com. 2. Aim Gaming (Far Cry 3 or Crysis 2 and better) Photo editing 3. Monitors Single monitor. 1080p resolution. 22-24". No multi-monitor setup. 4. Peripherals No. Just the Processor, Motherboard, RAM, GPU, PSU, DVD RW, Cabinet, HDD. 5. Why are you upgrading? Newer games like Far Cry 3 do not run on my 6 years old C2D E6550/8800 GTS system. I did some research online and have short-listed few components and had some queries. No part has been purchased, I am open to all suggestions. 1. Processor - FX 8350 or Core i5 3570K? Considering i5 3570K is better for current games but with multi-cored consoles, it may change next year. 2. Motherboard - Asrock Z77 Exteme 4 for 3570k. ASRock 990FX Extreme4 for FX 8350? 3. RAM - Corsair Vengeance 1 x 8 GB DDR3 1600. (Will get another 1 x 8 GB after a couple of months.) 4. GPU - Sapphire HD7950 3GB Vapor-X or Zotac GTX 760 2 GB Amp Edition? Preferring 7950 for 3GB VRAM and 384-bit interface. 5. PSU - Corsair TX650 V2 6. DVD RW - Asus 24x DVD RW 7. Cabinet - Corsair 300R or Cooler Master HAF 912 Combat? Looks not important for me, performance is. Short-listed 300R as I found it cheapest among those supporting long GPUs like 7950. Should the PSU placed with fan towards the bottom to suck air from outside or to exhaust it to outside? 8. HDD - 1 TB Seagate 7200 rpm. (Will get SSD after 2 months, This one will be used for storage) Future Plan - After a couple of months (Not to be included in the budget) 1. Corsair Vengeance 1 x 8 GB DDR3 1600 2. SSD - Need help 3. CPU Cooler - Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus or Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo? 4. A couple of 120 mm Cabinet Fans. Need help with ideal placement for best air-flow. Please factor in the following - 1. Single monitor and at resolution around 1080p. If any of my picks are overkill, please suggest lower priced alternatives. 2. Upcoming AMD based 8-cored, 8 GB APUs in consoles 3. Planning for moderate overclocking later. No water cooling. Thanks.

Hello all, I've posted on these forums before and you guys have been very helpful so thanks for that. I have a friend that has a HD7950 Mac Edition and he wants to trade it with my aging GTX560Ti Direct CU II because he has one of these already and he wants to do an SLI. I have obviously said yes since that's a free upgrade but here's the catch from what I've read I should be able to crossflash a MAC 7950 to a "normal" 7950, the only difference between the cards, from what I've read on some forums is that the mac edition doesn't have that dual bios switch on the top of the card that the "normal" 7950s have and obviously the BIOS. I've seen people flashing mac bioses to GTX680s and 7950s so this basically should work without a problem in my mind. Has anyone here on the forums did this before? Flash a MAC "only" card with a retail bios? I told my friend to flash it himself and tell me the results but he isn't really into computers so much and he's afraid of breaking it. He installed the card in his computer but nothing shows up on the screen maybe because the motherboard does not know how to identify the card properly since it has the mac bios on it. He told me that he's sending the card over next week so I can fiddle with it. Flashing should be straight forward since I'll be using my 560Ti as my primary card while plugging this bad boy in the second PCIex slot from my Maximus V Gene. So what do you guys think? Is it worth a shot? Will this work? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi guys, i'm gonna buy a hd 7950 for my new pc, i was looking for a quiet card, i hear that the xfx is really louder when you are over the 50%, and i can't find a Asus DirectCU ii edition anywhere, so, what you recommend me? Thanks for the help.

I was wondering would it be better to get an ASUS HD7950 becuase I have an asus CrossHair motherboard since I know they have their special power convert thing with asus parts but the Gigabyte is faster and cheaper. Also I am running a dual monitor set up. I REALLY dont want to have to buy adapters for the mini display ports for my DVI but the card is cheaper and a little faster. ASUS HD7950: http://goo.gl/SRB1qy 3GB 384-bit 800MHz Clock 2 DVI 1 HDMI about $300 Gigabyte HD7950: http://goo.gl/VZBYxO 3GB 384-bits 900MHz 1 DVI 1 HDMI 2 Mini dsplayports about $230

So I have been wondering this for a while now... Looking at the frame rate I'm getting in games disappoints me thinking that my 7950 is not running at it's full efficiency. Yes, I did Google allot about this particular matter without any clear result. I'm even thinking about the bottleneck being in the most impossible parts. Well.. let me show you my setup to give u an idea of what I have. AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition Asrock 870 Extreme3 Sapphire Radeon HD 7950 3GB Samsung Spinpoint F1 HD161GJ, 160GB (x2) Samsung Spinpoint F3 HD103SJ, 1TB Crucial m4 CT128M4SSD2 128GB be quiet! Pure Power L7 530W G.Skill Ripjaws X F3-12800CL9D-8GBXL Do u guys recommend me to run any programs to determinate the problem? I do have a HD7770 laying around here as well if needed. Thanks in advance. Edit; I was not quite sure where I had to put this topic, so excuse me if I did it wrong.

So I have two HD7950s (XFX R7950) in crossfire, and whenever I'm playing a game my computer will reboot, and there will be a screen saying it was caused by a power surge (ASUS anti-surge protection). So I've had my PSU stress-tested by the retailer I purchased it from, and it's working correctly. This problem only occurs when using two cards, if I use only one it's fine. And this has started randomly about 3 weeks ago when I had my PC for a couple of months. So what could be the cause of this? I've tried disabling the anti-surge protection but it won't help. And I'm planning on running memtest. Specs: CPU: Intel i7-4770k Motherboard: Asus sabertooth Z87 Graphics Cards: XFX R7950s RAM: Corsair Vengeance 16GB @ 1600Mhz OS windows 7 ultimate 64-bit BIOS: latest version (Version 1707) Edit: PSU: AX760 And none of my components are overclocked
-
So I'm wondering if my AX760 can power my 2 HD7950s and a 4770k. I'm guessing it can but I wanna be sure seeing as my PC randomly shuts down whilst gaming, this is caused by a power surge from my PSU according to my Asus motherboard. And I'm trying to find out what's the cause for it. Thanks in advance.
-
So my PC started randomly turning off and on again last night (This has only happened while playing BF4) , and it said some ASUS software did it to protect my PC from a PSU power surge. So I posted here asking what the issue was, and I was told to just disable this ASUS software (in the BIOS). But it's still randomly turning off and on again, only now I don't get the screen that says it was done to protect my PC, i just get to the "windows was not closed correctly' screen. Now I'm wondering what the issue is here, could it be that my PSU (AX760) can't supply enough power to my two graphics cards (HD7950s), or do I have a bad PSU and should I return it? I'm quite worried because I've heard a bad PSU can damage your system quite bad. So what is your guys input? Any help will be much appreciated.
