Hey all, my friend is a graphics designer. He needs a new laptop and he's very interested in the new xps 15 with coffee lake and a gtx 1050ti, he would like 4k and a super colour accurate display for around 2300 dollars. I'm not quite sure what to recommend. He has a wacom drawing pad that he uses and he doesn't have an issue with storage. He says 16 gig ram is preferable and an option for thunderbolt 3 to use his 1070 externally would be ideal. I thought maybe if he got an Asus gaming laptop with a 1070 and an 8750H for instance and used an external monitor for colour sensitive work that might be an option worth considering. What's your guys opinions?

I know there is probably a better place for this but I have no idea where to look, so if anyone knows please give me a link, but for now, I need a new logo for my twitch streaming group, we used a "free" logo making site that actually had free in the url but we then found out it was not free and I just used snipping tool and got a low resolution copy of it but if we want to use it for anything that will show up bigger than 1 inch by 1 inch (or 2.54 cm by 2.54 cm) it will be clearly pixelated and it is almost useless and we have just dealt with it for about 5 days but now we need a new one, it needs to be high resolution and have a transparent background. We want something similar to what we have, we like what we have but the high resolution copies are 40 USD and we are just starting out and none of us have jobs, it's me and two other people, one is 11 years old, one is 20 or 30 something and had a medical discharge from the US military because he broke his back and he is still looking for a job, and im 13. The color scheme is grey and black with green accents, I would like sort of a razer green color but something similar to what we have would be fine too. i will attach our current logo for reference and we need it to be a gas mask and say fear somewhere around it. I don't know why there is yellow but i'd prefer it not be there but if it looks better with yellow maybe send me a copy with and one without. Hey guys, I am a newbie in building PCs. I have never made a build or choose parts by myself but now I need to make a PC for my own (I am a graphic designer, digital & marketing specialist). This is the first time I chose parts for a build and I want to be sure it will work fine & without any problems. That's why I need your advice. I need the PC mainly for graphic design & content creation except the regular stuff (browsing, documents creation & managing, watching movies, listening music and etc., but NOT gaming). Programs that will need to be work with on regular basis on the machine: - every day - mainly Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, After Effects, Corel DRAW, Adobe Bridge & some printing software; - weekly or monthly (with an intention to be more often) - Solid works, 3D max, Fusion, Realflow, Xara, Blender 3D and some other for video editing, 3D and animation. This PC will be used for over 12 hours a day, 7 days a week. It is needed to be stable, really fast and secured machine for some more years from now on (I will probably not have the opportunity to change it after 2-4 years as I need other equipment to get in addition as drawing tablet, laptop for meeting with clients, etc.). I tried to choose trusted producers for the each part and make a balance build as currently I have a limited budget. In future I intend to upgrade it through adding a second monitor, more RAM (about 32GBs), a second SSD and may be an additional traditional HDD. Currency: USD Budget: $1800 (But the cheaper the better by far) Parts Needed: Everything. Building from scratch. Aim: I am building this system for my mother to use photoshop and premiere pro as well as audio editing software. No gaming capabilities needed whatsoever. It just needs to run photoshop and premiere flawlessly. I have built pcs before so I really just need a parts list. Any and all other advice is welcome. I would like her to be able to use this PC for years to come, so please don't suggest outdated components for price's sake. She's been a iMac user for years. Hers recently flat-out died, so they were trying to give her a "Deal" on this upgrade. From an iMac Desktop, to a 13 inch macbook pro with a 2.6 GHz i5 boosted to 3.6 GHz, integrated graphics (Intel Iris Plus Graphics 640), 16 GB 2133MHz DDR3 RAM, and 128 GB SSD storage FOR $1768.00! I immediately told her this was an absolute rip-off and asked her to let me build her a PC. I may be wrong, but this price seemed ridiculous. Monitor: Only one. The best you can possibly get her while remaining within budget, but 1080p minimum of course. PC internals take priority. Cooling: Liquid cooling would be great if possible within budget, (for silence's sake). If you think this is unnecessary and ridiculous, let me know, I just love how silent my rig is, and I know she would notice fans running with how silent her previous iMac was. NO RGB LIGHTING REQUIRED OR WANTED... obviously. Peripherals: Mouse and keyboard needed. (Keyboard as similar to an iMac keyboard as possible) Also need a case. Hey I'm looking for a fairly slim, high-resolution screen bearing laptop mainly for my graphic design work at college. I've heard good things about the new Razer Blades as well as the Dell Inspiron laptops, but the latter seems to be a bit out of my price range when spec'd up. I'm looking to spend a max of £1,500. Hello everyone! I am currently in need of a new laptop and I want to make sure that whatever I get fits my needs. I mainly do photo editing, no video for now, but need something that is very mobile. For the most part, most of my editing involves basic adjustments, dodging and burning, adjusting contrast, stuff like that which makes me think I may not need dedicated graphics. In some rare instances, I do use a Wacom tablet for more intense photoshop stuff and currently experience a lot of input lag. I might look into trying some graphic design in the near future so I do not want to limit myself too much on the GPU side either. I know there isn't a "Perfect" laptop that does it all but I would like to find a nice balance. I currently have a spreadsheet with some of the different laptops I've been looking at. I have been doing some research and I am still slightly unclear on the advantages and disadvantages to the higher resolution laptops. I am a graphic designer and am in desperate need of a quality laptop for college but what is the difference in QHD to UHD is it worth upgrading to 4K or to stay at 3K resolution? Thanks

Hi guys, I'm planning on building a desktop for using adobe suite programs mainly photoshop and illustrator. I've had experience building a gaming desktop but I'm not sure what to focus my resources on for this kind of build. Should I spend the most on graphics card or CPU? How much RAM should I put and SSD vs. HDD?

So I am currently designing a PC for my brother. He works at a fortune 500 company doing graphic design and various other things on his now 5-year-old computer. He has been saving so his budget is around two thousand give or take a couple hundred. I created a build on PC part picker (http://pcpartpicker.com/list/ggQMZ8) but the main question I have is whether he will need a better graphics card or more graphics cards to run 2 4k monitors at 60hz each. He mainly focusing on adobe applications, but he will be working with a couple 3d design apps as well as running aftereffects and some more intensive video and graphic design editors. He usually runs about 2-4 applications at once so that's also something to consider. His main concern is that with his current computer load times for boot up and opening applications are really slow. I think that an SSD will solve that but I don't know if anyone recommends an m.2 drive.

Hi everybody, so I'm building this new rig for my office already bought the ram 32 gigs 3000 mhz I decided not to buy an i7 because I am not gonna work with 3D editing or video editing only Photoshop and Illustrator, I'm not gonna use this PC for gaming neither, just work anyway, should I buy the i5 non-k? or the 'k' version, will I notice the difference in performance when overclocking the 'k' version? I am torn. and I have come to the linus tech tips forum for help! I have been using a PC for the longest time. My current rig is: intel i7 950k 128gb SSD (with 1tb and 3tb SATA drives for offloading projects and files) XFX Radeon 7970 Double D video card Sabertooth X58 motherboard 16 gigs of DDR3 ram currently running 2 24" benQ gaming monitors. I am moving away from being a hardcore gamer (lets face it though, from time to time i'll still play the odd game here and there) and have even thought of going to the darkside, and getting an iMac. I have been looking at widescreen monitors specifically for editing video, working in after effects and adobe premeire, it seems like a single monitor set up may work better for me. There are a couple things hindering me right now: a) iMacs are extremely expensive, and i'd pretty much have to sell my current rig to buy one, or come in contact with a random gift some stranger left me in the form of $3,000. b) update my current rig, as i havnt updated the CPU in about 5 years, nor have i updated the motherboard. c) my current video card isnt nVidia, and cannot comprehend ray-tracing very well, and has some issues there. (mostly missing out on CUDA) d) my monitors are gaming monitors, which I dont think make such a big deal, but when it comes to editing videos / photos, i need a good color range. I am fairly new to all this, and would love everybodies expertise. I am willing to do some upgrades, and have a price range of about $1200. Thanks

I'm looking for a budget laptop that can play today's games at low to medium setting and be able to do graphic design. I'm looking in the price range of $600 to $900 (USD).

I apologize in advance for the length, but I hope you can please bare with me. I'm putting a lot of money into a laptop, so I want to make sure I cover all bases and make the best decision I can. I'm trying to decide between two computers that will be used for graphic design, heavy adobe usage - Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, etc, as well as some web design work and occasional usage of After Effects. I have the Adobe Master Collection CS6 installed on my current computer. I have it narrowed down between these two computers: ASUS ROG G751-DH71 MSI GS70 Stealth Pro-072 I saw great reviews for both of these, by LinusTechTips, on YouTube, but I'm still having a hard time determining if one is better for graphic design, over the other, or if both would work equally as good. I've had my current computer 5 years and just this year, the video card can no longer handle what I'm throwing at it. I'm hoping my next computer will be just as good to me, with an obvious upgrade here and there, but I have a hard time understanding the technical hardware specs and I don't have the budget to be replacing my computer or upgrading parts on a regular basis, so I'm hoping I can get some help and opinions from those who do understand these specs better than me. From what I can tell, ASUS has better video memory - 4GB GDDR5 vs 3GB GDDR5 on the MSI. Is this a huge difference? The ASUS also has Nvidia GeForce GTX 980M vs 970M on the MSI. From what I'm researching both are good, but it sounds like the 980 has a good lead in better performance. The ASUS can be expanded to 32GB Ram, while the MSI Stealth maxes out at 16GB. I'm confused on this one. The salesmen at the stores are telling me that anything beyond 16gb ram is overkill, but when I look online, they say at least 24GB ram for graphic design. When I checked my ram usage, I had Illustrator running, Photoshop, virtualbox, InDesign, After Effects and Flash. I also opened a 1.4GB Photoshop file, while also trying to open a large Illustrator file and ran my AE video. At the moment, with all these programs and files open, just sitting there, and me just typing in this forum, my ram usage is at 10GB. Of course this is an extreme situation, but not an unrealistic one. It will probably shoot up as I work in these programs, so maybe maxing at 16GB is a problem. The MSI Stealth has a 5th generation Intel processor, while the ASUS only has a 4th generation. From my research, it sounds like there's not a whole lot of difference between the two? My other main concern is the memory card reader, which I use quite often. The MSI supports SDXC, SD and SDHC, while the ASUS only supports SD and MMC. Is that just a wording difference? MSI decided to list out the different SD types and maybe ASUS decided to cover all under the term SD? I have an SDXC in my camera - will the ASUS be able to read that? I'm told the ASUS has a better screen - IPS - but looking at both of them in the store, they both seem equally as good. ASUS also has something called a Thunderbolt port? Since I don't know what this is, I'm guessing it's not a spec I need to worry about. ASUS CON I read that the audio quality is bad. I couldn't really test the audio in the store. I heard the soft touch wears off after a couple months - will this make the computer look horrible? MSI CON No internal DVD drive. Despite what the norm is, I still use the DVD drive, but this isn't a deal breaker, I could get an external drive. I just don't like the fact that the external drive would take up a USB port. I already have one taken up by a bluetooth receiver for a mouse and an external hard drive, A flash drive for whatever I'm working on at the moment and I need a spare one for pulling resources or files from other flash drives. With an external DVD drive, I don't have this spare. Any help you guys could give me, to help me decide, would be GREATLY appeciated!!! I welcome all feedback and opinions!
