Hello, I'm considering an Define R5 for my next build, but I'm a tad confused about some things regarding this case for a as silent as possible build: 1) Can I install fans/radiators up-top while the sound-dampening panels are installed, or do they stop air-flow all together? They are called "moduvents", so does that mean that they are still vents, or is it just an indication that you can open them up when needed? 2) Is it possible to install a front-radiator so that the fans are outward (toward the air-filter) and the radiator is inside towards the hardware? 3) (A follow up question to the 2nd question): Is there any significant difference to push vs pull air-flow? My brain spontaneously tells me that push is always better as the High-static-pressure fans then really can push through and hinder any back-flow of the air compared to pull-style air-flow. Any other comments/tips about this case is welcome!

Which case is best for cable management airflow and general awesomeness, i am deciding on case and new motherboard. I have up to £60 for case and really £80 for motherboard. If possible can i have an opinion on case and motherboard. I would prefer black or black and red colour scheme but if you can find a better match of case and mobo, im all ears. Thanks

Hi everyone, I'm planning a mini ITX build, and I've currently got my eyes on a Node 202 from Fractal design. I'm wondering if anyone knows of anything better? I've had a little look at the NCase M1, but they're pretty pricey and out of stock for the configuration I would want if getting that. (White: with DVD slot) So, what's the best Mini-ITX cases you know of? --Edit-- Here's my current list of hardware I'm planning to get: http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/vjhdhM Anything priced at £0 I already own. --/Edit--

So this is the fan setup I'm currently thinking about using. The case fans Ill be using will be the stock GP-14's that come with the Define R5 + 1-2 more that I'm buying depending on your guys' thoughts. The heat sink will be the NH-U14S from Noctua, which comes with its own optimized fan (green) Anyways I'm wondering if the 3rd bottom intake (purple) is over kill for positive air pressure since ill only have 1 exhaust + the force of the heat sink fan forcing air out the back. I should add that the bottom fan isn't in the forward most position because that's where my HDD cage will be, unless you guys think it'd be better to have the fan in front and the HDD cage by the PSU.

Hi, Choosing to upgrade my atx case, as ive come to realise its loud and a tad ugly. Im stuck between the super quiet fractal define r5, or the imo better looking and smaller corsair carbide 400c. Though ive heard the hdd cage cover isnt great for cooling. And being very new, theres hardly any user reviews. What do you guys think? http://www.fractal-design.com/home/product/cases/define-series/define-r5-titanium-window http://www.corsair.com/en-gb/carbide-series-clear-400c-compact-mid-tower-case

Just want to hear your opinion about my planned build: Case: Fractal Define Nano S (non windowed) Mobo: Gigabyte GA-Z170N-WIFI CPU: Intel Core i7 6700K Skylake RAM: Kingston HyperX Savage 16 GB 2400 MHz CL12 (HX424C12SBK2/16) GPU: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 980 Ti Xtreme Gaming WaterForce (GV-N98TXTREME W-6GD) SSD: Samsung 512 GB 950 PRO SSD 2500/1500 MB/s HDD: 2x Western Digital 2TB Caviar Green, 3.5", IntelliPower, 64MB in RAID 1 PSU: Seasonic X-650 80+ Gold, Modular, Semi-passive cooling CPU-cooler: NZXT Kraken X61 AIO Liquid Cooler Extra: Buffalo External DVD-R/RW Unit (DVSM-PT58U2VB) Total Price (at Jimms.fi): 2524.40 EUR (= 2 817.10 USD, Yes, feel sorry for us in the Nordic Countries. You Americans have it so cheap) EDIT: I have pretty much reached my budget for this build. I had hoped for 2500 EUR including Windows, but as it looks now, Windows will fall outside of that mark as of this moment... Build Purpose: I do mostly gaming, but I also work with Adobe creative suite (Photoshop, Premiere, Lightroom, etc), and I'm about to go into Autodesk Maya 3D and Unreal Engine 4. I want a no compromise computer that will last me a very, very long time. I do this at 1440p at 16:9 (might go 21:9 in the future, but not right now). Why these components? My current PC is as loud as a milling operation for rock salt. I've grown to hate loud PCs. Thus I've chosen a somewhat over-sized cooling solution in order to keep cool temps without having to increase the fan-speeds that much, unless under some really heavy load during gaming or heavy rendering. But I also want to keep it small, taking up as little room as possible (maybe a gimmick, but I think it's interesting how powerful one can make small-form-factor PCs these days). I'd just love to have a small looks-like-nothing "sleeper"-box in the corner that will be packed with power and awesomeness. On idle load, or when just watching movies/YouTube, the computer should be more or less silent. So, do you guys have anything to comment on this build? Is it worth the money for having a state-of-the-art computer of this caliber that should last at least 10 years with the occasional GPU-upgrade and AIO-cooler replacement?

I'd love to hear from you guys, which case is best for me : The Fractal Design Define R5, or the Cooler Master MasterCase 5 (not the 'pro')? It just has to satisfy the criteria listed below... ATX Mobo. Front and Top 280mm max. radiator compatibility. 1 HDD and 1 SSD. Very Customizable (at least in terms of HDD Cage mobility and removal). Maximum Silence... Thanks!

Hi, First of all, i wish you all a happy new year. I'm new to this forum and I look forward to spend a lot of time here. I've been following Linus' videos for quite a while now and i told myself, why not visiting the forum? Anyway. I'll jump right in the topic so you guys can maybe help me: I need a new rig for around 2200$ -ish. This includes the monitor. PC-wise: I study in Graphic Designs so i need something that can run smooth with multiple-tasks like 200+ layers on photoshop and Illustrator and so on. I also have 3D classes so a nice rendering rig would be nice. Oh and i'm a heavy gamer, so there's that. Monitor-wise: I need something with the nice true colors for the Graphic Desing part but also convenient for my eyes (meaning 144z and Low Blue Light), with fast response time. In the first place, i went with this: http://www.topachat.com/pages/configomatic.php?c=0Ua65J7L7LS67GuIV6VzPw5P5oT9KyEYZu1MaZJyCEs%3D (without the monitor of course). Btw i'm from Belgium so we have € but i'll make the conversion for y'all. This is roughly about 1700$. And i wanted to buy this cracker : The BenQ XL2411Z. Which has low blue light, 1ms, 144Hz and 24", going for 300$. Then I thought that maybe this would be better (but more expensive of course) : http://www.topachat.com/pages/configomatic.php?c=I0SHqMbFyxW7gWNfJETQofl0%2FUKY3dMZqArXX7qgIew%3D It is way more expensive and I reach the budget limit and find myself tied with the monitor. Except the fact that we now run with a Skylake and DDR4, I kinda dont really like having a new-on-the-market cpu because there will be newer cpu's in the future that might go for cheaper and run better, but in the other hand i don't want to stay on an high-end cpu like the 4790k with the 1150 socket. I do not intend to OC, i repeat i do not intend to OC. (you can flame me for that if you want) My second concern is with the gpu. The GTX970 from EVGA, FTW with ACX 2.0+ running at 4gb goes for ~ 400$ and the GTX 980ti, SC with ACX 2.0+ running at 6gb goes for twice the price!! Looking at the Benchmarking scores of both the gpu's I remain skeptical. Is there such a huge difference? The monitor isn't available anywhere near me so if there is anything else going for the same price feel free to tell me. What do you guys think? Is there any way to improve my rig before it's too late? (money money) What do you recommend me ? I'm open to any suggestion. The only things that should remain on this build are : • a primary SSD with enough space to install w10, the whole Adobe serie and few drivers. • a 2nd HDD with at least 2tb • a NVIDIA gpu. (Me no like AMD, me have bad experience with it) • a 144hz Monitor with fast response time and why not G/Free - sync. (only if we dont go over the price) • The Fractal R5. I'm in love with silence and the design drives me crazy. Thanks a lot.

Is the Define S everyone's dream? I have watched many reviews online, they say it's amazing. After buying one for myself, I can confirm so because I'm not a heavy storage user and need better airflow in my sistem. The clean, sturdy look is impressing but the blue led doesnt really match my setup, not that it really matters, it's just a bit distracting.

So finally after about 2 and a half weeks of waiting for my parts, i got everything including the case. Was really excited to finally get to build my first PC but lo and behold, the f***ing accessory box for the R5 wasn't there. I tried to google to see if this had happened to anyone else and could literally only find one case of this happening before.. Has this ever happened to one of you? I'm just really pissed off at the moment.

So if I am getting the Fractal Define R5, I'm thinking that I'll mount the radiator at the front of the case because I really hate the way it looks without the top moduvents and also it would make more noise. What are the differences of mounting your rad at the front instead of the top?

Heya, folks. Currently "upgrading" from my Corsair 750D to something new. I say "upgrade", because i've realized that carrying my 750D to lans is just too much. I once had 2 GPUs, but i moved to a single, more powerful one, and i don't need the space. Anyhow, TL;DR: I need a new, small case. - It needs to be an ATX case - It needs to be able to hold the width of the Asus 980Ti (6'') - It needs to be able to hold a dual rad in the top So far i've been looking at the Corsair 450D and Fractal R5. Any suggestions, tips and links are super appreciated!

Hi all, Thanks for taking the time to read my post. Toward the end of October I will be building my Dad a workstation/light gaming PC for his home office setup, but I am torn on what case to use, the S340 from NZXT or the Arc Midi R2 from Fractal. I've heard about the S340 being a bit less fully featured than the R2 (skimping in some areas) but I am really drawn to it's full metal construction and it seems very highly regarded. I will be air cooling (reusing an old 212 Evo) and just want to know which is the better case. The price difference is negligible so that shouldn't really be a deciding factor. Thanks guys!

Hey guys, I just got a new Noctis 450 case to replace my R4. Should I cut out the hard foam from the Fractal to put in the side panels or buy soft foam? Thanks - Covert.

I have ordered the fractal design define r5 and i want to keep it quiet, silent but also okay cool and free of dust, i have 6x 120 mm scythe slip stream 800 rpm fans and of course the 2 fractal 140 mm fans, my cpu cooler is a noctua nh-d15, i think i don't need any fans in the side panel since i only have one gpu and at the bottom i don't think i can have one fan because i have a big psu, a evga supernova 1000 p2, have also read it's not making any temperature difference worth the extra noise using a fan at the bottom, i also dont want to use the top (because of the noise) with exhaust fans So how do i best without no noise (many fans) get positive air pressure, use only my scythe slip stream 120mm 800 rpm fans (3 so i can connect them to my mb, asus vii ranger z97) more then 3 fans or use the 2x 140mm fractal fans in the front (intake) and for the rest use my scythe fans or buy a 120mm fratcal fan as an exhaust(same sound,noise....), have a nzxt sentry mix 2 so i can individually control up to 9 fans with different speeds if i want to. So more intake then exhaust fans or exhaust fans at low rpm mabye 300-500 rpm and intake fans a bit higher like 500 rpm or higher?

I am going to the path of the absolute silence running my fan at: CPU @640 rpm 2x front fan at ~420 rpm (FANXpert+ troll me... says 0 rpm ) top is stop rear 370 rpm VGA fans at 30% (I could hear it only when my hair touch the fans when i'm trying to hear it ) AND THE PSU : The fan is likely silent except the annoying noise from (i guess) unbalance fan or bearing. this noise is at a certain frequency so the sound travel a lot more than the noise of the other fans This is my first build so YES I did the mistake of buying a flashy computer case with all those LED... I am a little sick of this look and I'm waiting the next sale of the Fractal Define R5 to buy it. So, do you think that the fractal define R5 can reduce that kind of noise from my Corsair CX600 I have link a .MP3 so you can hear what I talked about and i have include a picture of the recording setup... forget my terrible cable management (no room behind the motherboard tray) Corsair CX600W ticking noise.mp3

Hey all, So I've decided to do my first watercooling project. The problem is I didn't think I would ever do this when deciding on the R4. It's a great case but I'm having trouble deciding where I would mount a rad to cool my CPU and how big I should go. Any input would be great. Thanks! So, I need help finding some clean front, back, and side pictures of the R5 or R4. I'm doing some texture work in the sims 3 and I'm trying to make a little replica of the Define. I'll provide some screenshots once I'm done

Just got a 212 EVO after getting annoyed with the stock cooling, just wanted to know what the orientation/placement for it in my Fractal Design Define R4. P.S: If you Define R4's, you know they have sound dampening foam on the top. I have those on my case, would it be beneficial to remove them?

Hey everyone. I've had this case lying around for a while and since i was kinda bored i decided to do a casemod. I simply painted it matte white! I've always wondered how it would look in white since there is NO ONE on the internet who has painted this case white. I did it and I was not disappointed! The paintjob itself is quite bad tbh. I didn't sand it down before painting, nor did i use any primer. I didn't even wipe off the surface for crying out loud The main reason i painted see how it would look in white. The paint chips really easily so i don't see myself building in this case, unless i redo the whole paintjob... So FRACTAL DESIGN if you are reading this, pleeeeeease make a white version asap! Here is the link to the whole album: http://imgur.com/a/a3Msg Please leave your opinion and thoughts below! All photos taken with my OnePlus One

Hello Forum, Currently working up a shopping list for my next PC and I am having a hard time choosing a case. Here is what I am looking for: Size: ATX, mid tower or full tower. Open to an mATX if its spacious. Radiators: 2x240 minimum, prefer 1x 360 & 1x 240 Dont need 5" bays, and prefer without. Dust filters are a must. Decent side window, id like to see my res, etc. 2x SSD mounts, 2x HDD mounts, removable HDD cages. Fractal Define S is the top of my list atm. Look forward to your posts!! Thanks!
