I have a Netgear 5-port unmanaged switch (GS605) that I'm attempting to connect to my Nest Wifi. The whole network ran flawlessly until I had to factory reset the Nest Wifi. After I got my mesh network up and running, I tried to plug the switch in and it immediately killed the internet connection. Wireless network was still up, just no internet. I unplugged the switch and the internet connection returned. I hardwire my computer directly into the Nest Wifi, but that leaves 3 devices with no hardwire connection. Is this a setting with the router? The switch is unmanaged so it can't be that (I think). Maybe my NIC?

I know, this is extremely idiotic of me to ask. I need to help a friend out with the situation and it matters alot They know the google account email and passwords but have lost the SIM that is associated with the 2FA on the account. No email is set up for a backup and when following up with the relevant options on googles recovery page, we are led to this. I am fairly certain that any other details associated with the account are also known but just can't seem to make any use of them in recovery. No backup codes have been set for this email either (yes I know). Is there any way I can make use of any of the other details on this account or haggle my way through?

Summary The Tech Giant Google has isolated the compute core which does data processing like speech recognition. Also The Tech giant has decided to add a feature that allows you to decide what a app can track. My thoughts I doubt that Google did this out of their own kindness, rather I reckon that they did this to rival Apple as privacy is becoming a must have features for customers. Summary Alphabet's Loon, which provided internet from balloons, is shutting down. For their current operations, they say that they hope their employees can find an alternative at other alphabet companies. They also are pledging $10 million to help boost connectivity in Kenya. Not all of the technology will be forgotten, Project Taara will continue to use technology from Loon. Alphabet's X projects, such as Loon, Wing, and Waymo, are 'moonshot' companies, and they remind everyone that for every one idea that works, there will be many that don't. My thoughts Loon was a very ambitious idea. But with every new technology there will be problems. Competitors pop up with less problems and a longer-lasting solution. Starlink and other technologies with the same goal as Loon's, to provide affordable internet to remote areas, are being improved upon and ganging public interest. A couple of days ago my Crestron Prodigy systems brain went out. We can not use our whole house audio system. I was thinking of either getting a Sonos amp for each room, a cheap integrated 2ch amp for each room and hooking them up to a chrome cast. What is the best solution? We have 6 rooms controlled (2 4 zone amps), and each room does not have more than 2 in ceiling Polk audio speakers. Also need a keypad to control input and volume in each room. Would like to keep under 3000, unless there is a excellent option that is over that price. If you are wondering I am replacing the switches with Lutron Caseta dimmers and I am going to control them with the google home app.

After a very Long Time India's google products are reported down. Services like YouTube, Gmail, Google Drive, Google Meet(the most important during online classes, many schools stopped at once), Google Classroom, Google Calendars, Google Play, Google Maps(Ubers in India has stopped now) and every other google based product in India has stopped. Google has never been down in Southern and Southeastern Asia for so long. This shows that something serious is happening in their servers. Summary Google is down in India, never had been down for a very long time. Down from 5:15 pm IST (or) 11:15 am GMT till the time of posting this issue. Quotes My thoughts This issue has never happened before, all google services going down in a relatively stable region. This is interesting to me because, whatever may be the issue; major corporations like Google should have backups if something ever fails. But, corporations are going above the line in the name of cost cutting and maximising margins. Summary Google services seem to be down in multiple areas, with no uniform characteristics known. YouTube is almost uniformly out everywhere, whereas other services like Docs, Meet, Classroom, Assistant seem to be a hit or miss depending on various locations. Mostly Error 503 (Server Maintenance, Overload), which is not a problem Google should face. Account related services have issues, so YouTube will still work on Incognito Mode. Mostly back... Google has also released an official tweet on the reason of the outage, alluding to "internal storage quota issue". My thoughts Shocking, and might come with repercussions, mostly on the end of services reliant on Google Cloud. 45 minutes was a bit long and must have been deep rooted. Still waiting for repercussions to come up. Meanwhile, the internet does not lose any satire. And Google employees can't login either. The fact that this affected home security tools is scary, man. Those reliant on Google for home security really took a vulnerable hit there! Could call this 2020's season finale! I feel happy that LMG has floatplane, because they would have been considerably hit by this revenue loss if not for Floatplane serving as a cushion. Also, it's funny that Google "ran out of shortage". Explains the 503 Error code being served on most pages! Moreover, seems like Google's running out of storage. They are aggressively deleting old accounts that have been unresponsive for 2+ years, deleting trash after 30 days, and ending Photos unlimited storage. All these storage saving measures and a storage related outage point to one thing: We might be nearing the point of saturation of the internet. Are there any good stock, pure and clean Android phones beside the Google Pixel?
-
I'm currently choosing between iPhone 11 and Google Pixel 5. Both costs around 750 USD here in Sweden. I use both iPhones and Android phones and have no preference when it comes to iOS and Android. I'm planning to use this phone for the next 4 years or so. Which one do you think has a better battery life, and which one has a better camera?

So I just got the Surface Duo and I am really liking it so far, except for one little thing: How do I swap out the M365 feed for the Google one? (the little news feed you get when you swipe from the left on the home screen) There was someone on Reddit who claimed they did it, but they're not answering. Hopefully you guys can help me figure it out. Thanks in advance! Much Love <3

Common Questions: *Any virus or spyware found post install? (NO, checked with Malwarebytes, Dr.webs & Kaspersky) *Firmware might have to be downgraded on late batch phones? (that is indeed a maybe) *GMS works and can safely be updated? (YES, just search for it in browser and let it send you to the right place in the play store) *Google Payment system named Google Pay. (NO, Google has aditional security features so that is a no go...) *Severe bugs or glitches? (Nothing yet but I have been looking deliberately!) Firmware downgrade (only if method above fails)

Summary The US Department of Justice is suing Google over monopolizing it’s power with internet searches. This is part of an investigation that has been going on for some time. If this suit follows through and wins, this can hurt Google’s advertising business. Quotes My thoughts This is a very bold step of the US government to do on Google. As we heard a few days ago, this may break up Google by them having to sell parts of their business, i.e. Google Chrome, YouTube. I don’t know if this is going to be better or worse but we will have to see what goes down in this lawsuit. Google has woken up them their daydream. Daydream VR software is no longer supported, officially announced via Google's support page for Daydream VR, ciitng that there will be no more software nor security updates for any Daydream device. This comes after Google announced Android 11 as its latest Android operating system update, with Google abruptly ending its own virtual reality project. This also comes after Google had initially lost support from Hulu as well as removing the Play Movies & TV app for its Daydream headset, it was clear from these two feature shavings that the Daydream was evitably a dead-end project. Google does cite that third-party apps and experiences within Daydream have a possibility of being available as standalone apps in the Play Store, but cannot guarantee these apps to work properly on some devices running Android 11, or in the future, even later evolutionary Android versions. Additionally, Google has noted that the Daydream View headset and controller will still be available for use with VR content, however, the Daydream View headset is officially no longer on sale. VR can be fun, and I occasionally take out my Desktek VR headset for use with my Samsung S20 in 1440p mode, VR is definitely not for everyone, and especially with how limited Daydream was and/or became in its later state, it's understable Google decided to axe another one of its products. VR is a very niche market and Google has clearly had enough of integrating into a market that has very little room for growth. Source: Google

Summary According to a large Indian media Publication, there are rumors that the Government is planning to launch it's own app store as alternative to Google and Apple's app stores. According to the news report, the Ministry of Electronics and Information technology's centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) will be responsible for developing it. Also rumored: It will not take the 30% cut for app hosting. Quotes My thoughts India has entered the internet market later than many countries, and is now finding a way to centralize it, and get away from antitrust by taking matters in their own hand. Also, the Govt. has seen the potential for Ai and other emerging fields, and wants to serve as the incubator for such projects, and is thus trying to make it's own market free of US tech giants hands. Also, this means they have more control over the data of their citizens. recommendation New Phone Recommendations for my Mother
xTheSardine posted a topic in Phones and Tablets
My mother has had a Galaxy S9 for a while now and it's finally deteriorated so much that it's nearly unusable (even after I replaced the battery), but she doesn't want to get rid of it, my father and I are thinking of getting her a new phone for her birthday, and we could use some well thought out recommendations for her. She's turning 60, has only had an S4, and S7, and the S9 as smart phones go. She likes to take pictures with her phone a lot too. I know she's a little fed up with Bixby and and the Samsung Bloatware always bothered her. I've heard the bloat has gotten better in recent years so I'm sure she still like the similarity of a newer Samsung. She doesn't do anything that would need a powerhouse phone, needs to be able to call, text, take good pictures, look up recipes, use Facebook/Snapchat. That's about it. I'm a Pixel user, so I was thinking maybe something from the 'a' lineup, but that's just my bias talking. This is my first post here, I'm excited to be a part of this forum! -
internet Internet/browsing speed super slow on some devices
AlphaLazer posted a topic in Troubleshooting
So recently I've been having a super weird issue and I really need help with it. My network connection is a 75/20mbps connection which I achieve on my PC (connected through ethernet) just fine. Everything from browsing to downloading and watching videos is as it should be. On the TV in the lounge room Netflix can load 4k video easily and quickly with no Hassel. However, on my phone while my speedtest is 60/19mbps which is fine for wifi, and youtube twitch and discord load fine, things like loading Spotify search(songs are fine, search is slow), browsing Reddit, and etc will be super slow almost to the point of not working. After running a speedtest it loads, then after a minute or less, returns to not working. This problem is increased on my Google assistant, where nothing will load at all ever EXCEPT the ability to control my lights. What is going on???? I have tried rebooting google assistant, my phone and the wifi router, and I have factory reset google and my router and nothing worked. I also tried changing the DNS on my router but that also fixed nothing. -
Behind that search engine, there is a lot going on at Google, from how their search algorithm is done with pigeons, to the Google Gnome, and their most recent announcement of their 7 series Pixel. There is a lot of fascinating happening at Google, and the it just gets even better. Adding the newest (not really knew it was published 4 days before their Pixel) product to their list is the Google GBoard Stick Edition. Typing on it must be extremely fun when your buddies can join in and help you type that 50 page essay, but if you're going solo, perhaps typing like your playing the piano or better yet, type it like your a keyboard rockstar playing on the electric guitar. Matter 1.0, a new smart home standard, was finally released by CSA (Connectivity Standards Alliance). This new smart home standard allows interoperabillity between different eco systems, such as the ones from Google, Apple and Amazon, which are all members of the alliance. Matter's goals are to simplify the IOT and smart home space by making it easier to adopt new devices, make sure that they work and on top is supposed to increase security by enabling devices to work entirely on private networks without being connected to the internet. Devices that feature support for this new standard will have the matter logo printed on the box. With the release of Matter 1.0 companies will now be able to get their devices certified for the new standard and afterwards push updates to already existing devices to support it. My thoughts I personally enjoy the idea of being able to adopt a Amazon or Apple device to Google Home and simply know that these devices will work seemlessly with Google Assistant, even tho they might not offer the full feature set, as I'm sure I won't be able to ask my Google Home Max questions with "Hey Siri". On top of that being able to adopt a Phillips Hue device without having to install the Phillips Hue app is great, as long as Phillips will certify their devices. But considering that IKEA and Lutron are also part of the alliance, I don't think they will miss out on it. googlepay Suspension of Google Payment Account
ViperPB posted a topic in Programs, Apps and Websites
Last Friday I received an email that my Google account was potentially compromised due to malware on my main PC and that my Google Pay account would be suspended until verified. When I got home that evening, I scanned the flagged PC for Malware, reset my Google password (and some other essential ones), rechecked my two-step settings, and some other "house-keeping" items. I then moved to deal with my suspended Google Pay account, which results in my Google Cloud account being unusable. To preface this, I recently signed up for a trial of Google Cloud Services to use the Google Maps API for a personal project. The only card they have on file is a debit card. As far as I know, I have made no requests via the API and occurred no charges under the Cloud Services account. I do not know what triggered my account to be locked down. I wasn't notified nor have I seen signs of an unverified sign-in and the support person I dealt with won't tell me, but more on that later. When I went to verify my Google Pay account, I couldn't submit the documents from my PC. Okay, my internet is bad (rural America), so I used my phone later that day. My Google Pay account isn't that important anyway, I only use it for (now used, I'm switching Cloud providers regardless of cost now) Google Domains and the recently-acquired Cloud Services trial. The documents would submit through my phone, but not even 10 minutes later I would receive an email telling me I needed to verify my identity. I did this around 5 times both before and after contacting support. I genuinely started to believe I was being fished, but all of the emails, URLs, etc. are "google.com". The support person, who didn't speak fantastic English anyway, sent me an email saying there was nothing they could do and that account suspension fell to their "expert team". The email is attached with private info hidden. Today, I opened another support ticket to figure out how I could fix the issue. The agent told me there was nothing he could do and told me to appeal the decision, I had to reply to the email about the expert team, and this was only after asking how to appeal it. Supposedly, that was the email that was supposed to let me know my account was suspended. I read it as, they temporarily suspended it to review it, but never actually got my documents. Even now, I'm still stuck in the loop of submitting my documents, but getting the same email to verify my account. Frustrated by this response (and for some reason thinking it would be easier?), I had them call me to remedy the same issue. As far as I know, the call didn't accomplish anything. The support agent said they would talk to the product team and get back to me, but I don't have a time frame or any new information. In addition to that, their accent made it hard to understand them and to communicate my issue. I don't know how to proceed from here. I don't know how to escalate it any further. I'm considering closing my entire google account (I only use it for YouTube and Gmail anyway), and trying my best to never touch another Google product again.
