I am planning on recording gameplay and also streaming games on OBS and Twitch. Here is my current Setup/Build. i7-6700k Asus ROG Max VIII Hero EVGA GTX 770 ACX Corsair Dominators 16GB Samsung EVO 840 500GB Samsung EVO 850 120GB Boot WD Green 2TB Corsair AX750 PSU Corsair Hydro H100i GTX NZXT H440 Red Also thinking about SLIing the GPUs, I just want my computer to last 2-3 years without upgrading for a while

Hi guys, I would be grateful for any advice on my new PC build I am from Melbourne, Australia. My shopping has been across CPL, MSY and PC Case Gear. Prices in AUD, sorry about that. Major question: Do I need a Skylake i7 (instead of i5) for primarily gaming use with my GTX980? I have no major need for multitasking or video editing. I don't want to spend too much money (It's $165 AUD more for i7-6700K compare to i5-6600K) and have a higher power consumption, BUT I don't wish to Bottleneck the GTX980. More info below - My requirements for my new PC are: Play latest games, highest settings, 1080p @ about 50-60fps Recreational Adobe Premiere video editing (light work, just holiday vids. Happy to wait long export time) Maybe basic overclocking (beginner lvl, just minor tweaks under my NZXT liquid cooler) Not really interested in SLi Low priority: Potential for 4K gaming @ 30fps (I don't have a 4K monitor, this is just a thought for the future) Have bought already: Motherboard: MSI Z170A Gaming Pro ($265 AUD) RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX 8GB DDR4-2133 ($80 AUD) Power supply: Be Quiet! Pure Power 600W ($99 AUD) Case: NZXT H440 Red ($170 AUD... i think, purchased last year) Cooler: NZXT Kraken X61 ($129 AUD...i think, purchased last year)Total sunk cost: $743 AUD I need you guys' guidance about what CPU and GPU choices suits me. Intention to buy: GPU: Gigabyte GTX980 Gaming G1 4GB ($730 AUD) CPU: Intel i5-6600K Skylake ($355 AUD)Subtotal: $1085 AUD My understanding from research (tell me if I'm wrong!): According to this Anandtech article: On a GTX980, i5-6600K and i7-6700K average fps is pretty much the same Some research on Hyper Threading (including Techquickie video) tells me Gaming is not making use of more than 4 threads, so i5 is fine for gaming purposes. A guy on Yahoo Answers suggested to me I consider a high-end GTX970 to save money and have similar performance - and spend the savings on the i7, how about it? But to me, you guys are the expert community to ask, after years of watching LinusTechTips. Thanks so much to anyone who reads this. Let me know where I'm wrong, and tell me what you guys think!

Hi all, I have recently started building a system and due to my budget I have decided to buy every component I wanted except for the graphics card. I am planning on adding a graphics card hopefully by end of this month. So, I have a system built and running as below: Case: Coolermaster Elite 130 CPU: Intel i7-4790k M/B: ASRock Z97E-ITX/ac RAM: Samsung DDR3 PC3-12800 16GB (8x2) SSD: Plextor M6G 256GB M2.2280 (I know...Z97E-ITX/ac does not support 2280 but I was able to fit it in) Samsung 840 EVO 256GB Cooler: Coolermaster Nepton 120XL PSU: Seasonic M12II-620 EVO VGA: "Empty" On top of the above system, I was planning on adding inno3D iChiLL GTX 980 4GB HerculeZ X4 Air Boss. However, I have found out that Elite 130 only supports up to 40mm depth (35mm recommended) for a graphics card, but HerculeZ X4 Air Boss is 58mm, which is way over the limit. I am not exactly sure how Coolermaster and inno3D measures the depth, but I got 50mm from the farthest side of the PCI-e slot to the case wall, still not enough for 58mm but quite a bit more than 40mm. So I wanted to hear some suggestions on what I should do. Would HerculeZ X4 Air Boss fit? If not, which graphics card would you recommend? (Preferably another variation of GTX 980)

**Update: Hey everyone, so I ended up painting the backplate and it looks fantastic, I did remove these little strips for the sake of painting, obviously. However, I stupidly attached them to a piece of cardboard, which then ripped up and stuck to the strips as I was attempting to put them back on. So I can't really use these three included ones anymore. I do have some one sided, adhesive 3M rubber/plastic mounting strips, if I were to cut those to match the sizes of the original strips, and put those on, would that work? I'm wondering if they'll be resistant to heat, don't want them to melt or anything, that would certainly be not fun. Seems like it could work, material of the 3m strips is pretty much the same thickness, but maybe there's something I'm not thinking of. Am I being paranoid? Is this super dangerous? **Old post Simple question, got a backplate for my 980 today. Peeled the protective plastic off the front, but noticed there are three plastic strips on the back of the card. I'd like to paint my backplate, but would need to remove these strips to do so, or else the paint would just stick to them. They're made of a hard plastic, kind of like a phone screen cover. Anyone know what the heck these are? Do they have to do with cooling? They don't seem to line up with anything in particular on the back of the 980, not sure. And I certainly don't want to remove them if these are integral in spreading heat or something. Just to clarify, I'm not talking about the thermal pads, I know those need to stay. Hi there! Whenever I play GTA V, I can play for a maximum of around an hour. After that, it freezes, with the sound continuing. Most of the time, it crashes so I cant even alt+tab or ctrl+alt+dlt, so I have to hit the manual reset button on my tower. This time, however, I was able to take a snapshot of the error that popped up because I alt+tabbed in time. This has happened before on other games, but I can't remember how I fixed it. Thanks in advance!

Okay, I've made another thread already but I didn't want to bump it as last time I did, people responded to OP and not the bump. I hope that's okay. I'm quite long-winded, so bear with me as I get to the point. I got SLI 980 on a MSI Z97 Gaming 9 AC in an Corsair Air 540 case which has 3 ports for GPUs. One top, then the next one is right next to it and then the final one is a bit further away, basically at the bottom of the motherboard and the case. I'd have liked to put my second 980 on that bottom one so the top one doesn't basically suck air from another hot GPU but I've been told that you should always take the "second" lane and use the top one for your monitor cables etc. And I've also have liked the cables to have been in the bottom because my logic (from my limited knowledge) is that the one with the cables will be the primary GPU thus the one with most heat. Anyway, my question(s) is (are): Right now I have Firefox open (it has a lot of tabs, like 80 but not loaded), one movie 1080p movie paused with Media player classic, Steam, Origin, Skype (call going) and Battle.net launcher, a Steam download and finally, Heroes of the Storm running and right now my GPU heat is like this: 70-74 celcius for what I'm assuming is the top card with monitors plugged in and 48 celcius for the bottom. What when I played GTA V before it didn't go much above 74 either, just stays there, now it's down to 69. Point being that it's running quite hot for no apparent reason?? Also, *can* I put the bottom card in the bottom lane or does it indeed have to be at the one right next to the top GPU And do I have to put cables in top GPU? And off-topic: I was playing GTA V and fraps was saying 70-80+ FPS with everything but MSAA but I could just see/feel that it wasn't running that high, it felt like 30 or less. What gives?? Thankyou.

I'm thinking on buying new graphics card and I'm little bit confused which GTX980 is the best because there are so many of them. I want to choose best gtx980 for money. Please if you know something about gtx 980 recommend me which one should I get, right now i'm thinking of asus strix 980 , sc acx 2.0 , windforce , evga ftw , msi gtx 980 ... please recommend the best performing one thank you. And also on amazon.com reference gtx980 costs more and has less performance, so i'm interested if that's amazon pricing problem or it is meant to be like that.

I game with a Dell 3440 x 1440 ultrawide monitor. I do come close to the cap limit in VRAM with a couple games. (Shadow of Mordor and another but I cant remember what it was.) I love ultrawide and plan on getting the 144mhz Acer monitor when it comes out. I am wondering what opinions are on getting the titan x's and selling the 980's for a little bit of future proofing.

msi gtx 980 + asus hero vii motherboard no post only "B2"
hawk_111 posted a topic in Troubleshooting
quick background: this is my first pc build, this is my dream rig, i went for a silent style and spent a few more bucks to "future proof" since i only game at 1080p. i felt sort of duped by the 970 memory fiasco so i went for a 980 upgrade through msi. I have had this setup with a 970 for about 2 months. set up with 980 was 2 days of it working and even then i had inconsistent startups. quick system spec: asus hero vii motherboard, msi gtx 980, 4790k intel proccessor, 750w gold psu from corsair, 256 gb ssd samsung evo 840, 1tb hybrid hard drive from wd, fractal r5 case, cooler master seidon 120mm Problem: So this system setup used to have a msi gtx970 in it, msi allowed me to pay to upgrade to 980 because of the memory issue. I have the system for about 2 days with the gtx 980 in it and then it refuses to post. It remains at "b2" on error code. i try running system with no graphics card and it runs fine. I just can't get it to post with graphics card in. Everything has been updated so i figure its software related....so i send it in to ncix to get a better opinion. Here is his take: It is been a few days since we start to test your computer. I believe the problem is the compatibility issue between motherboard and video card. This machine only be able to boot up fine intermittently, may be 2/10 . When it boots up, it passes all the stress test. "We tested your video card with another known good machine, it is working every time. The motherboard we are using has z87 chipset. We also tested your machine with another gtx 970 video card. It boots up every time. We also change video card from pci-e_x16_1 to pci-e_x8_2, it still not booting up intermittently. The POST error code always shows B2 when the system is not working. We also updated system BIOS to the latest version, it didn't help. We tested it with a known good power supply with 850w power, same issue. We also tried with an known good RAM, same issue. " his final conclusion was a compatibility issue....but ive contacted both companies at asus and msi. asus is pretty cool about me trying to rma, but msi thinks i'm bat shit insane by my contradicting statements. I have called msi for a rma which luckily is in my city so i can walk right in, i have contacted asus about the issue as well...im considering rma too after i get a second opinion from another shop. He too was a former employee at ncix as a pc technician but he has more parts to work with than the ncix guys did. I was hoping a more thorough test would had been done with at least another brands gtx980 card and a similar motherboard....so hopefully this next tech has a better answer for me. does anyone have a solution to this? will rma be enough to get this system to run everytime?......and is it really a compatibility issue. I really could use some help. i wish luke can take a look at my system since i live in vancouver as well thank you -
so i'm on quite the low budget and was thinking 3xmsi Gtx960 or one msi gtx980 or will one gtx970 be enough and then later on buy another one

So, here I was having a great day, about to build myself a great beast of a pc, but now I find myself in a huge dilemma.! So, I got to choose between getting the Graphics Card: *ASUS GRAPHICS CARD GTX 970 4GB DDR5 DC II OC STRIX EDITION OR *ASUS GRAPHICS CARD GTX 960 2GB DDR5 DC II OC STRIX And I have absolutely no idea which to get. I'm not even sure I want to get an nvidia edition of 2GB or 4GB? I'm not even sure I should be getting an ASUS card manufacturer instead of gigabyte or others maybe. Suggestions and help please. As much as I can get. What should i do? Both of them also point that its "Factory overclocked" does that mean its already overclocked? because I don't want that, having the ability to go overclocked only when running high end games or those things that recommend more power is okay but having an overclocked pc all the time will only lessen my performance and stability in the long run. Want a graphics card that can handle graphical work and rendering and high end games as well. Want the perfect combination of a graphics card able to handle all those things. For my use: well not particularly a gamer but do enjoy the capability of running high end games. I mean I'd like to have the capability of a pc for it, im more or a performance maniac in that respect. :D Also, speaking of performance, have been caught between these choices as well. If you wonderful guys and girls could help me out at this too. I'll owe you a cookie. :D Processor: *Intel Core i7 4790K *INTEL PROCESSOR i5 4670K *INTEL PROCESSOR i5 4670 What do i do? I do enjoy more ghz . As i said performance maniac... Go ahead and leave as many thoughts and comments as you'd like. I'm here to read and reply to every one of them. ! Cheers guys and girls.! . :D

Hello wonderful people. I have started planning to build a new computer. So far I have the processor and peripherals I want, but I need some help with choosing brands, motherboards, and other components http://pcpartpicker.com/user/UberDobs/saved/#view=WVpRsY ^ Le Build My first conflict is that I want to do a twin GTX 980s, but there are sooooo many conflicting opinions. I want something that can perform well and squeeze it all out with a second card, but also something that can keep in the moderately silent range. I've debated ASUS STRIX, EVGA classified, and Gigabyte g1. My Second conflict is Monitors, and I know for sure I'm going double monitors. Initially I was thinking of the RoG Swift w/ Gsync dat resolution doe. I realized after adding it to my list that it costs money, a lot of money. I'm willing to shamelessly throw money at a monitor as long as it looks good and performs well, but I still need enough money in the couch cushions for everything else. My initial plan was to have a gaming monitor in the center and a media monitor on the side (my field of vision is lopsided so this is ideal). The problem I then realised is that the resolutions will probably have to match, right? And can I have two different monitors working together?? Do I have to daisy chain the displays to sync??? I've never been much of a monitor expert so if those who are could give me advice on what I should do about the monitor set up without having to open my wallet too much, that'd be just wonderful. I want a quiet rig. I'll probably cool ol' mr. Haswell with a be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 3 Again, if you guys have any better Ideas, I'll gladly take them. Last but not least: Storage. I know SSDs are faster but I want a lot of space on my computer. A TB is my minimum. Could I solve this with a dropbox? or external and backed up drives for personal stuff? If you made it down here, please leave your advice. This is a very helpful forum and reddit is. . . well. . . Reddit. Thanks

I am confused to which brand to go for, they all have small differences in GPU clock. The gigabyte one is good at OC but its 83$ more than the rest and has only 1yr warranty. I don't want to OC the card. Can you suggest one for me plz.

In my rig I have 2 EVGA GTX980s, And Im looking to get a decent 1440p monitor, I was looking at the asus rog swift 144hz, and I was wondering if the 2 cards would be able to push that beefy monitor to over 144 fps in games such as battlefield on ultra. Should I upgrade? Thank you for your support.

Howdy folks I am just about to buy a GTX 980 to run it on my UHD Samsung 55 TV (HDMI 2.0 compatile). Asus just released their Platinum Matrix but is it worth the extra money? I overclock the card but I am not going to be cooling it with liquid nitrogen any time soon... Which GTX 980 offers the best performance versus best overall value? Any chance they'll release the rumored GTX 980 Ti (or whatever) within the next few weeks? Dear Techies, I'd like to request some assistance regarding my current rig. I've been running into some performance issues while gaming... maybe my settings are bad or the setup I use gets bottleneck-ed. Games with FPS issues: Grand Theft Auto 5 (online - offline) Witcher 3 I usually try to maximize the settings in all of my games (ultra or high). Or perhaps the Nvidia Control Panel settings are bad... I'm not really sure what could be the problem. My rig: PSU: Zalman 650W CPU: Intel i5 3570K (OC-d til 4.2GHz) MB: MSI Mpower Z77 (BigBang) RAM: Corsair Vengeance 2166 MHz DDR3 VGA: GigaByte GTX 980 G1 Gaming Display: LG 34" UM65-P (2560x1080) Peripherals: Razer Naga 2014, Ozone Rage Headset, Razer BlackWidow 2014 Every tip or support is appreciated! Kind reGards, Gergely PS: I'm at work at the moment, so I'm unable to provide screenshots of my settings.
