  1. This is all new to me but - Chrome webstore is blocked by our company proxy to prevent anyone from installing any apps/extensions for google chrome. But I would like to enable a plugin now which eventually has to be rolled out to all users. can I use the forceinstallextension group policy to install and enable the said plugin while the webstore is still being blocked by proxy? TIA! Appreciate any help.
  2. Hello everyone, A few days ago I tried to verify my age, which is under 16, so they told my I needed to change it with proof to an age over 16. I did that, they accepted the proof and my age changed to 2003 which is old enough. So it should have been fine but just know I recieved an e-mail that my account will be deleted in 12 days. What should I do? Greetings, Thomas
  3. Summary Google has been working on a new, open-source technology to replace third-party cookies for tracking users called Federated Learning of Cohorts (FLoC)[0]. They have launched a trial on Chrome (versions 89 and up) which automatically opts in users who sync Chrome using their Google account and have not disabled third-party cookies[1]. The trial currently only extends to users in Australia, Brazil, Canada, India, Indonesia, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, Philippines, and the US. EFF has been openly critical of the technology[3] and just launch a site called "Am I FLoCed" to help users determine whether FLoC has been enabled on their browser[4]. DuckDuckGo has also shared criticism and updated their "DuckDuckGo Privacy Essentials" Chrome extension to block the new technology[5]. Quotes My thoughts I stopped using Google Chrome (and most Google products) a few years ago because of growing privacy concerns with the company, so you can probably guess that I'm not a fan of this. This tech only benefits advertising companies like Google. They want to optimize their ads by collecting user data and using it for ad targeting. I don't feel any better having the trackers identify me as an intersection of groups instead of as an individual. The silver lining here is that other browser vendors haven't expressed any intent to implement the tech. Hopefully it doesn't propagate to other Chromium-based browsers. 4. So. I went to unlock my phone last night and lo and behold, it wouldn't register the touch. I looked at the scanner, expecting it to be dirty, and I noticed that there was what looked like a paint chip on my finger. Scanner hasn't worked since and after talking to a Google-Approved repair company, it seems like this becoming somewhat common for Pixel 5's. Pic attached. Let me know what you think.
  5. I recently got given a nexus 9 by a family friend and I tried to set it up and it went fine until it got to the google sign in and it needed the original owners email and password, this tablet was owned by his son and they had created a google account for him. they can't remember the username and password they used. does anyone know how to bypass this or install a custom rom without access to the original OS?
  6. As the title says. My google home always respond with this "the lights is not set up yet" or "power controls not yet suported" How can i fix this problem???
  7. Hello, A month ago I have transferred everything from my previous mac to my new one with the Apple migration assistend. Now I use both macs for different things. But Google Chrome, and some other apps think I only use one mac. This means that Chrome asks me every day to login again on my old mac. I have changed both device names, I have reinstalled Chrome on both devices with removing all date from the google application support folder and still it says there is one mac signed in to my Google account. I think with transferring a device ID or something else is duplicated, but I don't now what to do now, and I am not waiting to reset one or both devices. Is there anyone that can help me fix this? So All programs and accounts see the both macs as two separate devices? On both macs this is what I see in my Google account. While I have one mac named Robbes-MacBook-Pro-qwerty and the other one Robbes-MacBook-Pro-azerty And I don't see 2 mac devices in my account, while I do see multiple Windows and android devices. Thanks in advance Robbe ps sorry for my bad English, its not my native language
  8. Over the last couple days, key Google apps, including Google Search and Gmail, and some third-party apps have been non-functional for many Android users. The culprit seems to be Google's WebView app. Over the last couple days, Android devices of all kinds were experiencing constant app crashes, both of Google's own first-party apps and some third-party apps that rely on Google's WebView system component app. The issue seems to have been related to updates with Google Chrome and a Google app called "WebView."1 According to an official report by Google, the app crashes "affected a significant subset of users." It is currently unknown if every user with the update Chrome and WebView apps fell victim to the bug, but there were widespread reports from affected users of devices from different manufacturers, so it appears to not have been isolated to any particular incompatibility with devices. To understand why multiple apps were affected by the bug, it helps to understand what the WebView app actually does. WebView is a vital part of the modern Android OS that allows apps to display web content while a user is in the app.2 The WebView app is a code library that developers can leverage to build their apps. In programming, a library is a dev's version of a real, physical library. Instead of books, files and snippets of code that perform certain functions are made available to developers so that their apps can benefit from using code that is already written instead of having to reinvent the wheel. There are several reasons why a developer might want to use a code library. Among these are the ability to make apps more compact, easier and faster to develop, and perhaps most importantly to the developer--libraries allow for greater abstraction. Abstraction of code refers to the process of making code less specific to a certain task and generally also makes it more legible and easier to troubleshoot as well as faster to write. For example, if a certain section of code will be used many times in a program, a developer might define that section of code as a function, module, or the equivalent in whatever language the code is in. Now that the section of code has been defined, it can be referenced any time it is needed for its purpose. Often, such function definitions will be placed in separate files, and a collection of these is called a "library." Google's WebView functions as a library that developers from Google and other software companies can use to display web content while in the confines of a given app. Many apps that have interfaces that function like the Chrome app rely on this functionality of WebView. A bug introduced in the WebView app will affect any app that uses the affected code. Since users don't directly launch the WebView app, it can be hard to pin down the actual culprit of such a bug. Developers can't just rely on user reports of WebView crashing; they have to instead find commonality between the crashes to find the root of the problem. Thankfully, with so many users and apps affected, Google was able to issue a fix within a day of the initial reports, which is to make sure that users' WebView and Chrome apps are up-to-date.1,3,4 Initially, users were being advised to roll back the updates to WebView via the "Uninstall" button in the Google Play Store.3 This article's author personally attempted resolving issues on the six devices of various owners with five of the attempts being successful on the newest devices, and the one failure being on the oldest device (a Galaxy S7 Edge). It seems that another temporary remedy for some older devices that have the WebView app permanently disabled was to uninstall updates to the "Google" and/or Chrome apps. This disparity of resolution between devices of different ages could be related to how the integration of WebView in Android has changed over time.2 Android users are encouraged to attempt to update their Chrome and WebView apps via the Play Store and developers should report any further issues to Google via the Android Issue Tracker.5 If your device does not function correctly after updating the affected apps, please give details about your device in the comments below. Sources Google Workspace Status Dashboard: Gmail - Service Details TechTarget: "What is Android WebView ? (sic)" 9To5Google: "PSA: If your Android apps keep crashing, update ‘WebView’ and Chrome [Permanent fix]" CNET: "Gmail and other Android apps crashing on phones: Here's Google's simple fix" Android Open Source Project: "Reporting Bugs" The article image is a composite image composed of a modified version of the WebView app icon and a modified CC licensed "bug" clip-art. The composite image was produced by the article's author and may not be used for commercial use without the owner's permission.
  9. Hey! So I'm in a Discord server and I wanted to share some cute videos of my sister's bunny with them. I don't have Discord Nitro so my file-size is limited to 8 MB, and the videos were ~50 MB á piece, so I figured I'd just upload them onto Google Drive and make some public links. So some people freaked out, saying I basically just doxed myself and anyone who clicks the links. Personally, I know when they open the links they can see the email address of the person who owns it, and the name tied to that account. But that's basically it (I thought). These people were saying anyone who clicks those links are doxing their names, connected e-mails, billing addresses, etc. etc. just all kinds of personal information. Anyway, the server mods removed the links and said if I was alright with doxing myself that's one thing, but if it doxes anyone who clicks the links, that's not okay. Fair enough, I certainly don't want to accidentally trick anyone into sharing anything out of privacy concerns. This post isn't about drama... I'm just honestly curious if it's true that a public G-Drive link gives everyone access to that much personal information? It seems very unlikely to me. I know personally I wasn't able to see whenever anyone else was on that link. There's also a difference between a shared file and a shared link, where a file/doc/etc. share does show everyone's e-mails or "anonymous animals" if not logged in. But I suppose it's possible that someone much more tech-savvy than I could have access to that stuff if they really wanted to.
  10. Hello, so about 1 and a half years ago I thought I found a sort of vaunerability with google maps and over the following months investigateted it further I will go into more details in a secound and would like a discussion and hear your thoughts but mainly I would like to have you informed about this issue because it could affect youreself. If I have spelling mistakes or my grammar is wrong please correct me English isn't my native language. I will update this Topic with mor detailed information when I get all of my notes together ^^ The "vulnerability" First of all I asked 2 companys which sad it isn't eligable for bug bounty so please don't spam random Companys with this article -thx When you are googleing a company or a location google will normaly show you the Google Buisness information that they gathered by helpful locals or websites so google is able to display the Information to you. The Problem is that (at least in my county Germany and I think in others as well) Buisnisses don't claim there Buisness on Google, that leads to the problem that -someone- could enter false Information. To be fair depending on how drastic your changes are to the data that google shows more people will have to report or confirm that information. I don't know how to programm a bot who could do that, but I have had time so I tried how much you could change and found this: Change the Telephone number by 1 number: 1 User Change the thelephone number by 2 numbers: 1 User (sometimes 2) Change the telephone number by more than 2 numbers: Changes drasticly from buisness to buisness but arround 10 Users with local guide or 18 without To change the website I think arround 5 Users have to say the same thing and the website has to have the buisness information. -I didn't focus on this as much as on the thelephone number why will be described in a secound. The Problem with chainging the telephone number: When a telephone number is active on a location/ buisness it takes about [2-8] months for the Claim your buisness function to accept verivication by telephone again. A Person with malishes intend could use a telephone numer and send every incoming call automaticly back to the original number so noby would notice that this would be the wrong number NOBODY CHECKS A WORKING PHONE NUMBER IF ITS "REAL" OR NOT The second you are able to verify via phone number you could turn the call forwarding off to recive the call and verify a buisness wich isn't yours. When you verivied that you "own" that location/ buisness you are able to cainge the information shown on google without confirmation That leads to one of the main vulnerabilitis: You can change the Buisness Website to a simular domain wich 1 Displays a fake website to grab Information 2 Have a cookie grabber and forward you to the real website you the user wouldnt notice The other main vulnerability is that nobody questions if the google bisnes owner is the real buisness owner so you could post events and discounts on the google page this would lead to a lot op upset custimers and a bad buisness reputation. The thired one is that [I think] you could record the calls that you would forward to the other number if you would connect them vai your server but I'm not shure about this last one because to be honest I don't have the tecincal epertise but would like to here from you if you are more skiled in this topic. How to protect youreself: You don't really have another choice as to claim your google buisness and check your data regulary This also apllies if you are not a buisness in case you are a cities office or something like that you may have to ability to take out the ability that people change your data but not shure (again) Before I posted this I talked to my local Police and a few buisnesses who are effected I can't contact all of you and I really want to make shure nobody will be harmed by this so I wanted to get the word out. If you have any questions or something like that feel free to ask I will make a reddit thread as well but its late and I probibly will post the link here tomorrow Reposts and follow ups are hoped for I you do I would love some credit ^^ Stay save Fabian
  11. anyone know how to get rid of the bar right above the search bar? the one that has phone, text, contacts, Google chrome, and camera. No matter where you swipe it stays there, I would like it to just stay on the screen that it's on if that makes sense. I know this is more of a computer site but maybe someone knows what to do? Thank you
  12. Summary Just as google announces new privacy measures, Brave the new kid on the block, is rolling out its own search engine. Supposedly, the engine will focus on Privacy. Brave announced the acquisition of Tailcat, the open search engine developed by the team formerly responsible for the privacy search and browser products at Cliqz, a holding of Hubert Burda Media. Tailcat will become the foundation of Brave Search. Brave claims that this will be "the first private alternative to Google Search and Google Chrome on both mobile and desktop", as DuckDuckGo and Qwant repackage Google and Bing search results. The browser maker also intends to pay people for using its new search engine. Brave will rely on some google tech, but will probably use its own webmaster tools and results. Edit 24/06/21: Brave search has entered beta(search.brave.com) Quotes My thoughts Another search engine? I don't think that brave will attain huge success with this. DDG hasn't been as successful as we wanted it to be. And now brave expects people to use their search engine, after google took serious privacy measures. Sigh, I hope that brave isn't biting off more than it can chew, because the browser is pretty nice, and I would hate to see them go down. EditL The thing looks slick. Much better than the duck. Showed everything that I wanted and seems genuinely better than even google. FunFact On Wednesday, Google said that starting next year, it'll stop tracking individuals as they visit different websites. The executive who made the announcement was David Temkin, director of product management for ads privacy and trust at Google. Previously he was Brave's chief product officer. 13. Before Google Chrome in 2009, we had Internet Explorer, Safari, Opera (and opera mobile) and Firefox. Then Chrome came along and people gobbled it up because it's the first thing they see when they go to that homepage. Everybody thought oh Google I know them they make the Internet or something. This should be the best ever--and it's free! Mozilla Firefox usage took a nose-dive because there wasn't equal amounts of advertising (especially on television with chromecast and then chromeboooks with that familiar chrome logo). This was and is NOT because Chrome is better, in fact many people say it eats rams for breakfast lunch dinner and a dessert with many tabs open. Firefox is open-source and Mozilla, the company producing the browser just laid off 150--that's actually 250 https://www.protocol.com/mozilla-layoffs developers and you can read the rest. On iOS devices, (which are quality software, no disrespect) the Firefox browser can not use its opensource Gecko rendering engine. It's forced to render with Apple's WebKit engine which (probably has zero firefox users on apple) *could* reduce mobile firefox use numbers. Chrome is default on android and every browser except firefox will use WebView (not to be confused with Apple's webkit) or chrome which uses Blink. Microsoft Edge also uses Blink because it's using Chromium as the code behind it instead of EdgeHTML. Why does any of this matter? Do you want to see the internet dominated by a piece of software from a company whose profit comes from mining your data to target you with relevant ads? Google doesn't care about your privacy online--they make money from the very opposite of that! To learn more, here's an EFF (Electronic Frontier) article that goes VERY deep into this rabbit hole: https://www.eff.org/wp/school-issued-devices-and-student-privacy I hope you all choose to support a clean privacy-minded web rather than one dominated by Google.

  15. Seeing that most TVs today use AndroidTV and have the support and are powerful enough, why don't they come with Touchscreen input? Besides the potential cost of manufacturing a 45" or greater touch panel, I can't see why not. I mean, I get it that it's not needed when I ask myself if 'it's necessary'? It definitely isn't but it will be a nice to have. Imagine using it as a whiteboard or big wall painting thing. Or something for artists for something like wall murals. I can see myself using it to navigate the UI if it ever comes to be. Besides the potential increase in the cost to mass produce the panels, what is preventing them from going mainstream?
  16. Summary Apple redirects Google Safe Browsing traffic through its own proxy servers to prevent disclosing users’ IP addresses to Google in iOS 14.5 Apple’s privacy push is much more widespread than it seems at the surface. A perfect example is the new privacy feature in iOS 14.5 Beta 1 (V2) which redirects Google Safe Browsing traffic through Apple’s own proxy servers to enhance users’ privacy and to not let Google see your IP address. Quotes My thoughts Well, if this increases user’s privacy I’m all for it. Apple already has my ip, among other private information, and preventing third parties for getting that info is good, I recon. How would Google take this “intervention” will definitely be interesting Sources https://the8-bit.com/apple-proxies-google-safe-browsing-privacy/
  17. Summary Terraria port on stadia has been cancelled, Andrew Spinsk announced on Twitter, after the game's co-creator Andrew Spinks' Google account was disabled three weeks ago due ToS violation. Spinks has attempted to contact Google to only recive runarounds. Terraria youtube account was disabled earlier in january. He stated that ties between him and Google are cut and he won't be supporting Googles platforms in future. This could mean the removal of Terraria from Google Play Store. Google is yet to make official statement. Quotes My thoughts Terraria is alredy well regarded game and has sold over 30 million copies across all platforms, so not being in Stadia won't hurt Re-Logic, but Google needs good games on Stadia to compete. I hope that Google and Spinks resolve thsi privately. The worst case scenario is that Terraria will also be removed from Google Play Store. I too, think this might have not happened had Google employed people to check for possible false positives in ToS violation cases and to help in cases like this. 18. Just found out this extension got removed from the chrome store due to malware. Anyone know if this is confirmed or suspected? The jist appears to be the app changed hands and then some closed-source code was added after-the-fact. At the very least it's suspicious. To quote IAmMarcellus: "Could @deanoemcke be held liable for any of this? Not only did he hand over the software to a malicious 3rd party, not disclose who they were, and lie about the code always being available for review on github, he also integrated a closed-source library for tracking user information well before handing it over: #1311 (comment), meaning that he didn't just empower a malicous actor, he also acted malicously himself." https://github.com/greatsuspender/thegreatsuspender/issues/1175
  19. Does anyone know a chrome extension which tracks your typing speed (in the background.)
  20. Summary Alphabet's Loon, which provided internet from balloons, is shutting down. For their current operations, they say that they hope their employees can find an alternative at other alphabet companies. They also are pledging $10 million to help boost connectivity in Kenya. Not all of the technology will be forgotten, Project Taara will continue to use technology from Loon. Alphabet's X projects, such as Loon, Wing, and Waymo, are 'moonshot' companies, and they remind everyone that for every one idea that works, there will be many that don't. My thoughts Loon was a very ambitious idea. But with every new technology there will be problems. Competitors pop up with less problems and a longer-lasting solution. Starlink and other technologies with the same goal as Loon's, to provide affordable internet to remote areas, are being improved upon and ganging public interest. 22. After a very Long Time India's google products are reported down. Services like YouTube, Gmail, Google Drive, Google Meet(the most important during online classes, many schools stopped at once), Google Classroom, Google Calendars, Google Play, Google Maps(Ubers in India has stopped now) and every other google based product in India has stopped. Google has never been down in Southern and Southeastern Asia for so long. This shows that something serious is happening in their servers. Summary Google is down in India, never had been down for a very long time. Down from 5:15 pm IST (or) 11:15 am GMT till the time of posting this issue. Quotes My thoughts This issue has never happened before, all google services going down in a relatively stable region. This is interesting to me because, whatever may be the issue; major corporations like Google should have backups if something ever fails. But, corporations are going above the line in the name of cost cutting and maximising margins. 23. Summary Google services seem to be down in multiple areas, with no uniform characteristics known. YouTube is almost uniformly out everywhere, whereas other services like Docs, Meet, Classroom, Assistant seem to be a hit or miss depending on various locations. Mostly Error 503 (Server Maintenance, Overload), which is not a problem Google should face. Account related services have issues, so YouTube will still work on Incognito Mode. Mostly back... Google has also released an official tweet on the reason of the outage, alluding to "internal storage quota issue". My thoughts Shocking, and might come with repercussions, mostly on the end of services reliant on Google Cloud. 45 minutes was a bit long and must have been deep rooted. Still waiting for repercussions to come up. Meanwhile, the internet does not lose any satire. And Google employees can't login either. The fact that this affected home security tools is scary, man. Those reliant on Google for home security really took a vulnerable hit there! Could call this 2020's season finale! I feel happy that LMG has floatplane, because they would have been considerably hit by this revenue loss if not for Floatplane serving as a cushion. Also, it's funny that Google "ran out of shortage". Explains the 503 Error code being served on most pages! Moreover, seems like Google's running out of storage. They are aggressively deleting old accounts that have been unresponsive for 2+ years, deleting trash after 30 days, and ending Photos unlimited storage. All these storage saving measures and a storage related outage point to one thing: We might be nearing the point of saturation of the internet. 24. A couple of days ago my Crestron Prodigy systems brain went out. We can not use our whole house audio system. I was thinking of either getting a Sonos amp for each room, a cheap integrated 2ch amp for each room and hooking them up to a chrome cast. What is the best solution? We have 6 rooms controlled (2 4 zone amps), and each room does not have more than 2 in ceiling Polk audio speakers. Also need a keypad to control input and volume in each room. Would like to keep under 3000, unless there is a excellent option that is over that price. If you are wondering I am replacing the switches with Lutron Caseta dimmers and I am going to control them with the google home app.
  25. I'm currently choosing between iPhone 11 and Google Pixel 5. Both costs around 750 USD here in Sweden. I use both iPhones and Android phones and have no preference when it comes to iOS and Android. I'm planning to use this phone for the next 4 years or so. Which one do you think has a better battery life, and which one has a better camera?
