Hi All, I upgraded my B460m DS3H mobo BIOS from version F3 to F5. When I did so my PC would not boot after the BIOS update initialized. It was frozen on the Gigabyte Boot screen. I figured my boot order was messed up so I unplugged my hard drive (2.5 inch Firecuda 2TB SSHD "ST2000LX001"). My PC then booted properly on my SSD and the BIOS updated. Now the issue is that my PC cannot recognize my hard drive. If I try starting the PC while the hard drive is plugged in it will stay frozen on the Gigabyte Boot screen like before. If I load into my bios and then plug the drive via SATA it will not be detected. If I load into Windows and then plug the drive in via SATA it will still not be detected. If I try to access the BIOS straight from Windows while the hard drive is plugged in it freezes in a similar manner again. I have plugged the hard drive into an external case and have plugged it into my PC and my laptop via USB. They both see it as Disk 1 but it's messed up. It says "Disk 1, Unknown, Not Initialized" and the partition space is blank, nothing is there. I.e. it doesn't say "unallocated" I don't know what to do at this point. I think my drive is dead and I screwed myself by updating the BIOS. Can anyone tell me any troubleshooting options I can try? I have looked around the internet and nothing is working. Thanks for any help in advance.

Hi, I have the following problem: We have an old (almost ancient) PC in the company that has been running the same software for about 20 years. The software is indispensable for us and there are no versions for newer operating systems. The PC is now getting slower and slower and with every day we have the risk that the hard disk dies and with it the software is lost. The original installation file is on a floppy disk, but we have no idea if it is still readable and would have to buy a floppy reader first. My task now is to get the whole thing running safely with as little money as possible. It is about a logistic software, with which we calculate costs for framing paintings. We really need to be able to print from this software. With DOSBox, the program runs on Windows 10, but we can not print. A few IT people before me have already tried to start the whole thing via DOSprint, but that doesn't work either (according to them). The next problem: We don't have a test PC, so I have to develop a working system first so we can buy the things we need. I thought of the following: Either I build a cheap Win10 machine and try it with DOSBox and DOSprint, or I try to get the right hardware for an XP machine from somewhere, then clone the hard disk from the old PC and then put it into the new XP PC. Does this sound feasible? What would you guys recommend? Thanks

So I recently installed the Seagate Barracuda 2tb into my PC and I am trying to download Rainbow 6 Siege on steam. But when I start the download it peaks at about 90mbps. Then will drop off gradually hitting 0 Mbps and then will climb back up to 10-20 before going back to zero. And when I pause it and resume the same cycle repeats. I also have a nvme which does a consistent 100mbps when I download games on battle.net (haven't really used it on steam). Does anyone know a solution?

Hey all, It's no secret that modern AAA Xbox games are huge [insert COD jokes here]. Pair that with consoles having 1-2TB of storage, or just 360GB on the Xbox Series S, the storage really fills up quick. Is it possible to combat this by connecting an Xbox One / Series console to a form of mass storage? This question sounds pretty dumb and all, but whether or not this is possible really interests me. -Nicole

I had two Seagate Barracuda 1 TB drives in my pc, set up in raid 1 via the Windows' disk management. Now they are full and I replaced them with two new ones, but I still need to access the old data so I decided to put one of them in an external USB cage. My problem is that windows detects the usb drive (it makes the sound when I plug it in) but I don't see the drive in 'This PC'. Is it a formatting/file system and issue?

So I am about to order a hard drive. I want to know what I will need to mount it. I have looked in my pc case and it looks like there are no screw holes and the hard drives sit of a little bed with clips on the side to hold it in place. Does this mean that I have to buy clips to go on the hard drive to install it?

So I just bought Metro Exodus for my PC today. The games by itself is about 60GB, which is way too big for my almost full 500GB SSD. My hard drive has 1TB of storage, but it's 5400RPM. Will Metro run fine on such a slow hard drive, or will the games studder horribly?

So the things happened yesterday, when i was chilling on my laptop, and after a few seconds, accidentally i pushed my cup filled with juice. The juice started to get over my laptop, and i started to clean it up without turning off the laptop, everything was fine, i cleaned it up, everything was working completely fine, but the things started to happen 3 hours later. I heard strange noise from the laptop i think the hard drive i will explain later why i think its the hard drive, so i heard that noise, i thought its not from the laptop prob from tv or smth cuz my tv is left next to my laptop and its easy to make a confusion, but after 3 or less minutes, my tabs on Chrome stopped working, i thought my internet died but when i checked my phone, everything was fine, and after that, i unplugged my lan cable plugged it again, nothing, i go to my desktop, moving the mouse, untill the mouse stopped working and it showed the blue screen of death, i waited it a couple of minutes, 0 percents, then the laptop restarted black screen with the white line on the top left and like that whole 10 minutes, after that, the boot menu showed up, and the only way i can boot is from the dvd writer, i think its from the hard drive cuz, there was juice on the bottom too, and somehow the juice did go to the hard drive and yea the things happened, but its strange why it took so long to break. I think its not the motherboard, because if it was the motherboard, i think i will get more problems like no screen or smth like that, but it was fine, the only thing that can be is the hard drive, because, the boot menu showed ip which can be only one reason, the laptop cant detect the hard drive. Is there any chances of fixing?

Hello everyone i got a really interesting question and i hope someone helps regarding this so i have an hp dc7800p PC with an LGA 775 Q35 chipset on it but im having some motherboard issues and cannot post the good news is that probably my RAM/CPU/GPU are all working but the most important part for me is the hard drive it is working and in okay condition last time i used my PC but i need all the data + OS on it so the real question here is can i put everything all back together with the same case on a new motherboard with the identical old one ( ig LGA 775 ) then boot into my old drive with everything saved? I wouldn’t mind 10% of issues but i need at least 90% of the windows 10 to operate properly do not tell me to copy data over and install a fresh windows as that’s completely useless and not the point of what I’m trying to ask/do side note: it also has a patched theme and many programs installed i need it all regardless someone help and let me know as soon as possible as I’m considering this as a best solution for a faulty motherboard also this only happened recently due to a long story that i don’t need to bring up also my power supply is in working condition at 325w max thanks!

Heya everybody, hope you're all having a good day! I recently took apart my old Razer Blade 15 (Base Model) laptop, and I salvaged a few parts from it to put in my PC, including the hard drive. It's a Seagate BarraCuda 2TB model. However, when I was taking it out the laptop I think that I might've accidentally lost a part or two that was connected to the hard drive, but I have no clue what it's called. If anyone has any knowledge about this stuff, please tell me! There are two images down below of the hard drive, the one of the backside is showing where the missing part (if there even is one) should be.

I've bought an HDD power switch from Amazon that has buttons to turn off power to individual HDDs because I'm tired of hearing my 3 secondary HDDs spin up for no reason when not in use. My question is, is there anything I need to do before powering off an HDD while my PC is running? For example to disable the HDD in device manager or something like that. Thanks! Here's the power switch for reference: https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B08CF493QF/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apan_glt_i_D3YZ94V8N80PZE26E4SX

So i bought a new rig around last wig (Processor , motherboard and ssd) and my ssd is a kingston Sata (not nvme or m2) 240GB SSD. Last week and the days after were just 100% health and totally fine. Now crystal disk info (All versions) and hard disk sentinel says that my SSD health is around 99% ?! in a week!! should i be concerned ? given that i don't install things that much nor do i use my SSD for anything just for boot up and stuff. Any thoughts? I also must say that i turned my pc on and off quite a lot in that week since i don't normally leave it on can that have caused it ? Tho all programs say that no issues were found at all whatsoever..Sooo what's up?

So I'm trying to clean my wife's ssd to a bigger drive since she is running out of space, so I decided to go with Macrium Reflect Free Version. I used it before on my computer to be able do the same thing only it was a m.2 I was upgrading too. So I do the same procedure as I did before but for some reason, I keep getting a start up error that Windows 10 produces and idk why I'm getting it. I'll go through the steps I take below. 1. I installed the program, and I attached my new ssd to my machine of course. The 1st is the main drive (old ssd). The 2nd is my HDD with games installed on it only, and the 3rd is the new SSD. 2. I click on clone this disk, to get a new window 3. I then drag both partitions down to the new ssd. The 1st then the 2nd. I then selected 2 and clicked float right then selected 1 and clicked on fill space, so that I gain the extra room on the ssd. 4. I then select next then finish and let the cloning process start which will take a while. Then I checked my hard drive and it's completely cloned over to the new drive. So this is the part where it gets complicated. I turned my computer, and then to check if it boots up, I selected the new drive (kingston) and it looks like it booted up just fine. So I decided to detach the old drive, and see if it'll boot up. I even went to the bios to see if it would boot up from that drive first. The weird thing is that I had "Boot up from UEFI" or Kingston, which I found strange. So I boot it up and it gives me a start up error. I'm baffled by this and would like some help trying to solve it. I included images to help as well including the system specs.

Hey LTT, i badly need help because my PC on which most of my work is, has started malfunctioning since earlier today ( 22nd Feb 2022, what a horrible day ! ) Now before we move on to anything else, i just wanted to tell that i had regularly backed up my windows on a portable HDD ( which i can still browse on another laptop ) but when i try to boot from it, it give a blue screen with Inaccessible Boot Device stop code and as a result i cannot boot from my backup , which makes for a very precarious situation as i risk losing a great deal of work if the PC is not recovered ! It was literally my last chance to boot seamlessly but it seems that windows is behaving rather strangely .. So when i started my PC today, i saw that it was taking awfully long to boot ( it usually booted in a minute ) and then i saw that there was a black screen and the white dots were spinning for a long time but there was no progress I am really anxious as to what to do and i 100 % need my PC to work at all costs so, i just need to know what are my chances of getting back my system without losing data ( i am really traumatized since i had kept backups which are useless now ). i tried looking through the many guides of resolving this error but to no avail. LTT is quite literally my last and final hope before i am forced to nuke my system with a fresh re-install, which will be very painful since there was a lot of stuff installed and i had hoped to keep my data intact.. Any help anyone can provide, i will be really grateful to them ! PC Specs : Ryzen 1500x RX 580 8 GB sapphire nitro 12 GB ram 1 tb WD green HDD Corsair TX 550 M Gold PSU i am not going to sleep particularly well today, but i do hope a resolution can be found .. EDIT : i tried booting to safe mode ( all 3 variants of safe mode ) but it does not work . It simply stays stuck on a black screen and NEVER boots ! EDIT 2 : I can clearly SEE MY MOUSE CURSOR on the black screen, but ctrl+alt+del does not work and neither do any other shortcuts ! EDIT 3 : This is very, very strange but i had another hard drive with a REALLY OLD backup - months ago probably. It's giving the EXACT same black screen problem ! I don't know what to do, can anyone help me ?

As the title states one of my 4TB drives only registers 2TB and I have no clue why. I have already tried to reformat it and change it from MBR to GPT but none of these things seems to solve the problem. I'll post a picture of the drive label and the information on the drive given to my by Seatools, the same information and results were given by CrystalDiskInfo. Any help finding out what is going wrong here is greatly appreciated.

Weird problem. New PC, Windows 11, everything is fine except it doesn't see the secondary hard drive installed. BIOS sees it but I can't get Windows to find it. The only HDD related problem that I can see is there's an issue with a RAID Controller driver that doesn't want to update. I've gone through Disk Manager, cmd prompt, and Device Manager without any luck. I've also switched SATA ports. All other drivers are up to date and working fine with the exception of the RAID Controller in Device Manager. See screens for specs. Any help is appreciated!

Hi all! I have a pretty old Western Digital 2TB HDD (WD20EARX). I bought it in 2011, so it's now 11 years old. Hard Disk Sentinel shows its health is somehow still at 100%, despite it being used so much, for so long. For comparison, my main system SSD, which has a power on time of 16x less than the HDD, already has health of 86%. Screenshot here. Can the 100% health reading for the old HDD really be trusted? This thing is well into the age category of "generally the time HDDs fail". Should I just go ahead and ignore the reading and replace the thing before I lose data? I don't wanna get a replacement unnecessarily. Thanks in advance for any advice provided. :)

I'm trying to wipe a hard drive to put into a server pc. This drive was previously used to run windows and now it has an error executing the sign in process 100% of the time (I don't remember the error, but it wasn't a blue screen) Is it safe to put it into my current PC, via SATA cable, and wipe it even though it has a boot partition on it?

I plan to clone one of my older drives (WD 1TB, lets call it "Drive E") into a larger drive (Seagate 2TB "Drive G"). Drive E does not have the OS on it since Win10 is already on an SSD ("Drive C"). Drive E contains some important programs on it, like Discord, printer software, iCue, Mountain Everest keyboard settings, etc. I plan to keep Drive D after cloning as backup. #1 - Even though there is no OS on Drive E, can I still clone Drive E into Drive G, rename G as the 'new' E, and have my PC operate as normal once cloning is complete? #2 - Just in case #1 isnt an ideal solution, can I clone E into G then swap the SATA cables that Drive E is currently connected to, so that when I reboot into the bios, the pc thinks that drive G is drive E? Or it doesnt matter as long as I tell the PC "This is now 'Drive E' so pull the programs you need from here" ?

I bought a new laptop, MSI GF63 Thin 10UC. I had added 2 TB SATA HDD afterwards. First everything was running smoothly, but later the drive stopped showing up in "This pc" and even in the diskpart, but it's detected in the BIOS menu.

I’m looking to upgrade from 1 to 2 TB of internal drive space on my PS4 Slim. Without considering extracting it from the enclosure (not a problem done it plenty before), what would I be giving up in terms of quality by buying a far cheaper Toshiba external HDD and using that instead of buying a drive specifically marketed as an internal laptop drive? The prices are $70 vs $120 AUD for Toshiba and seagate respectively so I’m set on making the right decision for my PS4/ wallet’s sake. If there are enough problems with doing the Toshiba harvest method I will happily pay the premium.
