Hi, I'm planning a new Hackintosh build and would greatly appreciate insight from G.SKILL TridentZ RGB or Corsair Vengeance RGB owners. My questions is -- say I build the computer and install Windows on it, install the software (Aura Sync in the case of G.SKILL, Corsair Link in the case of Corsair) and set the memory color. Then, while you are rebooting, or if you uninstall the software, or boot into linux/hackintosh MacOS, does it 'remember' the colors you set? The best info I've found seems to suggest that Corsair Vengeance RGB will remember the 'mode' (?) in some internal storage location but not the patterns. (?) Thank you in advance for your help.

A while ago I attempted to build a Hackintosh for the family computer. Aside from me and my dad, my whole family was used to our iMac and OSX. It got old, so I used my skills to build one rather than buy another similarly spec'd one for over $5000 or whatever. Plus, I got to do my one and only white build! It has an i5 quad-core and a GTX 1050. I failed, though. She settled for me just installing Win 10 so the kids could use it. I tried running it in VMWare Workstation, but it was glitchy and bad. Here's my question, is there a way that I can, not dual-boot into Win and Mac, but like, set them both up to have a seamless transition without having to reboot the PC? Like, assign each user to a different OS? I had something like that going, as when you were signed as any of my brothers, it was Win10, but when you signed in as my mother, the VM was automatically open and it went right into the OSX desktop. But like I said, it was glitchy and slow. Anyone ever done something like this before? It would mean that my Mom could actually use the office computer comfortably AND nobody else would have to settle for Mac!

Hello all I've had my eyes on a second hand Medio-2012 Macbook Pro purchased in '13. It has the following specs: I7-3720M 8gb DDR3 ram 512gb SSD 2880x1800 Retina display The guy is offering it at 670 usd which I believe is a fair price point. However, do you guys think this thing will hold up for years to come? Objectively its specs are still pretty impressive but I am worried what to expect from such an old machine. I have no way of trying it out before buying it (as the seller lives far away). According to the seller, however, it has no hardware flaws and as such is in mint condition. I'm having a hard time finding reviews of this thing relevant to current standards in computers and so I'm hoping one of you guys could help me judge this deal.

So i'm thinking about installing Mac OS on one of my spare pc's i haven't decided which yet but anyway point is i know jack shit about Mac OS basically because to be honest ive always really just hated the idea of using it BUT a recent inspiring video i watched has given the motivation and want to give it a go ONLY for its editing abilities because even on old hardware like what was shown in the video i watched which was a G5 from like 2005. Anyway backstory aside i'm here to ask: What version of Mac OS should i install on an older pc like LGA 771 based (X5460) for editing? Cheers guys

Hey guys! I am a freelance videographer that does mostly wedding videos and some simple corporate promotional videos. I use FCPX for my editing and I really like using it. I know there are better editing programs out there like premiere and avid. I really don't have the time at the moment to try and learn a new editing platform. For what I do, FCPX works great. Any ways, to my main point. I use a 2016 mac book pro that doesn't have dedicated GPU. I am starting to really feel the lack of processing power that I need for some projects I'm doing with higher resolution video. I recently had to make a video for a friend that filmed a show choir event for his kid and it was over two hours long at 1080p/23.98 FPS. My rendering took over 4 hours and the transcoding was over 8 hours to complete! This was just brutal, especially since I have other projects I'm working. I want to build a better rig of my own that still allows me to use FCPX. Something like a hackintosh or even a windows system with the ability to run Macintosh in a virtual window or something. Would love a dual OS system though. So, in the future I can move to a better editing software. Would rather spend something that allows me to expand and upgrade rather dropping over 5 grand on a iMac pro. Is there prebuilt systems out there that are designed for this or should I just spec out my own gear and build the entire thing myself? I just wasn't sure if there were companies out there that can do a custom pc that is designed to run apple and windows for people like me who use certain apple programs and use windows. Any ideas or suggestions are greatly appreciated! Would love to hear from anyone that has a system like this already and what they use! Thanks, Phil

Hi all, Long time watcher, first time poster. I'm putting together a 4K gaming rig (and VR and workstation for development, video editing, possibly FCPX via Hackintosh and occasional VM host) based around a 1080 TI for dat buttery smooth 60fps. I have a relatively new MBP as my daily work driver for OS X, so not worried about perfect Hackintosh compatibility as long as it's usable for the occasional 4K video project. Located in Estonia, using Amazon.de € for the pricing basis (will check local sources as well) and budget wise looking at something between 1800-2600€. Obviously that's a generous range and I'd prefer to stay in the lower end of that, but this post is exactly about trying to figure out weather I should go with the i7 8700K or a Ryzen 5 1700X. Looking to stick the whole thing in a mini-ITX case for minimal footprint, easy transportability for VR sessions. To my understanding, at 4K I'll be heavily GPU bound anyway and the extra clocks from the 8700K will pretty much be wasted whereas the Ryzens extra cores would probably benefit my other tasks significantly? Anyone have experience with (virtualized?) Hackintoshes on Ryzen? Do Thunderbolt addon cards work fine on Ryzen for doing ye olde fibre cable to different room + dock trick? Do Thunderbolt 3 docks support 4k at 60fps? As a bananas alternative I was also considering a Threadripper build with 16+ cores and 2x1070 TIs and Unraid so I could combine my and my girlfriends (architect, both GPU and CPU bound tasks) machines into one, get crazy performance when only one of us is using it and good enough if we need to share. But am I correct in that multi GPU scaling is so bad that 2x1070TIs will not reach anywhere near as good as one 1080TI? The reasoning being that then we could each use a 1070 when both are using the machine and reboot to a 2X1070 config when not. How is Unraids virtualization overhead? Any major downsides to running a NAS with Unraid at the same time next to the two workstations? Thanks for any helpful insights, Joonas

Hey friends, I've been planning a rackmount chassis build for a long time now that is designed as a catch-all productivity machine for music production, programming, schoolwork, etc. And for those unfamiliar, the chassis will be physically isolated (in a closet) from the peripherals so as to produce a cleaner desk environment 100% free of fan noise, something actually not that uncommon in the world of audio production. Anyway, something i'm not too clear on is if it is possible to achieve non-integrated graphics performance without the use of a eGPU like the razer core. Since the only cable running from the computer will be a single thunderbolt 3, likely coming from some random thunderbolt pcie expansion card, what I've read seems to indicate that it will be pulling only integrated graphics performance, even if there is a GPU installed in the system. Is this the case? Assuming this is the case, integrated graphics is not something I have a big issue with - the machine is going to be doing almost no gaming. For integrated GPUs i'm considering the intel i7 5775C. I would like some feedback in regards to what platform i should use. I ideally would like to dual boot macos and win10 but i have literally 0 experience in the world of the hackintosh. Is AMD worth considering? Lastly, i've had mixed results researching thunderbolt docks. it seems that they can be riddled with issues of disconnects between power cycles (something i've experienced with usb docks) and the like. given that they are so expensive i would like to get my money's worth. I need atleast 4 back facing usb ports (usb2/3), and the capability to run two (or potentially three) displays. An sd or microsd card reader would be a huge plus as well. Does anyone know what linus is using? Thanks

So I currently have an early 2015 MacBook 13". Some one is looking to buy it for around $800. I REALLY like GarageBand for making and performing music live, but its not available on a windows platform. I have some other responsibilities that require that I have a Windows based computer. I'm not too knowledgeable about Hackintoshes so could someone who is more into the know create a parts list for me, if that is even possible with my price range... The budget is the $800 and I would like to produce music off of it...

Hey Pals, I am about to replace my 9 year old PC with a new gaming build. I am a kinda retired gamer but would like to play now and then a game. I would play WoW but also some new titles. I do some design work and light video cutting work. Currently, I do that on my 2015 MacBook Pro. I really like to work on my mac but it also getting a bit slow for some tasks. So here my question: I am looking for a "good" PC configuration/build which also allows me to install a different OS besides Windows. I want to play some 3d shooter and MMORPG title and like to do some graphics work. For the budget, I plan something around 1000€ (approx 1200 USD). I just need the computer. Got monitor and peripheries. P.S. sorry for some grammar issues. Best from Berlin, Germany Viktor

Basically my goal is to run Windows 10 and be able to dual boot to Mac OS X, preferably id like to be able to install the latest High Sierra but if not its whatever, anything above 10+ i think would suffice! Ive done and tried Mac OS X on VMware and its just so laggy from software to possible hardware updates required on the Mac side of things, i would like to be able to install OS X on my external HDD, to make internal eventually and be able to run it without this lag issue as it takes like 10sec to process any commands like simply loading up an app or program or just the About option. BUILD: CPU - Intel i7-6700k RAM - 32GB of Vengeance® LPX 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 DRAM 3200MHz C16 MOBO - MSI 170A GAMING M5 GPU - Asus STRIX AMD R9 380 4GB Storage - Crucial 256GB SSD, Samsung 250GB SSD, WL 3TB HDD, + Toshiba 320GB External HDD (Will Be For Mac OS X, If My System Is Compatible) So, if your able to assist me on setting this up to work properly, or if im even able to if my hardware is compatible id really appreciate any and all support for this. Thanks for your time!

I am trying to set up a hackintosh using an old lenovo Thinkpad twist(model s230u) that I have kicking around. In order for me to boot from something other than the boot drive, I need to turn off secure boot and change the boot order, or press f12 to boot off of the USB thumb drive. However, when I go into the BIOS, most of the options seem to be locked out. They're there, but I can't tab/arrow key into them and pressing enter just beeps. I can't even change the time and date in the BIOS. The only thing I've been able to change was to put it into diagnostic mode. Config is as follows: UEFI Bios version GDETB4WW (1.74) latest update 2017-9-14. 4G system memory with 400gb HD. The picture below is the diagnostic boot, the two videos, the first is trying to boot from ssd, the other is me trying to change bios settings. https://youtu.be/qgUzncYfvP8

Hi all, I am helping my gf build a dual boot windows/hackintosh for her content creation work using Octane (GPU Render) and After Effects. I have minimal pc building experience but have watched a ton of linustechtips so this build will be quite the experience. The pc build is currently: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/HfJN8K 2x GTX 1080 Ti for Octane First buy one then another in the future 64 GB of RAM for After Effects 2x 250GB M.2 NVME for Windows and Mac dual boot and fast content transfer The motherboard is the Asus Strix Z270F Data Sheet: http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/LGA1151/STRIX_Z270F_GAMING/E12193_STRIX_Z270F_GAMING_UM_V2_WEB.pdf?_ga=2.13433207.1774186167.1506715735-702477231.1506715735 My concern is whether the motherboard can handle everything pcpartpicker lists the only compatibility issue as: "The motherboard M.2 slot #2 shares bandwidth with a SATA 6.0 Gb/s port. When the M.2 slot is populated, one SATA 6.0 Gb/s port is disabled." I crossed in red, my understanding of SATA ports disabled when connecting the two M.2 drives. I am somewhat confused for M.2_2. Does it mean SATA5 and SATA6 are disabled and a x4 PCIE channel is used up? Can the motherboard's PCIE handle 2x GPUs, 2x M.2 drives, and WiFi PCIE adapter card?
