I have a question. I use Corsair RM850 to power up my PC. For single MSI GTX980 TI 6G, it has two 8-pin power connectors. I searched online, everyone suggest that I connected two slot with two separate cables, and I did. However, if I would like to upgrade my PC to GTX980 Ti SLI, it means I would need 4 separate cables to power up two graphic cards. My PSU may not support that many cables in addition to other parts. I do notice that each cable has two 8-pin connectors, can I power up two GTX 980 with only two cables?

Hello, I brough today a new monitor (second one) LG 24MP58 and when i wanted to change its resolution from native 1920x1080 to 2560x1440 (with multi resolution scaling on) i found that i cant do this, no such resolution is visible on the drop down list furthermore the second display which is 22M45 (also from LG) has no problem with changin it. Anyone can tell me why? EDIT: monitor and gpu is connected via hdmi is it a problem? EDIT: Okay it seems i needed to turn off first and apply this change of SDRS and then re-enable it again and apply xd. Topic is to be closed Cheers

Hello everyone! I have a quick question. I work in the Visual Effects and 3D industry and do a lot of Octane Render rendering (GPU based rendering engine for 3D software). I currently have a GTX 980 and it performs great but I would like to increase my rendering power soon. So my question is. Do I have to get the same exact card? to be able to use two or more GPUs do they have to be in SLI? I'm confused about how this works. On one side I am thinking I could get the same exact card, but for $10-$20 I could get a GTX 980 Ti... so could I have the 980 and 980 Ti running on my system? I know these two can't SLI. I appreciate the help guys! Thanks!

Yo everybody. I have had my pc for almost 1 year and half. In that time i didnt had sound problems like this. For example i am in desktop using browser,etc.... But if i start any kind of game, LoL, Cs:go ,.. i will get a weird noise right of the bat. It sounds like the fan is hitting something,it stops in 1-2s ,and starts in 1-2s... ,but i am not even sure if it the fans itself, could be the GPU. If i "minimize" the game and go to the desktop the sound will stop and look like i am not even with the game open because it doesnt make the weird noise. I havent cleaned my pc since i bought it (1y and half) it could be dust inside the gpu hitting the fans.... or it could be a coildwhine?! or it could be the gpu dying? Sry for bad english . My regards, Wilson

Hey there! I was wondering if i could get a bit of advice on cooling inside a Bitfenix Prodigy. I currently have the windowed side panel installed on the case and two fans that come with the Bitfenix Prodigy installed. Basically, with the windowed side panel, the GTX980 is getting very warm, like almost at 80c warm most of the time when gaming on things like Ark. I was wondering whether it would be beneficial to install some NF F12s instead of the stock case and H100i fans? Or potentially even 140mm fans instead? The h100i makes it awkward to install a second fan at the front so a low profile fan would be needed to add an extra fan in there as well. (The H100i is at the top of the case with fans pulling air through the rad and out of the case.) I'd be much obliged if anyone has any recommendation to improve cooling. Thanks! System Specs are: i7 4790k at stock speed watercooled with a H100i and corsair's stock fans that come with that. Asus GTX980 OC Strix Gigabyte Z97 Gaming 5 Mini ITX Motherboard Corsair Vengeance Pro 2 x 8GB.

Would a machine be able to run multiple GPUs but not be in SLI or Crossfire? The idea would be to have two GPU's powering separate monitors. This set up theoretically being able to run two games at once. A more probable use case would be to play a game on one monitor while the second is dedicated to everything else. [Update] The main goal would have a single card dedicated to games so it's resources are not allocated anywhere but on one screen and one game A second, ideally cheaper gpu, would be used to handle everything else.

I painted my GPUs last year but am not super stoked about the paint job. It looks pretty sloppy and wanna do a bit of touching up and changing the color. Got any recommends on removing Rustoleum? Any ideas are helpful. Thanks!

So, I've really no if this is just normal behavior, or a sign that something is wrong with my GPU. (I could also be doing something wrong with cabling). It's not preventing me from using my PC, but it IS rally damn annoying, getting fed up with it. 1.) Losing signal: When I boot my PC, the Asus (mobo) splash screen appears, and then my monitor loses signal for a few seconds until it picks up again and greets me with my Windows login screen. Other times, my monitor will lose signal for a good 30 seconds when launching steam games, or switching games to "Fullscreen" in their settings (as opposed to windowed, full window, etc...) What's even more annoying. if I have my macbook plugged into my monitors via HDMI, and they lose the DVI signal from my PC, they will auto-switch over to that signal (HDMI), meaning I have to go in and switch my monitors display input every single time they lose signal from my PC (for whatever reason). Every time I launch a game, start up my PC, etc... It's getting annoying. 2.) I've only gotten this in one game I play, Mechwarrior Online (horribly optimized), but I'll occasionally get the error "DXGI_Error_Device_Removed" while playing using DX11 (does not happen with DX9), and the game will crash, display will lose signal for 30-ish seconds, until it all starts working agian. My setup: I've got my GTX980 outputting: 2x Displayport into my Monitor's DVI Inputs using two Displayport to DVI cables I got from monoprice. (Are these s**t? is this the problem?) The REASON I'm using those adapter cables is because I have my PC running on my dual monitors, AND my macbook pro running on those same dual monitors (those are via. HDMI) I can't find a way to run similar cabling from my PC & Mac to my monitors. My monitors have 1x VGA, 1x DVI, 1x HDMI Inputs. My PC GPU has 3x Displayport, 1x DVI, 1x HDMI Outputs My Macbook has 2x Mini Displayport Outputs (Is there some sort of optimal setup for this stuff? Or did I just go the wrong route buying a 980 with only 1x DVI output. Will happily provide any other info needed. Help is much appreciated, thanks.

So the gtx980 costs about the same als the r9 nano but the nano is better, so if I wait for the pascal gpu how will the compare, will the new 970 be as strong as the r9 nano ore the 980? I know that we don't know a lot of specs but looking at growth in the past you could figure something out

Hello everyone, I am looking to buy a new GPU in the future. I am looking at the MSI 980 since it fits my colour scheme and even though it does not have a backplate I can get a custom one from a different company. I saw the MSI GTX 980 LE recently and it costs like 50 dollars less where I would get it from. What I want to know is if I were to get the LE could I over clock it to run as fast as the non LE version OVERCLOCKED. Is the LE version just the same thing but it comes with a slower factory over clock?

Hello, So i got new GPU and its Geforce gtx 980 G1 Gaming from Gigabyte and what worries me that the GPU usage to tend to spike while playing Blade and Soul like its 50% and sometimes even 30% never 90% which i think is not a good sign. Full PC spec in signature, its not OC'ed GPu and i got full hd 60 Mhz display. Any hint what can cause this ? Settings maxed out. Cheers

Hi I have just bought a couple of Reference 980s and both are having overheating issues. Firstly Specs: CPU: i5 4670K @4.2ghz Motherboard: MSI Z87-G45 Gaming SSD: Sandisk 512GB PSU: Corsair CX500M I know the power supply wont run both cards at once, there was an extra offer on the cards if you bought two so a mate is buying the second one off me. So today I swapped out my old GTX760 for the 980 and thought lets see what score my shiny card gets on the heaven benchmark and almost immediately the fans ramped rut until i though I was sat in the middle of a runway and a few seconds later the screen went black and the computer went off. realising this was a overheating thing I turned the computer back on and opened MSI afterburner to see it was showing an idle temperature of about 40°C thinking this was a bit high I manually set fan speed to 80% which only cooled it down by about 2°C I then opened Project CARS and as soon as the card came out of it's low power mode the temperatures shot up to about 80°C (this was before I even got to the Main Menu) Any Ideas Chris

Hello guys! I am planning a Mini-ITX build in a Fractal Design Define Nano S. The psu blocks some of the ventelation for the gpu. Should i consider buying a blower style graphics card or go with an open air design?

I've been posting around the internet for months trying to get help with this and my threads end up in obscurity or nobody can think of a solution. LinusTechTips, Overclock.net, the /r/TechSupport subreddit, forums for Intel, EVGA, Corsair, Adobe, Cockos. Anywhere that might lead to answers. I'm going to try to be a thorough as I can (I should be by now, as I've tried everything imaginable/at my disposal). I'll start with specs, examples of the issue, hardware troubleshoots and software troubleshoots I've tried. As this goes on it's constantly set me back in my full-time work to the point where I'm currently on hiatus until this is resolved. I can't really afford to buy any new parts, and I kind of regret locking myself into X99 chipset because of that. Please, if you think you have even an inkling as to what could be going wrong, lend me your knowledge, help me get back to work. CPU-Z validator: http://valid.x86.fr/4bqa7c pcpartpicker.com partlist in full: http://pcpartpicker.com/user/raelliott/saved/fndPxr Here is a compilation of visual examples of the issues I've been facing. I work (or try to when this isn't happening) as a freelance VFX artist and editor, the issue really is occurring differently in all my various apps, as well as just Windows itself. Every app I've been experiencing issues in: Adobe After Effects/Premiere Pro/Photoshop, Cockos Reaper, VLC, Dropbox, Minecraft Launcher, sometimes Windows itself, in general (i.e. browsing files in Windows Explorer). After Effects, Cockos Reaper (Aero and all visual FX disabled), Windows Disk Management, Cockos Reaper http://imgur.com/a/7M7s5 Cockos Reaper (Aero and all visual FX disabled), Windows Disk Management, Cockos Reaper Desktop & Cockos Reaper: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UvkB2r_FI-o Desktop, Skype, Minecraft Launcher and Google Chrome: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GugHakMD2qY RAM: Tried reseating them in different configs, using all 4, then 2, then 1. Memtest found 2 of 4 sticks were faulty, removed them, ran the test again with just the two working ones and no errors reported. Not sure if my timings and all are alright, so not sure if that could be a culprit (check the CPU-Z link for those settings). GPU: Tried reseating it, dusted it, reinstalled new and old drivers using DDU for full effectiveness. No change. I don't know of a way which is best to test for faults in the GPU, so I tried games. When trying to run Rocket League, after a certain amount of time the screen would go all... tan, then black for a while, and it would either recover from it and sometimes say the display driver failed and recovered, or the computer would restart. If I tried to do ctrl+alt+delete, I know it was opening (I could hear it open, and if I got lucky I could get out of it) even with the screen black. Sometimes it's After Effects or another game I Was testing. A pop-up will say "Display driver stopped responding and has recovered: Display driver NVIDIA Windows Kernel Mode Driver, Version 361.75 stopped responding and has successfully recovered." If it doesn't do that? My mouse cursor will just DISAPPEAR, and the only way to fix it is reboot. Sometimes it'll only disappear on my second monitor, THEN the display driver will fail. And yes, I have tried using only one monitor and these issues still occur. The mouse disappearing is a very common issue I'll have, be it in a fullscreen application or even just on the desktop sometimes. Usually I just restart when this happens. launching Minecraft I have UI issues: I go to switch profile the UI goes invisible (or it's popped up but just not displaying it), and when I hover over the play button it doesn't turn blue like normal, it just makes the button disappear and it just says play (no outline of a button, no active/inactive/hover state, just the word). I did swap this out with a 560ti I have in my gf's computer, and the 980 worked fine there while the 560ti in my workstation still exhibited the issues. So I don't 'think' it's the GPU. MOBO: At one point, I decided it must have been the mobo based on replies I received on the various forums I posted too (it was a Gigabyte GA-X99-SLI) so I RMA'ed it and had to buy a new mobo just so I could continue to do my job (my current mobo is the ASUS X99-A USB 3.1). That did not yield new results, and the RMA returned with no issues found. Couple hundred dollars down the drain and I could not afford to do that again. I have the Gigabyte board still, don't know what to do with it. Considered swapping everything over onto it to see if it would make a difference, but I didn't want to risk messing up any hardware in the process, I don't love taking apart my computer again and again. And yes, I have updated and downgraded the BIOS to try different things. Currently I'm on the latest one for my mobo (2001). PSU: I don't have another one to use to run tests with, and can't really afford to spring for another one right now, so I'm not sure. I don't believe these issues are PSU related, but who am I to judge. At one point, I was using the ASUS AI Suite 3 to do a slight overclock, and it made things stable for awhile. Then the problems started to creep up again, I'm not sure if maybe I changed settings at some point and it led to this change or what, so I uninstalled AI Suite 3 and attempted to set values myself instead. It was difficult to get a stable setup going for awhile, the mobo wouldn't run the memory at 2800MHz using the XMP profile (it's advertised speed but I understand it's still an overclock), but with some tinkering I finally got it to do just that, with the CPU going at it's normal clock speed of 3500MHz. This leaves us at CPU: I tested it using both the Intel Processor Diagnostic Tool and HyperPi and it was fine. I don't have overheating problems or anything else other than the main issue with UI's everywhere. IPDT Results: http://imgur.com/Dz1MNal I've done a fresh re-install of Windows 7 today (unfortunately formatting the wrong SSD at first and wiping a lot of important backup files) and the issues haven't gone away in the slightest. I installed the bare minimum, things like NET framework, DirectX, video drivers, etc. and downloaded the Minecraft launcher to test as it's the fastest way to replicate it. Got the UI problem with ease. Installed Dropbox, went to the preferences and none of the buttons have a active/hover state, if I click one the window will open. The issues are more severe in the apps I need for work, which I haven't installed yet, which is why this is so pressing. If it was isolated to these other programs I could make do, but it's only gotten worse and fully stopped me from being able to work. I can't afford to buy another CPU right now, or even send this one off as an RMA, but I will if I absolutely know it's the issue: but I don't. Please, what could be going wrong? Wrong settings in the BIOS for the CPU/RAM? Bad CPU to begin with? I'm truly at my wit's end...

Hey all, Just pre-ordered the HTC Vive and need to upgrade my GPU before delivery in April. Budget is between $350 and $500, so am trying to decide between the 390x and the GTX 980. Which card would you guys recommend - also which specific models of each are worth considering in that price range??
