Hi, i could really do with some help, I not sure what i should put this in but i don't know what CPU, Motherboard or amount of RAM i should use. I want a PC i can play games with but can also use for web design and as a NAS. I want to be abel to use OSX in a virtual machine so i can have all the benefits like text forwarding. I want to test my website on the PC whilst using it as a server as well this will just be for me to test it as if it was in a server on multiple devices and make sure that it work on them all. What hardware would you surgest, I will be using a Define R5 as the case for reference and GTX 970 as graphics card with a 480gb san disk ssd. I was think of putting to of these in raid 1. Any help would be much appreciated josh

What is your intended use for this build? The more details the better. I plan to first off, most likely, hackintosh it. I know AMD doesn't really fare well with Hackintosh but I have seen some signs of life online and since its a fairly budget build, I think AMD is the way to go. This is not a "main gaming build." I will obviously do light gaming here and there (like hard-core games but not everyday) so thats why I chose a 960. It seems to fit the budget nicely. The main reason for my build is to basically develop. Games, applications, compile Android ROMs. Those tasks, can be very extensive on the CPU. I am currently pursuing a Computer Science degree. If gaming, what kind of performance are you looking for? (Screen resolution, FPS, game settings) Well, I want to do gaming but its not the main reason for the build, but when I game, I'd probably want fairly decent FPS (40+) in High/Medium. I don't have a good monitor (don't plan on getting a new one yet) so I mean medium, high settings are probs fine for me. What is your budget (ballpark is okay)? $750 Canadian dollars MAX In what country are you purchasing your parts? Canada The prices here are insane compared to USA. UUGGGHHHH. Draft of build http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/p/F4VG99 Provide any additional details you wish below. Hope you guys can take me into the right direction and I make the best decision in this build. Thanks! PS: Sorry, copied straight from /r/buildapc. Hope no one minds..

Hi, I am planning a prety epic project, 2 computer, one server. The first computer will be my actual one, you can see it in my video on a other tread. The second computer will be a hackintosh, made with the same specs as a 3500$ mac pro, so almost 1800$ no monitor. And the third build will a prety dope home server. Why? Well I am using my computer for editing already, but my father is still on a 2005 Imac... So he wants a new one. And the home storage is for us 2, I will no longer use harddrive in my build, every not needed files will be on the storage. We will keep 500gb ssd in our desktop. The point of that is to build an epic editing room. We are both in this domain, I am studing in "commercial and graphic design", and he is a movie editer. Now the hackintosh build: the goal is to create a macpro killer for less of 3500$ so there is my final nonfig: Mb: gigabyte x99-sli Cpu: 5820k Gpu: gtx 970 or amd w5100 or r9 390 Ram: 32gb avexir ddr4 Case: 4U rackmount rosewill, a lot of fans for a rackmount... 2 samsung evo 250gb ssd, raid 0 Cooler: noctua NH D14 10gbits adapter 750w psu For the server, this one I am paying for it The parts are not setle yet, but I am thinking about dual low power 6core xeon, like the E5 2603 v3. So a dual socket mb. Just a litle gpu is needed. A dual rj45 10gb adapter. Around 8x 4tb WD RED in raid 10. And a raid controller. 600w psu Everyting will be in one room, the two computer on each side and the server rack neer the window for cooling. (I live in quebec its almost -40 in winter) I dont think I have forget anything... So my questions are: do you have any other idea to lower the cost and help this project? Should I made a video(timelaps) of the construction, normally arround jenuary or february? And what do you think of this project? Sorry for my awful english... I am from quebec, and I am a proud french canadian hahah

Hello LTT Forums people! So I have a dilemma currently. Context: For the past year I have been looking at/thinking about my 18 birthday which I intend to be a PC or a Hackintosh. I do a lot of audio work, as well as doing a lot of gaming, specifically LOL and GTA. My price range is about up to $3,500 (preferably 3,000) and I have a specific theme like it or not HATERS! Yes it's Razer and before all you corsair fans start trying to tell me I'm being an idiot and that i should go with corsair instead, I have my mind set. I like the razer color scheme as well as their now famous Blackwidow chroma. So don't hate on me internet. I like it so suck it up. Here are the things I do know: Intel cpu for sure Most likely pro tools Razer I need audio hardware to power my lovely HD 650's, my most beloved possession. NZXT H440 Razer Edition Will need a OS Will not go for another real mac after my last one died on me after only 3 YEARS! Here are the things I need to figure out: AMD OR NVIDIA and what GPU. What CPU (I'm thinking more 6700k or 4790k if hackintosh) Should I do a hackintosh considering the fact i will be using pro tools and will it effect gaming to do a hackintosh What my list of parts would look like 1440p, 3440x1440, or 4k On board audio or something like the Mayflower odac/amp gsync at 1440p or 3440x1440p lg. because acer's predator is just too dam expensive right now although it will be built in may! Storage idea Watercooler Finally IPS or TN Please feel free to leave any positive comments/ constructive critique of my build that you would like and feel free to help me because it is my first build! Also my pcpartspicker builds aren't very smart most likely so I'm not putting them in so I hope to have Lists linked in the description for help deciding the best parts!

Greetings, I've been planning two upgrades/changes to my system for some time now. The first was to install OSX on the machine, dual-booting with Windows, and the second was to have an SSD for the operating system(s). However, I wasn't entirely sure how to proceed with this, as I'll require mass storage space for games on Windows as well as video/audio production work on OSX. As of now, I'm running Windows 8 on a WD Caviar Blue 1TB HDD. Which of the following should I do? Purchase a single, high-capacity SSD, partition it, and partition the storage drive as well for both Mac and WIndows? (Not yet aware if this works). Purchase a single high-capacity SSD exclusively for Mac OSX (boot and storage), and use Windows purely for gaming with the existing Caviar Blue drive? Purchase two low-capacity SSDs (one for each OS) and an additional storage drive for OSX? Also, please refrain from suggesting alternative audio and video production tools to those available on Mac OSX. If I didn't want to use mac-exclusive software on my computer, I wouldn't have made this post to begin with. Regards, Aereldor.

Hi, So next summer I am going to be moving and switching jobs. The new job will require me to reloacte every 1.5 - 3 months and I will need my computer with me at all times. I will be selling my current computer right before I move, just so I don't have to bring it with me. My current situation is that I'm using a Hackintosh. I do own a Macbook Pro as well, and I do prefer the OS to Windows (although I do have a second OS drive with Windows 8.1 for gaming, which also gets a lot of use). I've found that for the software I use (namely Avid software like Pro Tools and all the necessary drivers for the current audio gear I own) OS X runs better. However a Hackintosh is not without problems... It took me a LONG time to set up and still doesn't run *perfectly*, although it is stable at the moment. This has presented me with a few options. I can either: _______________________________ A) Save up lots and buy a Mac Pro (trashcan style). I would be looking at at least the 8 core version and would like 64GB of RAM, although I would likely buy this third party as it's much cheaper that way. I would also get the dual D700 GPU, so that I can have a top gaming experience in Windows 8.1/10 (boot camp), although this is subject to drivers... I've seen lots of people saying it works and some saying it really doesn't... B) Get the same Mac Pro but with the least expensive GPU and build a Windows rig on the side. Likely an ITX, very compact rig with something like a 980ti C) Build an X99 Hackintosh based on the 5960X. This way I would be able to choose my GPU, but then I would be stuck with the same potential issues I have now, that it could just decide to give up on me if some settings aren't right... _______________________________ Now, considering I'll be travelling a lot (I have an Impala, '03) I won't be able to go for anything huge, which is why the Mac Pro really shines, because it's so tiny for all the power it packs. Also the stability of running OSX on a computer built for it is priceless. BUT, it's also very expensive and the lack of any additional internal storage is very annoying as i'll have to carry round a few external drives too, or build a NAS which is even more cost... Option B is probably the option I would go for if money was no object. I could have the best of both worlds, wouldn't have to worry about compatibility and it wouldn't take up too much space (something like a Corsair 250D or even smaller). Building a Hackintosh could be really good. I was thinking of possibly buying a rackmount flight case (so, extra protection in the car) and if I were to use a 4U chassis in an 8U flight case, I could keep my other audio gear in the same flight case and have it permanently linked up. All I would need to do when I get out the car is plug it into power and monitors. This is also more cost effective (although it would still be expensive), but it then comes with the worry, time and effort of putting together a Hackintosh... I was looking to potentially water cool as well (if I go for option C, which would come out kind of like Linus' personal rig in the near future), but how would this hold up on the road? Is that just a really bad idea? I feel like that's another benefit of the Mac Pro. I would have a flight case for that too (basically a hard box with foam inside, they only cost about $150) but I feel like that would be a lot better on the road.... Any thoughts on this are helpful. Basically I want something that will run cool and fast (hence why I don't just use my laptop with a few monitors), work well, game well, be roadworthy and also compact. This is still about 9-10 months off, but I'd like to have a plan as soon as possible, even if I pick parts when I'm out there. Thanks!

Hey guys, I have been trying for two years now to try and get Yosemite on my older PC. It has not amazing specs, but it can run win 10 fine. Here are the specs CPU: Intel Core 2 quad Motherboard: Asus P5Q Graphics: Zotac GT630 Ram: Unknown Brand (8gb) I wont list PSU and case...but if you need to know any other specs... let me know. I have been trying for two years like i said, and i didnt really touch it this summer again, but i have been able to get it to mavericks, but when i try to use the Yosemite update tool for Niresh, it doesn't work at all. And when i try installing Yosemite, it never works. Is there something wrong with my hardware? Cause as far as i know, nothing there seems to sound like a problem.... If you need any more info guys, Just let me know.

I have a AMD cpu and a GTX 750TI (see full specs on my page) for my hackintosh, it is fully working but i cannot get HDMI audio to work. I have three Digital outs on my hackintosh they all say HDMI and non of them work. I have Voodoo for my audio, it works but not HDMI. I have tried several fixes and they did not work. I use Chameleon (i think) as a boot loader and i opened it under applications and said enable HDMI audio and save it into /Extras and rebooted and it is still not working. HDMI works but not HDMI audio.

Greetings, I've been using a Macbook Pro for about seven years now, and have just moved over to Windows (8.1) after building my PC. However, until I get the chance to finally learn how to use Windows editin gprograms (Premiere, Cubase, Vegas etc.) I didn't want to waste the years of experience I have on OSX software, like Logic or Final Cut. I've been considering using my copy of OSX to install Hackintosh, but I would also like to use this computer for gaming, and need a way to keep Windows on it. Two methods that present themselves are dual-booting Windows and Mac via a bootloader, or installing OSX and then loading into Windows via BootCamp. Does either method have any advantages over the other? Thanks, Aereldor.

Greetings, I've been considering upgrading to a solid state drive in the next few months, and I had a few questions about this. Since I currently have my operating system and all my programs on my hard drive, will I have to back up my data, format it, install the OS on the SSD, then plug in the old HDD and reinstall everything? Also, is it possible to dual boot OSX and Windows off an SSD and use the same HDD for storage and programs on both via partition? Or will I have to get separate drives for storage on each operating system? Sorry about the multitude of possibly idiotic questions- I'm very new to this. Regards, Aereldor.

Hey folks, quick question for anyone running one of these cases with the water-cooling kit designed for it… I want to do a Hackintosh with the Hadron Hydro case, & I want to use the water-cooling for both the GPU & CPU. Core parts list: ASUS ROG Maximus VII Impact motherboard Intel i7 4790K CPU 16GB Crucial Ballistix Elite RAM (2x8GB DIMMs) 250GB Samsung 850 EVO 2.5" SSD (OS & apps) 2TB Seagate Barracuda 3.5" HDD (Stuff) EVGA GeForce GTX 980 Ti (baseline reference model) For water cooling, I want to stick with EK parts: EK-FB ASUS M6I monoblock; acetal + nickel EK-FC Titan X full-cover block; acetal + nickel EK-FC Titan X backplate; black EK-XRES 100 DDC 3.2 PWM reservoir/pump combo EK-DDC heatsink housing; black EK-Uni Holder w/DDC add-on Asst. EK compression fittings & 45/90 degree angle adapters; for 3/8" ID x 5/8" OD tubing; black PrimoChill PrimoFlex Advanced LRT tubing; 3/8"ID x 5/8" OD; clear PrimoChill anti-kink coil; for 5/8" OD tubing; black Now that we know what is going into this system, the real question… What are the dimensions/measurements of the two extender fittings that come with the Hadron Hydro water-cooling kit…?!? I want to replace them with fittings from EK, just to keep everything uniform, and to keep the black fittings thing going… I would LOVE to be able to use an EK rad as well, but the way the Hadron Hydro case is set up seems to lock you into the EVGA rad unless you want to start cutting up the case; which I do not. The thing that really sucks is that I am basically paying about 160 bucks or so for a simple 240mm rad with 'special snowflake' fitting locations. The rest of the kit will not be used at all! I wonder, if I can get EK fittings to make the connection between rad & cooling loop, maybe I can get EVGA to sell me JUST the rad…?!? Cross-posting this around the web, looking for answers…! ;^p

Hi First time, first post, not the first build I've done some builds - mostly hackinto$h rigs for friends and colleagues who can not afford the "iTrashcan" but are forced, or felt like using Final Cut Pro. The times are changing and FCP is no more this powerhouse of innovation it used to be |* ....so I am Now using the Adobe Suite plus some NUKE and some mac specific fractalresizing tools - still need osx. After 6 Years (!!!) I am building a new rig for myself. The old one is still good enough for most work but I would like to edit 4K native and not proxy anymore and since it has to be somehow osx86 hackable I have to relay on the Gigabyte motherboards mostly because they are very well supported in the community. My questions for you all: 1. Do I really depend so much on the CPU for PremierePRO and AfterEffects? Do I still invest in a monster CPU (double Xeons) with many cores and some smart GPU (Gaming or low-end Quadro) or a monster quad SLI or double TITANs for the CUDA power and some smart quad-core CPU 2. I know the more RAM the happier but is there a glass ceiling? Is there much difference between 32, 64 and 128 Gb RAM for AfterEffects or is 32Gb + raid0 on SSD enough for smooth 4K and 1080p work. Asking because 64 and 128 Gb is only possible on more pricey X motherboards. 3. Is it still any Quadro over top GTX or is this only the question of reliability and computing precision which I would never really see on the screen? I am a freelancer with some knowledge in electronics so I have no problem with troubleshooting some problems with graphic output, but still there are some days I would prefer not to make my hands greasy - especially when the client is sitting beside me. 4. RAID 50 SSD or should i go to the wild side with RAID 0 SSD and daily backups to cheaper HDD RAID3 5. M.2, PCI-E or just "plain" SSD RAID for media cache? Does it really pay to invest in PCI-E storage or even M.2 or is it just early adopter and high end pro thing and the speed to $ ratio is insane 6. Water or AIr? I know, this question is somehow like "Windows or Mac" and every one can answer "if you can afford it buy it". My question is is the Water loop (not prebuild cpucollers, but system cooling with gpu) still worth the investment or are the newer CPUs cooled enough by air (noise, or better the lack of it, is super important to me) So this is everything I would like to know from You guys I hope there are some questions for other Editors SFX guys here Of course if You want some questions about Hackintosh I would be glad to answer them (hacking since Leopard) Thank You and Cheers K _______________ *sorry but the X version is elegant and sh..t but I never edited on a Moviola so I don't need/get this one timeline approach

So, for a while now I've known that my computer can run a hackintosh OS but, the main drawback is hackintosh does not support 780ti apparently. So, the question is would it be even worth installing a mac os even if I can't use my gpu with it? Btw please correct me if im wrong about the 780ti not working with osx because if thats the case i'll upgrade tonight.

basically I want to triple boot Linux, Windows, and OS X Yosemite. I already have three different boot drives but I want to be able use my WD Red 2 TB as a hard drive that is readable across all three Operating Systems. Is this possible in any way? Hi, I installed OSX on my PC a few months ago to find out my R9 295X2 was not supported so OSX displays in a really low resolution. I have since found this video which shows the R9 290/X working in OSX. I was wondering if there would be a way to make the R9 295X2 work with OSX even if it was just one of the GPUs so that I could use OSX in my native resolution (3440x1440). I personally prefer OSX to Windows so please don't tell me just to stick to Windows because I use both. I use Windows for gaming and programmes not supported for OSX. All of my PC's components are officially compatible with OSX apart from my GPU, so I was wondering if anyone could help me to get it working properly. Hello, I'm thinking of getting the Yamaha HS5 studio monitors and am wondering if I should also purchase a DAC (or Amp). I am using a Hackintosh and am unable to use audio coming from my motherboard so I use a Syba USB stereo audio adapter. I also have a pair of Audio Technica ATH-M50xs. Should I be purchasing a DAC, like the Fiio E10k, or Audioengine D1? Will they sound okay w/o the DAC, and if not, how much of a difference will their be with the DAC?
