I'm going to be running a system with integrated graphics for a while. I'm also going to be using a locked CPU because I have no intention of overclocking. I've heard things about DDR4 with higher frequencies helping integrated graphics to perform significantly better. This gets me kind of interested, but I have a few questions about the whole thing. The first question: Would I need a Z170 board to take advantage of the help the faster RAM gives my processor/iGPU, or am I fine with an H170/lesser board? The second question: Do I need to overclock my CPU to get my RAM to run at it's advertised speed, or is there another way I can do that? The third question: Can somebody help me find a motherboard to use? I don't need a ton of features... I just need a motherboard that works, is able to handle 16GB of RAM (all of the new ones), with decent audio and fast Ethernet. EDIT: I'm trying to keep my budget below $600. I can go up to $650 if it's necessary in order to ensure the top quality of my computer's parts. I'm buying everything inside of the USA, preferably from Amazon (I have a Prime membership). Hi everyone. Talking about RAM, how much will i need for my day to day work and some specific applications. I work on applications like AutoCAD, Google SketcUp+Vray, Revit, Lumion, Adobe Photoshop, Indesign and Illustrator. I was thinking of going with two sticks of 8GB i.e. 16GB total. But is it worth it getting that much. Will i be able to utilize it all? Processor - Intel 6600 MoBo - GA-H170-Gaming 3 I have attached images of system requirements for different applications.

Hi guys ! I just bought a Kingston HyperX Fury 1866. I did not notice that my ASUS H97M-E only has max 1600. Will there be any conflict with it ? (Please note that I'm not that familiar with RAM Frequencies)

I bought a schiit stack a few days ago, and I enjoyed the subtle increase in quality. However sometimes now the sound changes to a higher frequency (imagine the people talking suddenly sucking in a helium balloon). I tried turning the amp off and on again to no avail. I think it just goes away randomly not sure though. IF you know what I can do to fix it or if you know if my amp/dac is defective that would be helpful.

Hello people of the internet, So I have built myself a PC with 2 slots on the motherboard taken up by 8GB of RAM (2x4GB). My question is, can I install 16GB (2x8GB) in the two other slots (assuming the 16Gb is the same frequency, type and timing)? Thank you for your answers.

Hey guys, this is my first post so please dont be to harsh with me. My situation is this: When building my rig I saved money on my RAM so I only got a single stick with 4gb ddr3 (Kingston-1866-CL10 240-UDIMM). I upgraded my RAM sice I got some money off a holiday job with a dual kit 2x4gb ddr3 (Kingston-1866-CL9 240-UDIMM) [Pictures of both boxes down below]. So far so good. As I realized that the memory was not running at the desired 1866 mhz but at 1600 mhz (which I paid a couple bucks more for both for the frequency aswell as the dual kit functionality vs a single 8gb stick figuring what the hey I can afford it) and feeled scammed. As i did some research I quickly realized that I had to activate the xmp profile for it. Doing so my sytem refused to boot and I dialed back to 1600mhz. Looking at the boxes I realized that the new and improved version of the DIMMs I opted for had a reduced latency (CL9 vs the old CL10). ~My question for You guys now is: Are the additional mhz worth a 4gb sacrifice? To put this in context: I am not very heavily gaming lately because of many programs refusing to run in a VM on Ubuntu Linux (Daybreak you dicks, kappa) and I found my love in Blizzards Hearthstone which runs like a charm in PlayOnLinux aswell as Firaxis XCOM which runs natively on my OS, which are both not very demanding (and I pretty much had my 300h in XCOM long war and there is only so long you can play) Sidenote: I am not a natural speaker please correct my spelling, but only I You have already answered my question, thank You

I changed my minimum processor state to %100 to see if it would help with any micro stuttering I had in game, but when I changed it back to its default value my CPU still runs at max frequency. I have an I7 4790k on a MSI G45 Gaming Motherboard. Is there any way I can change my CPU back to the way it was before where it would fluctuate the frequency according to usage? The reason I ask is because My CPU has been Idling hotter (About 10c) after I did it. I ended up buying a corsair h110iGTX, but to no avail my CPU temp still idle's around 45c. My CPU isn't overclocked and when it comes to CPU's I'm pretty newbie. I tried to ask on toms hardware, but either no one knew or it just didn't get seen. I got a pretty strong PC (by the time of course) about 2 years ago. 4770K with Thermaltake Water 3.0 Extreme, Asus Maximus VII Hero, CORSAIR 16GB Vengeance Pro DDR3 2133MHz CL9 kit are the relevant parts. As soon as I got it running I knew my 4770K was terrible. I don't consider myself an overclock pro and I pretty much do everything in this regard by going through guides carefully but I think I managed to decently understand what I should realistically expect from Haswell. And boy was I wrong. I can't get a stable 4.3 GHz overclock with around 1.35-1.37V core voltage. 4.2 is the most I can do with these voltages and even with 4.2 my temps are not that good considering my cooler. I've been dealing with this for the last 2 years but by now I'm really angry and also curious: Did I just absolutely lose the silicon lottery? Does anyone else have a 4770K this terrible of an overclocker or should I try to set a Guinness World Record with this? :lol:

So I have 2666Mhz DDR4 and my Asus x99 pro default speed is 2133mhz. When I go into bios>advanced>Aitweeker> Dram Freq. and set it to 2666Mhz the system will not boot. Q code leds read "bd" and the Dram led lights up red.... so Im doin something wrong.. not much in this mobo manual... can you guys help? System works fine otherwise.. Im doing renders inVue on this it renders much faster than last computer... I had a set of Kingston HyperX Blue 1600 Mhz 2x4GB ram sticks in my system. I just bought another set of Kingston Hyperx Fury Blue 1333Mhz 2x4GB They are running in seperate dual channels I set the mobo for X.M.P Profile I had available and Checked cpu-z which says my memory is running at 800 mhz (800*2 = 1600mhz as it should). Yet When I check in the SPD in CPU-z it doesn't list 800 MHZ for the 1333MHZ set of rams, so is it possible that I am running a set in 1600 MHZ and a set in 1333MHZ or did the mobo just overclock the second set to 1600MHZ? Is it safe to run this config? I ran memtest 4*2000MB and it went without error. Should I just return these and get new ones? IF yes, can you combine CL10 ram with the CL9s I have? -
So I'm confused the Steelseries Siberia v3 on steelseries page has a frequency response of 10-28,000 meaning that it sounds better than the hyperx clouds and astros and sennheisers?http://steelseries.com/products/audio/steelseries-siberia-v3yet on newegg it says it has a frequency response of 20-20k same as asus strix pro and logitech g930? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826249156I'm confused HyperX clouds have 15-25k g4me zero/ pc 350 se have 10-26k

I am trying to overlook my i5-4690k to 4.7 but the Temps are in the upper 90s. I have a h100i gtx and they are sky high. I also have my dram at 1.65! I don't understand how everyone has there's at 4.7 at 79°c PLEASE HELP!!

Not all UEFI/BIOS are created equal If you're thinking about overclocking your HASWELL CPU, think twice about buying a Gigabyte board. I own a Gigabyte Z87-UD3H and I have overclocked my i5-4670K with help from several board members and ProKoN who is arguably one of the more experienced overclockers on this board. The problem I have with the Gigabyte UEFI/BIOS is that it doesn't allow you to set a true adaptive frequency and voltage for the Cache Ratio and Vring. Yes, it offers you the ability to set an offset for both settings, but the offset doesn't even work. If you set it, your cache frequency and voltage will stay static at idle. ProKoN has tested other Gigabyte boards and they all do the same thing. He even measured the Vring using a digital multimeter and concluded that it doesn't downclock during idle. This is a very annoying problem with these boards as it makes it impossible to have a truly power efficient overclock for 24/7 use when you set a manual cache overclock. MSI offers the user a very easy way to set their core and cache frequency and voltages to adaptive mode through their UEFI/BIOS. I should have gone with an MSI board from the beginning. Just wanted to share my experience and help others. Note: I have no experience using ASUS boards. I don't know if they act the same way. If anyone can shed some light on ASUS motherboards in this regard that would be great. Thanks.

Hi everybody, I have a problem, I recently started playing world of tanks again and encounterd extreme low fps. While before i runned at 60-80 fps. I searched on the internet and found that the new updates lowered the fps somewhat, yet my 15 fps with a i5 4670k and gtx 770 seemed way to low for me. So i began to search the problem, and found it. My cpu frequency is running at 800mhz and wont go up. Sometimes it gets to 1000 but then goes back to 800. When i start the pc it is the normal 3400 but then just 1 min later it drops and wont go up anymore. I tried other programs but nothing will cause it to go up. I looked at the temps and they seem fine running at 40 degrees celsius. I looked in the bios if any settings were weird but could not find anything. So can anyone of you explain what causes this. Ok so just today my 4770k started to drop in performance. This was apparent during many games GW2, PS2 and CSGO. So i went ahead and started the Intel Processor Diagnostic Tool and found out my CPU was only running at 0.8 GHz. I've had CPU problems before however that was due to my ignorance on overclocking and was fixed with a new cooler. My 4770k should be running at 4 GHz. Help would be awesome and here is what the Diagnostic Tool spat at me. EDIT : Just Checked power options and it was not a problem related to that. Both min and max is set to 100%. I have a 4570 and the base clock is 3.2ghz, locked processor. however, when idling or not doing anything, does that clock go lower to say 500mhz like a gpu would do? If not, how would it save energy then? wouldn't it just be wasting power and making unnecessary heat? Also, the turbo boost clock is 3.6ghz i believe. Is only one core turboed or the whole cpu?

Hi, I am starting a computer build and was wondering-*for rendering, editing etc* Is it better to have more cores with lower frequency or the latter? I understand I could buy more cores and overclock it to get it to the frequency I want, but what would be more beneficial? Working with video by the way. Overclocked my 970 with afterburner. I got 1500mhz stable from testing in furmark. WHen i run furmark it goes to 1500mhz, but when i play a less demanding game like Smite, a dx9 game, it stays at 1113. What do????

Help No, but seriously I need some. I have Intel DH55TC mobo (with newest bios, so don't even bring that up) and Intel i5 661. So far it has been running Kingston 2x2GB 1333 1,65V (so says the sticker, but it runs on 1,5V). Works fine. Now i just bought Corsair 2x4GB 2133 1,65V kit and intend to run it (why else buy it?). Bios recognized it just fine, although underclocked to 1333, lowered timings and set to 1,5V. I thought it was fine. It wasn't. Bluescreen, then another. I thought, fine, I changed motherboards on this operating system, it took that without a stutter. Maybe now it's too much?? So I popped in my handy-dandy multiboot windows and try to see if the installer kicks in. It didn't. Grub loaded, attempted to load my iso, and then just powered down. Strange (yeah, i tried more than once. this ain't my first time) Tried SystemRescueCD on the same USB. Same reaction. Went to gut down HTPC (Asrock E350M1). Poped ram in, worked like a charm. So sticks ain't bad or anything, but this time it was running 1,66V. My Intel board won't allow overvolting anything before you ask. Now the funny part. I take one stick out (nevermind which one) I suddenly can boot SystemRescueCD, but not my existing windows 8.1 or my installation usb. So there's that. Now I'm gonna go check if HTPC will work on these undervolted to 1,5V, meanwhile I'm begging you to tell me something. After some googling I discovered there're some compatibility issues with single sided and double sided DIMMS in this mobo, so maybe that's that, but I dunno. Again, pls help

Hello I am trying to overclock my A8 7600 APU and need some help. Here is my CPU info. So the Multiplier is x37 Therefore Bus speed x Multiplier = (37 x 100= 3700Mhz) Which is my current APU turbo speed. What do I increase in the BIOS to overclock? I'm really confused! Thanks

Hi, So only since the summer of 2014 I've been interested in PC things when it comes down to the parts. My PC was build by a family member in 2010 I think. I've done quite a few of the basic things now, but I'm not that familiar with the BIOS and its settings yet. This is my setup, shortened to the parts of which I think is relevant to this question. Mobo: Asus M4A87TD/USB3 running bios version 0601 CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 965 BE (stock) with Hyper212 EVO RAM: GeIL EVO DDR3-1333 4GB (2x2GB) (stock) (GE34GBB1333C9DC I think) My RAM is currently set on the two black DIMM-slots instead of the blue slots, because of the Hyper212 EVO clearance issues with these High Profile RAM modules (this is how they look). After watching some videos on the RAM part of the system, I thought I'd check at what frequency my RAM is currently. With Speccy it says my frequency is now at 668.8 MHz, which I found quite odd since my RAM is rated at 1333 Mhz. I went into the BIOS and found an option under Ai Tweaker which referred to the frequency of the DRAM. It was set on Auto, but it read 668 Mhz. So I manually changed it to 1333 Mhz, saved and rebooted. Only to find it stuck at the boot screen for quite some time. I pressed the On/off switch till my PC was off and booted it up again. Still the same. I pressed the On/0ff switch again till the system was off and then I switched off the Power Supply. Waited for a few seconds, switched on the power supply and booted the PC. This time I would work as if nothing happened. If I was correct, my settings should have been saved before the boot problem occurred. So I checked Speccy again and it was still rated at 668.8 Mhz. I rebooted the PC, went into the BIOS and was surprised to find the DRAM frequency at 1333, right where I left it. So... which one shows the correct amount? Or am I just wrong and missing some information about how it all works and if so, please enlighten me. Thank you in advance, JB

Hey guys, first of all I let my ring specs here: Motherboard: 990FXA-UD3 GPU: SAPPHIRE TRI-X R9 280X 3GB GDDR5 OC (UEFI) ---> GPU BIOS Version: 015.046.000.016.000000 ---> Driver Version: Catalyst 14.12 AMD Catalyst OMEGA SOF PSU: Seasonic X-Series 850W 80+ Gold RAM: 8GB Kingston Hyper-X Fury 1866 Mhz - DDR3 Processor: AMD FX 8350 4.0Ghz Black Edition My problem it's about the processor frequency and fan speed (I think that's the problem, I'm not so sure). When I start a game (BF4 for example) the CPU cooler starts running pretty fast, and its very noisy. I have the crappy AMD fan that comes with the CPU, but it's on perfect conditions (I bought the CPU around 7 months ago, I'm getting a Corsair H80i soon though). Anyways, after a couple of minutes playing, like 15 or so, the game starts to do some really short and fast freezing screens (not continuously, but it's annoying). Ok, now the thing it`s that the processor does the same with undemanding games, like League of Legends, with the difference that the freezing screens are not present, just the crazy CPU behaving, BUT 2 days ago, when I was still using my VERY OLD card (GTS 250, yes I know....) this didn't happened and the CPU used to work normally when I get into LoL or CoD. The issue starts since I get the new card (R9 280x Tri-x). Another thing that happened to me (just twice), it's that the screen went all white for a very short period of time (0.001 of a sec), then the game kept running. At the beginning I thought it would be this problem about artifacts which I've been reading , but for now, I don't believe the issue it's because of the GPU, and I't doesnt look like artifacts. I believe a bottleneck could be happening? Maybe something with the RAM frequency? Perhaps I shouls check the mobo's BIOS? Or maybe it's just about bad air flow? For now I have the side of the case open. I'm really no expert in matters of frequencies, voltages and that kind of things, and this is my first decent PC. This really disturbs me, this crazy fan that sounds like a F18 and those annoying freezing screens while gaming, I'm about to throw a grenade into the case. Please, if someone know a posible solution for this, I would love to know and I would really appreciate it. I'm worried that I could be damaging the system somehow.
