Anyone ever have a Maxwell card crash randomly in game under full load for no reason, this card does it in every game eventually, like 30 minutes to an hour ish. I've tried everything I know of just short of throwing it out the window. I've used GPU-Z to monitor what was going on at the time of the crash and the GPU wont clock back down from max unless I disable it in device manager or hard boot the PC. I'm interested to see if anyone can think of anything I haven't already tried

I have too 120mm fans directly under it blowing to the card. I get thermalthrottling while playing and my gpu is reachin 91C. I have just changed the thermal paste. Do you guys have any suggestions ? Its a GTX 980 Zotac amp edition with 2 fans on the cooler.

Been thinking of upgrading my rig. What do you guys think, or should I save my money for a Ryzen build? The micro center near me seems to get open box deals pretty regularly.

So randomly out of the blue one day, I turned on my PC, went to play rocket league and boom, I'm getting micro stutters consistently, about every 8th of a second or so. The first thing I checked was my processor usage and none of the cores are maxing out, neither is the processor getting anywhere near it's max temp. Then I checked the card temp, no problems there. The card is at base clock, so there can't be any problems with overclocking. I also tested both RAM sticks individually and together and found nothing wrong with either of them. So then I decided that it could potentially be my HDD, seeing as it is quite old and full. I bought a new hybrid drive, and installed a fresh version of windows 10 onto it and to my surprise, this worked, this fixed the stuttering in games, however, once I turned my PC off to go to bed and came back to it a couple days later, the stutters returned. I thought perhaps a windows update caused this so I reformatted the drive and reinstalled windows clean, this did not fix the issue. I've also tried several drivers but to no avail. I've tried adaptive V sync, I've tried changing to max performance, I've tried upping prerendered frames etc. I'm completely running out of ideas as to what it could be, any help would be greatly appreciated! Hi forum, I need a suggestion... What would you rather do? I have a 7990 quadfire setup so two cards in crossfire for four GPUs... waterblocks for them are 80€ each plus expedition from China comes to about 175€ for both blocks... There is a guy close to me here who sells a GTX 980 hydro copper from evga for 130€... What would you do? Keep the 7990s and cool them more and crank up the clocks? Switch to 980? I have a 360mm rad plus a 120 so cooling capacity should not be a problem... Thanks and any suggestion is well accepted

Hi my fellow forum friend, I trying to start my youtube gaming channel few days ago, recorded some clips, trying to rendering it in Vegas Pro 14.0, it takes FOREVER, the cpu usage is maxed out but only 5% for my gtx980. I learnt that hardware acceleration might help. The integrated gpu shows up. However, i cannot find my gtx980 in the hardware acceleration list. Little help please? OS:windows 10 pro 64bits CPU:i5 4690k GPU: nvidia gtx980 GPU driver: 430.86 ram:16gb ddr3 this is so frustrating, ahhhhhhhhh

Hello, I am having a problem with my GPU fan speed Fan speed is always at 3200+ RPM, even when idle EVGA precision shows 40% and 3200 RPM When I set it to 100% - percentage does change, but RPM stays the same GTX 980, win 7 x64, latest NVIDIA drivers, tried DDU screenshots from EVGA precision:

Hi guys, I recently got a gtx 980 Windforce used, I didnt pay any money for it because my friend said it was dead. Turns out the card wasnt dead but has some weird problem I cant seem to fix. Under load the 980 just dies, black screen. It shouldnt be my power supply because i tried different units and I am currently running a 1000w corsair one. I already switched power supply cables, PCIE slots, motherboards, platforms etc. I am using the newest drivers and I even flashed the bios. The card doesnt seem to thermal throttle aswell, I cleaned it recently and on idle it barely goes 25° Celsius. I raised the power limit on the card and underclocked it as well, nothing works. My guess is that something on the card might be dead and that it cant handle power under load. I hope you guys have some advice for me. EDIT: I took the card apart again, found something on the pcb. I dont really know what it is, I cant seem to get it off with alcohol. Any Ideas what it could be?

Hello guys, Long story short, last wednesday I was playing BF1 for like 10 minutes when my pc straight shut down. Tried to reboot but it wouldn't. After 15 minutes it finally boot, logged in and check the temp, everything was fine. (CPU 35°C/GPU 33°C) 5/10 minutes into the session, the screen went black and half a sec later, I heard a little "pop" sound and a strong smell of burnt. In an other post I actually thought it was the PSU, so I returned my EVGA 650GQ and my bother in-law lended me an other PSU to test my system and that's when I figured out it was the GPU. First boot with the new psu, the fan spins for half a sec then nothing would happen if I pressed the power button again. So I unplug the gpu and tried to boot, it did. So I went grab an old GTX460 and the system booted into the bios normaly whatsoever. After close inspection of the gpu's pcb, I found some burnt spots. But to this day I still have no clue why my gpu burnt all of a sudden.. The GPU was a GTX 980 Windforce 3X OC from Gigabyte. My dad bought it when it first came out and gave it me to since he bought a 1080Ti. So it's not under warranty anymore. I OC'd the card with afterburner, do you think I did something wrong ? I raised the power limit to the max, +134mhz on the core and +100/150mhz on the memory (but I think it was +100), did not touch the voltage and the temp were great imo. In 2560x1080p high preset in BF1 the card was around 68/74 °C depending on ambient room temp. (BF1 was the most demanding game I played, I played Heroes of the Storm or Diablo as well but it was defenitly not pushing hard on the gpu.) The system is a Ryzen 2600, Dark Rock 4, X470 F-Gaming (bios set to perfomance mode), 2x8Go Ripjaws V 3200Mhz ("xmp" profil enabled), GTX980, 2HHD & 1 SSD and EVGA 650GQ as power supply. 4x140mm + 1x120mm fans for airflow inside a Phanteks P400. If I forget to mention some data please let me know, also, for the same price I can either have a Seasonic Focus+ 650W (platinum) or a Focus 750W (gold). What do you think would be best, I'm planning to buy either a Vega 56 or 1070Ti around Christmas. Thank for reading. ?

Hi everybody,I bought the IDCOOLING Frostflow 240G for my GTX980 few years ago.Recently I found that I used to plug connectors on the CHA_FAN,and it just can't monitor the GPU temp to control the speed. The official document just said connect it to 4pin D connector(idk if that it's called D connector). Is there anyway to control the speed?like plug to the GPU onboard connector?btw I can't find the pins on the GPU,maybe it's under the cooler Thx:)

So im planning on buying a used RX 570 or a GTX 970. but for a few months I will be having to use it with my old mobo, which is an Asrock G41M-S3. As this mobo is about 10 years or more old, will it bottleneck the performance of the GPU or maybe even not support it?

Hello all, I have had a GTX 980 for about 5 years now. For over half that time I have been having this issue. When gaming my screen will randomly crash to the black screen that shows that its on but nothing is plugged in. CTRL ALT delete and nothing else works- the only thing I can do is hold the power button to hard reset. It is almost always random but with the Witcher 3 it would happen in certain spots over and over which would impede my progress. This did allow me to film what was happening, though. Here is a link to a minute long video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5DvMXQ6cZHc&t=2s It does not happen when watching videos or browsing the internet, only when gaming probably about every hour. Namely the Witcher 3, GTAV, Fallout 4, modded Skyrim, Assassins Creed Origins and others. So seemingly newer, high end games but I have 100 plus hours on Red Red Redemption 2 and if it ever happened it was only once or twice where I don't remember. I have changed power supplies, cords, and monitors. I have swapped in my buddies 980TI and it did not crash so I don't think its the motherboard. I have upgraded from windows 7 to 10 and done fresh installs of each. I have the most recent driver always but have experimented with older drivers. It is not overheating- it usually sits in the low 70s at load and idles in low 40s. The only thing that does work is using MSI afterburner to underclock the card and move all of the dials all the way to the left. I don't think it has ever crashed when I do this but it irks me because I'm deliberately holding back what is supposed to be a performance product. The only things I can think of that I have not tried are changing the thermal paste- which I am doubtful about because temps seem fine- and using a non-HDMI port/cord, which would suck if it were the case because I use my TV which only does HDMI. I have been dealing with this for years and if anyone has any possible solution I would greatly appreciate it! The rest of my PC specs are below: Gigabyte Z97X-UD3H-BK motherboard Intel 4690k CPU OC'd to 4.3 EVGA GTX 980 FTW ACX 2.0 16GB G.Skill ram at 2133 Samsung EVO SSDs

Starting a new job here pretty soon and wont be home nearly as much. Decided I needed a mobile gaming solution and bought a laptop. That means its time to sell the Desktop, I'm just not sure where to price it. Despite it starting to see a bit of age, it still sees 60+ FPS @ 1080p res on nearly everything I throw at it. My EVGA GTX 980 SC ACX 2.0 card failed after 2.5 years of moderate usage. I filled out RMA and in couple weeks received my replacement from EVGA Taiwan. Brand new GTX 980 SC ACX 2.0 with Q.C. OK sticker on it. Didn't experience any issues at first. However couple days later GPU started artifacting when idling and during light PC usage. Browsing/Discord etc. with hardware acceleration enabled would cause GPU to freak out. I thought it could might incompatibility of driver for hardware acceleration during low boost state and adjusted Nvidia Control Panel settings accordingly. All started working fine. Managed to get 1500 Mhz stable OC with 4001 Mhz on the memory. Until I rebooted my PC. As soon as Nvidia drivers start initializing on boot or Windows login screen GPU starts artifacting. Works fine when under load or if I enable high performance mode within EVGA software. However seems like switching between lower boost state modes is what causes artifacts. I tried different hardware, including swapping out boot drive, PSU, pci cables and just switching to completely different PC. Other GPUs work fine in my build. This is very strange behavior and I am can't get my head around how this GPU could make through quality control. I wonder if I could fix the issue by modifying GPU BIOS. Is there a way to add voltage to low power state modes or disable clocking below 540 Mhz or disabling P08 and P05 boost states at all. From my observations seems like artifacts happen when GPU tries to jump from P08 (135Mhz) to higher boost states. Nothing when under load. No crashes in games or benchmarking software. https://imgur.com/a/gQtQJ

Hey guys, I just bought a new TV, the Samsung UE75MU7000. I connected this to many things, one of which is my computer. It has a GTX980 in it. I also have Plex and Netflix. I want to play both from my computer to the screen and not the native apps because I like to watch things faster than 1x speed and sadly this isn't possible in any native app on the TV. What I've noticed is, when I use plex and play it in the webplayer on my computer, displaying on the TV (set to 4k resolution) it is very choppy. Audio desyncs completely, even at 1x speed it's hard for it to follow. The image just can't keep up with the speed. When I use Netflix at 1.5x speed it can follow, audio never desyncs, I just don't get 4k (I think because the internet is not fast enough but I doubt that too). Could this problem be because I have a GTX980? All posts I find talk about gaming on 4k, but I'm not gaming, just showing. I doubt the GTX980 is not strong enough to drive a 4k TV but I honestly don't know what the problem could be. Does anybody have any idea? Kind regards.

Hello, there I think that my GPU might be dying..There are multiple different symptoms, which might be caused by different things, but the recent one made me think that it is probably the GPU. Full specs: CPU: i7 4790k (not overclocked at the moment) MB: ASUS Z97 Sabertooth Mark S GPU: Galax GTX980 HOF (it was overclocked for a very short period of time) RAM: Kingston DDR3 HyperX Fury 1866MHz (4 sticks x 4 Gb) PSU: Thermaltake Toughpower XT Platinum 1275W Snow Edition Storage: SK hynix SH910 - OS, Samsung 850 EVO - games, WD Black - storage Dual monitor setup. Both connected by DP. Symptoms: 1) A few month ago, my PC started to shutdown randomly, while gaming. This was caused by ASUS anti-surge protection. I've done some googling and turned it off in UEFI. Might not be the smartest thing to do... 2) After that it was OK for a few month. And then...Sudden PC freezes while gaming. Complete system freeze with a crazy sound loop, keyboard and mouse are not functioning. Sometimes even the reset button is not working, so I have to hold the power button to shut down. The game itself is not demanding. It is an ~8 years old MMORPG. This happens more often that the next 2 symptoms; 3) Nvidia drivers stopped responding...First both monitors go black, then a couple of seconds later everything is back to normal. Sometimes it does not go back to normal. Primary monitor which has a game on is still black, while the secondary one is OK; 4) Pixelation thing (artifacts?) that can be seen on a screenshot below. It only happens on a primary monitor, which displays a game. I can still play the game, restarting the game brings it back to normal. What I've tried so far: 1) Different driver versions - 385, 353, 362. I've been using DDU to remove the drivers before installing another version. 2) Remove braided PSU extensions and connect GPU power directly using original PSU cables. While doing so, I found out that 2 pins on an 8-pin connector were 2-3mm off. For better understanding, I've made a reconstrucion of how it was and took a photo: I plugged everything properly and this fixed a problem for a whole day. Then it came back again =) Also, I noticed that there was a single power cable for 2x8-pin power connectors. So I decided to try and use 2 separate 8-pin cables; 3) Swapping GPU. So I took GTX960 from another PC and it worked for 1-2 hours without any problems. Probably will test it for a couple of days next time, I shall also put my GPU in another PC and see what happens there; 4) Increasing GPU voltage in MSI afterburner. Did not help; 5) Decreasing GPU clock in MSI afterburner. Did help for a few hours; 6) Cleaned the GPU rad and fans, re-applying the thermal compound. So...Is it really dying? =( And how could I know for sure?

Hello people:) I am thinking of getting a new GPU into my computer and i am bit stuck with 3 GPU i can choose.. I currently have a MSI GTX 760 4gb Gaming OC edition (OCed myself even further) in my system. Now i was wondering what i the best GPU i should buy for what i am planning on playing: BF4.BF1,Arma and that are mostly the tough games i play on my system. I got the option to get a : RX 480, GTX 1060 or GTX 980 i'll be gaming on a single 1920x1080 60Hz 1ms AOC monitor of 23,6 inch. Got same AOC as second monitor but this one isnt connected to my GPU but to my motherboard. RX 480 = Sapphire Radeon RX 480 NITRO+ 4G for about 260 Euro / 290 USD GTX 1060 = Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1060 G1 Gaming 6G for about 315 Euro / 350 USD GTX 980 = MSI GeForce GTX 980 GAMING 4G for about 300 euro / 335 USD I will most likely be remain gaming on 1080p 60Hz for the upcomming few years. Other computer specifications: I7 4790K OCed to 4,5Ghz 16GB DDR3 Ram at 1600Mhz 2x 250GB ssd 1x 2TB HDD 450W Power supply Thx for replying!!:)

Greetings, So I have an issue with my dual monitor setup, where my main screen is a 144hz 27" 1440p G-Sync display, and my secondary monitor is a 60hz 27" 1080p display (for GPU I have a GTX 980). Whenever I play games on my main screen and I try to for example watch a video on the other monitor, my game becomes extremely laggy, my fps drops really low. I noticed that by having both my monitors plugged in to the GPU I would fix this problem, however whenever I play highly demanding games I feel like having both monitors plugged in to my GPU takes away from its performance. Is there a way for me to reach stable solution so that I wouldn't have to mess with my cables in order to get the most comfortable experience? TLDR; 60hz monitor plugged in to the motherboard and 144hz plugged in to the GPU, with video playing on 60hz monitor and a game on 144hz monitor = huge FPS drop.

I want to upgrade my PC to a custom hard-line WC loop, but I have no idea if the 980 Xtreme Gaming 4GB has a compatible PCB with the EK-FC980 GTX WF3 / G1? I know there is no XG, Only for the 980ti. Are there any other brands (Koolance) that make WBs that are compatible with the 980 Xtreme Gaming? If the Windforce 3x / the G1 Gaming one fits that will be so good. If not I will have to give up. And wait for the 980 XG.
