Hi there, Firstly just want to say I've been doing research around my PC build for several months now and Linus' platform and videos have been the go-to for every question I've had. Brilliant site, amazing resource, a big thank you! I'm currently building a PC for GPU rendering/3D animation/video editing/visual effects etc. I was set on having two GTX 1080 Ti FE's however I have heard that there have been some overheating issues with these. I've been looking around for alternatives which have cooling included and came across another three which interest me: Zotac GTX 1080 Ti Amp Extreme GTX 1080 Ti SC2 HYBRID GAMING iCX GTX 1080 Ti 11GB FTW3 GAMING I am genuinely lost in the hype-term marketing bullshit of the hardware world and would appreciate if someone could just advise me on which one to get for general 3D animation/dynamics/GPU rendering/video editing etc. I've seen all three being branded as 'gaming' cards at some point or another , regardless I know they can still be used for 3D animation, but is there a 1080Ti out there which is more tailored to what I do?? If not, apart from price and clock-speed why should I buy one over the other? Any help is appreciated, many thanks in advance.

Hi, I was planning to buy a hybrid card and change the fan on the radiator for a silentwings 3, so my only concern is pump noise, I know that on my friends evga 980ti hybrid it's pretty loud so do you know on the 1080ti's which one is more silent in the pump side? Thanks

I am having trouble with 1080ti SLI, I have a HB bridge and a 1500 watt power supply and an i7 7700k (Z270 chipset) from intel CPU plus 32gb ram, my motherboard is an Asus Maximus IV formula which fully supports Nvidia SLI. If you look at the attached documents you can see my default settings for the Nvidia control panel as well as the GeForce experience settings and Nvidia optimized settings for GTA V. With these optimized settings I am still getting lower FPS and more stuttering that with a single card. can you help me out to change the settings so I can get smoother gameplay and higher FPS. I know I shouldn't expect double the FPS but I shouldn't be getting less FPS

Hello folks, I seem to have a problem "could be normal" When I turn on my Witcher 3 game on ultra setting and play for a bit that temprature on my GPU stays on 84c. Is that normal? keep in mind that my GPU is founder edition EVGA so i didn't expect great cooling. My case fan setting is set to positive. 3 120 fans for intake and 1 140 fan for outtake from the back.

Saw this on Hexus and thought it was funny and horrible on the naming... http://hexus.net/tech/news/graphics/105250-evga-geforce-gtx-1080-ti-sc2-gaming-hybrid-icx-introduced/ I mean the only thing on this shot that is not a part of the product name is the 'water cooled perfection'. Otherwise, I think that this might be trying to compete for the longest named GPU on the market... Love that there are 4 or 5 trademark logos on the graphic here for the name.

I'm a part time gamer but my rig is not up to the mark. Upgrading to a newer decent rig will cost about $2000 which is alot over budget. So should I get a 1080 to or some other top notch card so that it comes handy whenever i upgrade in the future? Help please!!!!!!!

Hello Peps, First time here on Linustechtips, been lurking arround for years but never thought about asking something. Now i need some help with a hard decision. Been looking into buying a new video card, my old gtx 770 2gb is not doing its deed anymore.Im also upgrading from 1080p to 1440p. Planned on buying the 27" (68,58cm) Dell S2716DG black 2560x1440. First i thought maybe a gtx 1080 is enough but after looking through benchmarks and such, a gtx 1080ti should be alot better for my needs (1440p 144hz gsync) So now lets get to the meat: First I looked through every Gtx 1080ti and the two that had a relative good price here in germany are the: 1: ZOTAC GeForce GTX 1080 Ti AMP! Extreme Core Aktiv (762€) 2: Inno3D GeForce GTX 1080 Ti iChill X4 Aktiv (788€) The cards from Palit are also pretty “cheap” but the two above are the strongest video memory clock wise (Zotac 11200mhz and Ino3d 11402mhz) There is also another Zotac card which has around 40mhz more gpu clock but costs around 100€ more, its even called the same but without “Core active” (ZOTAC GeForce GTX 1080 Ti AMP Extreme Aktiv) The Msi gtx 1080ti is also around the same price 788€ Asus is a lot more expensive and Gigabyte has also 3 different priced cards with each having a bit more frequency. Hope someone can help me with finding a good gtx 1080ti, its my first time buying a really really high end card. Before I always stood with 200-400€ video cards from AMD or Nvidia. Waiting for Vega is also no option anymore, ive been waiting for around one year now and I don’t care anymore about AMD. Im willing to pay the price nvidia wants, atleast they have something to show and not just boost how great their cards are without anything to back it.

So a while back, I finally made the switch from console to PC and actually built my own system for the first time. And since the GPU driving it all was the GTX 1070 Superclocked by EVGA, I also expressed a desire to upgrade my monitor. My intention was to simply get a second 1080p monitor, though with a 144hz refresh rate. Instead, I'm unexpectedly gifted a brand-new 4K display, the ASUS MG24UQ. Unsurprisingly, I immediately fell in love with it and wouldn't trade it for the world. I was shocked by the difference in image quality even in programs as simply and visually bland as MS Word. However, the shameless graphics whore part of my brain is now in full effect, because now that I've actually seen what games can look like in 4K, playing them in 1080p on my new monitor makes them look annoyingly blurry, and the GTX 1070 has thus far proven incapable of hitting a stable 60fps at 4K even with the settings dialed down massively, and on older games to boot! Both Mass Effect 3 and Alan Wake were basically unplayable when I dialed the resolution up to 4K, and that honestly drives me a bit crazy. So now that Nvidia has released the GTX 1080ti, I've been very seriously considering making the upgrade. However, I can really only justify this upgrade if I sell my current 1070, and since I'm still incredibly new to the whole custom PC/PC Gaming world, I have utterly no idea how to go about this or what kind of price I can reasonably ask. Anyone have any tips/advice to offer?

Well I built a pc and it uses the LGA2011-v3 socket but the new Skylake-X ans Kaby Lake-X series will be using a new chipset and socket so if i plan on upgrading will there be and hope for CPUs based on the LGA2011-v3 socket or is Intel not planning to release andy newer CPUs based on that socket and the X99 chipset? If I really need to upgrade should I go for a Xeon CPU as many Xeons use the LGA 2011-v3 socket? Also, upgrading my GPU should I get another Strix GeForce GTX 1080 and run it in SLi or should I buy the Titan X Pascal? WIll the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti be a viable option?

Hi, I'm looking for the maximum performance, And I don't know that much about GPUs but I've been looking into getting the "Best" And I came by the: GeForce GTX 1080 Ti Zotac AMP! Extreme http://www.game-debate.com/hardware/index.php?gid=3859&graphics=GeForce GTX 1080 Ti Zotac AMP! Extreme Which seems the best GPU on the market, With its clock speeds being: Core Speed 1645 / MHz Boost Clock 1759 MHz But it's rather bulky and large so I kept looking for something from the same clock speeds and came by the: GeForce GTX 1080 Ti Gigabyte AORUS Xtreme Edition 11GB With its clock speeds being: Core Speed 1607 MHz / MHz Boost Clock 1721 MHz It seems less bulky. And before buying, I checked with a friend and he told me the: evga geforce gtx 1080 ti kingpin But this card has a clock speed of: Core Speed 1582 MHz / MHz Boost Clock 1695 MHz so I am at a loss what to get?.. Any tips,

Okay so here is my issue I'll start with hardware and break this up into section to make it easier to follow. ___________________________________________________________________________________ Hardware: AMD Threadripper 1950x @4.040 ghz Asrock Taichi x399 Nvidia GTX 1080ti @ 2.066 ghz single stick 16gb ddr4 2133 mhz Samsung evo 850 250 gb toshiba 2tb 7200rpm seagate expansion desk HDD 5tb ____________________________________________________________________________________ Issue: So I heard the threadripper was the ultimate chip for megatasking. You can stream game and encode a video all at oonce with no issue... Well heres my issue, and maybe I have problems with obs but I game at 4k (as one would if they paid a few thousand for their computer and setup). So well use OW as an example streaming at 1080p 60fps bit rate of 5500 and cpu preset for x264 encoding @veryfast/faster. With all 16 cores enabled I drop frames in game (sometimes down to 20 or less), cpu sits around 50-70% usage, but I have encoding overload! I also have this weird glitch where my game will look like it freezes (or the monitor rather) where it will freeze frame, audio will play and I still have movement control of my character. I know the character is still moving because on the stream there is no freeze frame. So as far as hardware, even if I go to stream at 4k I hit encorder overload, cpu is at 70% gpu is 80-90%... and frames are literally unplayablly low. I have the ryzen masters software and I tried disabling some cores and that helped with the dropped frames but made the freeze frame so much worse. I have heard that the logitech c290e can cause problem in obs with the encoding, I have not tried decreasing its quality. _________________________________________________________________________________________ My Thoughts: My immediate though is my memory speed is too slow, ddr4 2133 is too slow, I know I am not hitting 100% memory usage, it stays around 60% when streaming. I WOULD NOT BE OPPOSED TO UPDGRADING RAM BASED ON SUGGESTIONS FOR MY CONFIGURATION. How is it possible I am dropping frames and freeze framing in game while streaming if none of my cpu cores are pinned and my gpu isnt pinned at 100% usage. FYI: Since cpu and gpu are water cooled on push pull configs temps stay stupid low, gpu peaks at 51C after constant 100% load, and CPU never climbs out of the 40C's for my usual work loads. __________________________________________________________________________________________ TL;DR I have a crazy computer, insane hardware, usage both cpu and gpu are not at 100% but I am dropping frames in game along with a hardware encoding overload on x264 encoding. My initial reaction is that it is ram. I appreciate all responses and would be okay with people personally contacting me on my cell/personal email. I can attach pictures of HWiNFO64 if needed, screenshots of obs, and maybe a link to a stream vod/youtube video to show the freeze frame not translating to the stream.

I am going to buy a gtx 1080ti for my new coffee lake build this November but I don’t know if I should buy it now or later. Right now Fry’s electronics has the Asus Strix GTX 1080ti OC edition for $20 off msrp at 779, which is a decent deal. I was wondering if it would be worth holding out to cyber Monday/Black Friday for better deals or should I just take that one. I am trying to save as much as possible, but don’t know if holiday deals are actually that good on GPUs.

So I got a really good deal of Kijiji and purchased a 1080ti FE. Catch was that the seller had lost all the screws for the stock FE cooler. It came with the g12 and x42 installed. Card runs with no problems. However I think the cooler is either not doing its job properly or I am expecting too much. I already reapplied thermal paste and no change. Card is idling between 35c and 40c. Load of course is 85c, which is max of GPU Boost. However, it goes up fast and clock speeds settles in at 1600-1700. Pump is set to performance in CAM. NZXT G12 or x42 not as good as reviews lead us to believe? Not sure why, bad AIO? Any ideas?

A cheaper one definately but which one is really good which one acn keep the temp down if a gtx 1080ti is in there ?

Hi, my name might be familiar around here, I've made a lot of topics to try and help me find the right specs. I want a white and black GTX 1080 TI build that contrasts nicely, my budget is no more than $1700. If possible, please make the GPU be the ASUS STRIX OC variant.. Feel free to improve upon other submitted builds; and why it is an improvement. Cheers, Shane.

I am planning on building a gaming rig with coffee lake, specifically for playing project cars 2 on Oculus, and when I looked up benchmarks, the difference between an i5 and i7, and the difference between a 1080 and a 1080ti were both about the same. I can’t afford both an i7 and a 1080ti, so should I get an i5 8600k and a 1080ti, or an i7 8700k and a 1080? Thanks in advance for the help. Link to benchmarks: https://www.overclock3d.net/reviews/software/project_cars_2_pc_performance_review/8 edit: I am not that interested in ryzen. I would already have one if I was.
