Hello, so, today I will be receiving a new laptop that has 4 memory slots but comes with two sticks of 4GB, and I have more laptop RAM but I don't have another laptop now to put this sticks on and see which frequency do they have. Seeing the sticks, both sides, it doesn't seems to show which frequency do they have, it should show it?

Hi, good afternoon. I have a question regarding RAM frequency supported on my laptop, so maybe you can help me out, here it goes. I have a gaming laptop and i'm looking forward to upgrade to 32gb but idk what frequency i should pick, ideally i want the highest speed, so i used "Crucial memory upgrade advisor" i it told me to buy 3200 RAM. To be sure about this i've checked on the manual of the laptop and it says this: DDR4-2400 dual channel support (DDR4-3200 bridge to DDR4-2666, DDR4-2666 downgrade to DDR4-2400) Right now i have 2 sticks of 2600 running at 2400 (idk why) according to HP this is because of factory configuration. So what speed should i buy? Does this mean that if i insert a 3200 module it's always going to run at 2400? or that depends on the RAM stick itself? what do u recommend me to do? hi, so I recently wanted to upgrade to the i7-8700k, but I found a second hand i7-7820x for about 110 euro less, and because nobody is buying x299 motherboards i got a matx board for about 70 euro less than a matx z370 board, so i got a pretty good deal, however I though I would not upgrade for a while so the money is kinda thight, I currently have two options, new 16gb/3000 mhz, or second hand 16gb/2100mhz, I will save about 70 euro, wich I can use for better cpu cooler, gpu etc. tldr: will I get any benefits with a 3000mhz ddr4 kit with x299 versus a kit that runs at 2100mhz?

Fairly new to overclocking but I was able to get my 8700k up to 5.0GHz on my MSI Z370 Gaming M5 motherboard. It might go further but that’s plenty fast for me plus the BIOS seemingly automatically upped the vcore to 1.392v when I set the multiplier to 50 which it didn’t warn me about at all and I didn’t even discover until I went back into the bios days later. My 2 questions are: 1.392 seems unnecessarily high even if it is watercooled, and 2 is it possible to make it behave like it did out of the box where it idles at 3.7GHz and a significantly lower voltage but turbos up to 5, because even when I set the turbo multiplier to 50 it still idles at 5GHz on the desktop with just hardware monitor open and very minimal background processes.

How do routers not transmit data then get confused by the received data? Do they use a slightly different frequency like 2410 mhz and 2430 mhz? I know ham radio does that on repeaters.

Sorry for the story! Hello! I am fairly new to PC building and overclocking. I bought my PC from somebody and it has worked fine so far. I upgraded my RAM and put my PC inside of a new case. My PC boots and runs fine, however I have some issues. I can run games like Doom at 1440p smooth, however when I play esports titles like Fortnite or Rocket League, my game crashes. I thought it might be from streaming the esports titles or some issue with my specs. So I didn't use obs and even turned my settings down. I think it might be my ram compatibility/motherboard/processor issue. My temps are fine and my ram doesn't max out at all. Also, I can't run my ram at above 2133mhz or I will bsod on boot. Specs: CPU: Ryzen 7 1700 OC to 3.8ghz (currently at 3.2) GPU: EVGA GTX 1080 FTW MOTHERBOARD: ASUS B350 PLUS RAM: 4x4GB G.SKILL RIPJAWS V 2400MHZ PSU: CORSAIR RM750X GOLD RATED I don't want to start buying stuff randomly because I don't have a big budget. I appreciate any help.

G.Skill Flare X 16GB (2x 8GB) DDR4 3200Mhz is $350AUD whilst the G.Skill Ripjaws V 16GB (2x 8GB) DDR4 3200MHz Memory is $250AUD Is paying extra worth any of the performance gains or is this straight up robbery? Also should I opt for 16gb 3600mhz RAM ($370AUD) for my Ryzen CPU instead of 3200mhz or not worth it either?

hello to every tech lover out here ! i'm a quiet and peacefull web designer/ video editor in France. i say that because today is the day that i stop being quiet and patient, because as much as i am, i have limits. never buy the surface book line ( 2nd generation ) if you plan of doing graphics intensive work. the fact is that, as bizarre as it can be… the gpu goes insane when connected to an external monitor via usb c to displayport, and lose so much perfs that it can't even get past a gtx 960m performance and goes lower than that ! i went and tested in details 3 surface book 15 and collected the results of a current YouTube friend "OWNORDISOWN" to have a larger idea of what the f*** is going on !, results are very bad... Be sure the gpu is giving it its best by setting the nvidia control pannel for the app you will be running into " prefer max performances" you can run afterburner or any other gpu setting fiddler you have, and look at the frequencies of both Vram and core clock….take screen shots, videos, GIF, anything that show the result of the test so we can look deeper into this sh** to take a firt look here's mine (see pictures i linked) any comment is good as long as it doesn't state anything bellow: - changing device once again - install drivers for GTX - change app - change cable - use an other PSU or disabling performance mode (i tryed and the gpu went to 94°c) because of the fan curve being slow as heck ( hello mac settings in a window machine ) - OMG UR GPU MUST BE OVERHEATING WDFBBQ, nope my gpu stand as a max of 78 °c when the card is pushing its full boost ( core at 1.8 ghz and vram at 4 ghz ) - trying to lock the frequencies via afterburner or other sofware ( tried that and it doesn't work ) have fun and a very large thank you at everyone who will take part in testing this. ps ( i know the pictures doesn't show the gpu load, because it took thos photos for "Microsoft service France" to show them it wasn't a overheating issue, but the load is at 100 % all the time)

hello everyone, how much frequency difference does a CPU need to make it faster/noticeable than one another? like for example how much of a "real world" difference does a 300MHz difference make in a processor ? please elaborate in your answers. thank you all

I have an MSI G41M-P28 motherboard, a core 2 quad q9550 running at 2.83gHz, a Geforce GTX 650 1gb and 4 gb of ddr3 memory running at 1333mhz. I bought three (not all at once, one after the other) 8gig ddr3 1600mhz memory. I inserted 2 with the original 4gig stick and in both cases the pc wouldn't post. The third one i inserted into the slot where the original stick was and still wouldn't post. After taking them out i placed them onto a test bench. In each case the motherboard was displaying the boot code 55. After a quick google search it said it was a memory issue. I sent the first 2 sticks back thinking they were dead, thought the second slot was broken and it was frying the sticks but after inserting into the surely functioning slot i ran out of ideas. Also i doubt this makes a difference but i'll list it anyways. The pc's a hackintosh running mac os x 13.4 beta 3

Hello, I don't know if this is the right subreddit since this is a Mac problem but since it is about the CPU I thought it would go here. I have a MacBook Pro 2017 15-inch with Touch Bar with 2.9GHz (base, 3.9GHz Turbo) i7 and Radeon Pro 560. The CPU speed is reported as 2.9GHz base and runs at that under macOS but when in Boot Camp Windows 10 Pro it is reported at 2.8GHz and runs at 2.8GHz constantly, no matter the power settings, temperature or CPU usage. The machine runs perfectly fine otherwise, very fast, plays BF1 and other games and renders very well under both macOS and Windows 10. Just wondering why the CPU seems to be running 100MHz slower in Windows 10. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Hi there, My Rig consists of a Ryzen 1600 on a Asus ROG Strix B350-f gaming and 16GB Ballistix 2666. Every time I change the CPU multiplier and boot int windows the frequency appears to be halved. Already changed the power mode to performance. Can anyone help? Thanks in advance

I own 16GB of G.Skill Trident Z RGB 3200 MHz speed but have not been able to reach that frequency. I have an intel core i7 8700k that I have overclocked to 5.0Ghz at 1.345v, but when I go to overclock my memory, I cannot reach speeds faster than 2666 MHz. My motherboard is the ASUS z370 Maximus Hero AC/Wifi edition. I have read online that integrated memory controllers on motherboards might affect ram speeds. Is it just my motherboard that is limiting my speeds, or is there another factor here that I am missing. Also, I have my overclock profile set on XMP. Thanks

i have a 4gb 2133 ddr4 ram can i buy a 2400 8gb ram and put them together? because i can't find the 2133 in stores and 12 gigs is noticeably better than 8

Hello, I recently bought an Acer Aspire 5 which has an i7 8550U, 4gb of RAM and a mx150 video card. Using the intel extreme tuning utility for monitoring, without altering the default settings, I noticed that when I browse Chrome, the core frequency is around 3.5-3.8Ghz (laptop plugged in), 40-50 degrees Celsius and the CPU usage stays between 1-5%. I wonder if those numbers are normal, it seems to me that the frequency and the temps are a bit higher for only browsing the web.

The title is very self-explanatory, which model should I go with? I am trying to decide which RAM module to buy a CL14 with 3200Mhz frequency or a CL17 with a 3600Mhz frequency. Can someone help me?

Hello all! So, I have an MSI GS75 Stealth-089. After looking at my memory usage, I'm looking to throw a 32GB kit into it. I know it's a royal PIA to do, but I need to add another M.2 drive anyway, and I am in the states where "VOID" stickers don't really matter. My question lies with memory frequency. The laptop comes with 2666MHz sticks. There is just a $20 difference going up to 3000Mhz. Does anyone know whether or not the current MSI line up will support this frequency? Bios rather basic and does not have any visible XMP settings. Thank you!

Is it necessary to buy a high frequency memory for 3400g? I don't have a discrete graphics card and I think the memory speed would limit my intergrated gpu's performance.

Hello every one. I have anoying issue to solve. I have AMD ryzen 7 2700x on Mortar Max b450 motherboard with Patriot Viper 4 2x8 3200mhz memory. When I try enable xmp profile for 2933 or 3200 MHz, computer don't want boot and It's retuns to 2133 MHz. I have the newest bios and i tryied changing dram voltage but this didn't work. Now I'm using this ram with 2800 MHz frequency

Typically anything below 14 is a decent speed. 12-14 is about average for today's standards. Anything near 10-11 or lower is very good. Anything under 10 is phenomenal. You should probably avoid anything above 14. This chart combines the frequency and CL combinations of practically all semi-modern to modern memory modules into a single raw performance number. This number alone doesn't mean much, but it means the world in a relative scenario like the graph above. This graph is useful if you want to compare several memory modules of different frequencies and latencies to find out which is fastest. Sometimes the faster module turns out having a lesser frequency than what you compared it against thus saving you a few monies. It could also be used in the high-end to determine which memory module will have the best performance if you're looking for the best you can get. As an example, let's say you wanted to compare the Kingston HyperX Fury Black 8GB 2133 CL14 against the G.Skill Ripjaws V Series 8GB 2400 CL16 memory modules to see which performs better (frequency and CL go hand-in-hand to determine memory performance). The Kingston stick has a worse frequency, but better CL timings while the Ripjaws stick has a higher frequency and worse CL timings. Without a graph like this, it's hard to tell which would actually perform better and you'd probably just assume it's the one with the higher frequency. Visiting the graph, the Kingston stick has a response time of 13.13 and the Ripjaws stick has a response time of 13.33. So, if you assumed the higher frequency module was faster, you were wrong; the Kingston module is slightly faster even though its frequency is less. That's solid evidence that frequency isn't everything and I hope this example showed you the usefulness of this graph. This was a modest result and you can definitely see more significant results here, but nonetheless, you just got better performance for less money by using the graph to make an educated pick. Hopefully this will save you some money while getting you better RAM performance at the same time. Depending on your hardware, it has been shown that faster RAM can get you more FPS in-game, mainly with integrated graphics or high-end hardware where your memory will likely be the weakest link. This doesn't mean you won't see more performance with mid-tier hardware, but it likely won't be as significant. Hello I am getting a cheap motherboard to go with my i3 6100 until I upgrade to ZEN or Kabylake later in the year. My problem is that most cheap skylake mobo's only support lower frequency ddr4 RAM and I have 3000MHz Ram My question is can I still use the higher RAM in the budget MOBO? I was planning to buy the Asus Z170 pro gaming motherboard and naturally landed on their website in the process. While reading the specifications on their website, I came across the 'graphic' section. It specified the maximum possible refresh rates for different resolutions. The picture shows the exact specs. So say someone has a really awesome 4K monitor with a refresh rate of 120Hz or something along those lines, will the motherboard bottleneck all of this or is it the graphics card (if present) that sets the limit for these things? Hi guys, I came across a formula to calculate RAM-bandwidth that goes as follows: frequency/2 *128bit/8 (for DDR memory). That to me means higher frequency = more bandwidth = better performance. But I am wondering why it doesn't take timings into account. So does higher bandwidth/frequency increase performance or not? Especially in professional grade application not games (I already watched Linus' video about that myth) Greetings Steve
