I just bought a new hard drive and M.2 if i plug in my new hard drive the pc stays in the motherboard logo for so long if it does get thru loading times take forever to get into windows and when i do the hard drive is not detected or appears and disappears. i suspected it was a faulty hard drive so i returned it and they did a mandatory check and it was working just fine for them. i tried it on my sisters pc it works just fine as well. What could be the problem? (the m.2 i bought along with it works just fine)

First time here in this forum. I have a total of 3 external USB hard disks (2-4 TB each) lying around. I don't use them often because most of my and my family's media consumption is done online and on their phones and such... Instead of just stashing the HDDs in a drawer somewhere, I figured setting up a home NAS with them would be a good idea. I already have a gigabit switch with ethernet wired to all the rooms in the house and wifi too. Devices that need to access it are 2 laptops, 1 gaming PC/HT-PC in living room, multiple phones and tablets. So I've been researching and found this refurbished mini-PC (amazon link) (4th gen i5, 8gb ram, 256gb SSD, gigabit ethernet, 3 usb-2 ports and 2 usb-3 ports) and I'm planning to buy it. It's got enough usb ports and gigabit ethernet which should be okay for my use case. I've already got an old cheap monitor and keyboard-mouse. I've got a UPS backup for my entire house and plan to leave it on 24/7. I also would prefer not to keep them connected to the living room PC as I don't always keep it on. I think I can trust the mini-PC. It has good reviews and all the important data on my drives are backed up to multiple cloud storage services and I absolutely do follow good data backup practices. I just don't want these drives to just gather dust in the drawer. So my question is - Is this a feasible idea? Is there anything really obvious I'm missing with this setup. Any problems that I need to be aware of when using external drives? Any input or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks... Budget (including currency): Upto 200 USD in local currency - 15000 INR. I would prefer to manage with above suggested/already available hardware. Country: India Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Home network attached storage for non-critical files. Non-critical data backups.

Hey guys! I have a wd green 3tb hard drive with data and photos on it. It was previously a wd my cloud back up device but I took the harddrive out of that wd my cloud. When connecting the hard drive to my PC it says I need a password and of course I don't know it as this drive is very old. Is there some software I can use to unlock the drive and get the data or a place I can send it to? Thank You

It is a Seagate BUP Slim 2 TB Drive that I would like to run a bridge bot and a Minecraft Server on along with system backups on it. It is still under warranty should I get it replaced? Basically asking that will they replace it or will they say that the drive is still fine and this is normal for a drive and charge me for getting the drive shipped back?

Hello there! I do have a broken 1.5 TB hard drive. S.M.A.R.T. tests C5 and C6 are at 198/199. R/W speeds are basically non existent. It was enrypted by bitlocker and Windows currently tries to decrpyt it but doesn't move on. I wanted to save the data from this drive but (i guess) due to bitlocker using all the capacity left on this drive i can't. Does anybody have an idea how to get to the data? I thought about mirroring the drive sector by sector but unfortunally I do not have a drive big enought for the whole partition allthough only about 700 gb of Data is used. But with bitlocker activated i cant just shrink the partition. Thanks!

Hello, I recently upgraded my Lenovo Y50-70 Laptop's old HDD to an SSD. The Old HDD I'm using as an external hard drive and using a SATA power+Data cable combo (USB 2.0). It looks exactly like the one in the image. I have also attached a picture of my HDD. The Issue I'm having is that when I connect this to a Windows 11 PC it makes a constant, lightly auditable clicking noise. This only happens on the Windows PC, as I've successfully connected the drive using the same cable to a Mac desktop and the Lenovo laptop which it came from, which now has an SSD and a fresh install of Windows 10 as well as another laptop running Windows 10. All 3 devices and read/write and format this drive but the PC cannot even read it. Furthermore, I've used the same cable to connect another 2.5 HDD that came from a Seagate external hard and it can read/write fine on the PC. Does anyone know what the issue might be?

My seagate st2000dm001 in an external enclosure reports it's (BE) Airflow temperature as failed in HDTUNE PRO. Current: 54 Worst: 44 Threshold: 45. HDsentinel does not see that attribute's value as problematic. The drive has 70 Power-on-hours and power on count is 107 times. Is it safe to continue storing backup of data on that drive?

yesterday i accidentally deleted ( yesterday i tired things for about an hour or 2 then it got kinda late so i powered off the system and left as it was) about 250gb of files from my nas before (when i built my nas i didnt have the money for 2 drives so i just got one with the intension to get a second one later later) . so i thought it will be easier to work on the nas itself on a linux mint live cd then to do it from my pc . but i dont know how do i import my pool, the only commend that helped is “zpool import -f” and that showed what i know all ready is that i have 2 drives connected one of them is my nas's boot pool and the other is my main pool. i dont know what to do from here im very not familiar with zfs (truenas is my fist time using zfs) so im kinda stuck. any help would be appreciated

Hello. Excuse me, but I need some help with my expansion drive problem, I need the data inside it since there are so many private and important stuff in it. So, previously I pulled out my expansion drive while it still reading some data because I'm in a hurry to get out of the house. When coming back and checking on the drive, it won't show up on My Computer even though it's connected, there is a usb connected sound. I checked the Disk Management menu, and Picture 1 is how it looks. I tried to look for the solution online, and some local forum suggest to Rebuild the MBR so it won't erased the data while fixing the problem. The forum tell me to use the Minitool partition wizard, which I did, shown in the Picture 2, but the every option for the drive is greyed out. Please help me, I need the data inside the drive but I'm also too broke to afford data recovery service which very pricey in my country. Thank you in advance for the answers.

I've noticed that when I plug in my Western Digital USB Hard Drive, it will say that there is a driver error when I go to the "Bluetooth and other devices settings" section in Windows. Before this, qBittorrent was giving me an "I/O device error" on the torrent I was trying to seed from that drive and when I would unplug it and plug it back in, Windows would tell me that there was a problem with the drive and that I should scan the drive to fix it. Scanning the drive did find errors, but even after I had Windows scan the drive, I kept getting that notification. Eventually, I got a BSOD with the stop code usbstor.sys. After I got that BSOD and the system restarted, I no longer got that notification, but I then started getting the driver error and slow transfer speeds that I mentioned before. I tried using a different cable and plugging the drive into different ports, but neither of these seemed to fix the issue. When I tried plugging the drive into another PC, instead of seeing a driver error, I got a message that said that the driver was unavailable. CrystalDiskInfo said the drive was good. When I ran CrystalDiskMark on the drive, I got 110MB/s reads and 77 and 107MB/s writes. Operating System - Windows 10 Pro 64 Bit (Windows 11 installed from the factory) (Full retail version) Age of system - 1 year OS Installation Age - 2 Months CPU - Ryzen 7 6800H GPU - Radeon RX 6650M System Manufacturer - HP (Omen) Model Number - Omen by HP Gaming Laptop 16-n0033dx I have attached a zip file containing my CrystalDiskMark and CrystalDiskInfo results as well as a .dmp file from when the BSOD happened and an HTML file that I got from going to the Windows Performance Monitor and waiting 60 seconds. I would've done it by running perfmon /report from the command line, but every time that I've tried that, it gets stuck on "Collecting data for 60 seconds" every time I try to do that. So today I encountered a problem with my PC, I decided to turn it on and I noticed that one of my drives were missing. I checked File Explorer, Disk Management, Device Manager, I don't see my drive at all. Weirdly enough, when I try to look at my BIOS, I see the drive is there and detected. Same as Intel Rapid Storage Technology app, it detected the drive. It's an old Seagate 500GB drive with quite a lot of important stuff and I haven't backed it up in a while. I've tried swapping SATA cables & ports and it's still not detected by Windows. The other 2 drives that I got are perfectly fine so I'm not sure what's wrong. Yesterday was fine too, I was able to use my PC normally and I didn't hear anything bad coming from the drive. It did make a few clicks when I boot it up so maybe it's dying? Anyone can help figuring this out? Thanks!

https://imgur.com/a/mvaiPfK I've had this 5TB WD Easystore for a year now, and it's been working pretty well up until now. I was copying mkv files between this drive and another external drive when File Explorer began crashing, and this problem persisted even after I restarted it. I plugged both drives into a different computer and checked CrystalDiskInfo to see if there's anything wrong with either drives, and found this. Is this issue repairable? If not, should I try to RMA it for a replacement from Best Buy?

Hello everyone, I have a 4 TB hard drive that is full of stuff ranging from important documents for work to Google Takeout files to photos I took on an iPod Touch 14 years ago. Up to this point, I have basically shoved everything into the drive into random folders and I think it's time I started organizing everything. Before I spend several weeks going through everything, does anyone have any software suggestions for assisting in this? I know I'll have to go through a lot of it myself, but if there is software that can help cut down the time on this, I'd like to check it out. Basically is there software that will help with the following: Deleting duplicate files Deleting certain types of files (ex. .exe, .aac, or any other obscure file format that I don't plan on using Sorting certain types of files and putting them in folders (ex. JPEGs into a "Pictures" folder, .docs into a "Documents" folder, videos in a "Videos" folder, ect.) Software for organizing photos and videos and putting them in folders I don't mind if it's free or paid software as long as it works. And if you have tips on how to get started on organizing files (and maintaining them), I'd really appreciate it. Thanks. Have a good one!

nas What are the best NAS drives at the moment?
Pyroven posted a topic in Servers, NAS, and Home Lab
Or rather, what are at least good? I've been unable to find a simple answer to this question by googling, I only know that WD Reds have had a few fiascoes recently and I want to avoid them. If I'm looking for a NAS drive, are there any other brands/products lines to avoid? Are Seagate Exos or Ironwolfs good? Anything to beware to avoid in those lineups?- 10 replies

I have this weird issue going on with my Samsung 980 Pro Nvme drive. During the middle of a Diablo IV session, the power went out in my house. Once everything came back online, I loaded up my computer and everything seemed normal until I went to try and log into Battlenet and Steam. Battlenet would not launch Diablo IV and wanted me to update the game, but an error code would come up every time I would hit the update button. On Steams side I had the same issue. I have all my game clients and their respective games installed on the 980 Pro, while Windows and the rest of the things I use are installed on different drives. I tried manually going into my Battlenet folders to try and manually delete the game to try and reinstall it but it wouldn't let me delete the files nor add new folders on the drive. I thought that was super strange, so I opened up disk management to see if I could just reformat my drive, but none of the normal options were selectable. I noticed on Disk Management the drive showed up as "Read Only." Aka Disk 4 on the image below. I decided to google how to change a "Read Only" drive to a writeable drive and came across a guide that uses Windows Diskpart from the command prompt. I followed the guide along but it did not change any of my disk's attributes. As you can see I selected the disk and tried using the commands to clear the "Read Only" state to no avail. I'm wondering if anyone else has any ideas on what I can do to try and fix the drive. The rest of my computer is working normally and non of my other drives have this issue. Nothing else seems out of the ordinary as well. Any help is appreciated, and let me know if I can provide any additional info, Thanks.

Hello, today during work my laptop BSODed and when it recovered my C drive is throwing me this error message (attached picture). no idea what's going on, check disk management and it seems fine, accessed files on it via documents folder just fine but certain programs like discord broke and wont launch. On the picture opened properties for the drive through file explorer (left) and disk management (right). Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

I'm trying to wipe my secondary hard drive because I did a clean install of windows on my main M.2 NVMe drive and would like to wipe the hard drive, however, when I go into my Admin account and try to format it, it pops up with errors along the lines of "An application is using files from this drive, close those applications and try again." I made sure no other accounts are open, and the only other processes open are ones from the C-Drive (I checked Task Manager) so how exactly do I wipe it? I tried both File Explorer's method (going to "My PC --> format") and Disk Partition Manager's method and neither worked (disk partition's format button was greyed out, I.E un-clickable) so not sure what to do. How do I fix this?

I have a 500 GB hard drive from a Playstation 4 Slim. My brother wants me to get the clips off it. The PS4 itself died and is gone. I've read online that even if I had another PS4, it wouldn't help because it would have newer firmware. There is recovery software that I can pay for that seems to extract all the photos and videos off the drive, but that pulls off literally every video and photo, which doesn't seem very useful. I'm not sure what I could do if anything. He has a PS5 now with the same PlayStation account, and as far as I can tell, clips didn't transfer and can't be transferred over the cloud in any way. Does anyone know a way I could somehow get his clips back?
