This is my build log (mostly photos as didn't take many when was building in June due to bad camera). This build started out as a streamline to my old build which was a mix and match of parts I could afford at the time. That build was upgraded with a H60SE a 7950 DCUII Top and a new HDD and SSD. That build has since been sold to my father without the original 560ti Hawk which is to be sold and the 7950 DCUII Top was salvaged for this new rig. Everything else is new. It started with the basic parts of my build also running off my old HDD and SSD (WD Caviar Black 1TB and OCZ Vertex 3 60GB). These parts are Intel Core i5 4670K, ASUS Maximus VI Hero, ASUS 7950 DCUII Top (Boost), H100i (Silverstone AP121), AX 760, Fractal Design Arc Midi R2, 2x4GB Corsair Vengeance Pro RAM, LG Blu-ray Combo Drive, 3x CM Sickle-flow Red LED Fans This now doesn't have the old HDD and SSD (swapped for Samsung 840 Evo 250GB and a Seagate 2TB SSHD), removed the internal ODD for a external DVD one, swapped the CM fans for the stock fractal fans and added an extra 2x4GB kit of RAM. The following post will have the now pictures and I will have an extra spots on the forum thread for additional upgrades.

Are the hard drive cages in the front of the Core 3000 BOTH removable? I want to install an SSD and HDD inside the 5.25" bay up top, and get rid of the hard drive cages to make room for more airflow. Would I just need to unscrew the the top and bottom, or is the bottom one permanently attached?

Hi forum, I just signed up so this is my very first post in this forum. As you may have guessed by the title of this topic, I have a question related to the Fractal Node 304 and a PSU for it. I've been doing quite a lot of reading on this topic, but I havn't really been able to find an answer to my question, even though there are many threads about this issue in all kinds of forums. So I'm looking into doing a fairly high-end ITX build inside a Fractal Node 304. The main purposes of this build are going to be gaming, some video editing and 3D work. It is supposed to be quiet, super-compact and deliver some serious performance at the same time. Here's a quick list of the hardware I intend to use: CPU: i7 4770k Mobo: Asus Z87I-Pro Cooler: NZXT Kraken X40 RAM: 16 gigs of Kingston HyperX black (1600mhz) GPU: AMD R9 290 (non-x) (waiting for non-reference coolers, something like an ASUS DirectCUII is what I'm hoping for) SSD: 240 GB Crucial M500 HDD: 1TB WD Green Case: Fractal Node 304 Fans: 2x Noctua NF-B9 92mm and 1x Noctua NF-A14 I'm pretty sure that I've found the best possible bang-for-buck-ratio with the components I have selected so far, at least with the prices here in Germany. But here's the problem I can't seem to find a solution to: I need a PSU that can deliver at least 600 W (that's what various online PSU-calculators have told me, at least) and it needs to fit the Node 304 with the fairly long R9 290 installed. That alone isn't a problem, as I could go with the Corsair CX600 or the be quiet! Pure Power l8 600W. But I don't want all those super-long cables inside the case, obstructing airflow and ruining the looks. I've been told that Modular PSUs will not fit the Node 304 with a long GPU in it. I would love the PSU to be modular in order to minimize the cable-mess I'm going to end up with and maximize airflow. Either that or a non-modular one that has very short cables. Also, I would want it to be 80+ rated and be as quiet as possible. So here's my question in a nutshell: does anyone know of a modular power supply that is short enough to fit the Node 304 with the R9 290 installed, while at the same time delivering at least 600 Watts and not completely breaking the bank? Thanks in advance, nj4ck

Hello everyone! I have posted about this topic once before and I've come up with another build. I am planning to build a gaming PC for circa 1600 USD(11 000 SEK) (including the OS). I live in Sweden and I will most likely be ordering my parts from this and this store. As I've said this will be a gaming PC, so I'll be playing any modern titles but mostly FPS games such as BF4 and Arma 3. This is what I've come up with so far, but I would love to hear any suggestions on what I can improve from you guys before I pull the trigger and buy the parts! CPU: Intel Core i5 4670K CPU cooler: Be-Quiet Shadow Rock Pro SR1 Hyper 212 evo Mobo: Gigabyte UD3H RAM: Corsair Vengeance Pro blue 1600MHz (2x4GB) GPU: Asus 760 R9 280X Case: Fractal Design XL R2 PSU: Corsair RM750 Storage: 2x Seagate Barracuda 64MB (1 TB)(general storage in RAID 1) Samsung 840 evo 120GB (OS ) OS: Windows 8.1

Hi linustechtips I'm running out of storage and need more. My first thought is that I should get a NAS, an external HDD is not even close enough to meet the requirements I have. I'm going to try to make this post and my requirements as simple as possible. Homemade or complete? I've never done a NAS build before. I have build PCs before and I find it easy and fun. Aesthetics means a lot to me, since your battle station is out in the open and you have to look at it everyday. Therefore I might prefer a homemade NAS if the price difference between a homemade and complete NAS isn't to insane. What is the cheapest solution, homemade or complete? How much storage do I need? Most of the NASs I've seen are only with two slots, I'll need 4, at least. The, at least, 4 slots will be populated with 3tb WD Red HDDs (think the current highest capacity is 3tb). What do I need the NAS for besides storage? I'm an owner of a desktop Win7, MacBook Pro and an iPhone 5. So I want to be able to access the NAS from all 3 devices, mostly the Win7 and MBP. My MBP is generally for work/school and has a lost of personal stuff on it and therefore I want to be able to make backups of it to the NAS. I've tried this before, to make backup to an internal drive in my Win7 and I couldn't get it to work. So if the case is the same here I will get an external HDD for that. I want to be able to run torrents of the NAS. Possibly many at the same time. I will load the movies off of the NAS and play them from my PC. So the NAS wont be doing any decoding. In case a homemade NAS is the choice for me: What is the best NAS/server software? Like I said this is new to me. I know Apple has there server version of the OSX like Windows has as well. I will be open to both if they can meet my requirements. Back to aesthetics. My current desktop case is an ancient Antec Nine Hundred, which I will swap out with something like a Corsair 750D or similar. I like the brushed aluminium look it has. I've been thinking about to use the Fractal Design Array R2 Mini ITX NAS Case1 (I couldn't get the link with text instead of the url to work, so link will be in the bottom). I've chosen this case because it got the same brushed aluminium. In the future I want to make a HTPC as well and have kind of fallen in love with the Fractal Design Node 6052. That's pretty much all the info I could think of. Please let me know if there's anything else I should consider or I've missed. Can't wait to get some answers Anyway, peace! Im sorry to say that my R4 just isnt working out. Everything is just very crammed and nothing is getting very sufficient airflow. Also, Im looking to do push/pull with my h100i and there is not enough room, it already skims the motherboard with two fans on it. I just need something bigger, but high quality.

Check it out here. http://www.fractal-design.com/ Edit: Why is the Arc Mini R2 under the discontinued section?

So recently go the okay from the wife to upgrade my pc case. I cant decide on what case i should be get. I have about a $200 budget but if i get something cheaper i cant get the individually sleeved cable extensions mainly cause I'm too lazy and scared to make my own and they are about $30. That being said i lake a clean look and will be using a corsair h100i so it need to support that i have a blue themed build must have window to show the "bling". My personal thoughts are the corsai AIR540,, Vengeance c70, 750D or the Fractal define R4 white with window. the pc resides in the living room. would like quite and good dust prevention. Thanks

I looking at the Corsair 350D and the Fractal Design Arc Mini R2 to replace my Silverstone PS07 and was wondering what the community thinks. I'm torn between the two. The Arc Mini has a smoked black window which I would prefer to be more transparent like the 350D. The 350D has a flimsy/unfiltered top intake where I prefer the Arc Mini in that regard. Those are my only gripes with the cases and I know they could be fixed by a little modding but that's not something I'm comfortable with doing. So what do you guys think? Which one would you choose and why?

So, my Fractal Design ARC Mini R2 arrived today... Gotta say I agree with @LinusTech, hard foam for packaging is pretty bad! I probably got the case Linus reviewed B)

Hey, My brother is worried about this Pc's cooling, and is looking to add few more fans. Case currently has one in front, top and back, all 140mm. Problems is that the case only has three fan connectors. What is the ideal way to get more connectors? Is there some kind cable that would split one of the 3pin connectors? Would it give enought power to 140mm fans? Plan is to add one fan to front and one to side panel. He has Fractal design (Thor?) case. This looks pretty close, couldn't find the his actual case: http://www.fractal-design.com/media/332581a1-a177-4bd7-b6ee-29746564882b

Hi, guys. I'm upgrading my PC soon so I have a quick question for you. I built my rig back in 2012, everything is new exept for my old case from 2004. It has no cable managment options, terrible air flow (just bad) so I had no choice but to just throw everything in there and hope it works I was going to buy a new case soon, but I just didn't. Now it's time to upgrade it. Here's how my PC looks right now PC Specs: CPU Intel Core i5 3330 3.0Ghz Motherboard ASUS P8B75-M LE (µATX) RAM Kingston HyperX B 4GB DDR3 (2x2GB) GPU ASUS HD7770 1GB GDDR5 Case Old unknown case Storage Seagate 465GB PSU Corsair CX600 600W Builder Series Display ASUS VS239HV IPS 24" FullHD Cooling 1 cheap 120mm fan Keyboard MS Office Keyboard Mouse MS mouse Sound on-board sonud card Paid it 860 USD (502 GBP). Note in my country (Croatia) tax on everything you buy is 25%. Now I'm thinking of buying Fractal Design ARC Mini R2 with some LED Corsair AF120.....i don't know, I'm still thinking. What are your thoughts on Fractal Design ARC Mini R2?

NCIX: http://bit.ly/1spqABd Amazon: http://geni.us/Pxp Our review of the Fractal Core 3500 is here. We love all of the Fractal people, and we all know that they have created a variety of fantastic cases – some of which have become industry standards. But does the Core 3500 meet the high standards we now expect all Fractal cases to achieve? http://youtu.be/i3FqOjxn8cQ

Hi guys... I have some money lying around and I think I want to spend it on watercooling. At the moment I have a H80i cooling a 3570k. And i feel that the h80i is a bit under powered and without any oc i am reaching 60/70 C (I know its the summer).. But anyway, that is just an excuse for buying new pc products;) I am new to (proper) watercooling so I think buying a kit with all the parts I need is the best/safest idea. I am drawn between these two kits. (bearing in mind I would rather pay less for a tiny bit less performance. Here are the two kits: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=WC-265-XS&groupid=962&catid=1532 ( XSPC Raystorm 750 EX240 Kit) http://www.scan.co.uk/products/alphacool-nexxxos-cool-answer-240-lt-st-kit (Alphacool NexXxos Cool answer 240 LT/ST kit) PS I have a fractal arc midi r2 (for compatibility) Thanks

Hello, I recently bought a Fractal Design ARC Mini R2. I'm thinking of putting LED fans and strips inside.... I'm too lazy to write it down, so I made some pics. My problem is, the side window is smoked. If I put green LEDs in there, will it look good? Also, the front filter is not really designed for it.... This question is aimed for Fractal ARC Mini R2 users, but all answers/comments are much more then welcome!

Hi, my names Luke i am new to the forums so if there is any tips you can give me then go ahead. Ok well getting into the point of this topic as you can probably guess i have a fractal design r4 i know that i really want water cooling i have heard the pros and cons of it and the pros and cons of custom loops but i just want a simple closed loop. I have a amd fx 8320 and just stock on there at the moment. So what coolers do you recommenced that will fit in this case and also where as well as the configuration for example dual rad at the top of the case with push pull and tell me if it will like fit in and clearance and stuff like that. Thanks to anyone that replies and helps me out just asking you guys out there that already have water cooling in the fractal design r4. Oh yeah and btw i have no side fan since i got a windowed version.

Hey! (This is my first post, so tell me if I do something wrong.) I just got my new Fractal Design Define r4 case & Fractal Design Integra r2 750w psu. I'm currently using MSI Z87-G43 GAMING motherboard. My problem is; Fractal Design says both in the manual and the webpage (http://www.fractal-design.com/home/product/power-supplies/integra/integra-r2-750w) that the Fractal Design Integra r2 750w contains a Atx12v 8pin connector, but I can't find the right cable. Do I have to use my old PSU, which had this Atx 12v 8pin connector? Thanks.

Hey, I have a Define R4 and I wanna take the bottom drive cage and replace it with the bottom drive cage from a Define XL R2. Is it possible to do something like? And if so is there anywhere I may be able to buy a drive cage for a Define XL R2. Thanks.

Hey everyone, This is my first post and it's about a build I am planning. This build is going to be AMD based and I'll be using it for general web usage, light gaming, and also as a workstation for audio recording (I'm an amateur musician who is recording some music individually). Edit: The processor I have picked out is the AMD FX-6300 6-core @ 3.5G, I was thinking an Asus mobo, Corsair RAM, Fractal case, Samsung 840 pro SSD, a WD green 500GB drive I already have, a Corsair HX 650 psu, corsair h55 all in one cooler, an Asus all in one cd/dvd drive, and maybe a PCI sound card. I don't need a monitor or other peripherals, and my budget is less than 1000USD, shopping on Newegg for now. I would want this machine to run quietly, probably going to get 8 on it, although 7 pro is an idea, and I don't care for lights and whatever, just quiet and stable. any ideas on a mobo to get? anything else I have missed? Appreciate the feedback. I am a first time builder and was looking at these two cases. However, i cannot decide. In a case i want good airflow/cooling, easy cable management, and easy to work in case. Keep in mind that for my cpu cooler i will be using a Noctua NH-D15, so if it can fit that it would be great!
