Hey guys, So i just built a new system, It's my first build and I'm starting to see i didn't cover all my bases with my research. lol. So first off i'll list my specs then get down to the problem and see if i can get some help and recommendations. Thanks In Advance! (Sorry this is so long!) OS: Windows 7 Ultimate (64 Bit) MotherBoard: MSI 970A-G45. CPU: AMD FX-8350, AM3+ 4.0GHz (4.2GHz Turbo) 125Watt, 8MB L3 Cache CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i . Memory: 16GB G.Skill TridentX (2X8GB) 2400MHz DDR3, Cas Latency 10, 1.65 Volts, Not sure if it matters but the timing is 10-12-12-31. Graphics: XFX Radeon HD7950 DD (X2 CrossFire). Power Supply: Corsair CX750M 80+ Bronze (750Watt) Storage: 480GB SanDisk Ultra II SSD, 1TB WesternDigital Cavier Green, 2TB SeaGate Barracuda. ASUS AC-1900 Dual Band Wireless Adapter. Alright so those are the specs, Now down to the problem. So after a while of heavy CPU use (About 5 Mins at 100%) My Processor starts Throttling and The temp (All CPU Meter) Jumps up to around 255C, Now obviously the CPU temp Isn't really getting that high otherwise I'm sure there would be smoke and melting and stuff. So i did some research! It seems to be a very common issue with this CPU, MotherBoard combo. So after countless hours of research, And trying everything I could find online, and nothing working, I found something about it being caused by the MotherBoard, So i did some troubleshooting of my own, And found out that it is from the MosFets by the CPU Heating up, Now i confirmed this by letting it Heat up and start throttling, Then took a can of compressed air and blew off the MosFets, and The temp Starts dropping really fast till it stops throttling and the temp returns to normal. So I need a new BotherBoard. So if any of you guys have similar builds i need some recommendations on a new MotherBoard! Now that kinda leads to another small issue. So My RAM is currently only Running at 1600MHz because it wasn't stable at anything higher. Now i know this is largely because the FX Series CPU Can't handle much. So I want a motherboard that has the best chance of getting the most out of my RAM, and then if you guys could help me do whatever Overclocking is needed to get the most out of my ram, I think I've read that the FX series can handle 2133MHz so if i can atleast get that, i would be happy with it. So any recommendations on a MotherBoard i will get one ordered as soon as i decide what i want (based off your recommendations) Then any help towards Overclocking The CPU for the higher ram Frequency would be really awesome! Also quick note! i don't really care what the price is! Preferably not over $500 tho lol. Also Would prefer if it was a red color scheme to match my build. Thanks a ton in advance!! MIKE

Hello, I'm building a 4k gaming rig and through out the years I've looked around here and there about components temperatures, but those are kinda all over the place. So hopefully you guys can provide a more solid indication as to what to expect on the average, what's safe and what's not/max. Please post the temperature in Celsius, I'm aware that the case is way too small but here's hoping the air flow will counter and/or be sufficient. So now on to the rig itself: NZXT H440 [mid-tower, silent, isolated] NZXT Kraken x61 AIO (replacing fans with http://www.aerocool.us/accessory/shark_r14.html, for the led/test it out) Titan X 2-Way SLI (EVGA SClocked) Intel 5930k CPU Super Flower 1200w platinum PSU 2x 7200rpm HGST 4TB HDD's Intel 750 series PCIe SSD G.Skill 32GB DDR4 X-Fi Titanium HD soundcard Asus Rampage V Extreme/U3.1 mobo Fan setup: Front / intake: 3x 120mm CM xtraflo http://www.coolermaster.com/cooling/case-fan/xtraflo-120-red/ Top, blowing out of the case: 2x 140mm Aerocool on the radiator http://www.aerocool.us/accessory/shark_r14.html Rear: blowing out of the case: 1x 140mm " Arctic MX-4 cooling paste and last but not least the mainboard, Rampage V Extreme/U3.1 Ok so now that the main components are known (if not all, the important ones at least), I'd like to know what the average temperatures one is to expect. It would be particularly handy if H440 owners give input, but a general idea would be most welcome as well. Basically I'll be gaming at 4k / comp will be under full load for most of the time, let's just say that. So for the CPU, GPU and RAM what would be normal temperatures and what would be the maximum in a general sense without frying the parts? I do plan on OCing the above three mentioned components so I'd like to know what's safe and what not temp not to cross. As for OC-ing I'm hoping for 4.5GHz on the CPU and some decent gain on the GPU's. For the RAM itself I'm aiming for 300-400MHz gain (from the 3000MHz default), all in all not super crazy OC's by today's standards. So yeah...min and max temp in Celsius please.

Hello people of LTT!! Just a quick note, I posted a thread regarding GPU stuff yesterday, dont get confused. The way it was written is the same So I built a PC, and I want to benchmark my CPU and RAM (i5-4460, G.Skill Ripjaws X 8GB CL9) I have 2 questions 1. How to use Prime95 properly - I dont know how to use it, help please 2. Any other good benchmarking apps for CPU/RAM - I dont know any other benchmarking apps besided Prime95, so can you please suggest me free apps Big thanks in advance to those who answered Have le good day!

So I bought a second hand Asus Sabertooth Z77, in good nic. My problem is when i insert my two RAM sticks into the correct DIMMS (According to the colour of the DIMM slots) my machine will start up for about 10 second without displaying any image, then it will restart and run constanly also without displaying an image, but to turn it off i need to hold the power button down for a fec seconds, just pressing it once or twice will not turn it off. But when i put the RAM sticks right next to each other (incorrect DIMMS) it will work perfectly fine, no troubles. (Would make a slight impact in peformance though) This started happening as soon as i finished the build. At the time of finishing the build, i was using crappy generic RAM (2x4GB Amicroe sticks) Even after upgrading to G.Skill Sniper F3-12800CL9D-8GBSR 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3, the problem is still there. I was running a Core i5 3570 at the time and now i am using a 2500K now and the problem is still there. I have tried re-setting the bios and all the usual things, im guessing the problem lies deeper, maybe timing or something. I also tried running it with no HDD's or USB headers or anything plugged in, still no go. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Specs: i5 2500K @ 4.0GHz F3-12800CL9D-8GBSR 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 Asus Sabertooth Z77 Galax GTX 970 EX OC Black edition Corsair C70 WD Black 1TB Cheers

So I see that G.skill came out with some new DDR4 ram. I'm trying to find information or a review on the new Ripjaws V ram but it seems to operated at the same speeds as Ripjaws 4. Is the only difference the heat sink between these models with the same speed ratings? Side note I have a rampage V and am shopping for myself.

Am I going to notice any difference between these five sets of memory? I assume I won't, but I want to make sure. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Productcompare.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100007611%2050001504%2050008476%2050011776%20600006156%20600006158%20600006157%20600006050%20600083963%20600006142%2050001459&IsNodeId=1&bop=And&CompareItemList=147|20-226-423^20-226-423-01%23%2C20-231-572^20-231-572-TS%2C20-233-306^20-233-306-TS%2C20-231-564^20-231-564-TS%2C20-226-686^20-226-686-TS&percm=20-226-423%3A%24%24%24%24%24%24%24%3B20-231-572%3A%24%24%24%24%24%24%24%3B20-233-306%3A%24%24%24%24%24%24%24%3B20-231-564%3A%24%24%24%24%24%24%24%3B20-226-686%3A%24%24%24%24%24%24%24 If there isn't any difference really, I will likely go with one of the Ripjaws so they'll match my blue and black build.

Lets start this off with...I'm using a G.Skill RipJawsX 8GB (4GB X2) DDR3-2133MHz kit (specifically, F3-17000CL11-8GBXL). If you're lazy to do some searching, these are rated at: DDR3-2133MHz XMP timings at 11-11-11-31-41-2T or 11-11-31-41-1T 1.5V ~ 1.6V As you can see, the timings are pretty damn loose (JEDEC standard for 2133MHz), and I'm working on tightening them up. Just wanted to see what timings are some of the fellow LTT community members are using for their RAM, and if they have any suggestions that they are willing to share. I've done some picking and poking around, and I seem to have 2133 10-11-11-28-38-1T @ 1.6V stable. I'm not a fan of the 1.6V, but that can be dealt with later.

Does anyone have any experience with changing the heat sink color on G.Skill Ripjaws? I am working on a high end build and want to color match the heat sinks (gray, white, black color scheme). I ordered G.Skill Ripjaws with the black heat sinks and want to change the color. I've thought about painting, but I'm not sure the visual impact will be the same. I am thinking about having the heat sinks stripped and re-doing the anodizing or powder coat. Thoughts? Key components of the build: i7 5960X NZXT Kraken x61 ASUS X99 Deluxe Seasonic Snow Silent 1050W 2x GALAX GTX 980 HOF Samsung XP941 512GB (boot) Samsung 850 Pro 1TB (applications/games) 2x WD Caviar Black 4TB, RAID1 for data/backups Thermaltake Core V51 Mixed use numerical modeling/ray trace design and gaming. Total budget is $7,500 (including displays)

Thought it would be worthwhile now that the search function is back on the forum to post my experience with G.Skill RMA's. I had significant issues getting my X99 build running the G.Skill DDR4 3000MHz kit ( F4-3000C15Q-16GRR ) when I initially built it. The BIOS wouldn't load the correct XMP timings regardless of board dipswitches, XMP profiles, etc. I finally found a happy medium with manually keying in all the primary and secondary timings, it was fully stable, including with my OC, once I had made it to the OS. My problem was only experienced on cold boots. My X99 Deluxe runs a series of pre-POST memory tests on all installed DIMM's. Initially I wouldn't make it to post once every 4-5 cold starts, resulting in the ever annoying "MemOK!" light illuminating on the board. The only way to get to the OS was power on/off until the AMI Megatrends message for "Overclock failed!" showed up. Then I could get into the BIOS and force-boot onto my OS drive. This resulted in the RAM running in 2133 JEDEC. The problem only got worse over time no matter if the CPU as at stock, OC'd, or if the RAM was at various JEDEC or XMP-ish settings. Once I had narrowed down a fairly specific set of complaints to go to G.Skill with I emailed their tech support. They provided an extensive list of software, links, and trouble shooting guides to try and remedy it -ultimately resulting in them saying it would be best to RMA the RAM since nothing I tried would fix the cold boot issue. I only had this rig up and running at the time so I soldiered through a month or two of forcing OS boots. Once I had my secondary gaming rig operational I requested the RMA from their online form. I requested the RMA on 1/31/15 (Sat.) and received my RMA# on 2/3/15 (Mon.). I shipped out the RAM USPS priority, they received it 2/5/15 (Thur.). I opened my mailbox on 2/14/15 (Sat.) to a brand new kit of DDR4 6 business days from them receiving it and 14 calendar days from when my request was initially sent for full turn around. New kit is in and functions 100% @ the rated timings/speed. Overall I was completely shocked at how well the entire RMA experience went, especially with something as finicky as RAM where a great deal of problems can be attributed to user error, manufacturer incompatibility, and a host of other issues that are hard to nail down. Rather than run me around for weeks on end before coughing up an RMA G.Skill spent 2 days working with me and then insisted it would be best for an RMA. Every staff member I spoke with was knowledgeable and had a great deal of experience; Which is more than I can say for ASUS customer support when I went to them with this issue. They recommended I increase my CPU multiplier to fix the issue . TL;DR G.Skill is pretty god damn amazing, and RMAing is stupid easy if you have to.

For Christmas, I got a 16GB (2x8GB) kit of RAM. This dual-channel kit replaced a single-channel 4GB unit. If I use all three memory units, I will have a combined total of 20GB of RAM. I have already tested to see if my Windows 7 SP1 machine would boot with all three memory units, and it did. 20GB was recognized. I want to know the disadvantages of doing this. I have the speeds and information below. 16GB Kit: G.Skill RipjawsX F3-1600C9D-16GXM DDR3-1600MHz, PC3-12800 8192MB×2 CL:9-9-9-24-2N 1.5v Info: http://www.gskill.com/en/product/f3-1600c9d-16gxm 4GB Unit: Kingston HyperX Red KHX16C9B1R/4 DDR3-1600MHz, PC3-12800 4096MB CL:9-9-9 1.65v (previously used at 1.5v) Datasheet: http://www.kingston.com/datasheets/KHX16C9B1R_4.pdf

4core1600twins-p35 ram recognition problem
staman96 posted a topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
Hello, I 've just bought a new ram stick ( http://www.gskill.com/en/product/f3-1333c9s-4gns ) and my motherboard( http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/4Core1600Twins-P35/ ) can't recognise it for some reason..... i updated the bios, the stick isn't faulty cause it is working on another pc...... the story is that the pc can't even post with the new stick ... i also tried other sticks and they 've worked fine(older ones)....the only thing i can think ,which is odd, is that the stick i bought isn't compatible with the motherboard or the MB is too old..... but i can't find any compatible stick because the motherboard is 8 years old (lol).....does anyone have a clue why it isn't working??? ohh i also run two 4GB different sticks at the same time(including the new one) and the pc run while only reading, in windows and in bios, the other stick. The only odd thing was that cpuZ was reading totally 8GBs of ram while in bios and windows total of 4GBs. I don't know.....could it be the MB, the RAM or the PSU? Thanks. -
In the next few days I will be buying the rest of my parts for my new rig. I decided to go with a black/ purple colour scheme. Since my case (Phanteks Enthoo Luxe) has purple LED's I am good there. And my Corsair H110i GT has support for RGB colouring. But I wanted to go a step further and paint my RAM. I'm using 32GB of G.Skill DDR4-2400 RAM. I saw a tutorial on how to paint and remove the heat spreaders, but I don't know what paint to buy. I thought maybe you guys could help me. My requirements are that it's purple and will work with what I have. If you could post the links that would be great too. Cheers

Good Morning, I bought this set of 2 x 4GB DDR3 ram for my build.G.Skill Sniper F3-12800CL9D-8GBSR2. It works fine, however I cannot set it up to run at 1600 MHz. This is my build: Mobo : Asus H97i-Plus CPU: Intel Pentium anniversary edition G3258 Ram : G.Skill Sniper F3-12800CL9D-8GBSR2 PSU : Fractal Design Fractal Design Integra M 550W Case : SilverStone Sugo Series SG13 Black Mini ITX Case Coolling : Stock Storage : Kingston SSD Now 300V 240 GB OS : Windows 8.1 @64 bit. As per documentation, this should run at 1600 MHz. However it is running at 1333. This Is what I ‘ve done: Went into Bios and set XMP to Profile 1. It displays DDR3 1333 9-9-9-24. I can see it runs at 1333 using Speccy software. Went into Bios, disable XMP and manually selected DDR3 1600MHz. all remaining settings as Auto. The Bios displays Ram targeted speed : 1600. The PC boots into windows but speccy and Asus AI3 keep saying it is running at 1333. G.Skill website says it is compatible with my mobo. Does anyone know how to make it run at 1600 MHz or perhaps there is something wrong with the modules? Regards, Mario.

Hello everyone So I'm searching for a gaming PC, and I found one, but I don't know if it's good or just unbalanced : 2400 MHz RAM seems high for me, I don't know the case, and because it's got an i7 4790K, I don't want to deal with thermal throttle Here's the link : http://www.magicpc.fr/ordinateurs-pc-gamer/35407-PC-Gamer-OC-Maxwell-980.html Thank you PS : I'm french so that's why the page/site is written in french

At this time, the G.Skill Phoenix Blade is only offered in one capacity size - 480GB. The drive uses four SandForce SF-2281 controllers with four separate banks of 128GB Toshiba MLC NAND flash. Overprovisioning on each bank reduced the available flash density to 120GB per bank. This increases performance by allocating more space to background operations like garbage collection and wear leveling. The SandForce SF-2281 controllers are held together by a SBC 208-2 PCIe 2.0 8-lane to SATA RAID controller. We've yet to find a lot of information on this part, even though this is our second time encountering it. G.Skill's claimed performance is up to 2000 MB/s read and write. CrystalDiskMark performance is also quoted at 1900 MB/s sequential read, 1050 MB/s sequential write speeds. The random performance specification came from IOMETER, 90K random read and 245K random write. We more than doubled the specifications for random read performance during our testing, but we had to get into very high, enterprise level queue depths to do it. G.Skill's Phoenix Blade PCIe SSD has 2000MB/s transfer rates
BiG StroOnZ posted a topic in Tech News
G.SKILL releases a Phoenix Blade 480GB PCIe SSD with ultra fast Read/Write speed and IOPS. The PCIe SSD has been built upon x4 LSI SF-2281 SSD controllers setup in RAID0, then combined with NAND it offers a fast 480GB SSD array that can manage speeds of up-to 2000 MB/sec and 245K IOPS. G.SKILL Phoenix Blade PCIe SSD is designed with a PCIe Gen 2.0 x8 high-speed interface, allowing the system to effortlessly send massive amounts of data to and from the SSD and drastically improves performance for professional and industrial graphic applications. With 480 gigabytes of storage capacity, the G.SKILL Phoenix Blade PCIe SSD is pushing the maximum limit of read and write speeds at up to 2,000MB per second TRIM and SCSI UNMAP support with major Windows OS versions help maintain consistent write performance, reduce flash deterioration, and most importantly, extend drive life expectancy. Not to mention an extensive set of S.M.A.R.T. attributes allow users to monitor the drive's health, allowing users to take preventative measures against possible data loss. CRC data protection prevents data corruption during data transfers. By implementing BCH ECC of up to 55 bits per sector and RAID-5-like data protection, flash cell errors and page/block failures are yesterday's news. G.Skill covers the Phoenix Blade with a three-year warranty. The endurance rating is pegged at 1536TiB of total writes, Source 1: http://www.guru3d.com/news-story/g-skill-phoenix-blade-series-480gb-pcie-ssd.html Source 2: http://techreport.com/news/27250/g-skill-phoenix-blade-pcie-ssd-boasts-2000mb-s-transfer-rates Source 3: http://www.techpowerup.com/206533/g-skill-releases-extreme-performance-phoenix-blade-series-480gb-pcie-ssd.html Hopefully it's priced to compete with the OCZ RevoDrive.
