I recently downsized my first build from a Corsair 760T to a Corsair Air 240 case to make it more compact/portable (should have done this originally... 1st build so opted for 'easy' ATX build). I have an EVGA GTX780 (ACX SC cooled)... here's my current build... with another GTX780 added: http://au.pcpartpicker.com/p/yTG9sY I didn't intend to run 2 x GPU in SLI when I downsized, but I may be able to buy another GTX780 (exact same card as mine) at a reasonable price... so would like some advice on whether it's a good idea - I can't justify replacing my 780 with a newer card (eg. 980) but if I can pick up another matching 780 for ~ $200 it seems like a good option to keep my games at Ultra for longer. I've only just rebuilt in my Air 240 and am waiting on 2 x AF120 (high performance) fans to replace the stock top exhaust fan........ ran Unigine Heaven benchmark and GPU maxed out at 77C (ambient ~23C)... I expect an improvement of some sort with the new fans. CONCERNS Is my 850W PSU suitable? (PC Part Picker shows a max. draw of ~711W for my build with SLI) I haven't OC'd the CPU yet... but would like to be able to hit ~4.0 to ~4.4GHz... how much power use does this add? Will the cards run too hot due to the smaller case... or cooler due to sharing the GPU load (SLI guide seems to indicate this)? Gene VII says it supports SLI... any issues here? I've seen a couple of benchmarks (synthetic and games like Metro Last Light) which show ~80% improvement in scores / FPS... seems like a win. Only concern is if the 3GB VRAM will start to be an issue if games push this more in future. Any feedback is appreciated.

So I am so very close to pulling the trigger on a 1440p G-Sync monitor. It would be awesome to get an ultrawide but I think that's a bit ways off. So is 4K at the moment for me. Right now I'm using a Samsung SyncMaster P2770HD 1080p 60Hz 32" TV. It's good for console gaming but I cannot wait for the day that I don't have to keep VSync enabled on PC and I mainly game on PC these days anyways. I'm stuck though. Buy the monitor now or wait till near the end of the year for sales. Are there good sales on top tier monitors or do they usually keep the $600-$850 value/price? I am also unsure if I should buy it now or wait till I build a new rig sometime next year with an i7 and GTX 1080(or Ti), etc.. With Pascal should we expect some update to the g-sync technology or is it going to stay how it is for a while still? Monitors have been getting superb the past few years but it seems they are slowing down a bit. If I buy now then that will prolong when I will be able to build my new rig and there may be something better by that point as well. At the same time it's getting harder and harder to hold off on a 1440p G-Sync. My current rig won't like it very much though: i5 2500K, 8GB RAM, GTX 780, Samsung EVO 480 SSD and I don't want to incrementally upgrade anymore. I will have more frame dips playing on 1440p than what I currently have on 1080p but the G-sync will help with that and I won't have to worry about capping the frame rate with v-sync on Overwatch or whatever else. So I need some advice on what one or two good G-Sync monitors there are(I know ASUS ROG is pretty solid), and if I should hold back till end of year sales or closer to when I build my Pascal rig next year, or if it's pretty safe to purchase now. What do you think? Thanks for you input!

Who aged better -- Kepler or Hawaii? The two former top-end architectures from 2013 have received different treatment over the their lifespan. While Nvidia simply moved along with a new GPU architecture (Maxwell), AMD's GCN have seen much less revolutionary changes, with only iterative architectural upgrades from Tahiti to the latest HBM-powered Fiji GPUs. AMD were definitely forced to spend time with the driver optimizations instead, with some notable effects. -- TL;DR -- Source: http://www.babeltechreviews.com/nvidia-forgotten-kepler-gtx-780-ti-vs-290x-revisited/view-all/

Hello everybody, Virtual Reality is coming next year and I want to be part of it. My current rig includes an i7 4790k, 8gb of ram and a GTX 780. According to Oculus, I have to upgrade to a GTX 970 to be able to run the Rift. Since Black Friday is this week, should I upgrade now or wait a few months in case there's a new GPU providing a better bang for the buck for VR?

When I use 3Dmark/Heaven to test my GPU, GPU Tweak says the card is running at a max of 575mhz. The base clock on the card is 941mhz and I had it OC @ 1155mhz. I removed the OC and its still maxing out at 575mhz. I just upgraded to windows 10 and upgraded my monitor to the Asus pg278q 2560x1440 Computer specs below, Thanks for all your help I7-4790k @ 4.6mhz Asus Sabertooth Z97 MB Dominator Platnum 16bg@ 1866 Asus GTX 780 GPU Samsung 840 250gb SSD X2 Windows 10

Hi guys, I recently, around christmas time traded in my old graphics card (r9 290), and purchased a 780 at a CEX store. Issue is, ever since i've been wondering what make my card is.. EVGA, Asus etc. It is the reference cooler, but it doesn't say anywhere on the card to my knowledge. Is there a way to find out? In windows or anything?

Hi Have one gtx 780 oc already and I can buy another one for around 300€. I also have the PC fully prepared for SLI. I dont need the extra power right now, but Im wondering if I should upgrade like this for future games like Star Citizen or VR. I could wait for the next generations cards with HBM... but 300€ seems a good deal. What do you guys think?

I currently own a gtx 780 and as christmas is coming up I decided on upgrading my GPU. So the thing is, which one should I choose? (SLI is an option! but is 3GB GDDR5 enough?) [my system specs] -i5 4570 -16GB RAM -Corsair RM 750 (psu) Things I do on my PC: Mainly gaming (BF4, BF3, Battlefornt, StarWars TheOldRepublic) and sometimes some Map rendering (but my 780 is already overkill for the maprendering) My monitor is from LG [2560x1080, 60Hz IPS]. And no I won't buy a TitanX or a Fury X! And I do not care if AMD or Nvidia the only thing that matters is performance Thanks in advance!

Hello! I want to buy Gigabyte GTX 780 OC and a i7-4790k. I currntly has OCZ 550W fatal1ty power supply. I want to know if it will be enough or I need to buy a new PSU? I will keep everything on stock. P.S I'm doing kind of scarpyard war, so what do you think about this build this far: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/ftpsgs ? Thanks, Tamir

Greetings! I want to see your opinions on this subject : Should I make a move for GTX 980 from my current GTX 780 ? I know that there is no such thing as "FUTUREPROOFING" in this PC world so I'm looking at this matter strictly from economics/market point of view where my GTX780 still have some value and price at this current moment and maybe this is the right time to make a move, sell GTX780 and step on GTX980 or am I completely wrong?

Hi My specs are: CPU: i7 2600K stock GPU: ASUS gtx 780 directcu ii oc SLI (not working) PSU: Cooler Master v1200 MOBO:ASUS sabertooth p67 (does support SLI) SSD:Samsung EVO 850 256GB HDD: 2TB samsung. CPU cooler: H60 So i just got a second ASUS gtx 780 directcu ii oc for my system. First i check if my old graphics card work in both PCI-e slots, it does. Then i proceed to do the same with my new card, and it works as well. Then i plug both in, attach the SLI-bridge and boot the system. When i get to the desktop nvidia control panel prompts me with a text saying my system is SLI-ready, so i go to the driver and select maximize 3D performance and before hitting apply the driver says everything is fine, and GPU-z detects both cards in my system with all data available, even device manager in Windows recognizes my cards. When I press apply my screen starts flickering (as it should) but after that the screen goes black. I can still move my mouse, but it is on top of a black screen and it is flickering. Nothing more happens, tried to let it stay in black screen for 2-3 hours, nothing happend. Then i took one card out, and everything was fine so i removed the driver completly, rebooted, installed the latest driver 353.49, and did the process again, the end result is unchanged. I have tried updating my old card to the newest BIOS for the revision (A1), and do the entire thing again, does not help. The other card is revision B1 so it uses a different memory manufacturer, should that be a concern? I have also tried cecking if my ram is a problem by only running with 1 stick, 2 sticks and 3 sticks, does not help. I also tried resetting BIOS on my MOBO, did nothing, tried different PCI-e power cabels, did not help. Im out of ideas even nvidia support could not help me any further. So do you guys have an idea of what is wrong?

Ok, so since I follow Linus and his followers seem to be quite clued up I thought I'd join the forum because I want to gather some opinions/facts regarding case fan speed and airflow having an effect on GPU temps. Basically, I've been running my PC in a Car00GTXbide Air 540 for some time now and I've been using the corsair sp120 fans and a 140 in the exhaust. My GPU's are 2 gtx 780 reference design. I have quite an extreme fan profile, I like my GPU to run as cool as possible so in game the fans are generally kicking at 90%. I don't mind the noise as I use a headset. Playing under full load in Far Cry 4 they tend to run at about 75-79c (bearing in mind I am running in Sli.) I just added the little voltage reduction things onto my fans to see if there was a dramatic difference in performance and noise etc... SO now my fans are running at slower speeds and moving less air but my GPU's are still running at 90%, the odd thing is my temps under load are now considerably lower 55-73c. I want to know why and if it is possible that high airflow can actually pull air away from the GPU fan enough to have a negative impact on thermal performance. Cheers, James

Couple of months back i purchased a backplate at Canada Computers... Finally got around to it. Installed it on the gtx 780 video card. Straight forward installation. Took about 30 mins. Remember to use the screws that came with the backplate. system looks proper with the backplate - gives it a finished look. Cheers!

Hey guys! first time poster long time watcher. Today I had the fun project of strapping a Kraken G10 to my GTX 780 SC, and so far it's looking good. I get around 48-50C on load with a Kraken x41 (higher than other temps but maybe my room temp and the lack of static pressure fans might have something to do with it) and it was a rather easy install. I do have one concern, and that would be the VRM's Thanks to an awesome post here by Faceman http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/232654-kraken-g10-help/ I was able to hit the ground running and made the part picking and install super easy. Though one part of his post confused me when I finally got into the card to install the little VRM coolers he recommended. I coulden't find any solid information but what part of the card is actually the VRM's? To me it looked as if the gray bits with the large surface area made an excellent spot to place the little heat sinks, but over time it's making me worry that I might have placed them on the wrong part! The original graph he posted looks like this: The red marks are a bit misleading as they are pointing to underneath the heat spreader. I found a pic of the card without the heat spread and it reveals a series of chips where his red squares are but the red square in the middle is missing and that leads to further confusion I whipped up my own image to help explain which one (red or blue) are the VRM's? or are neither of them VRM's. If so what are they? and are the VRM's the little chips he was pointing to in the original shot? (I put my heat sinks on the red portions) Thanks!

Good evening tech community, first off, I am not a native speaker, please go easy on my spelling/grammar/etc mistakes. So I've had this issue, that I will come to later, for a while now. This morning I was close to killing myself over it, until this "5K Imac" video of linus released decent amounts of adrenaline to keep me from ending my life - and also brought me the idea to give the community a shot, that linus admire so much. 1. This is what happened To start things off, my system specs: CPU: i7-4770K GPU: MSI 780 Lightning PSU: Corsair RM 850W MB: MSI Z87 MPOWER RAM: 16GB Corsair Vengeance Black (running XMP) Storage: 128GB Samsung 830 SSD, 1TB WD OS: Windows 7 64 Bit Service Pack 1 The Computer has been running in this configuration for at least 6 Months (Stable, no crashes / errors / issues whatsoever). No changes in hardware have been made whatsoever. However it should be noted, that the harddrives (and os) are from a previous build which used an i5-3550 and a asus gtx 660. This previous build was stable for almost a year, until I upgraded everything but the harddrives. Although online folks told me differently, I could just plug in the harddrives and boot into windows with all my old folders / layout / data without any issues. Once again: NO CRASHES for at least 6 months straight. I used MSI Afterburner 4.0 with my MSI card. Also installed the MSI VGA Fan Tool which was made for the 780 Lightning, mainly to control that noisy ass fucking useless middlefan. Good knows why there is a fan in front of a metal plate with no cooling fins. Everything worked flawlessly. Then, about 4 Weeks ago, Afterburner suddenly told me it couldn't connect to the update server (See attachments). It also stopped recognizing my GPU and Gpu driver along with all temperature checkpoints on the card. It only showed Windows Ram usage. MSI VGA fan control didn't pop an error message, but also managed to stop working . Neither afterburner nor vga fan control can be adjusted anymore (see attachments). Fuck. Now the middlefan ramps up like a little b**** when playing games. What used to be my beloved near silent 1500€ killer gaming/edeting/working machine turned into a damn jet turbine. Could've had this much cheaper. Then I tried out EVGA Precision x16. Surprisingly, It worked. It showed some graphs regarding the gpu (I am not sure if power consumption and gpu clock are the only two that can be displayed, or if the others are hidden in some submenu). The fan control regulates one fan controller (The two big fans on the left and right), however not the second one (The yellow noisy middlefan). This smaller one still turns up like hell in video games. Precision x16 gave me an error this morning saying it couldn't connect to the internet. It could again after a reboot - afterburner still denies its services. 2. This is what I've done so far as mentioned, installed precision x to see if it might be due to gpu (but it is prooven that it isnt, right?) reinstalled EVERYTHING MSI related (tried to) reinstall everything nVidia related (after reboot, an old driver automatically installed itself .. dont know how that happened. maybe the pc took it from the downloads folder?) Just for the heck of it and in between steps rebooted the pc millions of times contacted MSI support twice: First guy told me to dump my pc and buy a new desktop from the MSI website (S***er)  Second guy was a lot nicer. Told me to reinstall stuff, update stuff, clean regestry, and then to reinstall windows I did everything he said but to reinstall windows. I even used a regestry cleaning tool, although internet told me otherwise (I is said to be really unsafe). However, I dont feel like I did it properly. searched the web forever, however no one seems to have my certain issue updated everything (got my hands on afterburner 4.1 just today, same result : "can't connect to update server") "downdated" everything, used most older versions - still, all tell me they cant reach the update server# 3. Conclusion (about the question) I need to control the noisy middle fan. It is jus not necessary for it to run at 45% since booting (it always did that, and I always turned it down). I dont feel like its a Windows or GPU problem. Why would a problem randomly accur after over six months of problem free use without hardware changes? This doesnt make any sense to me. I think that something is preventing Afterburner from working - in the sense like afterburner needs (at least once maybe) a connection to the internet to varify (that I am not some spammer or anything?), but as it cannot establish a connection, the program locks itself and doesnt work? I mean why else would Precision x work? What could be hindering Afterburner? I really dont want to reinstall Windows. This would mean so much work for me as I really costumized my desktop and OS and file management etc. As I know the least about the regestry, and the nice MSI guy talked about it and cleaning it, I suspect the regestry to be the fault. (?) If you made it until the end, I want to thank you - I dont take it as granted that you take your time to help or even read about my issue. If you've any Solution, or idea, or know someone or know some place or website I could write to, anything - please let me know. Thank y'all so much in advance, yours truly, from the north of Germany, Richard

So I was looking at the specs of the 780 and the 980 earlier as well as the 780ti as I am looking ahead to see what to expect from the 980ti and if itll be worth it or not and came across something I thought was peculiar. Engine Specs GTX 780 GTX 980 Cuda Cores 2304 2048 Base Clock (Mhz) 863 1126 Boost Clock (Mhz) 900 1216 Texture Fillrate (billion/sec) 160.5 144 Memory Specs Memory Speed (Gbps) 6.0 7.0 Standard Memory Config (MB) 3072 4096 Memory Interface GDDR5 GDDR5 Memory Interface Width 384-bit 256-bit Memory Bandwidth (GB/sec) 288.4 224 The bold parts are aspects that are worse on the 980. Why has this been done? Is it Nvidia's way of gimping the 980 so that it isn't as good as the Titan X or the upcoming 980Ti? Also what is expected of the 980Ti?

Hi All, Currently i have an old i7 2600, and a p8p67 motherboard. As most things with computers i have recently upgraded to a GTX780 (phantom GLH edition) from a 6870, and now the 780 is basically obsolete. So, im heading towards a mobo and cpu upgrade. im looking at a i5 4690 or 4670, and here is where it becomes tricky, what bloody motherboard do i get to try and extract the best out of the GTX780? and possibly SLI because i might get a 4k monitor. Are the ASUS Maximus worth it? Z87 v Z97? Sabertooth? Too many decisions........... Also, is it worth SLI'ing or should i get a 980 down the track? Thanks Legends. (also, i dont post here much because i generally find my answer just from reading)

I've got a Cooler Master B600 PSU in my system and I want to upgrade my system with a GTX780. Is this possible with the graphic connectors (PCIe 6+2 2x)? Will this be compatible?

Edit: I use integrated graphics for streaming, could this be the cause? I mean ded graphics and integrated graphics running at the same time? Should be fine but it got me wondering. I use it for Intel Quick Sync. Quite the must for me I7 4770k @4.4Ghz Asus Maximus VI Hero 16Gb RAM 1600Mhz GTX 780 SC ACX in SLI (6GB) Some HDDs and SSDs Okay so, I did figure out one thing already. It's the OC. I tried to ask for help 2 times before but nothing worked out. Kinda repost this. One dude said it was Thermal Throttling as my CPU was overheating in his eyes. This was with the temps I am reaching not the case. In games where I experience this stutter I had a max temp of 73C. Checked this with HW Monitor. Other time I thought it was SLI as this 'desynced; around these stutters. Ran them seperatly and tested the cards in any way, no results/issues found. I did a memtest, also flawless and no issues. (memtest86 that is) When does this happen? Random, but mostly during games. So, system under load you could say. Now this happens in games like BF4, but also Company of Heroes 2, Counter Strik GO, CoD (all versions), WoW and IL2 Sturmovik. Meaning pretty much any game. Some games run on an SSD, others on HDDs Other weird note is, that one I re-did the BIOS with the latest version it stopped for a while, but did come back. I ran completely out of ideas.
