  1. Hi! Specs: 12th Gen Intel Core i7-12700K (AIO cooling Waterforce 240) NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Ti (KFA2) 16GB (2x8GB) 4600MT/s (F4-4600C19D-16GVKE) Gigabyte Z690 AORUS ELITE DDR4 (with latest BIOS update F29) Samsung SSD 860 EVO M.2 1TB So I have a specific problem with one specific game: PUBG Problem is that I know that on these specs the game should run easily 300+ fps on low settings. I can see from CapFrame that my GPU is kind of "lazy" - that when playing on low settings, it wont use all the load and the load is decreasing over time. So pull on low settings reveals exactly on what I just wrote: And pull on ULTRA settings shows that I am having basically the same FPS, but now the GPU is doing its work. I have also asked one friend of mine to have a pull on Z790 mobo, and he is facing the exact issue. Meanwhile I have another friend who did also a pull for me to compare and it looked like that: I have a suspicion that it might be MOBO based problem, but after going through hours of tweaking BIOS and so on - I have yet to find the solution. Does anyone have any good ideas or knowledge that why is GPU acting this way? Or could there be anything else behind it? Any thoughts/recommendations or anything is highly appreciated! All the best from snowy Estonia, Jaexy
  2. I need help with selecting a GPU. Theses are my requirements My budget is $357.00 My other parts: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/richtracy_az/saved/rtZ3wP 1. support for DirectX 12 with Shader Model 6.6 atomics 2. Display Port 3. 4K *I'm building a PC for coding and some gaming. Also some light video editing.
  3. When i work and play games or do anything in pc then pc will goes on standby mode pc lights fan every properly work but display goes to standby i changed dp cable same issue i tried
  4. Old games, no online functionality. How do we feel? Howdy folks, as a part of a university project, I'm writing about current industry practices regarding the Maintenance and Preservation of older video game titles. At a certain point, I'm writing about the slew of older games that have since lost their online functionality (example: World at War) and the fact that the game is still listed for sale on Steam for £19.99, the same price as when the game first released in 2008. Steam does not explain that the online functionality is broken, and Activision alongside other companies often outright refuse to allow third parties to create servers and maitain them for these titles, and any who do are often slapped with the heavy side of a legal sledgehammer (im looking at you, nintendo). Also, in regards to these games, is it okay for companies to shut this functionality down even though at the time, you relied on the boxart of a game to choose if it was for you, most of these boxes praising their online functionality. How do we feel about this? Any suggestions for ways to fix the issue for both developers and consumers?
  5. I’m thinking of getting a 240Hz monitor, but I wonder what I can expect if I am only able to get an average of 180FPS. Sometimes above 240FPS. I play competitively. I feel like G-Sync will throw my pacing way off and maybe I should have a FPS limit set to 239? My current setup is a 120Hz monitor where I have minimums never go below 120FPS, while I also use RTSS (RivaTuner) Scanline Sync. I’d love feedback from a theory point of view, but also from those with various experiences with this.
  6. So i was wondering has anyone quit a franchise before ? like final fantasy , call of duty and etc. ? I decided to quit call of duty all together because of all the cheating and you will have to worry every time you play it on pc and hoping no one got a hold of it, i thought naw it wouldn't ever happen to me and been playing the franchise since original modern warfare 3 the first cod back in the day i hit prestige in , but the the other day i was doing one of the smg challenges and all of a sudden i was logged out and thought maybe the servers were down or the servers got ddosed , but what was also strange was when i immediately quit out of the game and want to get on to Firefox to check the servers there was a file being downloaded with some letters, like example what i got : gxdyetoy html. i quickly canceled that download and scanned with malwarebytes to be on the safe side (thankfully nothing happened) and decided yep im done xD and now im going to be learning about helldivers 2 lol. also sorry if this is in the wrong section, been a long while since ive been on any forums XD
  7. Budget (including currency): 4000$ USD Country: USA Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Primary game is High end World of Warcraft. Other details The primary goal was to upgrade my system to allow WoW to run at max settings and be able to record my gameplay at the same time. I play on my primary monitor in full 3440x1440 and my side monitor has Discord, Chrome for Raid prep google docs/logs, and a log uploading software. The only other thing I really have running is Razer software for the mmo mouse button mapping. Pretty much immediately there are a few issues. Primarily the system simply cannot handle running wow in a mythic raiding environment. Out of combat I can easily sit at 150 - 370 fps. The second I get into combat it drops to around 20-50 fps. I expect it to drop lower but the amount is too much. I simply had to just nuke my in game settings to basically minimum to keep the combat from being laggy. Even with my settings at the floor in game I can dip under 10 fps at intense moments. I have disabled all addons and it behaves the same. The performance is worse than my old build with the same monitors. Compounding this issue is very frequent and persistent AMD driver timeout errors. I did a long list of trouble shooting over several weeks for both issues. The card is being RMA'd now. I have two main questions. Did I do something in the build construction that might be causing these issues? Should I consider not repurchasing the same Video card because the driver related issues I've been having? Attempted Fixes Clean Windows Install Reset Bios Tried both PCIe Slots Windows update and latest windows build AMD Cleanup Utility Reinstall Drivers Disable Fast Startup in windows power settings Disable VSR, Radeon Boost, Enhanced sync, Game mode in windows Disabled hardware acceleration in discord, chrome, and steam. Disabled MPO - Multi Panel Overlay with a reg file change Confirmed temps stay low roughly 60's on the CPU and Used WinDbg to read the dump files Used DDU to remove drivers and reinstall while computer is disconnected from the internet. Asus performance enhancement disabled Resize Bar off Reinstalled AM5 Chipset drivers Flashed bios again Happens mostly in wow with discord an chrome open. But also during hunt and BG3. Typically it will black my screen for 5 seconds then close discord. The game then comes back up once I alt tab from desktop and runs fine.
  8. Hi all So my main machine has 2x 256GB nvme for sul boot windows 10/linux and a 1/2 TB nvme for a cache drive. I will be upgrading to windows 11, but the drive is working but out of warranty. So I think I may get the crucial MX500 sata drive for windows 11 - 500GB. Model no: CT500MX500SSD1 Apparently they have much better write endurance and warranty lengths, compared nvme of similar prices. Also it apparently has DRAM cache & a decent slc cache setup. The drive with windows 10 nvme will be put into a server, specifically as an L2arc in truenas scale. When it fails, no data loss! I have some cheap 16GB intel optanes + some pciex1 adapters. they are cheap. I did find this interesting: At 5.13, it shows the crystaldiskmark results. The Q1T1 random 4k reads are 159.43MB/s. That is better than most nand nvmve drives it seems. I already have a primocache personal license. So on windows 11, could have: 1/2TB nvme to cache my games on the NAS ISCSI - doing already. Sata SSD for windows 11 OS only, cached with 16GB intel optane - 4k block size & read only cache. I would like to know who else is doing the optane caching in this way for the OS drive? What is the cache hit rate? Thanks
  9. So first let me establish a couple things: I'm for physical media and like Luke said during WAN show once "real physical media, not just discs disguised as digital download codes". The title could be a tad click baitey as I'm not sure if it is truly accepted on PC, but feel like its been much more accepted, at least from my perspective as someone who actually returned to consoles for the physical media after being a PC gamer for quite a while. I'm not defending digital only, its good for some, but I don't want it to be the only standard, just pointing out an oddity that I've noticed and could be entirely wrong about, hence why I'm asking the community. So in my perspective it seems that Steam and Blizzard being digital only have been wildly accepted as just natural and I can't remember anyone ever really blinking an eye or raising an eye brow at the topic. PC was all digital and console was not. However as modern consoles have begun to switch to digital I've seen a flurry of discussions about media preservation, proper ownership, games being taken away after the fact (thanks Ubisoft) and loss of access due to down servers whether they're for the game or the platform you purchased them on. Those discussion points are great and I want them pushed further as I want physical media to stay permanently, but it feels like it's really only being and only has been directed at the consoles. Perhaps these discussions did take place as physical media for PC gaming began to drop off and I was just too young or not in the scene when it was occurring, but if we're going to have these discussions about media, ownership and online services, should we not have it about ALL forms of media on ALL platforms? How come streaming movies, music and downloading games on PC have seemingly been accepted but we draw the line at consoles. Should the line not be where any possibility of the removal of perpetual ownership of a piece of media is concerned? Perhaps I'm just becoming the old lady screaming at the clouds. lol Would love to know your thoughts on the subject and any information I might be missing. Also just for good measure, f### Ubisoft. lol
  10. This is a guide for anyone new to PC building who would like to know what FPS numbers mean, why they are important, and what to look for when considering your first gaming PC. So what is FPS? Why does it matter? Why do people choose PC over consoles for more FPS and more settings? What does it all mean? Well, FPS - Frames Per Second. In reality, what video is - is a stream of still images sent to your screen very quickly. When you watch TV, what you are seeing is actually 26-27 different STILL images per second that depicts motion. Consoles like Xbox and PlayStation are generally limited to 60 FPS maximum, and while this is fine, you can have a more premium gaming experience on PC with higher FPS and more settings options and customization available. Plus, you don't have to pay for PlayStation/Xbox Live membership for online gaming which is a pretty nice bonus. Most games on PC these days have the ability to run what is called a "Benchmark" - a test that evaluates the overall performance of a given game. And even if a benchmark is unavailable, there is ALWAYS a way to display your current FPS while playing, and you can assess your performance and tweak your settings that way. Keep in mind that some games are more demanding than others. A good way to judge what hardware is right for you is to share what games you play most. Plenty of testing is done on PC Hardware when it comes to market and what hardware you need for what games you play with your desired level of performance should be easy to determine - just ask any PC enthusiast and they should be able to tell you. PC games come with settings presets that set all graphical settings to a predetermined level for a given overall experience. "High" Graphics settings presets are considered the standard for PC enthusiasts as it gives you high visual fidelity and detail without needlessly throwing away performance. "Very High"/"Ultra" settings are nice but usually cost a massive amount of performance for only small differences in overall image quality. So what numbers are important, what should you look for, and what are ideal numbers? Well, the two most important metrics in gaming performance are "Average FPS" and "1% Lows". Average FPS is the average framerate of the given test, while 1% lows show when the PC struggles with a particularly demanding area or images. The range of different Average FPS experiences is summarized below: 20 FPS or Less: Unplayable - The game will be so studdery, slow, and unresponsive that you will genuinely not enjoy the experience, and will probably stop playing. 30 FPS: Not Very Fun, but Tolerable for Some. This will feel sluggish and fairly slow, especially when demanding areas drop your FPS under 30, but it can be played if absolutely necessary. 45 FPS: Playable - While not very responsive or smooth, it can be somewhat enjoyable, especially if dips in performance from demanding areas are occasional and don't drop the FPS into the 30's very often. 60 FPS: The Basic Standard - at 60 FPS your game will appear visually smooth but you may notice the responsiveness between your inputs and what happens on screen is not quite as nice as you would like. When demanding areas drop the FPS into the low 50's and high 40's, these moments are certainly not ideal either. 75 FPS - The Bang For Buck - At 75 FPS, a Game not only appears very visually smooth, but the responsiveness is also quite nice and fast enough to satisfy most gamers. Even demanding areas that drop FPS into the low 60's don't really ruin the experience and this is exactly why entry-level budget gaming PC monitors are 75-Hz rated (Hz is basically the max FPS the screen itself can display, also known as "refresh rate"). 90 FPS: The Enthusiast Standard - PC enthusiasts usually game on PC for the advanced performance over a console. 90 FPS and beyond is where this difference truly shines. At 90 FPS, your game will feel incredibly responsive, basically instantaneous, and will remain very responsive even in demanding areas that drop FPS into the 70's. 100 FPS - The Premium/Ideal Target. 100 FPS Average may not seem a lot different than 90 FPS, but the important difference is that even the most demanding areas of a game with the biggest drops will likely keep the FPS above 75. This means that the game will remain responsive and the experience will remain premium and smooth pretty much no matter what happens. I recommend 90-100 FPS Average for most people. 120 FPS: The Enthusiast High-End/Flagship Experience - My personal favorite way to play. Why? Well, while I will admit I don't really see any gains in the gaming experience above about 100 FPS; if you game runs at 120 average, then your lows will probably remain above 90 FPS meaning your entire gaming experience is as premium as it gets - So fast and responsive that you truly feel no desire to go any further even in the most demanding areas of a game. 144 FPS and Beyond: Overkill - Many Gaming Monitors are rated at 144 Hz and they are affordable for most and the perfect choice for most gamers. However, there is no need for your game to actually run this fast. Linus himself has shown in several tests that even professional E-Sports gamers - people who get paid an actual salary to play video games - have no performance improvement when going beyond 144 Hz/FPS. Some people may claim they feel a difference and they are welcome to their opinion, but there is no way for them to prove that claim, and someone new to PC gaming certainly doesn't need to be worrying about such things. So there you go, now you can decide what level of performance you want your Gaming PC to achieve, and you can now use this knowledge to ask someone experienced with PCs (we are all happy to help you here at LTT Forums) to recommend a given pre-built PC or recommend hardware for you to build your own. This is the very first decision towards getting your first gaming PC. Welcome aboard!

  13. Hello guys, I am planning a switch to Arch when my new SSD comes in, I have been testing it for over 4 months now, and to my relief it is actually getting worse performance than my Ubuntu 22.04 LTS install for the first time in Quake Champions which is one of the games I love to play in my free time. On Ubuntu it gets 300FPS (300 being the cap which is the maximum cap for that game) and on Arch (as of recently) it gets 67-80FPS which is really unexpected, as there has been no change in the software I run on Arch (unless you include the updates I did). By the way I just did a sudo pacman -Syu and the system is up to date as of 11th April. My GPU is an Nvidia card, I use proprietary drivers on both my machines, most specifically the 550 drivers (Arch has the 550.67 drivers and Ubuntu has the 550.54 drivers). My DE on Arch is Plasma 6 and GNOME on Ubuntu. I use Wayland on both systems and it pretty much is the only thing that can help me, a person who has multiple mixed refresh rate monitors. Especially with the Explicit DRM Sync merge and the upcoming 555 drivers implementing Explicit Sync in May (according to Nvidia at least) the future looks really bright. Do you have any suggestions on what may be the reason of these problems? Also, if you do have fixes you implemented or you know of tell them. Thank you very much for reading. If you have any questions regarding my configuration, do not hesitate, put them in the comments. 15. Hello, i've been struggling with issues for a month already. I built this PC last September and i can't say it has been a smooth ride. First, i had random crashes when playing intensive games. Fortunately, this was my CPU overheating and it was easily fixable by changing to a new cooler (i was using the stock one) Everything went great till last month when i started getting random crashes and restarts while gaming. At that time, the PC would crash even when playing non intensive games. Having youtube on the background was enough to cause a BSOD. I thought this was fixed by reinstalling drivers in safe mode using ddu, but yesterday i had a little bit of free time so i decided to play a couple of hours of Teamfight Tactics (a really non intensive game) and it crashed to desktop (Event ID 1002, Application Hang in event Viewer) Today, i tried playing Crysis Remastered and it made my PC restart (without a BSOD) after just 15 minutes. My PC specs are as follow: Ryzen 5 7600 Nvidia RTX 4080 (Gigabyte Gaming OC) ASROCK B650 PG Lightning Motherboard CORSAIR RM1000X PSU G.Skill Trident Z5 Neo CL 30 @ 6000 mhz (2x16GB) RAM. When i tried Crysis today i was expecting it to crash, so i was keeping an eye on temps at all times. They were as follow: CPU temps Average: 80° Celsius Max: 88° Celsius GPU temps: Average: 60° Celsius Max: 65° Celsius. These are the 3 dump files i currently have: https://www.mediafire.com/file/onq79akcicyexky/Minidumps.zip/file

I installed it and continued gaming. I also stream on YouTube so I'll link one of my streams for a reference of the GPUs performance. I then proceeded to shut down my PC and upgrade my RAM (mentioned above). After clearing CMOS and booting up again, I logged in to Windows. And that's when Windows became extremely slow. I'm talking sluggish mouse movement, Start menu taking 5-10 seconds to load, any UAC window for launching Admin stuff taking 5-10 secs to load. My whole computer was extremely slow. I restarted into Safe Mode, DDU'ed the driver and booted back into Normal Windows. Everything ran smoothly again. Then Windows automatically installed an older Nvidia driver. Still ran smoothly. However when I launched Valorant, it ran at 25-30 fps. That was no good. I installed the latest Nvidia Driver again. Same problem. Extremely slow Windows performance. 10-15 fps on Valorant and Heaven Benchmark. I stumbled upon this troubleshooting video that JayzTwoCents had put out a while ago wherein he talks about disabling Windows automatically installing drivers so that it's a truly clean install. So I redid the entire DDU process again - this time checking the option to prevent Windows from doing that - installed the latest driver and... same problem. So then I thought maybe it's just a bug in the latest driver and Nvidia would release a hotfix for this driver eventually. In the meantime, I would roll back to an earlier driver. (All driver installations henceforth are done after DDU in Safe Mode.) I went through 4 or 5 different versions. Starting from one just before the latest driver (551.76), dating back to the version that I first had when I played Cyberpunk 2077 in December 2020 (546.33). All of them caused the same issue - smooth performance before the driver, sluggish performance after. I tried using 1 stick of RAM and clearing CMOS. Same issue. I tried my old stick of RAM. Same issue. I replaced the CMOS battery. I reseated the GPU and RAM. Same issue. Tried the Studio Driver. No differenece. Same issue. I eventually took my PC to my local vendor from who I had originally bought the parts (Prime ABGB, Mumbai). They swapped my drives for one of their SSD boot drives and it ran smoothly. Installed the latest Nvidia GR driver and was able to recreate the same problem. Slow performance. Then they swapped the 3070 for a 2080 Super from their test bench. And it worked smoothly. With latest Nvidia Driver, it hit 250+ fps on Heaven. Unfortunately, they do not undertake GPU repairs and it's out of warranty so I can't get a replacement either. I am aware that I'll have to shell out some serious cash and pick up a new one. But given that I have nothing to lose, I'd like to try and repair this one. Also, given the fact that it runs smoothly without a driver, I'm wondering if there is a plausible solution? Again, I'm at my wit's end. So any help would be greatly appreciated. Note: I am typing this thread out on that same machine and it's currently running super stuttery. Attaching a video of current Valorant gameplay shot on my OnePlus for reference: https://youtu.be/EJBztSxhK50?si=g8b1L1HQB77oh0Xo

  19. Hey! I am looking forward to upgrading my pc a bit in the next few months. First a want to upgrade my CPU. I have had it for quite a while now and in certain situations I can feel its age. Later I am looking forward to upgrading my GPU to something like a 4070. So what CPU would you suggest buying right now? 20. I've been asking this same question on multiple platforms and haven't got a clear answer and this my last attempt. I built this pc to run games at 4k 60fps with high settings. Also built it for VR as well. My pc runs terrible with most games with lagging when loading new scenes and random fps drops. I was told it's my CPU, then was told it's my graphic card and I'm just confused. Hopefully someone can tell me what part needs to be upgraded. 21. I'm trying to decide between getting a good gaming headset vs a quality studio grade one , I've read lots of reviews and this what it came down to : - pros for hyperx : pretty good built in mic , wireless, supports DTS and probably has better sound positioning , will be used without a AMP/DAC - Pros for Beyerdynamic : Detachable cabel , probably a better sounding headset in terms of sound quality (better bass , more neutral sounding ) , maybe a better cup material (velvet)? - they are both closed back which is probably what I need to Block the noisy laptop fans + noise coming from outside - the mic isn't a must have but is a really nice + , as I could use my laptop's built in mic What's really making me hesitant is that a lot of reviews talk about the DT 770 having a firmer grip on the head for a better seal , but that makes them get warmer even in a relatively short time ( most people say an hour ) lots of reviews say they are perfect for short bursty usage , while the hyperx ones are supposedly more comfortable for long gaming sessions There's also the ongoing problem with hyperx firmware ( check the pinned post in the subreddit ) that's bricking the headsets when they connect to pc and have the ngenuity software open
  22. I have recently stumbled on some deals on HP's store and they are as follows (check images), I don't know if they're efficient for current and next gaming titles and also their durability(temperature and long term usage) but your advice will be very helpful, if there other laptops which can be within the range of price and performance I'm open to suggestions, thank you. Note: I would be gaming at mid/high settings either 1080 or 1440, whatever the device supports.
  23. I'm becoming more mobile and not using my desktop much. I'm considering of buy a 14" laptop for web development and light/casual gaming. It should handle 4k monitors easily without stuttering. I'm considering the Legion Slim 5 Gen 8 AMD (14") with RTX 4060, 32gb ram, AMD Ryzen™ 7 7840HS. I'm used to lenovo's warranty and they're quite good. What do you guys think?

  25. Starting about 3 or 4 days ago almost every game I play will run flawlessly until a random crash or freezing issue occurs. When this happens I have to close and restart the application and 9/10 the app runs perfectly for a time until it happens again. I cannot find any issues with my hardware (temps, voltage, power draw, etc) that would cause the issue and I am at a loss of where to look/how to diagnose Every driver I could think of says its up to date, windows is up to date, I have verified game files on basically everything and they are good. I did a different scan I unfortunately cannot remember - utilizing the command prompt in which a file was found corrupted but presumably was redownloaded after the scan/a hard restart. The only error message ive received comes form Valorant and states that the issue is my graphics drivers crashing, I have attempted to uninstall, reinstall, and roll back my graphics divers multiple times but the issue persists. pls help
