I'm trying to build a giveaway page from the ground up on twitter and I know a logo could help me go a long way.. If anyone's bored and wants to make a sexy graphic with the phrase @DerpGiveaways I would be very grateful x) A black/grey/white colour scheme would be preferred Thanks in advance in case anyone actually does feel like doing this

Hello all, I've been meaning to do one of the most important things when about to design anything... Research. Basically I'd love to hear what you guys want in a case when you're on the search to ensure you buy the correct one to show off that build. Is it windows? radiator mounts? modular design? space? What is it that is normally the selling point for you? Over the years case designs have changed quite a lot actually, most cases produced now have watercooling in mind be it AIO or custom loop, larger cases where a selling point 4 years ago now it's all about that M-itx square look. If you had the change to have someone like me design you a case... what would you ask for? Consumers! Have your say! Maybe one day it shall be built? Anyway to recap. if you could have your very own case, what would it be what are you favorite off the shelf cases? Bigger? or smaller? radiator mounts? or just air cooling depth? HDD on show or hidden? 5.25" bays? how many? none? hidden PSU? Let me know what you think.

So I noticed that for CS6 and above <Adobe> Windows 8 and 8.1 have some type of bug that is incompatible with the programs; as a result, you have to limit the GPU by switching it to Basic mode, which limits you severely if you go to render or perform high quality edits. Should I downgrade to Windows 7 and deal with it, or do I keep 8.1 and hope that a solution emerges from Adobe? Combine this with other bugs between other design programs and I'm not exactly sure if I should downgrade or not. Any advice would be welcome. P.S. This is a brand new build, so data or incompatibility shouldn't be an issue.

Just wondering if we can get a review from Linus for this Notebook/Ultrabook Seems like a too good to be true deal. Thin, Attractive, moderately powerful with what appears to be a good quality IPS display panel? Thoughts from the community welcome. I'm a graphic design student and a gamer and I'm trying to figure out if this could be the godsend for me as someone who refuses to work on or pay for a macbook.

Hi! I'm looking to buy a new monitor for myself and I just don't know which to go for. The monitor is mainly going to be used for graphic design (photoshop/c4d) at an hobbyist level. I've been looking at the ASUS MX27AQ, but I'm not 100% sure about it! Your thoughts?

Hello, anyone knows if i can calibrate my monitor to see the real print colors aka CYMK, thanks!

hi my aunt just got a job in graphic design she says she has to have at least 3 tabs open at once So I decided she needs i7 at least maybe 8gbs of ram and 1080p Also I am writing this on a iPad so sorry if it sucks . I thought of a Asus ROG G750JM-DS71 anything that would do pretty good for graphic design Also her business will buy it no matter how much it costs

Hey guys, So I was going to buy an Asus desktop but figured I could build my own. I haven't followed the latest tech so I have no clue what's good or not... d. I'm in the US, buget is about $1400. I am running two 23" IPN monitors (might add a third one). I am a dev + graphic designer but do a lot of photo editing and some gaming as well (minecraft and the likes). I'd like something super fast (booting) for windows 7 or 8. And somehow silent. Thanks for your help/input!!!

Hello everyone, For the last two months I'm planning to build a new budget workhorse and now I'm waiting for black friday to get some great deals. I'll answer the standard points first: 1. Budget & Location - Europe, budget between $500-600. Items here have newegg prices +10-20% more expensive, so you can keep that in mind. 2. Aim I mainly design web pages in Photoshop and do small graphic design tasks in Illustrator. My usual work is made from Chrome with lots of tabs open, Photoshop and Illustrator running non-stop and music in background. I hook up 2 monitors of 22inches and I'm planning on adding a third one. I don't do any 3D stuff, but I create lots of flyers, brochures, book covers + web stuff such as websites, banner ads etc. I'm an aspiring professional. 3. Monitors As I mentioned, I already have 2 monitors with a third one planned. 4. Peripherals I already have, no need for others. 5. Why am I upgrading I'm currently using a laptop with an i3-2330M, 8GB RAM 1333mhz, 60GB SSD + 500GB HDD, AMD Radeon 6490M graphics card. 6. What I have in plan & my problems: Planning to buy a desktop, but I honestly don't know what to choose between an i3 with a dedicated graphics card or an i5 and buy the graphics card later. I will also try to fit 16GB of RAM and two 120GB SSDs if money allows it and if I get a nice deal. Small chances, but I'm optimistic. If not, I will go with 8GB of RAM and an 120GB SSD + 1TB HDD. I don't have such a big need of an HDD mainly because I already have an external one where I keep my backups + other files, but having one SSD for OS, programs, scratch disk and another one for projects files sounds good to me. Can't do RAID though. So already bought this MSI motherboard and now I can't decide for a good processor that satisfies my needs. Please help, Thanks!

Hey guys im back again looking for yet another build this time a higher budget and for college looking for it to be compact with the bitfenix case ONLY USE THAT CASE IN ANY BUILD YOU RECOMMEND ME. also im going for a blue and white build to fit my current gear. Budget & Location Ok lets get started guys first off my budget for this build is 2k, i don't mind if its a 100 bucks over but anything else is a nah Location will be Canada, and i'm looking to buy the parts off amazon only since i has 3k and i'm buying a bunch of shit off amazon plus my build 2. Aim Looking for anything and everything, Photoshop coding, Cinema 4D, new games anything really.. playing and mixing a bit of audio as well. 3. Monitors I have about 5 monitors currently so il be sparing 3 of those for this computer. il be using a Sapphire Radeon R9 295X2 graphics card so that should do plus any other card you throw into the build if you feel its necessary. (btw that gcard is not in the budget so the computer / build you give me can still be within 2k) 4. Peripherals need windows 8 that is it. maybe a new keyboard but il buy that later. 5. Why are you upgrading? I'm not upgrading i'm just making a computer for my main jobs and giving my brother my computer i have now. gimme dem PCPARTPICKER LINKS MANG

Amazing eyeball 3D animation video called 'Eye Piece' by graphic artist Chris Jones using Lightwave, Sculptris and a smattering of Krita. It's amazxing how far we've advanced in technology to be able to animate in 3D one of the most complex parts of the human anotomy and have such amazingly realistic results. Article is from RedShark News. http://www.redsharknews.com/post/item/1458-this-is-how-you-animate-an-eyeball?page=1

Hello gurus of LinusTechTips, would you be so kind and look through the parts I've picked for my new Illustration / design / gaming PC. All suggestions, critiques and any other form of help is more than welcome. No parts are purchased yet. If the parts can be replaced with better and / or cheaper ones - please suggest that. Approximate Purchase Date: as soon as possible Budget Range: 1600 - 2000 USD // 4000 - 5100 Lt System Usage from Most to Least Important: illustration / graphic design ( Adobe Photoshop / Illustrator ), gaming, maybe learning ZBrush. Are you buying a monitor: No, I already have 2. Do you need to buy OS: No Preferred Website(s) for Parts: www.skytech.lt www.kilobaitas.lt www.varle.lt Location: Lithuania, Europe Overclocking: No - a stable system is a priority. SLI or Crossfire: No / Maybe a couple of years down the road. Your Monitor Resolution: Dell U2312 HM @ 1920 x 1080 + LG W2253V @ 1920 x 1080 Additional Comments: shooting for a stable and quiet PC. No need for internal color matching. Will be using Adobe Photoshop , Illustrator as main programs. No need for peripherals - I already have mouse (usb), keyboard (usb), speakers 2.1, Intuos 4 graphic tablet (USB), 2 portable Hdds (USB), Printer (USB). After 2 or more years I may be plugging in a Cintiq, but for the time being - still a dream. Why Are You Upgrading: This is a new build from scratch, because current 6 year old PC can't handle the dimensions and tasks as efficient as I would prefer. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Parts Preferences: Here's the full part list I've currently researched and picked Parts separately from my country's website: 1) Intel Core i7-4770 I wont be overclocking, thus the K'less processor. 2) Noctua NH-U14S - not yet in the store. Chosen in stead of stock, because of hot ambient temperatures during summer and lower internal temperatures on heavy load. // Was looking at be quiet! Dark Rock 2 too, but reviews say Noctua is better. 3) ASRock Z87 EXTREME4 or Asus z87 - A . I'm leaning towards ASRock because of more USB 3 ports. 4) DDR3 Crucial Ballistix 16GB (2x8GB) 1600MHz CL9 1.5V 5) DDR3 Crucial Ballistix 16GB (2x8GB) 1600MHz CL9 1.5V Two kits of 2x8GB is cheaper than 4x8GB 6) SSD Samsung 840 Evo Basic 250GB // 840 Pro is too pricy for the current situation. 7) WD Black 3.5'' 1TB SATA3 7200RPM 64MB 8) WD Black 3.5'' 1TB SATA3 7200RPM 64MB I could loose this second HDD and go just with 1, for the time being; although a second ( or more ) HDDs / SSDs will be added when the need comes. 9) ASUS GeForce GTX 770, 2GB DDR5 (256 Bit) /// The Quadro series doesn't look so appealing price / gaming wise. 10) Fractal Design Define R4 Titanium Grey Main question here is - will the 2 fans included be enough to reach nominal temperatures inside the case ( especially during summer, when temps in the room reach 30 Celsius ). Seems like positive pressure is the way to go, because of the graphics card. ( http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/cooling-air-pressure-heatsink,3058-5.html ) 11) PSU Seasonic M12II-620 620W 80 Plus Bronze Not sure about this pick, I want a reliable ( PC is on 14 - 16 hours a day ), quiet, efficient ( if the efficiency saves more than 1 - 2 dollars a month ) and (semi)modular power supply. 12) SAMSUNG SH-118BB/BEBE DVD-ROM/ 16x / SATA / Black No fancy dvd / blu-ray player here, just a basic disc reading / writing. Thank you in advance!

Hey all, Hopefully some of you recognize me by now - if not I'll give a quick intro. I'm Nick, the advertising/sales/misc. guy here at Linus Media Group. I've been working here full time since May. Now, as a disclaimer - I have NO experience in the world of graphic design or game design. We're trying to churn out even more content for you guys to consume, so Linus is starting to delegate some scripting for Fast as Possible to Taran and I. The first topic I got was ambient occlusion. Knowing nothing about the topic, I went straight to Wikipedia/Google and churned out a script. Before we post this to the channel, we want to make sure that the video will give an accurate and relatively easy to understand overview of ambient occlusion. Here is the script: Ambient occlusion is a term that is thrown around a lot in gaming and 3D rendering, but what is it and how does it work? First, let’s determine what occlusion means. The Collins World English Dictionary defines occlusion as “to block, stop up, or obstruct. So, for our discussion today, we can comfortably describe occlusion as “the amount of obstruction there is between one point or region of a 3D scene and a light source. Now, let’s add the whole “ambient” part into the mix. From Wikipedia – “ambient occlusion is a render technique used to calculate how exposed each point in a scene is to ambient lighting. To expand on that, it is a global method of illuminating a scene, whereby each point is illuminated by taking all other geometry in the scene into account. Though shadows are not clearly defined, areas that are less exposed to direct or indirect light like corners appear dark and shadowy. Though it is more comprehensive than local methods like Phong shading (an early technique for approximating the shading of a smooth surface in 3D graphics), ambient lighting is still a very crude method of achieving global illumination – more on this later. Ok, so it’s a lighting effect that graphic designers and game developers use to add realistic shading to a scene. But how does it work, and why should I care? Ambient occlusion was first introduced to gaming in 2007 by the developers of Crysis. Due to hardware limitations, Crytek implemented a scaled-down version of ambient occlusion called Screen-Space Ambient Occlusion, or SSAO . SSAO works by using pixel depth rather than scene geometry to form an ambient occlusion map . It is a much more simple process, as it applies a somewhat realistic amount of occlusion to each pixel in relation to those around it rather than evaluating the shading of an entire scene based on a light source or multiple light sources. SSAO’s advantages include zero load time and no pre-processing. It works the same for every pixel on the screen, and it does not use your CPU at all . That’s right, it can add a huge amount of depth and complexity to a scene, and only ends up taxing the GPU. Pretty cool. It DOES have disadvantagess though – it will not represent the scene as accurately as true ambient occlusion would as it only takes what you can see on the screen into account, and there are some issues with accurately blurring and smoothing out noise without interfering with depth discontinuities like hard edges. It is certainly not the perfect solution. In 2009, we got an upgrade to SSDO – Screen-Space Directional Occlusion. This allowed game engines to calculate local indirect illumination, and cast directional shadows with the aid of an environment map. SSDO allowed for a wider variety of shades by taking the angle from which the light approaches the object as well as the bounce of the light off an object behind the initial object into account. This helps, but is still a far cry from true ambient occlusion. So we covered the approximations, but what would TRUE ambient occlusion look like? In a perfect world with uber computers, every aspect of a scene’s geometry would be taken into account – from your character’s model, to the bridge directly in front of you, all the way down to the tree 300 yards behind you. Light would bounce off all of these elements to create a photorealistic lighting model like the groundbreaking full global illumination method that Pixar implemented in Monsters U. Unfortunately rendering all of this in real time would be extremely taxing on your CPU, which is what makes it nearly impossible to achieve in games with modern technology. Some advances have been made through pre-rendering parts of the scene’s occlusion, like the occlusion caused by your character’s model and static objects in outdoor scenes, or by separating high-frequency, detailed ambient occlusion for objects close to your character from low-frequency ambient occlusion on distant objects, but we are still unable to render true ambient occlusion in real time… So for now we’ll have to deal with the approximations… First world problem, right? Sorry for the wall of text... Anyone who knows about ambient occlusion - is this relatively correct? Does it explain the topic relatively well? Keep in mind that there will be a lot of pics/diagrams to support the explanation. Thanks guys, Nick

Hey guys it's me again! Yesterday I've designed my minimalistic tech youtubers design which was really successful (you can find the video below). A lot of you loved it and a lot of you also wanted me to design Linus in this style, so I did just that for you + added Luke. I hope you will like it! It took me about 3 hours to make. I've also added some t-shirt mockups and if you really like them, Linus is more than welcome to contact me regarding the implementation of my designs on their website, t-shirts and etc.. Feel free to download these wallpapers and use them as your desktop background. (both are 4K ) The Final Design: Close up version: Here are 2 t-shirt mockups I've made: I worked hard to bring you those designs and I hope you like them! Here is the initial minimalistic tech youtubers video. Thanks, Artur K.

Aim I am building a new computer for graphic design purposes (mainly in Photoshop, InDesign and Ilustrator). While I do not want choose any side atm, I would prefer staying with nVidia and intel for I have been using them for the past few generations. Budget and Location It is not meant for me, but I will be building it and setting it up. Keep in mind that I live in Europe, Czech Republic and some specific things might not be available to me, so try to keep with big brands. The budget of now is around 1600 US$ + 1000 US$ for the monitor (which in my currency is 30.000 czk + 20.000 czk). No case is needed. Monitor The monitor is not important, but if you know a good pre-calibrated monitor, than be sure to post it. I've already found some good Eizo's that are 27' with 2560x1440, which so far are the best options. There will possibly be a second monitor that we already own, which is probably running at something like 1280x1024. Reason for upgrade The old computer is old and outdated. Cannot reuse pretty anything except for the case, which is a necessity (can give measurements for CPU coolers if needed). I had a few ideas myself, but being a gamer, I'm not really sure what is preferred in this type of scenario, except for the bigger demand on CPU power rather than GPU power. Thanks for any answers. (btw no custom watercooling for this build)

Hi Folks, I'm very lost on this topic, I know most Design schools teach on Mac's. Would I be lost using Windows with the hot keys using Photoshop or the Coding program? I don't want the teaching explaining something using a Mac but I'm lost using windows. I have access to Mac's but have been a Windows user since 95 but feel I'm limited with design programs as I'm looking to build some cool features & most design company's only use Mac's too. It's so Confusing  My second Career plan. -two years learning Photoshop with a Degree -two years learning Web development with a Degree My theory is having something to offer, I want to start and finish that eCommerce site...knowing my code is clean and the images are perfect. I was shocked only folks "learn one or the other". I also have many design features I want to build that haven't happened yet in the boring plain eCommerce landscape Everything is clean and "Crisp" where's the WOW factor now to remember that site. I'm just really looking for help thank you
