Hi. I have WD 1TB external hard drive that is supposed to be connected only with 1 cable to USB port. It worked this early this year in front panel USB 3.0 ports but now it does not. It is powered on but drive letter does not appear. It works however with 6 ports on rear panel. I tested both front panel USB 3.0 ports with USB thumbdrive and it works. I had motherboard replaced before that so I wonder what could it be that changed and my hard drive refuses to work in them.

Quick specs of my PC (just built it a week ago): Motherboard: MSI PRO Z690-A DDR4 CPU: Intel i7 12700K GPU: RTX 3080 12GB Monitor: LG 27GN 950-B (connected through 1.4DSC Display port cable) Case: NZXT H710 PSU: Corsair RM850x 80 PLUS Gold OS: Windows 11 Pro (OS build 22000.778) I have some average USB headphones (MSI DS502) and on my old computer they worked fine connected to the back motherboard based USB port, on my new PC however, I connect them to the front USB because it's easier and makes the cable more manageable. The problem is that for some reason and so far happens completely at random (haven't been able to re-create the problem) the headphones just suddenly stop working and not only that anything that outputs sound (videos, youtube or games) stops working all together, for example, I was in a game one time and this issue happened and the game completely froze and wouldn't keep going until I unplugged the cable from the front port then the game started running again but without sound and when I plugged it back again the sound came back after a couple of seconds. Like I said so far it's completely at random when this issue happens, it's not based on time because I had happen twice within an hour but sometimes I could go on for almost a day without issue. I tried going into the device manger and disabling and re-enabling the USB headphones when the problem occurs but that did nothing. So far only way to fix it is to unplug it and re-plug it again. Any help or suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

Hi guys, I'm looking for a mid-tower case for ATX board that will fit my requirements, so far I've found those 2, what do you guys think of them, and could you suggest me other cases that could fit my needs? Also something to note, I currently have a build in a Fractal Design Define R5, so I kinda want to completly change model not just upgrade to the new version of the same case. The needs : I want a full front IO with at least 3 usb type-A and 1 usb type-c and Separated audio jack for mic and headphone. (I guess I could live with 2 usb type-a (usb 3.0), but i'll need to buy a usb hub) I'm building with an i9 12900k and planning on buying a cooler soon, the artic liquid freezer II 280mm, good choice? And this is paired with an RTX 3080 gigabyte gaming oc I want a side window (tempered glass ideally), good cable management possibility and obviously good airflow. The PC is for video editing and gaming. Thanks guys!

I have a Fractal Define 7 case. My motherboard is an ASUS Z490-A Gaming. I'm running Windows 10 professional. The case has 4 USB ports on the front (well five USB C as well). Two USB 2.0 and Two USB 3.0. I have plugged into the USB 2.0 ports a XBOX one wireless adapter and a logitech unifying receiver for my home theatre media keyboard. The issue I have is only one of these can work/exists at a time. If I use the controller for example all is well, but when I go to use the keyboard it doesn't work (device manager says "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43) A request for the USB device descriptor failed."). I have to unplug it and plug it back in to get it going. It's like it can only power one port at a time. I tried to force it to do both once and it BSOD me (KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED). I wouldn't usually have both going at the same time anyways, but it's annoying to have to unplug and plug back in the adapters each time, as it can't dynamically switch to one after using the other. If I plug both into the USB 3.0 ports it works fine. I'd prefer not to do this as I use those ports as well and would like to know if these ports are faulty. If I plug one adapter in to the USB 2.0 ports and one flash/thumb drive it works (originally I thought it didn't when first trying, but retrying again it works fine in this configuration). If I plug in two flash/thumb drives into the USB 2.0 ports and run them at the same time, it works fine. Is there some power limitation of USB 2.0 where it can't run two wireless adapters off the shared two front ports? Is it faulty case port/wiring, or is it the motherboard USB 2.0 connector?

I did not hear an audio notification that plays on Windows 10 devices when a USB device is connected. I unplugged the device only to find that on the USB cable itself was the purple receptacle in the port (shown in the picture.) After realizing this, I noticed my computer was frozen. I shut my computer off, and since that night my PC hasn't been able to turn on when I hit the power button. All that happens when I press the power button is that the fans in the PC start to spin and the orange light on my motherboard turns on for just a second, but then everything turns off. This will keep repeating until I hold down the power button again. Sometimes, the orange light comes back on and the fans start to spin again for a bit longer, but then they stop shortly after. I've had no problems with power or startup until the USB port broke. I have tried to disconnect the cable that connects to the USB 3.0 slot on my motherboard, but nothing changes. There isn't a USB 2.0 connector connected to my motherboard either. I've also tried disconnecting my PC from power, holding down the power button for 10 seconds, and letting my PC sit for 10 minutes before trying to boot again. I've also tried to clear the CMOS by using a screwdriver to touch the two "clear CMOS" pins on the motherboard for 5-10 seconds; my motherboard doesn't have a jumper pin. The front USB cables were disconnected from the motherboard for all of these attempts. NZXT support is supposed to ship me a replacement module for the front panel, but since the above methods haven't worked, I'm worried that there may be problems with my motherboard. Is there anything I can do to solve this issue? Thanks for the help.

First post warning: I recently built the pc listed in my signature (Win10 Pro-64bit, BIOS is the latest available) for day-to-day office work and occasional free-time gaming. It’s been running well with two problems to note. First has been sharp CPU temperature fluctuations – but I’ve discovered this is common in Ryzen CPUs via forum search. Second problem is regarding front panel I/O: All output via front audio-out sounds terrible (it’s there, but it sounds heavily processed and only contains background parts of music), and one of the USB ports fails to recognize anything or power a device. The other front-panel USB port successfully powered my XBone controller and transferred data at expected speeds. I’ve not yet tried the microphone input. How would one determine the source of the problem between the motherboard and the case? Or am I missing something? Thank you in advance for all input, Jordan

Hi, I've just rebuilt my system in a new case (Silverstone Fortress Ftz-01) and done a kind of soft upgrade. I've kept my old gigabyte motherboard which only has a usb 2.0 header. So I've bought an Alaska adapter so I can connect the front usb 3.0 cable. They'd only be running as usb 2.0 but that's better than nothing However, having installed the adapter, the front ports are not working. The PC (windows 10) recognises that things are plugged in but I get an error message of 'usb device not recognised' and devices are unusable. My best guess is it's a driver issue, but I'm not really sure where to start, there doesn't seem to be much information online as I'm guessing downgrading your front usb isn't commonly done. Any ideas/solutions greatly appreciated. Cheers !!

Hello, I recently bought a new case to go with my oversized Graphics Card. Said case now has a two USB 3.0 and two USB 2.0 Ports on the Front. The Problem is that the USB 3.0 Ports don't seem to work, whereas the USB 2.0 Ports work without a problem. As I got several Flashdrives with LEDs on them, I can atleast say that the Ports get Power. I already checked if the USB 3.0 Cable is correctly connected with the USB 3.0 Header of my Motherboard. Any idea on what's going on and how to fix it? PC Specs: GPU: RX480 Red Devil CPU: Intel i5-4460 Mainboard: ASRock H81M Case: Coolermaster N400 OS: Windows 10

Whenever i plug anything into the front USB on my cooler master haf 912, it causes problems with the device I plugged it. I have to wiggle around the device and the device works in a very specific place. And it happens with every device. Any suggestions on how to fix it?
