sup ma m8s i want to build a gaming system for my friend within 500$... the following r the reserve parts....dont worry about buying these: -16gb kingston ram(4 sticks of ddr3) -about 3 good fans for cooling -a case -3 TB drive -a CD/DVD hybrid ROM i love the i3 6100... at my local store it costs about 127.68 $ now this is a point where i am confused: about 240$ have been used including the cpu n other stuff remaining stuff is motherboard graphics power my question is: Q1: which graphic card is the best in this range for this cpu? i want gta v to run at 60 fps plus Q2:does motherboard company matter? does a 50$ motherboard differ from a 300$ one? if so..what is the best motherboard i can use? must have 4 ram slots Q3:what is the best TRUSTED power supply that i should use? what should be its power? Q4:does ram company matter? like its a stick of 4 gb ddr3 right? does the company matter? like kingston 4gb ddr3 vs a hot looking 4gb ddr3 ? any difference? i have a 1366x768 monitor...planning to get a 1280x1080 but thats unlikely.... i want the system deliver a good performance....like gta v at 60 fps plus at the resoluton of 1366x768..... a good and graphical bios is preferred :3 PS: in one of linus vidz i saw him admiring a cool and cheap cpu fan...forgot the name i wanna add that to the system if possible...

Hello friendly forum people. I came here looking to choose between i5-6500 and -6600k but the more I read the more doubtful I got, and I wonder if I should be going higher, or if it even makes any difference. I am looking to fill up a new tower with goodies. My primary monitor is 1440p at 144Hz. I prefer running games at the highest settings when possible (obviously not so much for the newest titles). I generally don't want to run in lower than native resolution. If a game doesn't perform at fairly high framerates I will rather sacrifice a bit of pretty to relax my aging eyes. :-) I have picked out a Z170 board and a GTX1080 card. I would likely add another GTX1080 somewhere down the road, as price drops. My question is, which CPU would be reasonable in order to utilise the 144Hz (or as much as possible) for some of the tougher games out there? Thank you for your time. Other basic info: Secondary monitor is 1200x1920@60Hz, not used for gaming. I do not plan to spread to further display, nor to upgrade to 4k any time soon. Gaming is the most demanding thing the machine does. Budget is tertiary. I want a CPU that makes sense with the rest of the build.

I have an MSI GTX1080 Gaming X which is giving me poor performances. I replaced a faulty one and the new one works better but I am still getting low frame rates on every game. I am sure my card is perfect. I think there is something wrong with my settings. I tried to optimize games with the GeForce Experience but it's of no help. Certian settings worsened the performance and certain settings improved it. But I am unable to get frames above 60. Sometimes I do achieve those results where MSI afterburner shows 100+ frames on screen but they don't look like anything above 60. I ran Heaven benchmark on Ultra and got 160 fps. I invested heavily in this setup expecting 100 plus frames on FIFA 17, Battlefield 1, etc. on Ultra settings at 1080p but I think I'm making certain optimization mistakes. (Vsync is on, CUDA cores: All, Power optimization: High performance) My setup: MSI GTX 1080 Gaming X MSI A170 Gaming M5 motherboard Intel core i7 Skylake 6700k 4.00 ghz processor Corsair h110i liquid cooling Kingston 16 gb DDR4 Hyper X RAM Benq XL2411X 1080p 144hz Monitor Corsair 750 watt SMPS Also, my processor shows temperatures of 99 degrees and I'm pretty sure that's not good. Can someone please help me out with the settings? I'm a PC noob who just sold his PS4 and I really need help.

Hi there, New to the LTT forums, so please excuse any inconsistencies. I'm looking to do a water cooling build in a Corsair 900D, 2 loops, 1 for CPU & Mosfet's and the other for my 2 GPU's. The issue I'm having at the moment is that I cant find any distributor's / makers of a GPU water block for my GPU's. I have 2 main questions; 1 - What I'd like to know is; Does anyone know of a company already selling / planning to make GPU waterblocks for my GPU's - 2 x Gigabyte 1080 xtreme editions - http://www.gigabyte.co.za/products/product-page.aspx?pid=5920#kf OR - another solution i could look at the water cool the GPU's Or - A company that will make / is planning to make 2 - I'm definitely going to be using PWM fans (for control and a silent rig) - which fans would you recommend for EKWB's PE ( https://www.ekwb.com/shop/ek-coolstream-pe-480-quad ) edition radiators?( I am specifically referring to these as I can only get my hands on the PE / SE from EK in my country ) planned setup 2 - 480mm EK PE rads - 1 for CPU and MOSFET, the other to be used with the 240/360 for the GPU's 1 - 280/360mm EK PE rad - For GPU loop The Fans I was planning on using is Corsair PWM quiet editions. Thanks in advance, if any additional info is needed, I'll be happy to share more info. Thanks, Nihilum

Hey guys, I have following specs. Intel i7 7700k 4.6Ghz Asus ROG ryou 240 Liquid Cooler Gskill Trident Z RGB 16GB DDR4 3000Mhz Asus ROG Strix Z270E with Wifi and Bluetooth Asus ROG Strix XG27VQ 27" 144Hz Curved monitor Was running CSGO at avg 300-350 FPS at 1080p everything ultra except Global shadow quality at medium and texture filtering at trilinear and fxaa at 2x. Suddenly since 8th sept, FPS never cross 230 and fluctuates in range 130-200FPS along with shuttering. Even if i reduce everything to low at 1080p still same FPS. Everything seems to be running fine. I have tried everything possible to solve it, reinstalling steam and csgo, reinstalling same nvidia driver and older driver, use launch options. Please help me with this.

I have been confused about bottleneck, this day 2019 mostly game are hungry power of gpu. Im using i5 6600 non K processor , i want to upgraded gtx 1080 or rtx 2060 is there any bottleneck? Right now im using gtx 1050ti, before this im using my friend 1080ti about 1-2hours only im testing it on my rig i can see a bottleneck because 100% but with gtx 1080 or 2060 will it bottleneck too?

Hello all, I have a gtx 1080 paired with an FX 8370 and its time to stop this bottleneck, I was wondering what CPU to buy for the best value with good performance. My max budget is 240$ USD for a CPU (motherboard and ram will be supplied by my mom), I've been wondering if I should buy an I5 9600k (I've just been going off UserBenchmarks). I wanna save some money for my mom but I don't wanna sacrifice lots of performance. I just want to play games with decent frames, I don't really want to overclock, (maybe that will damage the processor) I wanna keep this computer good for the next few years. Any help to send me in the right direction will be appreciated.

Hello guys and gals! Long time lurker here, been following build threads on this forum a long time. I decided to make my own thread about my latest custom build. Earlier builds I have done have been with storebought cases, mostly Lian Li cases since I liked their design and build quality alot. Some time ago in 2016 I got a powermac g4 from the early 2000's when a friend of mine cleaned up the house after her father passed away. This macine was immaculate, had sat for lots and lots of years. The harddrive was noisy and the fans were all rattling, but everything was working perfectly-ish. It even came with the original keyboard and one button mouse. I was thinking of using all the internals, except for a new m-atx motherboard for my then i5 4690k/atx msi gaming 5/zotac gtx780/8gb ddr3 1600mhz gaming rig in a huge Lian Li case. But time went by, and the case just sat there, not doing anything. Then it came time to upgrade as the old build (no slouch tho) was beginning to show its age. I then comprised this list of hardware for my powermac build: Cpu: Ryzen 7 2700X Cooler: Corsair H60 120mm AIO Mobo: Gigabyte B450m DS3H Ram: GSkill 3200mhz ddr4 16gb (2x8gb) HDD: 1x samsung 960 evo m.2 nvme (from the old pc) 1x 4tb Seagate 7200rpm (from the old pc) GPU: MSI Gaming X 1080 8gb (bought used from a friend) PSU: 2010 Corsair 1000w semi modular (large type) (from the old pc) And the old Powermac case of course. Here is the old 780 next to the 1080, just to compare the sizes. I was doubtful before going in to this project if I could get that 1080 into the case without problems. First thing I did after cleaning out the old hw from the case was going to the electronics recycling place, to get me a donor pc that I could hack out the mobo tray with standoffs and such to transplant into the g3 case. I decided to try to get the pc as close to unmodified as possible, keeping all the stock look and feel, while modernizing it to be a nice powerful daily driver. First I drilled out all the rivets for the side door to get it separated from the rest of the case, and then removed ther IO panel on the back, to get rid of the strange apple layout. And after a LOT of cutting/measuring/cutting/measuring/drilling/riveting this was the result: I had to redesign it a bit as I hadn't made room for the hinge. But It got done, and I assembled it. Hello, As the title states, I've spent months searching and trying different things/"solutions" and so far nothing worked, I'm getting 150+ FPS in single player and under 100fps in online (60 or less in full public lobbies with 25 players or more) with low GPU and CPU usage (40% max, usually in the 30%'s). Settings: Non-Steam/Social club version of GTA bought from Rockstar store directly 1920x1080 No AA and No FXAA No advanced graphic settings All settings set to normal and/or off, All sliders set to the lowest setting (aka lowest possible graphics settings from inside the game) Hardware: Asus Maximus VI Hero (Z87) with the latest bios 4770k@4.5ghz (Yes, It's stable and max temps are 75c) 16gb (2x8) 1600mhz DDR3 (Yes, They're installed in the correct slots for dual channel with XMP profile set in the bios) GTX 1080 (Installed correctly in the first 16x slot with the latest drivers and stable OC, max temps are 75c) Corsair RM850 (Yes, All the cables connected and seated correctly to the correct ports) Samsung 840Pro SSD which hosts my Windows and GTA Asus VG248QE 144hz 24" 1080p monitor connected via DVI to my GTX 1080 Windows 10 Pro 64bit currently and Windows 8.1 Pro 64bit previously FAQ answers: -Yes, I've cleared cache for both the game and windows and deleted the GTA folder inside the Documents folder. -Yes, I've verified the game files and reinstalled it on the old Windows 8.1 and on a clean Windows 10. -Yes, I'm using the latest drivers for all of my hardware. -Yes, I've tried DDU and older Nvidia drivers. -Yes, I've checked the background processes in case they're eating resources and none of them do other than GTA. -Yes, I've checked the OC settings, Temps, Fans, Fan curves, Bios settings, you name it. -Yes, I'm using high performance power plan. -Yes, I've set it to the power option to max performance in the Nvidia control panel. -Yes, I've set the pre-render frames to 1. -Yes, I've set the Physx to GTX 1080. -Yes, I've tried Windows 10 game mode ON and OFF -Yes, I've tried with Fullscreen, Windowed, Windowed borderless, No FPS difference. -Yes, I've tried V-Sync ON and OFF, No FPS difference in Online but with it Off the game menus lag. -Yes, I've checked my SSD performance and it's fine. -Yes, I've tried disabling hyper threading and it lowered my FPS. -Yes, I've tried all the possible Windows 10 compatibility settings and DPI settings and it only made it worse. -Yes, I've tried DX10, 10.1, 11. Questions: -What the actual fuck? -Are you getting high FPS (120+) in full lobbies? How? What hardware and OS are you using? -Any actual/non-turn it ON/OFF tier solution to this issue?

Hey guys, so a couple months ago I got myself a Kraken G12 with an H80i v2 for my GTX 1080 Armor OC. This, I feel, is an OP cooler for the task as my temps are literally never above 45c on load while my CPU goes upto 65/75. (picture below). I had some heating issues with the stock cooler where it would throttle after 82c on load. Now I have the opportunity to swap out the cooler, maybe use the H80iv2 on my Ryzen 2600 while I use something a little less overpowered and preferably with a bit more flexible tubing. These cables are so Tight I feel like I will tear them off or snap them off the block. Too much stress on the gpu for my comfort. Any users out there with a recommendation for a good 120mm AIO for a kraken+gtx1080? (my current cooler for the 2600 is a Wraith Prism which looks amazing but I might as well have the space H80iv2 on it if I replace the gpus cooler with a new one. I can only put this AIO around and mount it successfully in 1 place in two orientations) Thoughts?

I've overclocked my pc and now that I'm done and I try to swap it to adaptive it just never posts.

Yesterday I bought a new 4k screen ( Asus PB287Q) and when I tried to use the displayport cable it did not give a signal. HDMI works fine, but it has a 30hz limit on 4k.. I have no clue as to what is causing this issue. I've been trying out solutions for a day now and none of them work. I already did a lot of updates and bios settings changes and did the power off thingy too that everyone seems to recommend. I am using a GTX 1080 (gigabyte)

I currently live abroad and will be visiting Canada soon. My current PC could use an upgrade and I managed to sell my Ryzen2600 and Asus B450-I. I got some 450CAD out of it. The rest of my PC is a Gtx1080, Corsair 2x8Gb CL15.3000Mhz and have 650W of EVGA power. I'm looking for a good combo that could get me better performance in gaming. Perhaps a good Intel combo can get me some frames as well as utilize my RAM more with XMP. Any and all suggestions are welcome. Thanks

Hi fellas, I've taken the decision to upgrade to a GTX 1080 (currently having the MSI GTX 1070 Gaming X) due to how the prices on my local market have shifted lately.I've narrowed down my options to two specific offers - an EVGA FTW2 with its iCX technology and abundant RGB, and an MSI Gaming X, which I know too well as a model (and, in fact, am very satisfied with). The EVGA GPU is slightly more expensive, but it's a negligible sum, so let's pretend they're at the same price. Now, ever since EVGA reacted to their ACX problems, I've thought that the FTW2 models were almost perfect and have been wanting to get one of those for better colour coordination inside my case, as the Gaming X looks cool to me, but it's quite limited with it's default red and white configuration. However, what I've read lately has put me off the EVGA FTW2 a little bit. First are reports from reviewers that the EVGA is a bit noisier than the MSI Gaming X under full load and may run a little bit hotter. This is a bit of an issue, as my case is a Fractal Design Define C, which is a bit constrictive as far as airflow goes. If it's 1 or 2 degrees, and 1 or 2 decibels, I guess it's not a big issue, but then I read a review from guru3D slamming the iCX concept as too much over-engineering. The fans on a GTX 1080 FTW2 are reportedly asynchronous, spinning at different RPMs, and sometimes allegedly causing an increase in perceived noise, as well as micro-vibrations in the GPU itself. Is there any merit in this claim? I actually prefer for the GPU fans to run constantly at low-RPM, but keeping the GPU between 30 and 40 degrees Celsius in idle conditions. The last bit of worrying info was that the software, Precision XOC I believe is called, is presumably garbage/unstable and inferior to the MSI Afterburner. Again, is this true, or is it a slam coming from people unhappy with how their overclock results turned out? For the record, I don't plan to overclock at all, I just need it to control fan curves (and hopefully sync both fans to the same RPM and sensor) as well as RGB effects.Would appreciate if anyone has had personal experience with above points, I really dig the visuals on the FTW2, but if it comes at the cost of usability and software frustration down the line, I may just stick with the Gaming X and its limited RGB options. Hello, I currently have two LG ultrawide monitors that are both 2560 x 1080 but one of them is stuck at 1920 x 1080. I have tried setting a custom resolution in the settings of Nvidia but this has not worked. Both monitors were working fine but then I upgraded to the latest driver software and the issue has started. Just wondering if anyone has any ideas on how to put them both back at 2560 x 1080.

For two years I have been building a wall PC. But now I have problems with the hardware and I am seeking your help since I seem to have tried everything and I have no solution. The buildlog of the PC is here so you know how complex it is. You really should take a look there first: https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/744224-wall-pc-build-log/ What’s the problem: - The computer boots normally and works fine without the GPU driver installed. - As soon as the GPU driver (EVGA GTX1080) is installed, the computer crashes either during startup or shortly after login, no error-code or bluescreen. Just black. - PC runs stable in safe-mode (where presumably the GPU driver is not active) What I (and friends) have tried: - Replaced GPU driver with newest driver. Tried Nvidia as well as EVGA driver. - Replaced Win7 with Win10 (works until Win10 is online and updates drivers) - Updated Bios - Tried different monitor - Tried different monitor cables - Tried HDMI / DVI - Disabled on-board intel graphics - Tried RAM in a different PC to check if they are good, they are. - Tried different SSDs - Disconnected all non vital SSDs - Prime95 stress-tested CPU, all good - Tried all PCI-e Raiser cables by themselves and in combination, all good - Completely disconnected the two HD-Plex 250W PSUs and ran entire PC through a regular PSU (see pic), no change. - Borrowed a working GTX970 from Friend, setup with dual PSUs, still crashes. - Put GTX970 in PCI-e Slots directly, still crashes - GTX970 with regular PSU works (even with PCI-e Raiser cables) So the only stable configuration that works is when both the PSUs and the GPU are replaced. But all this at least eliminates the following error-sources: - Mainboard - CPU - RAM - SSD - Raiser-Cables What really haunts me, is that initially in 2017 the computer worked in the same configuration before the frame was completed. (see table test pic) I used furmark to stress the GPU and Prime95 to stress the CPU and proofed that it works under simultaneous load. At that time I didn’t have the cooling rig, so I used 3 fans on a radiator. Those fans are not used now which results in less power usage. This eliminates the following error-source: - Not enough power from the dual PSU setup. The power draw graph of the GTX1080 suggests that power could be an issue. (pic 2) (eventhough already proven that it isn’t two years ago) So I hooked up the regular power supply to the GPU alone and ran the PC through the other PSUs. - PC doesn’t crash, but GPU performs only 4fps in furmark. You likely want to point out the special setup with the two micro PSU connected through the add2psu adapter. But remember the PC still crashes when those are taken out of the equation entirely. And initially the setup worked flawlessly with those two PSUs two years ago. A test done by eteknix.com with same Mobo, CPU and a GTX980Ti (same power draw) shows 368 Watts power draw under full combined load. (pic) List of Hardware: (and which PSU it is hooked up to, see attached assembly diagram.) - PSU : 2x HDplex 250 Hi-Fi DC-ATX 250W, max. peak is 300W (www.hdplex.com) - PSU connector: add2psu (http://www.add2psu.com/) This connector does not share the power!! - Power : 2x Dell PA-9E AC-Adapter 240W (recommended by HDplex) Master PSU - Mainboard: AsRock Z170 Extreme7+ (LGA 1151, ATX) - CPU: Intel Core i7 6700K Box (LGA 1151, 4Ghz, unlocked) 100W - Storage: Intel SSD - RAM: Hyper X Fury (2x 16GB, DDR4-2133, Dimm 288) Slave PSU (201W total components, max. peak 296W) - GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 FE (8GB) (178W, max. peak 273W) - Pump: EKWB - EK-DBAY D5 PWM (23W) PC assembly diagram Original test setup with dual stresstest (both GPU / CPU) successful for 4 hours: Stresstest at the time: GTX1080 power consumption When I used a regular PSU (didn't help) Mainboard diagram

Hello everyone, I have had issues with Gears of War 4 and 5 now with my GTX 1080 hybrid Evga FTW card. I have done all the things others have done for Gears 4 with using different drivers every time I want to play the game. Everything seem ok when Gears 5 came out but recently all the old things that happen in Gears 4 is starting up again in Gears 5. I am getting blue screens, the game is freezing and crashes. The game is freezing and closing by itself and kicking me to Windows. I haven't found anything to help improve my game play in Gears 5 like a certain driver to use but it has just started doing this the past couple of months. All I am getting from calling into customer support is that I need to upgrade my card to a 20 series card but I don't have money just lying around to upgrade to a 2080? I mean my 1080 is doing very well in everything else but this game. Nvidia knows there is a problem for 10 series cards but there is no upgrade or rebate for 10 series owners. I just feel I got screwed buying my 1080 for this game, Gears 4 was given away free if you bought a 1070 or 1080 as advertisement ( https://www.theverge.com/2016/9/20/12986240/gears-of-war-4-free-nvidia-gtx-1070-gtx-1080 ). So I ask you guys what can I do? Thanks for looking at my post

So this project all started when my laptop started feeling old and sluggish, I also started being away for a few days at a time in hotels and needed a way to game on the move so came up with the concept of building a system that would all pack away into a normal sized suitcase and travel with me in the car. Decided on the Fractal Node 202 case purely because of its slender shape like games consoles. My initial idea was just to run air cooling with a few extra fans to increase air flow, but I took the chance on a second hand STRIX GTX 1080 of ebay and got my self a dud (Major artifact and crashing windows boots, managed to fix this card afterwards tho and is running in my main rig now sweetly!) So that's where my water cooling ideas started from as my main gaming rig had a MSI seahawk GTX1080 which was also slightly smaller in size PCB wise. So I begun researching what parts i may need to get this completed with the least amount of customization needed. And came up with this spec sheet. Motherboard - ROG STRIX x470-i CPU - Ryzen 7 2700X Ram - 2x8GB 3200mhz Corsair Vengeance Storage - 970 EVO m.2 512GB PSU - Corsair SF600 Case - Fractal Node 202 AIO - Fractal Kelvin block Radiator - XSPC TX240 Fans - 2x Noctua NF-A12x15 PWM GPU block - EK waterblocks Various fittings were required including T-pieces 90's and 45 degree bends all these picked up from EKWB. So before going down the water cooled route this is what I was left with; But then with this GPU not working I swapped over to the smaller PCB sized MSI one and started building up my water cooling solution. Had to adjust the AOI's block AM3 mount to allow me to attach it to a AM4 motherboard. Then I ran into my biggest problem of this build and that was the connection from the GPU into my radiator. not for the life of me could i find something that would work until I came across the swivel 90 degree block from EKWB which seemed like the end was in sight! Got it all piped up and then started to fill up the system and my days it takes a fair while and just when you think you've got all the air out out appears another air bubble! But now that I've had it running I've been testing out temps I get. without any overclocking It runs around about the 65 degrees mark while gaming / streaming. Bumped the CPU up to 4.3Ghz and found the temps to rise on the CPU to around the 75-80 degrees mark. This was prior to changing the fan curve as the fans them self on the radiator would hardly be on most of the time. Overall really impress with this little unit I've paired it up with a 24" 144hz refresh rate monitor and my standard mouse and keyboard and have been using it as my daily for a while to make sure every things good to go before venturing out into the wild! Still have to make up the inside of my suitcase for transportation still but that's another project! Took it for a little test run down at the inlaws place and overall really impressed with it, ease of set up and play! Already got eyes on my next wee adventure and that being a duel system in one case idea using the Phanteks Enthoo Evolv X case to have a gaming / steaming set up in one unit.

I have recently cleaned my computer (disassembled and reassembled) And now i have a few problems, 1)In VrChat with htc vive it will crash after 10min. 2)In Black Desert Online i get every few minutes a black screen for 10 sec. I have noticed that my gpus get from 40% to 100% in the sec. the screen went black. Does anyone know what I can do there? All I have changed is that I switched the sli switch on the motherboard from out to 2 away sli. The cards are in the 1 and 3 pcie slot.
