I'm currently looking at a new GPU. I'm stuck between the GTX 960 and the R9 290. Any help?

Hey guys! I'm going to be building my pc on a cheap budget, and it includes an AMD Athlon X4 860k, and a Nvidia Geforce GTX 960. This build is mainly prioritizing the graphics card. I was wonder if the 860k would bottleneck the 960. Let me know if it will! Thanks, CorbettHD!

My Benq Rl2455HM has run perfectly since I got it, but I still have a couple of issues that I need help resolving. I haven't been able to get the settings to look right for months, and there is a weird ghosting effect that happens whenever I scroll (with Middle Click) or game. I'm using a gtx 960 and I definitely have the latest nvidia drivers. The ghosting won't go away, no matter of fps or other software settings, so I'm not sure what the problem is. My monitor settings are: Brightness: 90 Contrast: 55 Sharpness:7 AMA: High Instant Mode: On Senseye: Off Dynamic Contrast: Off Overscan: Off and HDMI RGB Range set to full. How can I fix this annoying ghosting? and any recommendations for more pleasant settings?

Hey Guys! I'm planning to get a new rig soon and I was looking around the GPU section. I've been wondering if its worth to get a GTX970 over a 4GB GTX960 if it means sacrificing a 120$ from my fixed budget. That would mean no SSD and stock cooler on the CPU if I do it now. As the 4GB GTX960 I would like to get the Gigabyte one with the 2X Windforce cooler. If I would pick up a GTX970 I don't know which one yet but probably one of the MSI ones. Also as upgradeability I thought if I will ever need more GPU performance I would pick up an other one of it and run it in SLI. If would have a bigger budget I probably would pick up a 970 but to get that much money it would mean to wait until at least Christmas. I could also get everything except the GPU and roll with my GTS450 till I get the money but that seams a bit weird.

Hi all, I've built a mini-ITX gaming PC (actually not for gaming, but for 3D modeling). It is based on Silverstone's SG13 case. Part list (please see attached image): CPU: Intel Core i5-4690 CPU cooler: stock Motherboard: Asus H97I-PLUS Mini ITX Case: Silverstone Sugo SG13B Mini ITX Front fan: Noctua NF-S12A PWM PSU: Silverstone SX500-LG I'm really happy with the result - so far everything runs cool and quiet. Now I want to add a GPU card and I'm debating between these two: GTX 750 Ti GTX 960 The GTX 960 is much more powerful (almost twice as much, as far as I can understand), but I want the PC to stay cool and quiet. TDP for the GTX 960 is twice as much as the GTX 750 Ti, so I guess it produces much more heat and noise, which might be a problem for such a small case, am I right? I don't want to replace the air cooling (front fan, Noctua) with a liquid one (is liquid cooling only for over-clocked CPU?). What would you recommend? Thanks for your advice, EZ

I am looking for a place to crash in Boston MA, close to brookline area from 19 aug to 31 August 2015. I will be studying in Boston university, and I need a place to stay temporarily. My lease starts on 1st sep, so I need a place to sleep.. anything, a couch or a shared bed will also do. I've been through multiple online resources looking for some affordable place.. but it seems a 250$ giveaway would be cheaper.. doesn't hurt to try lol.

I have the Asus STRIX GTX 960 2GB card with the AMD FX6300 processor and 8GB RAM. Runs CS:GO on full settings (except for MSAA which is on 2x which translates to 4x MFAA) at around 130FPS. However I get the occasional FPS drop down to about 30fps. Only happens for about 1 second at a time but it is extremely annoying. It always seems to happen in the same places on a map. I have the latest graphics and audio drivers and have disabled core parking. Anyone have any ideas as to what it could be?

Hello community! I found local deals for a GTX 960 4GB card. One is from PALIT www.palit.biz/palit/vgapro.php?id=2464 And the other one is from MSI www.msi.com/product/vga/GTX-960-GAMING-4G.html#hero-overview The thing is they have a difference of around 30 US Dollars(when i convert from my currency), with PALIT being the cheaper one. The question is, what do i get for the extra 30 bucks should i go for MSI? They both have the GPU and same amount of VRAM, both have non-reference cooling... The MSI looks arguably better with a backplate and an LED lighting thingy. But im gonna put it on a closed case with no window so looks are not that relevant to me. Which would you choose? And also i dont have experience with PALIT never heard of them until recently... anyone tried Palit already? Is it a good brand?

Hi all. I have looked all over the web to see if a 960 G1 Gaming will fit in the Air 240. I know the specified maximum length for a graphics card is 290mm, where the G1 Gaming is 295mm. It would seem to not fit if I had a 240mm radiator in there, but I will be getting a 120mm radiator in the top position. Could someone help me out with this annoying reoccurring issue that always pops in my head when I think about this case. If anyone has this card in a Air 240, could you please post a photo? Thank you in advance.

Hi guys, my question is simply this: do you guys think, the 4gb ASUS strix version of the GTX960 will be compatible with my current Gigabyte Intel Z68 Express Chipset Motherboard(intel). I'm just contemplating what to upgrade first, (ram, cpu, mboard) or gpu. I just want to play GTAV! The 960 is replacing a 570, and nothing else is changing for now, ram is staying the same at 8gb 1600mhz hyper x and cpu 2600k i7. My psu is true power 600w which should be sufficient. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Also: on a side, note, Can I reuse my water cooler? I have a antec Kuhler 620. I should be able to just scrape off the thermal paste right? Thanks!

Hello! I am upgrading my GTX 660 to an R9 280X and I want to know if my PSU will be alright with it. Here are what will be my specs: Intel Pentium G3258 @ 4GHz 2x4gb G.Skill DDR3 RAM R9 280X (http://www.newegg.co...N82E16814202125 or http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150678 havent decided) Antec VP450F 450W PSU (http://www.newegg.co...N82E16817371045) 1 HDD 1 SSD 5 Case fans, two with LEDS 1 Network Adapter The card needs an 8 pin but I would just use a molex to 8 pin, I have no problem with those. My PSU it apparently rated pretty well, but idk. I also looked at the different calculators and both said 430W for me. I would love some expert advice to make sure I'm not going to fry my system. A new PSU would set me back a month or two on the upgrade, but if I need it, then I guess its what it is.

i'm in the slow (as i get the money) process of updating my rig http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/303717-old-heart-new-body-1st-build/ i've had a small windfall and am thinking of upgrading my graphics card - an ASUS GT630. while i'm keen to get the GTX960, which i can get right now, or wait (and save for a couple of weeks) and get a GTX970. my concern is if either will still run in a pcie2.0 x16 slot?? i'm thinking either should run, just with a lot of throttle, but still better than my GT630. as per the build log, i'm looking to upgrade the mobo, cpu, & ram in the not to distant future, but am hoping the graphics card will be a significant bang for the buck performance boost in the current system :-)))) would appreciate your input/guidance :-)))))

I am currently saving up to build a new PC and I am almost at my goal amount of money. I have researched the parts I will use, but I have one question. I am using the Corsair Air 240 as a case and the ASUS Strix GTX 960 for a graphics card. I noticed a great amount of tallness to the graphics card and wondered if it would fit in the small, micro ATX Air 240. If it will fit (and I hope it will), then great! If not, I was wondering if any of you guys could recommend another 960 that might fit and possibly a different micro ATX case (but I really like the Air 240 so it will take quite a bit of convincing). And I know most would say "Oh, but Exploded, you can get more power for the price with this random AMD card that is 20 dollars more than your 960 but will completely dominate it in benchmarks!!!1!" But, my reply to that is yes, I know that you can get more power with an AMD card for $20 more. However, I suffer from a very serious disease called "NVIDIA fanboy-ism". I like their drivers, their shadowplay, their shield, and even how they name their graphics cards and all of my other cards have been NVIDIA as well. So if the STRIX card were not to fit and another card would, I would like for it to be another 960 or other similarly priced and powerful NVIDIA card. Thanks in advance!

HI! The begining of the problem was discussed in this topic: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/311404-gpu-installing-problem-new-build/ However, the situation has changed a lot since. Problem in brief: I get no video signal from my graphics card (newly built machine). I tested the system with a generic graphics card and it worked fine thus the motherboard and PCIe slot is fine. I Tested my GTX960 on another system and got video signal ONLY from one of the DVI ports, yet that allowed me to use monitor and by extention download drivers. After driver installation all of the GTX960 ports gave video signal which indicates that the graphics card is fine. By changing default video output to integrated graphics in BIOS I was able to boot in my OS (windows 8.1) while the graphics card was still in PCIe slot. This allowed me to install drivers for it and after that it showed up in device manager, however, if I try to enable it the system automatically goes to blue screen with error "DRIVER_OVERRAN_STACK_BUFFER" and reboots. This happens also if I disable integrated graphics first. If I set default graphics output back to PCIe (in BIOS) again I get no video signal even though the drivers for graphics card are installed. Note: I wrote to gigabyte costumer support about the initial problem (everything befor getting drivers installed on my system) and they suggested that I need to reflash my VGA BIOS using their @BIOS utility. Yet I was unable to do that because this utility couldn't detect any graphics card on my system even though GTX960 was listed in device manager (dissabled since enabling causes the mentioned blue screen error). I am troughly losst in what to do since all the hardware seems to be fine on its own thus no point in returning it yet I still can't get any video signal from my graphics card. Any and all help would be grately appreciated!

So I'm about to get a 960... and I don't know which one to pick! The MSI and EVGA are pretty much the same price here in Israel, and the Gainwood one is about 10% cheaper (an equivalent of 25$ cheaper) which one should I get? EDIT: Don't suggest the ASUS Strix, that's the one I wanted at first but it was way too expensive.

I have a R9 280, should i upgrade to a GTX 960. Or would it be pointless ?

Okay, right now I am running a modest rig. I have an intel celeron G530, a puny 2.4ghz general use CPU. I have a small, foxconn barebones mobo with a single PCI 16 slot, 8 gb of value ram, and GTX 750 Ti. I can run 360 level games even better than the 360. I have no problems with Bioshock 1 and 2 and the new Resident Evil REremake. But my thirst power is insatiable now.... but while on a budget. My budget is limited to $800 USD. Things I don't need are windows and a case. I have a perfectly serviceable SSD, and if I got another I would get the same one again so there's no lost speed. First, for the CPU I have chosen the Intel Core i5-4690K. I did some research (didn't have to go far ) and learned the K was for overclocking so I knew I wanted to start dabbling with that! At about $220 I can get one of these. But the CPU is one area of confusion for me. I never really know what to get that will fit in with my system. I still don't fully understand how to match a CPU to a GPU and RAM. CPU - 220, Total - 220 I know I will need a cooler for that, I will pick one. Cooler - Flex budget for left over money. Next is the motherboard, which I chose MSI Z97-G45 Gaming ATX LGA1150 Motherboard. I wanted to get this at around 120. It seems to have enough features for me and hey, it fits the CPU I want. Lots of ports. It's red, but my case is green... Oh well. I like christmas. MOBO - 120, Total - 340 For my RAM I chose a single stick of the fastest 8gb stick compatible with my system, can get another one later. RAM - 80, Total - 440 For my powersupply I chose best one for about $70, it's 550W. PSU - 70, Total - 510 Now for the GPU I just saw the ones Nvidia came out with and I decided I wanted one  $200- $250 seems too good to be true for this performance so I chose MSI GTX 960 GAMING 2G. I don't know what the difference is between this and the 100ME is but if someone could explain it I will buy it, because it matches my case better... GPU - 220, Total - 730 Here's a link to PCpartpicker formula: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/9FjQgs So I could spend the rest of the money on a cooler, about $70, if I need more I will spend more to keep my system safe. So what do you guys think? will I get the next gen, GTX 960 experience with this build or will I just end up with another modest, albeit high tiered, gaming rig? I still very new to the PC scene, but I am already loving it. If you're planning a new build with the 960 or other 900 card what kind of CPU are you/would you go with? Thanks guys

I have a ASUS GTX 970 Stix and have overclocked it at stock voltage to 1504MHZ(+200MHZ) boost clock stable and 4001MHZ (+500MHZ) and the temperatures don't go above 70C. I want to know if these are good overclocks and is it safe to be running these overclocks for around 3 months as I wanna play heavily modded Skyrim.
