Hey guys and gals, I just picked up an msi mag272qr and I can't set the monitor to 144hz or 165 hz, they aren't showing up in nvidia control panel or display adapter settings. I can however set the monitor to 120 hz through custom resolution settings, but it doesn't show up under native resolutions. 144 and 165hz will work in the custom settings for testing but they wont save in the custom resolutions. What I've done to try and remedy the problem: - DDU the video card drivers and monitor profiles I have a GTX 680 4gb which I know wont play modern games at 144-165hz but I'd like to play older games at those refresh rates. It has enough bandwidth through display port, any ideas? full specs: msi mag272qr GTX 680 4gb Intel i7 3770k @4.4ghz 16gb corsair dominator platinum 1866 ddr3 samsung evo 850 500gb

So i'm thinking about using an gtx 680 to game on, but is it still viable in 2020? does it still hold enough power to play modern games smoothly?

Hello there! So, im having this problem for the first time in my life. My screen is "waving" after my PC hits more than 60FPS. This doesnt make any sence to me, because ive builded many PCs and i havent ever faced this problem before. Some people say this is because i have 60Hz monitor, but i refuse to belive that, because as i said; This is the first time with my PC and monitor. Also my brother has PC with 60Hz screen and he can just take V-sync off and play with unlimited FPS without any "waving". I have tried different monitors, cables and graphics cards, but no. Id just like to play games with unlimited FPS. Specs: i7-930 GTX 680 Asus P6X58D-E 16GB RAM 500W PSU 500GB HDD Windows 10 Pro 64-bit HP LE2201w (1680x1050@60Hz) VGA on monitor DVI on PC Thank you in advance! -Matti

This was a quick weekend build with a old HP desktop laying around. Intended as a placeholder google docs machine and future media/network backup machine, as well as a 2nDairy (Secondary) gaming machine for cheap. My laptop is being repaired for several weeks so I need something to transfer written class notes while it's away. Here is a quick benchmark: https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/19606825 All in all I've put in this build Total: $127 USD (this weekend) +~$60 for parts laying around YMMV Base build $0 (was laying around unused) HP Pavilion Slimline s5623w (Comes with 3GB DDR2 [1gb + 2gb]) (working DVD burner) (CPU Cooler for 95W) (originally Sempron 140) (motherboard M2N68-LA (Narra5)) ATX Case $20 - XPS Dell case (used private sale) Power Supply new EVGA 600W (laying around, bought at Best buy several years ago for $25ish?) CPU $15 Phenom 8650 CPU (used private sale) $40 EVGA GTX 680 SSD (used private sale) $24 PNY 120 Gb SSD (best buy) Thermal Compound (bestbuy) $8 Gas from going everywhere (California, sub $4 per gal) $20 (180 miles/ 40ish per gal [motorcycle lyfe]) Upgraded to win7 from the OG HDD and used the Key to load it onto the new SSD (PNY from bestbuy) That made the biggest immediate difference I haven't seen before today with anything. In Sacramento area, got the 680 & CPU & Case locally used. FB & Craigslist. Both parts within 12 hours from search to purchase. Planning on finding a Phenom II X4 940 to upgrade the bottlenecking 8650 in it rn. Should be roughly $25 used but if I don't well this is perfect as a working office like machine. Currently running my LG 27UK600W (4k monitor I got used for $180) with it just fine for videos and such. I'm happy with how quick and easy this was. You can do it too! Any questions or if you want pictures just ask. Can run other benchmarks on request. Enjoy!

GTX 680 not working after swapping it with my Gt 640
Clausioporosis posted a topic in Graphics Cards
Hello LinusTechTips community, i have a problem with my Gainward GTX 680. I have a Windows 10 pc with a 550w power supply and a GeForce Gt 640 which I wanted to swap. So I deinstalled all graphics drivers, deactivated the intern graphics drivers and swapped the graphics card. But now there is this problem: My pc starts and the fan of the GTX 680 is spinning but there is no output from it. The hdmi port is broken but I use the dvi one. My friend said it's working in his pc and if I swap back to my old one everything works again. Right now I'm reseting my whole computer and hoping it was just the fault of a driver. (I also searched for the integrated graphics settings in my Uefi but I can't find any "advanced" settings) I would appreciate any help. -
I found a GTX 680 on Facebook yard sale for 80 bucks. So I went on eBay to find out if this is a decent price. And holy s*** the price is right now are horrible. why are the prices garbage?

Hello, I hope someone reading this might be able to steer me in the right direction of fixing my current issue. Thanks in advance, too! I have a Hackintosh with a GeForce GTX 680, which runs awesome and very fast on Steam Games. Recently, I've decided to install a boot of Win 10 - It's all running well - EXCEPT! The steam games are VERY VERY VERY Laggy, choppy, and so slow. Even the same games I've played on the mac. Now, I've already installed the web drivers for NVIDIA & CUDA. I'm just not sure what else to try - it's as if the games aren't running off my graphics card. Which is strange, because my GeForce Experience application says it's running.. ? Strange! Any bright ideas out there?

Hi, someone is offering me a GTX 680 2gb version for $50. I already have a GTX 1070, but I would like to inquire if there is any reason I should buy this (considering the price). I have submitted this topic in the past but this time the price is lower so I want to ask if this is worth it.

I already have a GTX 1070 right now, but someone's offering a GTX 680 for $60 to me. I'm pretty new to PC building and I would like to ask; would I get any improvement in performance from an added (really old) GPU, and also, should I buy it?

So, I finally managed to update my system from 775 to 1366. the CPU I have is the X5650, cooled by a Coolermaster seideon 120m. Now i think i am facing a GPU bottleneck. ( Currently Gtx 680) I thought of a 780 ti, but those are selling used down here in Germany for around 200 €, R9 290x Cards, on the other hand, are selling for around 150 € with a good cooler. What Gpu should i get? (price to performance in mind) What would be the best Card this Cpu could handle? Thanks for your answers

So my brother has a GTX 680 right now, the EPIC MSI lightning card and i have two friends that upgraded their GPUs, one went from a 970 to a 1080, the other from a refrence 290 also to a 1080. i could probably snag that 290 from him for like €85 or so, the question is, is it worth it? brothers specs: I5 4670K Hyper 212 GTX 680 Lightning ASUS Maximus IV 8GB 1600MHz DDR3 500W CoolerMaster PSU(not entirely sure what unit, its not that great though) Zalman GT1000 case the PSU clearly needs an upgrade, but i have a G750M sitting around i could swap in but the powerdraw of the two seem similar. the thing im unsure about is the cooler, the Lightning is pretty quiet, as is the 212(well not super quiet but not too bad) and the 290 is infamous for its garbage cooler: mounting a custom cooler on it would be nice, but that would add quite a bit of cost here. the 970 is also an option but thats going to be more like €130 and then the 290 with the aftermarket cooler is cheaper He plays games like WoT at 1080p 60Hz, think he plays some OW too now but he plays mostly esports games, nothing AAA, so idk if the upgrade is really even worth it seeing as the 680 is about on par with the 1050TI(drawing almost 3x the power) and the 1050TI does well in basically everything still, havent had any problems running anything on the Toaster and that has an I5 4690K and a 1050TI. i thought breifly about putting the 290 in the toaster, then i rememberd its running a crappy 300W SFX PSU and that with the 290 it would probably draw somewhere near 400W lol. anyway i just want your input on wether or not i should but the 290 here, is it worth it, or is the upgrade not worth the cost and added noice?

Hi! Please help me in my GPU BIOS edit problem. I have a NVIDIA GTX 680 2GB GPU (Kepler), and I want to upload a different BIOS to it, but before that change the "Vendor name/ID" to the current (see the attached image). How can I change the vendor from Zotac (19DA) to NVIDIA (10DE)? I tried to find the appropriate string/hex in hex editors (HxDen & WinHex), but I couldn't found it. Sadly it cant be changed with any bios editor tool as I know (I tried Kepler BIOS Tweaker (KBT), Kepler Golden BIOS Tool (KGB) and NiBiTor).

Welcome! We are going to conduct an experiment! I have always wondered. Can you SLI a GTX770 2GB with a GTX680 2GB? Will the GTX 680 need to be flashed to a 770? These questions will be definitively answered. I searched over like 10 google pages (thats like half the internet) and I did not see anyone that ACTUALLY tried SLIing these cards together. Both of the sides have provided theories as to why or why it will not work but no one has tried it. I have an EVGA Superclocked GTX 680 2GB card that I got back in 2012. It's stable and is a daily reliable workhorse. I considered SLIing this because I could get the card cheap and I knew the GTX770 is in fact a refresh of the 680. Some other chatter I saw about this. http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-2182003/sli-gtx-680-gtx-770.html http://www.overclock.net/t/1396119/can-a-gtx-680-sli-with-gtx-770 But no one confirmed a result. I have seen confirmation that a GTX 680 can be bios flashed to GTX 770 with gpu boost 2.0 functional and I know my card can run the 770 bios speeds. This gap in humanity's knowledge ends tomorrow (probably) as I flash my GPU to a 770 and SLI to some random GTX 770 I pick up off Kijiji (Canadian Craigslist) and hope it JUST WERKS. : ^) I am acquiring the 770 tomorrow (later today technically) and will report further. I'm going to thank this thread in advance as I'm sure I'm going to be using it. UPDATE 1: Having some trouble with the flashing process. I'm using a GTX770 2GB Superclocked bios as I have a 680 2GB Superclocked, but no matter which switches I add to the nvflash command it refuses to flash, citing GPU mismatch even if I use "nvflash64 -4 -5 -6 770.rom", I tried using --protectoff and it seemed to turn off the write protection. " -f " isnt forcing it either. Any advice? EDIT: After downloading old version of NVFlash it's ALIVE! Update 2: As seen here we now have access to temp limit (GPU Boost 2.0). The card seems stable under 100% real game load. temps and speeds are the same but the bios shows up as 770 when i check using "nvflash --version" At this point I have a gtx 680 flashed to a 770 and another gtx 770. I just need to get the pci-e power cables and an SLI bridge that is spaced properly. THEN THE FUN REALLY BEGINS. Update 3: So the cables came and I have installed both GPU's and both are recognized by the nvidia driver, unfortunately, it appears the driver is also smart enough to refuse to SLI them, never fear however. There is software such as hypersli that may make this work. Conclusion: Well, the experiment has been fun. I hope people in the future that have the same question I did see this thread. As it turns out, GTX 680 SLI'd with GTX 770 is not possible even with a flashed card. However, we can see that using differentsli auto, you can in fact make it work, you do not even need to flash the card to a 770. I could undo mine but it's stable and I'm lazy now I've checked in a couple games and I'm getting good scaling, about 80-95%. It appears to be working well. I could not have finished the process of using different auto sli as quickly as I did, without the super helpful thread on techpowerup, and this post in specific that details exactly which driver is supported and how to enable this functionality. https://www.techpowerup.com/forums/threads/sli-with-different-cards.158907/page-89#post-3673305 The main downsides to this are that it's basically only compatible with somewhat older drivers (currently using a driver from may), and that you must enable test mode in windows which gives your desktop an annoying little message. Overall I would only recommend this if you are like me and find a cheap but technically incompatible card and want to eek out a few more months from your system. TL;DR: No you can't SLI a 680 and a 770 unless you use DifferentSLI Auto, even a flashed card will not work.

I have an older Mac that I still need for certain software. My monitor however is on it's last legs. I would like to get a monitor that I can use both on that system and then a newer system at another date. The Monitor is LG 29UM68-P. The graphics card is an EVGA GTX 680 Mac Edition. It says max resolution is 2560 x1600 but only through the DVI Dual link port. So leaves me questioning what the max resolution is through the Display Port 1.1. Thank you in advance for any help you can provide.

My question: Can I keep the old 680 in the system without frying my PSU? Background: I want to upgrade to a GTX 1070/1080 from a GTX 680 [1]. While I personally use the system for gaming, I occasionally let my GF render her architecture on my System. This pretty much maxes out the CPU as well as the GPU. So I am thinking about leaving the old GPU in the system along the new one to assists in rendering. I allready looked up the max power draw of the System components (worst case): i7 3770k: 145W [2] GTX 680: 355W [1] GTX 1080: 310W/390W (OC) [3] Rest: 100W [4] Total: 910W / 990W (OC) I already have a 850W Gold PSU [5] in the system. Is that a problem or just fine? Should I just get rid of the 680? Hello guys I have an GTX 680 which I have been using for quite a while (about 3 years). Today however while playing bf4 it stopped working and made wierd lines on my monitors and frooze. (see image for pattern) http://imgur.com/a/Cwiye I then booted up the pc and game again and after under 5 minutes the same issue occured. I was monitoring temps this time at they didnt even reach 65 C. It can easily run optimally well over 75 C. I cleaned my pc and made sure all cables were connected correctly but now the pc wont even boot and goes into windows repair mode (Win 10). Should I "just" get a new card or is there something I can do to fix it? Thanks for any help Zarriix

This is my current build. OS: Windows 7 Home 64 bit MB: Gigabyte Z68MX-UD3H-B3 Processor: Intel Core i7 - 2700k LGA 1155 CPU Cooler: Hyper 212+ SSD: Crucial M4 256GB SSD Memory: Corsair Vegence DDR3 1600 4x4GB GPU: EVGA 680 GTX Reference PSU: PC Power and Cooling Silencer 910W Case: Cooler Master 690 Advanced II Monitor: Dell Ultrasharp 2412M (24inch IPS 1080p) So I know my current rig is pretty old. I built this back in 2011ish and I have not had the time to really upgrade it and did not see it being worthwhile to spend lots of money to upgrade. This computer is used for some moderate gaming + a bit of moderate video editing. At some time I will probably add in another monitor or go 1440p dual monitor setup. I'm thinking of making the following upgrades right off the bat (they are bolded) OS: Windows 10 Home 64 bit MB: Gigabyte Z68MX-UD2H-B3 Processor: Intel Core i7 - 2700k LGA 1155 CPU Cooler: Hyper 212X SSD: Samsung 850 EVO 500GB Memory: Corsair Vegence DDR3 1600 4x4GB GPU: EVGA GTX 1070 FTW or SC PSU: EVGA SuperNova 650 G2 Case: Cooler Master Mastercase 5 Pro Monitor: Dell Ultrasharp U2515H (single monitor setup for now but dual in a few months time) . (25inch 1440p IPS) I have seen tons of back and forth and debates regarding status of 2500k but have not seen much about 2700k. Is it worth upgrading to the 6700k from my current setup? Or should I wait about half a year or so and see what is going with the next architecture? If I hit up 6700k, I would need to buy new MB, New CPU, new ram which could be a rather expensive 600-800 USD upgrade that I am not willing to spend right now. I only got the 2700k because I got a really good deal via Intel's program (iirc around $100 USD) So what do you think about current upgrades to extend the life of my desktop and what would you do?

Hey guys, I'm going to be straight forward, I'm poor and I'm going to buy a used graphics card from Amazon. I found a GTX 560Ti 2Win for a good price and I couldn't find enough benchmarks or information about its performance and I know these are old cards and etc, but they're on my performance target for the money I can pay on a card. My GTX 760 died, so the 560Ti 2Win has to be at least better than my GTX 760. So how do they perform?
