  1. Hey guys, I've been struggling for the last couple of days about which gpu I should go for. Since I've came to no conclusion over the last few days, I thought about asking about it here, and hopefully get my answer. As I see things, the 960 most likely outperforms the 950, although I'm not all about performance, but temperatures, acoustics and looks too. So here are a couple of things that I like about the 950 from EVGA: 1. It has the ACX cooler(which looks really nice, and I'm a bit about the looks), they say the fans don't spin until the card hits 60ºC, which is also really nice, and I dont think the gigabyte has this(but if it does, correct me). 2. Again about the cooler, it has two fans, which I like, not only because of acoustics, but looks amazing as well, not the same can be said about the 960, since it has 1 fan only. 3. It comes with a backplate, which, again, is a nice addition for the look of it. So now you might ask what I like about the 960 from Gigabyte, right? Well, nothing at all,.. so far that is. Nothing has really caught my eye about the gigabyte, other than the performance of a 960, which is the main reason of writing this. Although I expect the performance of a 960 from it, I wouldn't be too sure about the temperatures and the acoustics(since it only has 1 fan afterall), so that's a bit worrying, hopefully somebody clears that up for me. I'm mainly looking for good performance at 1080p(which is where both cards perform their best, I assume), but also want good acoustics and avoid overheating at all. Since the start I've been thinking about buying the 950, because of the ok performance, and also it does seem to have nice temps and acoustics. But i've been drifting ever since I saw the 960 on sale, since they are both similarly priced(roughly 180€ where I live). So that's it from me, I hope to hear from you guys, about which of these cards would be the best choice, opinions are very welcome and also share your experience with either of these. Side note: this topic is about the gtx950 and gtx960 only, but I'll still say this. Don't recommend me any AMD card over these, since i'll be installing Arch Linux and the catalyst drivers often suck there, it's either downgrading X11 or it simply doesn't work at all, so I'm only looking for an opinion between these two. Thanks in advance, I'll check here regularly GTX 950: http://xtremmedia.com/EVGA_GeForce_GTX_950_FTW_ACX_2_0_2GB_GDDR5.html GTX 960: https://www.amazon.es/Gigabyte-GeForce-GTX-960-OC/dp/B00SJ8FZZ0/ref=sr_1_1?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1459123961&sr=1-1&keywords=gtx+960 EDIT: Added store links for the cards(they're in spanish but hopefully you'll be able to see what matters)
  2. Hello All! First post! I was going to add a GTX 750ti for my recently bought budget rig: AMD FX 6300 3.5GHz, HyperX Fury 8GB 1866MHz, GA 78LMT-USB3 powered with 500w PSU. I don't have a 1080p setup (still on 720p) and hence not considering the GTX 970 as it would be too much for my requirement. With my current budget I can afford upto a GTX 960. Is that the best or any r7s or r9s in this range? Which GPU would be better, won't bottleneck and can support games such as Sniper Elite III, Far Cry Primal, Hitman 6, Watch Dogs 2 or any new/upcoming games till 2017 Also, I am going for an overclock once I get a Hyper 212x, which will be in the coming 2-3 days. Please don't say to get an i5 or equivalent. I am not planning any upgrade before Q2 2017. PS: Not a fan of Max/Ultra settings, but would be happy if I can get it on 720p
  3. Ok, so its time to by a new gpu, i was wondering between GTX 950 or r7 370, in most opinions GTX 950 is better than the r7 370, even since the r7 is 256 bit and the GTX is 128, i will use the new card in 1080p monitor. I was wondering about your opinion, which should i buy, is there a better card in that price and no more (money problems :D), and all that stuff, i plan to play diablo 3, dota 2, maybe some cs go, and whatever good comes out in the future. My current graphics card is gt 730 which is a low end card but diablo 3 was running good on it and randomly every game i played started running low with this card, and yes the problem is in the card i tryed it on my friend's pc and there was the same bug - lag when there are smokes or some smoky things. Example : in CS:GO without smoke in front of me i got like 80 fps in low settings on 1080p, but with smoke infront of me i got like 10 fps. What you think bugged my card to make it running that low and can it happen to my new gpu (when i buy it) (sorry for my bad english)
  4. Greetings fellow Linus (and co) lovers! I bring you frustrating tidings. I'll try to keep things brief but I'm not sure how successful I'll be. This is my story, thus far: A few days ago, work was disposing of a perfectly good ASI Clarendon SP252 server running dual Xeon e5620's, 12GB of DDR3 RAM etc. After watching many of Linus' videos where he utilises server hardware to create a gaming system, (eg. ) I immediately offered to take it off the company's hands and see what I could do with it. I mean, how often does all this perfectly good hardware just fall into someone's lap?! ) So, I quickly did some googling, decided a GTX 950 would fit my moderate 1080p gaming needs, and promptly visited the local computer store where I acquired a Gigabyte Windforce 2GB GDDR5 OC GTX 950 card for $250 Australian pesos. If I could turn this behemoth (the thing is huge, and heavy) into a respectable gaming rig for only $250 and a bit of time, a penny-pincher like me would be loving life! Alas, it was not to be. When I got home and yanked the side off the case, I realised that the dual 750w redundant PSU's didn't have a 6-pin graphics card power connector. Fail. Will have to wait 24 hours to visit aforementioned PC store again and obtain a dual-molex to single 6-pin graphics card type power connector. 24 hours later, power cable adapter/connector connected, card installed, Windows 7 Pro loaded, nVidia drivers installed, moment of truth: To my simultaneous joy and disappointment, the performance is very nice when it works, and very not nice when it doesn't work. To be more specific, the frames are smooth and normal for about a second or two, then all the graphics pause for about a second or two, before resuming for a second or two etc etc. I've tried several things up to this point and I have many more things that I will try in the near future but I thought I'd get a post up here and see if anyone can suggest directions to try first. Some links to my hardware: Server (mine is the SC5600BRP): http://www.asicomputers.com.au/Servers/ArchivedServerModels/ClarendonSP252.aspx Graphics card: http://www.gigabyte.com.au/products/product-page.aspx?pid=5549#kf Motherboard: http://ark.intel.com/products/36599/Intel-Server-Board-S5520HC CPU('s): http://ark.intel.com/products/47925/Intel-Xeon-Processor-E5620-12M-Cache-2_40-GHz-5_86-GTs-Intel-QPI I initially was using the supplied Seagate 400GB drives in some RAID0 configuration (virtual drives) via the Intel SAS RAID card, but as part of removing as many variables as possible, I've just gone with a single 2.5" 500GB HDD connected directly to the motherboard via a SATA port. I've also disabled the RAID card in the BIOS and unplugged the power and data cables from the backplane because I don't want to use it anyway, as it's unnecessary for my needs. The only thing I'm putting on this box is Steam and some Steam games. It does not matter at all if the data is lost as I have it all stored on a NAS (and backed up additionally) anyway. There have been a couple of BIOS revisions but despite doing a couple of hours of reading, I can't find a user-friendly (WIndows/GUI) way of updating the BIOS. It looks as though I'm going to have to learn how to update a BIOS via the EFI shell, which will take a bit of time to learn and be confident in. I've loaded all the drivers I can find, no change. I've ordered a Corsair VS450 (watt) PSU in case the stock server PSU's aren't delivering enough power or doing something funny. For the time being if it works, I'll be powering only the GPU off the Corsair PSU and I'll leave everything else powered by the server PSU's as I'll need to get a proper ATX case to house everything on a more permanent basis. This should arrive on Monday. If it works, I'll probably get a beefier PSU, long-term. I'll also be swapping this card for a colleague's older card (I think he said it was a GTX 560) for a day or so to see what happens. He is also going to try my GTX 950 in his ~3 year-old rig just to make sure the actual card isn't faulty. The PC store said I could return it, minus a meagre restocking fee, if it doesn't work, but that offer won't last forever. So I guess I'm on somewhat of a limited time-frame here. So the things I'm looking at doing in the next couple of days in addition to the aforementioned steps: • Trying other versions of Windows (eg. 8.1, 10, server 2008) • Disabling the on-board video output in BIOS • Fiddling around with various BIOS settings • Eventually updating the BIOS firmware I think that about covers the whole thing thus far. This is where I turn to you, dear reader. If you think you have an idea what could be causing this, please suggest it as it could save me further headaches (both figurative and literal)!! Also FYI, this problem affects ALL graphics (all games, all benchmark tools, Windows effects) with one exception: The mouse pointer. When everything freezes/pauses, the mouse pointer stays smooth. Apologies in advance for my first post being so long! Also apologies if this is in the wrong section. If a helpful mod could move it to the appropriate section, that'd be grand. <3

Hello guys , i have a pc with a AMD APU A8 7600 3.1ghz , with 8 gb dual channel 1866mhz ram , and a 500 watt ( 82~85 effieciency ) , i was thinking of adding a graphics card , i was thinking of gtx 750ti , gtx 950 , gtx 960 , or r7 370 . my budget for the gpu is around 250 EUROs ( im from europe ) and all the models i mentioned would be the 2gb models , should i get the 750ti , or something better? im worried about any BOTTLENECKS from my apu , so maybe i should stick with the 750ti? the games i play more often are: BATTLEFIELD 3 , INSURGENCY , DOTA 2 , TERA ( NORTH AMERICA ) , BATTLEFIELD BAD COMPANY 2 , BLADE AND SOUL , SMITE , CALL OF DUTY BLACK OPS 2 , and im thinking of buying ( when i get the new gpu ) : ELITE DANGEROUS , WITCHER 3 , and (plz dont kill me ) NEED FOR SPEED 2015 ( when it comes out ).i want the best and cheapest solution to run this games at max 60fps at 1080p ( although i dont mind going to 720p so consider it a possibility ). Thank you
  8. Hi, So I am wondering what GPU I should add to my build which I am currently making for my sister. ( I will order the components from MindFactory.de) ( Palit, Asus, Inno3D, Gigabyte, KF2) GTX 950 vs HIS Radeon R9 270X IceQ Other Components (I won't overclock CPU): Motherboard: AsRock B85M Pro3 CPU: Intel Core i5 4460 Boxed RAM: 8GB Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz HDD: Seagate 1tb PSU: Corsair VS550W Case: Bitfenix Prodigy M GPU: ? The total price with shipping costs( 30€ to Finland) and other stuff + ~ 66€ = 677,77€ Thanks in advance! (feel free to comment overall build and what would you change if the budget is like 700€ max)
  9. Two laptops, 1 has Core i7-4720HQ and GPU is 950m 2GB 2. has i5-6300HQ and GPU is 950 4GB. Which one to pick??? http://www.prix-portables.fr/PC%20portable/17569/Hp,Pavilion-gaming-15-ak004nf-vert.html http://www.prix-portables.fr/PC%20portable/17127/Asus,R510jx-xx174h-noir.html
  10. How long would a GTX 950 SC+ last playing FPS games at 1080P 60FPS?
  11. So I was helping my friend to upgrade his computer, he bought a new gtx 950 GPU and some 500w PSU. After instalation we started testing the PC and we got bad fps and freezing in games like CS GO and minecraft... So what should i do? I installed all the necesery drivers etcetera, could it be some problem with OS and the new parts or is the CPU bottlenecking the system? he has a AMD A10-6700 APU. Thanks for your help
  12. Hi, After watching nearly all of Linus online movies, I thought it would be time to ask for some advise instead of dreaming of that Titan X/Z. My current specs: Home build Rig 1x Windows 7 Ultimate (64-Bit) 1x USUTech Rampage Extreme 1 // https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/RAMPAGE_EXTREME/ 1x HD4870 Sapphire vapor-x // cpuZ and gpuZ show 2GDDR5 (but is this true?) // http://www.sapphiretech.com/productdetial.asp?pid=4631B197-278E-473D-83BA-35B6B74B295A&lang=eng 1x Intel Q9400 // quadcore @ 2.66Mhz // http://ark.intel.com/nl/products/35365/Intel-Core2-Quad-Processor-Q9400-6M-Cache-2_66-GHz-1333-MHz-FSB 4x Kingston 2GB PC3-10700 1333Mhz 2x Dual-channel // Cpuz show 667Mhz 1x MS-Tech 950 Watt http://www.ms-tech.de/eng/index.php/product/detail/pdcid/74/pdid/337 1x Samsung SSD 840 EVO 120GB 1x WesternDigital Black Kevlar 1TB 1x 3TB HD 1x CPU sink / vin cooler // non-fans // idle temp. 43 Celsius // 1x CMSTORM case http://gaming.coolermaster.com/en/products/cases/scout2advanced/ 1x ASUS VG248QE 24" // 144HZ 1ms (GTG) response https://www.asus.com/nl/Monitors/VG248QE/ Resolution 1080P Before this screen I used to had a 1080p BenQ 60Hz screen. After it broke I bought the next best thing I could afford. Not realizing that 100fps won't fill up those 144Hz. At the moment I'm playing less GPU demanding but highly competitive games such as CS:GO and Starcraft 2 around 100FPS on high settings. But as soon as I start a more demanding game with higher graphics and more textures it shows a great decrease in FPS. In some cases just crashes the GPU driver. I wish to play the competitive games on high / ultra settings around 150+FPS and new generation (more demanding) games on medium / high settings around 60+FPS At the moment my budget is very limited. So before spending a single fbuck. Will buying a new GPU like the EVGA GTX 950 give me the performance upgrade I need? Or will it get bottle-necked by the CPU. Or do you recommend an other GPU around the 150-200€ budget. Is my system overall anyway suitable for this achievement? Are there any other improvements possible to become As Fast As Possible without Minecraft skins! Thank you for your time, Patrick van Oorschot, The Netherlands, Amsterdam, W33d.

  18. As you have all probably experienced, when installing Nvidia drivers, the screen turns off and then back on again a handful of times. This is expected behavior. My problem is that, during the driver installation, the screen turns off but does not come back on again. Even if I restart my desktop, there is no output... The only way I can get back into Windows is by doing a clean installation. I'm not sure if this is related, but I am also experiencing an additional problem: When I boot my computer, the mobo logo is somewhat distorted - it looks quite stretched and seems to "spill" off the screen. What's more, the BIOS does not render properly at all. It should looks like this, but actually looks like this - as you can see, there is a weird rendering issue. Here are some more details that may help diagnose the problem: I am running a clean installation of Windows 10 Pro (64bit) Before installing the driver, I booted into safe mode and ran DDU. I have tried installing driver versions 355.82 (31.8.2015) and and 361.43 (21.12.2015). Both exhibited the same erroneous behavior. The card I am trying to install is an EVGA GTX 950 SC+. My motherboard is an MSI P67A-GD53 (B3) My processor is an Intel i5 2500k I am confident that I have ample power, as my old card required twice as much power and worked fine. Bare in mind, I did manage to get the card working successfully at fist (I think). It is difficult to say when these problems first arose, as a number of things happened at once including restarting the computer, running a mandatory Windows update, and temporarily removing the card to install a new cooler* * I grounded myself before carefully removing the card and putting it straight inside the protective packaging in which it came. I was similarly careful when re-installing the card, so I very much doubt I physically damaged the card. My old graphics card works, which would suggest that the problem does not lie with any of the other components. Any assistance or advice would be very much appreciated. Thank you.
  19. as the title says which pc would get me more fps in games like gta 5 and battlefield 4 and hardline and which one shall i buy
  20. I would like to be able to play AAA games on high settings with a playable 40 or 30 ish FPS. I have originally chosen a Core i5-4690k with an EVGA SSC GTX 950, but now I am wondering about using a Pentium G3258 Anniversary edition with a Zotac reference-style GTX 760. How much of a performance difference will I see between these two setups? For example, in a Crysis or Far Cry performance test, about how much FPS will I see? The Pentium can be overclocked a lot, but has only 2 cores and no turbo boost. What type of things will this CPU be good at, and what type of things will this CPU be bad at? What performance can I expect from this rig?
  21. I recently got a brand new GTX 950 to replace my GTX 460. Unfortunately, I have been experiencing some problems with it: When I boot my computer, the motherboard logo is somewhat distorted - it looks quite stretched and seems to "spill" off of the screen. What's more, the BIOS does not render properly at all. It should look like this, but actually looks like this. As you can see, there is a weird rendering issue. (Despite the aforementioned problem, the card does allow me to access Windows in a low resolution.) After installing the latest Nvidia driver, the card ceases to produce any output. During the installation, the screen turns off and then never comes back on again. With the driver installed, when I boot my computer, I see the same distorted motherboard logo, and then as soon as Windows loads, the monitor stops receiving output from the card. The only way I can access Windows is to load it in safe mode, which effectively temporarily disables the driver. I tried a whole bunch of things to solve these problems but nothing worked. In a last ditch effort before returning the card, I replaced my monitor and to my surprise, the card started working flawlessly. In order to confirm that the card was working, I ran a handful of benchmarks including including PcMark, FurMark, and AIDA64, all of which produced accurate scores. Just to ensure that it was replacing the monitor that actually solved my problems, I swapped the monitors back again. After doing this, the aforementioned problems came back. I swapped the monitors again and the card started working fine. Understand that these two monitors are of an identical model (Samsung SyncMaster SA350), used the same cable, and had the same default settings. I borrowed a third monitor (a generic Asus monitor) and it, too, exhibited the erroneous behavior described above. All of these tests were conducted using the card's DVI output and the same DVI-HDMI cable. In an attempt to further isolate the problem I continued to experiment with different monitors, cables, and ports. I did this for about 10 minutes but didn't really learn anything interesting. After a while I thought it best to confirm that the monitor/setup that once worked was still working but to my dismay, it wasn't. Understand that all I did was swap cables and peripherals - I didn't change any monitor settings, nor did I change any BIOS settings. This, to me, suggests that the hardware is temperamental. The next morning the problem persisted. I swapped the monitors again and the card started working. After a couple of system restarts, the problems all came back. Here are some more details that may help diagnose the problem: The card I am trying to install is an EVGA GTX 950 SC+ My motherboard is an MSI P67A-GD53 (B3). It is running the latest BIOS. My processor is an Intel i5 2500k I am confident that I have ample power, as my old card requires twice as much power and works fine I installed my old 460 and it still works fine I am running a clean installation of Windows 10 Pro (64bit) Before installing the driver, I booted into safe mode and ran DDU. I have tried installing driver versions 355.82 (31.8.2015) and and 361.43 (21.12.2015). Both exhibited the same erroneous behavior. Clearly this is a hardware issue. The question is: Is this a defective card or is their a compatibility issue, do you think? If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask. I will be monitoring this thread closely and will attempt to respond promptly. Thanks.
  22. Hey guys, I need a gpu for that: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/515074-gpu-upgrade-ok-this-way/ because the case is not that big, I need a smal gpu and my friend settled on the 950. The 950 I have in the thread is AFAIK a reference model with the msi logo on it. Does anybody know how the temps of this card are? I do not find anything about this card because the gaming 2g is favored in all tests (obviously) but i can't use the GTX 950 Gaming 2G because of size. I need a small card + the ventelation in the case is not the best (that's why I'm concerned about the temps on the card with reference design), there's only one exhaust at the back. While researching, I saw that the strix is kinda small. something wrong with that card? Which model would you suggest? Thanks in advance!
  23. So me and my girlfriend want to build the next PC: Gigabyte LGA 1150 Intel H81 USB 3.0 SATA 6Gbps HDMI DVI-D D-Sub mATX Motherboard GA-H81M-HD3 Intel Core i5-4460 LGA 1150 CPU - BX80646I54460 Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB Single DDR3 1600 MT/s (PC3-12800) CL9 @1.5V UDIMM 240-Pin Memory BLS8G3D1609DS1S00 WD Blue 1TB Desktop 3.5 Inch SATA 6Gb/s 7200rpm Internal Hard Drive Corsair Carbide Series SPEC-01 Mid Tower Gaming Case CC-9011050-WW EVGA GeForce GTX 950 SC+ Graphics Card 02G-P4-2956-KR Corsair CX Series 430 Watt ATX/EPS Modular 80 PLUS Bronze ATX12V/EPS12V 384 Power Supply CX430M Will the CX430m enough for a gtx 950 ACX 2.0? She wants a modular or semi modular PSU for the airflow, but the budget is a little tight.
  24. <<<<<<This thread is currently on hold until I actually have the mooneh to buy a GPU. Also to give time for prices to normalize.. I'm looking at you GTX 950, and you R9 300s.>>>>> That's basically it. G3258 will be OC'd please no AMD. me no like im sorry. reconsidering no plan on SLI no upgrade path (I will just create another build instead of recycling parts from this tra- i mean- budget build) EDIT: I was avoiding to give you the full build because usually people get out of focus when they see my build. Instead of answering the question, they suggest other stuff like, "change your cpu, your mobo is shit, your psu is not enough" etc etc. Anyhooo: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/7CdpwP G3258 reason: OC practice for newbs. current choices are: (Budget is 9000 PhP)... Ill update this in the morning (12hrs give or take) for the full list of available GPUs (make/model). and also pricing. !UPDATED! I did not list everything removed all GPUs that are PhP 10,000 up. Also did not check a lot of vendors (just decent ones). This list is just to give you an overview of GPU pricing here in the Philippines. For now here's what I can give you, I have enough money for an Inno3D GTX 960 which costs 8850PhP (roughly 190-200$). 950s are on the 175-200$ range (yes most of the available 950s are very expensive). 750Tis I haven't checked. Games to be played (on 1080p): LoL & HotS most of the time And then some OLD single player games. e,g. PoP series, AC series, BioShock series, and etc.. Most probably the heaviest game would be Skyrim. I'm pretty sure I don't need a stronger CPU to play these games. Soo 60fps Skyrim. 960 vs 950 vs 750Ti vs Red Team
