internet Internet/browsing speed super slow on some devices
AlphaLazer posted a topic in Troubleshooting
So recently I've been having a super weird issue and I really need help with it. My network connection is a 75/20mbps connection which I achieve on my PC (connected through ethernet) just fine. Everything from browsing to downloading and watching videos is as it should be. On the TV in the lounge room Netflix can load 4k video easily and quickly with no Hassel. However, on my phone while my speedtest is 60/19mbps which is fine for wifi, and youtube twitch and discord load fine, things like loading Spotify search(songs are fine, search is slow), browsing Reddit, and etc will be super slow almost to the point of not working. After running a speedtest it loads, then after a minute or less, returns to not working. This problem is increased on my Google assistant, where nothing will load at all ever EXCEPT the ability to control my lights. What is going on???? I have tried rebooting google assistant, my phone and the wifi router, and I have factory reset google and my router and nothing worked. I also tried changing the DNS on my router but that also fixed nothing. -
Behind that search engine, there is a lot going on at Google, from how their search algorithm is done with pigeons, to the Google Gnome, and their most recent announcement of their 7 series Pixel. There is a lot of fascinating happening at Google, and the it just gets even better. Adding the newest (not really knew it was published 4 days before their Pixel) product to their list is the Google GBoard Stick Edition. Typing on it must be extremely fun when your buddies can join in and help you type that 50 page essay, but if you're going solo, perhaps typing like your playing the piano or better yet, type it like your a keyboard rockstar playing on the electric guitar. Matter 1.0, a new smart home standard, was finally released by CSA (Connectivity Standards Alliance). This new smart home standard allows interoperabillity between different eco systems, such as the ones from Google, Apple and Amazon, which are all members of the alliance. Matter's goals are to simplify the IOT and smart home space by making it easier to adopt new devices, make sure that they work and on top is supposed to increase security by enabling devices to work entirely on private networks without being connected to the internet. Devices that feature support for this new standard will have the matter logo printed on the box. With the release of Matter 1.0 companies will now be able to get their devices certified for the new standard and afterwards push updates to already existing devices to support it. My thoughts I personally enjoy the idea of being able to adopt a Amazon or Apple device to Google Home and simply know that these devices will work seemlessly with Google Assistant, even tho they might not offer the full feature set, as I'm sure I won't be able to ask my Google Home Max questions with "Hey Siri". On top of that being able to adopt a Phillips Hue device without having to install the Phillips Hue app is great, as long as Phillips will certify their devices. But considering that IKEA and Lutron are also part of the alliance, I don't think they will miss out on it. Summary Googles streaming platform stadia has finally streamed its last stream, or at least it will mid January next year. Phil Harrison announced in a blog post that Stadia will be winding down over the next few months and issuing refunds for " all Stadia hardware purchases made through the Google Store, and all game and add-on content purchases made through the Stadia store." A relatively consumer friendly way to deny them access to things they bought, especially compared to alternatives. As noted by Paul Tassi of Forbes it is unclear if in-game purchases that go across platform (such as premium currency for destiny 2) will be refunded. Quotes My thoughts Guess they saw the market for stadia wasn't so bright with their negative latency. Going to be sad to see that R6 siege no longer has crossplay on PC. Summary The European Union’s General Court on Wednesday upheld an antitrust ruling against Google’s parent company, Alphabet, but reduced its fine to 4.125 billion euros ($4.12 billion) from 4.34 billion euros. Quotes My thoughts This is not even a DMA/DSA [digital markets act/digital services act ] lawsuit, and the EU is properly fining google for monopoly abuse within the android Ecosystem If the EU Had added the DMA/DSA rules on top of this lawsuit/appeal, the fines could have become even higher. At least its a good sign that the HIGH Fine is still a HIGH Fine, and not just a mere fraction of the original fine, just like with many other court cases like this where a company gets fined for 4 Billion, but it gets reduced to a mere fraction of that fine, being at most 40 Million. Summary Google Amazon and the Israeli government are working together on project nimbus that among other enhanced AI surveillance will be able to tell if someone is lying. We don't yet know how accurate it is though, and some employees don't like it. Quotes My thoughts This is definitely a cool use for AI but definitely will be used for evil from everyone to companies to nations, but it could be nice to see game shows or Internet shows use this kind of technology for fun not just evil. recommendation New Phone Recommendations for my Mother
xTheSardine posted a topic in Phones and Tablets
My mother has had a Galaxy S9 for a while now and it's finally deteriorated so much that it's nearly unusable (even after I replaced the battery), but she doesn't want to get rid of it, my father and I are thinking of getting her a new phone for her birthday, and we could use some well thought out recommendations for her. She's turning 60, has only had an S4, and S7, and the S9 as smart phones go. She likes to take pictures with her phone a lot too. I know she's a little fed up with Bixby and and the Samsung Bloatware always bothered her. I've heard the bloat has gotten better in recent years so I'm sure she still like the similarity of a newer Samsung. She doesn't do anything that would need a powerhouse phone, needs to be able to call, text, take good pictures, look up recipes, use Facebook/Snapchat. That's about it. I'm a Pixel user, so I was thinking maybe something from the 'a' lineup, but that's just my bias talking. This is my first post here, I'm excited to be a part of this forum! -
Hey, So I've been eyeing the Pixel 6 Pro for a while now, and I've just worked up enough money to buy one. The main selling point for me, outside of the fantastic camera and screen, is the AI assistant. I'm curious about where the tech is going and Google seem to be way ahead in this area (presumably due to the tensor chip and, you know, google being google). The thing is, just as I'm gearing up to actually buy the phone, I'm seeing that they might release the new Pixel 7 in October. Do you think the AI part of this phone will be substantially different from the current gen phones? Or is this just unknown? I can't make up my mind on if I should suffer with my 10 year old device for another few months or take the plunge and just go for the 6 Pro.

What's safer? To sign up with Google or to use your email and password with a password manager. I understand the privacy trade-off, but which is the better option solely in terms of security (since Google will find a way to track me down anyway). Is it better to have all of your eggs in 1 basket with Google, or use a password manager and put all of your eggs in that basket instead... Bonus Questions! #1: Why does Imgur let you sign-up with Yahoo? Who uses Yahoo? #2: If you sign-up to Twitter with Google, then sign-up to another site with Twitter, who gets your data? Will it make the world implode? #3: What's the longest chain or cross-logins you can think of? I can't get past Google -> Twitter -> Imgur #4: Should I have just made this a poll...?

Hi, So I've been doing a lot of research recently into smtp relay server, but none of the tutorials seem to be based on a real life scenarios, or I'm just completely missing something. Long story short, I'm the only IT guy in our company, and the manager asked me to set up smtp relay server, so we can use it to send password reset emails etc., as with the expected amount of them it'd be potentially blocked as spam or at risk of being delivered late. The company currently uses gmail for their emails, and has a free server in a cloud. The most useful thing I found is this: https://adamtheautomator.com/iis-smtp-relay/ but I just don't really get how it can work with gmail, where exactly do you put the credentials, how does it work exactly, are all emails diverted through this server somehow instead of going through google? Any info or links would be much appreciated! F

Still going strong on my 5 year old LG V30. Keeps up with usage on a lazy day but is showing its age. If I get any more usage time than 8h (that's usage not screen on time) in a single charge I've been conservative. It's worn out with massive burn in to the point where I've even received a message from my carrier that they're shutting down 3G and I'm on such an old phone, they've given me a 25% discount on any new phone on top of existing discounts. So let's say I do get a new phone. Have you seen the market? All boring phones that look exactly the same as one another with meaninglessly powerful specs that I feel are more often a detriment to how well it functions rather than enhancing the experience. 120Hz screen on a phone for what? Just so the 3 seconds that I look at what the time is is super smooth? So that when I record a video the camera stats come back to me at 120fps even though I'll be recording the video at 30fps? Silly. That's the same if the car industry put launch control on a front wheel drive 1.0L VW UP. That's like buying a 3090ti just to play CSGO/Valorant on a 1080p 60hz monitor... My rant out of the way, the only 2 phones that have even remotely peaked my interest are the Pixel 6a and Nothing phone (1). With Google I can kind of know what to expect. Good software and long-term software support. I hope. I've heard Pixel 6 had a ton of bugs that turned people away and lost a lot of users but you think Google will have fixed most of them by the time Pixel 6a comes out? Shame 1080p, no headphone jack and even worse no wireless charging. For such a huge 6.1" phone to have such a low resolution screen really is a turn off. Have either a small phone with 1080p or a big 6.1" phone with 1440p. Worst of both worlds. And then there's the new kid on the block. The Nothing phone. Specs wise I'm satisfied. Shame it's also a ginormous at 6.55" with the same low resolution 1080p screen at least it has wireless charging. Size to screen is even worse here. The question is what is their plan with OS and software support? The same 2 years of updates and then abandon like most of the industry does? Anyone know how their custom OS is gonna work? Closer to vanilla android, something bloated like Sony's old android or a disgusting imitation of IOS like Honor used to do. I've always jumped ship and dove into the deep ends with every new android phone I've gotten and the last 8/10 android phones I've used it's been a good purchase. Which one should I look forwards to the most? Or is there some other phone anyone can recommend that I should keep an eye out for too?

I just recently bought a new Pixel 6 Pro. I had it for less than 3 months when the inevitable happened. I dropped it in a foot of water at the saltwater beach on vacation. I immediately took it out and let it dry before using it again. It was working fine for about 24 hours when the screen froze and a few seconds later, the whole phone went dark. RIP. It no longer turns on. I get in contact with google support and tell them the situation. They will not pay for any damages caused by water. This is a phone that is IP68 water resistant and the lenses are fogged from 1 foot of water. I am going to get this phone fixed, but this seems like a ridiculous way to treat a warranty. Has anyone else experienced this?

I don't really know where to start this. I don't know if this is me asking for help or just wanting to get my story out there. It's always hard to figure out where to start with something like this. (Holy crap, I'm five paragraphs in, and I feel like I'm not even finished yet. I will put a too long didn't read at the end) Sorry for how long this is. I guess I should start with who I am now. I work at the college that I attend for mechanical engineering. I work in one of the college's IT departments as a tier 2 tech. The only reason why I got this position is because of Linus and this community. Before I got this job at the college, I was selling bikes at a flea market, trying to make ends meet, and everyone at the flea market seemed to have an old broken computer. Watching almost every single one of Linus's videos, I was able to help most of the people at the flea market get their computers working to some extent. That's how my boss found me. So, in reality, I owe a lot to this community. Even though I never posted, I used the forum a lot. I grew up and still live in a small college town in New Mexico. The internet was pretty terrible back then and still is kind of bad in places now. Even so, I had been exposed to computers at an early age. I am dyslexic. Luckily, I was diagnosed at an early age. The school gave me a laptop that was not allowed to access the internet but had software that allowed me to listen to the required reading books. I had this computer from elementary all the way through middle school. In high school, they made me get my own computer and find my own software to fulfill my IEP. That may not be relevant, but I feel it might be important for context later. I attended my first gaming and programming summer camp in 2010. That is when I created my first Google account. I was a young, stupid kid on the internet who did not understand how it worked or that I needed to be careful. I lost that account the summer before I was supposed to start high school in 2012. I lost it to a fishing scam. I was a little bit too trusting on the internet back then. Luckily there wasn't too much tied to that account since I didn't have internet at home, and the only time I could use it was on my Nintendo 3DS. Think I also lost my Nintendo account for that DS and had to factory reset it. Then I created my Google account, which I have used up until now. That's about a decade I've been with this Google account. I had all my life tied to this account. In hindsight, this was very stupid. The only reason I had everything connected to it was because of ease of use. Google made it easy to get sucked in and use its services. I was a YouTube prime member, paid for expanded space on Google drive, and even had my Google pay setup so that it could manage all of my accounts that I had subscriptions for. That's not even talking about all the TV shows and movies I bought from Google. Funny enough, I was an early adopter of YouTube premium back when it was YouTube Red. I hopped onto that within the first month of them releasing it. But I digress; the reason why I had everything set up this way it's because of my dyslexia. They made it so easy. So, I bought into Google's ecosystem full-heartedly without even realizing it. The funny thing is I know better. In my department, I am the Linux guy. Before, no one in my office used Linux besides someone in tier 3 who got hired a month before me. He's not that big into Linux, but Even so, I've been able to change the office's workflow. We use it for testing, and we even have a dedicated machine running Linux Mint so we can wipe and test drives as they come in. I know about the dangers of having everything in one place. But yet, I did it for the sake of convenience. For the most part, I didn't even realize it until it was too late. I would always talk about how I don't trust Microsoft, Facebook, and the other companies making questionable decisions. I didn't like some of the things that Google did either, but if I had to trust my data with a company, I might as well trust the company that already had my data whether I wanted them to have it or not. I guess it's like the old saying to go with the devil you know, then the devil you don't. I'm sure many of you might be thinking now that I lost my account to another fishing attack or something stupid. Well, I can assure you it was nothing like that, but it's just as stupid. But I suppose this also needs context; back in high school, I met a friend who I hit it off with in a way. Both of us had iFunny, which was my only social media at the time. Mostly, I'm against social media, but I have a few exceptions, such as Discord and LinkedIn. I have my own problems with discord but that's neither here nor there. iFunny is no longer one of those exceptions and hasn't been for a long time, but that's where I started sending memes and the occasional lewd fan art I would find to my friend. We would go back and forth like that for years. This continued on through high school and even into college. Of course, some things were more risqué than others and were mutual. At some point, we moved to Google Hangouts. I'm not sure when we made the change, but we have been using Hangouts up until now, even with Google trying to get everyone on their new chat app. So about 3 weeks to a month ago, it was late, and I needed to go to bed because I had work in the morning. I had sent a few pictures that I had found on rule 34 as usual before I went to bed. Nothing too crazy in my mind. Just a few furries and one NSFW GIF of Tsuyu Asui from my hero academia. I got a "did not send" notification right after sending it. I tried telling them good night, but I got the same notification. So I'm wondering if I was having an internet issue. So I decide to log into my modem and restart it remotely. That didn't work. That's when I realized it wasn't an internet issue; I noticed there was a triangle notification with an exclamation mark in it. It was a Google account activation request. I thought that was weird and thought maybe someone was trying to get into my account. So I log in, and it wants me to two-step verify, but no email comes in. I couldn't figure out what was going on for a few seconds just because I was tired at this point. I just wanted to go to bed, but I wanted to make sure I didn't wake up with someone else using my account. So I went through the process of having them send me a verification code through text message. It lets me log in, which is weird because I've never had this many problems getting into my account before. That's when I saw the terms of service violation. I thought it was really weird because I hadn't done anything different than I usually do. So I sent a half-baked appeal because I assume it's some kind of mistake. I even asked what section of the terms of service I violated to see if we could get this cleared up. Though I might have been a little flippant because I was tired, I said something along the lines that I'm a Linux user and can find alternatives if need be and that Google services is an ease of use thing for me. That might have been a mistake, but I was just trying to get to bed. The next morning I woke up with an email on my work account saying that I violated the terms of service, and there was a link for the TOS where I what's supposed to read them to find out what I had done. I clicked the link, thinking it would take me to the exact section I violated, but that did not happen. That's when I realized I would need to read the whole terms of service to understand what might have happened. As a dyslexic, that kind of pissed me off. I know most people don't read the terms of service, and as a dyslexic, it's not a simple thing to do either. So I got to work early and read through their entire terms of service and dependencies. That was a major pain in my ass. That's where I found out two things. One, they don't permit nudity in their private messaging. Two, they don't distinguish between cartoons and real life. In my mind, this reminded me a lot of when a YouTuber gets their account deleted. I felt like I was in a similar place. So I think about what most YouTubers have said about trying to recover their account, where they would have to figure out the offense and try to correct it for the future. So I sent another very carefully worded request saying that I have read through your terms of service and I think I have found the area I violated. I also would not continue that behavior as my Google account is important to me and is the center of my life. It was kind of surreal trying to beg for my account; for something, I had been doing on the account for about 8 years at that point. I was being genuine; I was seriously thinking I would stop using Hangouts altogether because of it. All I got in response was that my account is under review as a response. I had a vacation coming up, and I was thinking, oh that's fine I'm not going to need my Google account while I'm gone. That's when I realized my home security system wasn't working as it had been set up through my Google account. There would be no way to monitor or check on the house later because I couldn't access any of the cameras. So I sent another carefully worded request to Google about my current situation. All I received back was that my account was under review. They say the review process should take a day or two, but that's not the case. But part of me also wonders if they're going back through the history of all the photos we sent back and forth to each other. I know it's a huge amount of files to go through since every now and again, I would go on to the Google archive and download all the archived photos. I think the last one I did was 13-14 GB zipped about 6 months ago. But at this point, I'm getting kind of anxious. They continue pulling money from my account for YouTube prime, and other Google-paid services that I have no access to. I don't want to have to go to my bank over this, but I will if I have to. So I sent them another request, quite frustrated. I explained my situation and that if they are to continue to pull money out of my account, I expect my account to be back if not for them to stop removing money from my bank account. At that point, they blocked me from sending any more requests for 3 days. That really pissed me off, but there was nothing I could do. Now I'm just going through the tedious process of trying to recover all my old accounts and switch over emails if I can. Currently, I'm using an Outlook email as my primary account to put my subscriptions and other accounts I can recover on. I have also switched to a password manager called KeePassXC. I've even switched my browser from chrome to brave on all my devices. Has been a transition period for me. The worst part of this is that I haven't figured out anything for my phone yet. Part of me wants to move to a dumb phone, but I think that's just being spiteful. I really want a Linux phone, but I need to use too many Android only apps for work and school. I even made a second Google account to put it on my phone. That's when I realized I couldn't switch the account on my phone because I was locked out of the current account. It's really annoying because every time I open my phone, the Google Play service checking for Info page is always on top. It doesn't do anything; it just sits there and spins forever. I used to use the Google Translate floating icon thing to read me text from my phone. Now every time I open it wants me to log into my Google accountant has become quite useless to me I haven't found a good replacement for that yet. On Linux, I use Festival; on Windows, I use NaturalReader. But it's not like I could install it on my phone anyway unless I could find the APK. I am aware of alternative app stores. I even have APKpure installed. It's just not the same. To be honest, I know it's my fault. I have no one to blame, but that doesn't mean it doesn't suck. This was hard for me to write. Not just because of my dyslexia but because of the emotions that boil up. It's just a mix of anger, disappointment, and despair. I'm not really sure what else to do at this point. Any suggestions would be nice. I also didn't realize how long it would take me to write this. You really don't know what you have until you lose it. But I'm also mad at myself for being so dependent on a company like Google. TLDR- I got sucked into the Google ecosystem even though I am an anti-big tech person who even uses Linux. Even so, ended up relying on Google without even realizing it. Got screwed over by not reading the TOS and most likely lost my Google account forever. I am still trying to figure out a replacement for everything, but I am mainly pretty upset that they are still pulling money out of my bank account even though I don't have access to their services.

Summary A senior Engineer at Google named Blake Lemoine is on administrative leave after releasing protected conversations he had with the Google AI LaMDA. He leaked the "conversations" he had with the AI in attempt to prove his idea that the project had gained a level of self awareness that warrented larger discussion. Quotes My thoughts I am honestly not sure myself- I have read the conversations at length (source 1) and do understand Lemoine's concerns, but I don't think I echo them. I argue though that what this interaction does prove is that as AI becomes more complex, espically as the use of Neural Networking styles of processing inhibits our ability to easily understand underlying code and processing, a model to actually measure sentience is going to be essential. This "model" could help both in reducing false positives, as well as giving us a framework to help indicate an actual positive. I recognize that a model like that is an overwhelming task- and for people smarter than I am to debate how to create this. I suspect this would need to be a combined endeavor with some combinations of programmers and AI engineers, as well as neurologists, philosophers, and linguists. Thoughts? *I am a security engineer and an hobby developer- I am not an expert in these matters, please read the data for yourselves. I am just a tech enthusiast who loves the challange and conversations. Hey everyone. So, I'm gonna try my best to keep it on the rails here, but I'm infuriated with Google's lack of support on this issue, and want to share/plead for help in the event someone might have tips. TL;DR: I opted into the Android Beta 13 program on my daily driver, my Google Pixel 6 Pro, apps I need for my job as a network admin didn't work, so I rolled back. After getting Android 12 back (from an OTA update) the device is stuck in the bootloader, unable to even go into recovery, and Google Support won't help because there is a faint scratch on the screen from where my keys brushed against my phone once. So, the TL;DR includes a lot, but to fill out more info: - I'm a first-time network admin, and a lot of my accounts use MFA that was on the Google Authenticator instance on my Pixel 6 Pro. Absolutely stupid of me, I know, to use a daily driver as a Beta device, but I wanted to do what I could to aid the devs in gathering info to sooner roll out 13. I still think that opting to roll back to 12 shouldn't brick my device, and I'm wondering if it falls under the terms and conditions of joining the 13 beta program if I had opted out and was trying to roll back through the Google-approved facet. - I've dabbled in Android ROM and Kernel development in the past, most prominently in the 5.0-6.0 days. I know my way around fastboot, advb, and recovery. This device isn't even recognized as fastboot, recovery, or adb with the enhanced Google ADB drivers. - I have a log of the support chat, but I essentially was told the device couldn't be warrantied due to the light scratch on the screen. Even though that would have ZERO to do with how the operating system functions. It felt like what I was saying was more than what their script was equipped to handle. Any thoughts? Any advice? Also, pease feel free to absolutely flame me for the dumb decision. - ArticularSpark

When scrolling google for obscure questions, I occasionally find these really random, basic HTML websites with a random mishmash of copy pastas, with random links inserted in the at random points, which just lead to more of these websites. Every one of them always seems to have a random domain as well. Examples: <mod removed> There seems to be no point to these websites, but I see them everywhere. I also see another type of these seemingly random websites that redirects you to another website, usually a porn or scam website, which usually also has a random domain. Why do these websites exist and why does it seem that there are so many of them?

Summary Despite countless third-party apps available on the Play Store - and even Google's own "Files" and "Chrome" apps - having the ability to install apps via .apk files, Google has threatened the developer of Total Commander to remove his app completely from the Play Store. Google claims their policy forbids any Play Store app from downloading apps from third-party sources. Quote from ghacks article: Ghisler has not been able to appeal Google's decision. My thoughts I think this really adds to the monopolistic behavior we've seen from Google. If they actually enforced this on a big scale then they would effectively cut off any way of installing apps outside of the Play Store on a huge amount of devices. If all of the apps installed on a new phone are available on the Play Store and they all complied with this policy, then you would virtually have no way to access third-party app sources - even third-party app stores. You would probably need to either transfer an app without this restriction from a PC and launch the package manager through a terminal or maybe use something like curl to download the files in the terminal. (I'm not sure if Android has curl by default.) I find it completely unrealistic though, that they would actually enforce this store-wide. And it's very hard to believe that they would cut the functionality out of their own browser. But that only adds to how unfair this is to the developer. I would guess that he was targeted due to Total Commanders incredible support for advanced functions for root users and system modders. Summary The Google Store's redesigned account menu has a bug which shows anyone who has any Google Store credit at all that they have $500. However, your normal balance shows up at checkout. Quotes My thoughts Seems like someone working at Google must have made a mistake when coding this redesign. Hopefully, Google fixes this soon and not too many people are tricked by this bug but I am pretty sure most people would notice at checkout that they don't have that Google Store credit before buying something. However, this is just another case of where one small mistake can have a more widespread impact. A model of the much anticipated Google Pixel Watch was apparently lost and found at a restaurant in the U.S. The images that were taken show a very minimalist and round design, with proprietary bands and a rotating crown and a single button. The Pixel Watch will most likely be announced at Google I/O in may 2022. Quotes (from Androidcentral) Pictures of the supposed Google Pixel Watch (from Androidcentral and stadt-bremerhaven) My thoughts I'm very excited about what Google has to offer with their watch. The design certainly fits right in with all the other Pixel products and I think most people were expecting a similar design to what has been shown in the pictures. The only thing that really disappoints me, are the wrist bands, because they are proprietary. As a male I'm also not too happy about the seemingly small size (obviously I have to compensate), but it might just look smaller than it actually is. I have high expectations for this watch, as Google has been teasing us for years with new Wear OS updates and with the purchase of Fitbit. I hope that the recent colaboration between Samsung and Google was beneficial here and that this is hopefully the best Android smartwatch that there ever was, but of course with Google I'm sceptical. It will also be interesting to see, which chip this smartwatch will power. I doubt it will be a smaller version of Google Tensor and my bet is certainly on Qualcomm's Wear 5100, but how cool would it be if Google managed to cram a Tensor in there with all its magic AI power. The colaboration with Samsung could also indicate that we will find Samsung's Exynos W920 within the new Pixel Watch's housing. Summary A Microsoft Defender error, causes a false positive flagging Google crome updates Quotes My thoughts Something makes me think that this was a deliberately caused issue, that Microsoft tries to shove under the rug, saying its a bug, in the hope people get scared enough to stop using Crome, and use Edge instead. if it were not for that Microsoft office was also flagged as malware by defender. Hey guys, I really do not know if this is the right sub-forum...but I hope the community can help me out. I use a Google Nest Doorbell directly in Google Home (without the NEST-App). Is there any moderatly easy way to use the motion detect of that camera to turn on lights? At the moment I use a Smart Lightswitch integrated in the SmartLife app. I could also use a Shelly if that would change anything. I've googled for some guides but most of them are not up to date and I could not get it to work. Or some steps were missing in between... Thanks for your help guys&gals, Max

Alright so I have been trying to find a replacement for google drive for a while but I've had some issues with trying to replace some functionality of Google Drive. All I really want to be able to do is to host files on a server locally, then be able to create a link to either the file itself or to a folder that has files in it, then be able to send people that link in order for them to download it. I know that if I have a server setup to be accessed remotely I could always have people login and find the files they want and download them, but I work with a lot of non tech savvy people who would not be able to navigate that kind of structure, and Google Drive's ability for me to just create a link for them to click is something I couldn't do without. If anyone knows of a NAS OS or anything like that that has this capability it would be greatly appreciated
