I'm trying to wipe my secondary hard drive because I did a clean install of windows on my main M.2 NVMe drive and would like to wipe the hard drive, however, when I go into my Admin account and try to format it, it pops up with errors along the lines of "An application is using files from this drive, close those applications and try again." I made sure no other accounts are open, and the only other processes open are ones from the C-Drive (I checked Task Manager) so how exactly do I wipe it? I tried both File Explorer's method (going to "My PC --> format") and Disk Partition Manager's method and neither worked (disk partition's format button was greyed out, I.E un-clickable) so not sure what to do. How do I fix this?

Hello! I have a question regarding new storage and moving from one to another. I have always assumed that if I get new storage and I want to move my main windows installation there, I would have to format, then re-install windows in the new one, or just have two windows installations for both disks, then after I am done with the latest one, I move as many files as I can and then delete the previous one entirely. Are there programs that can help me move a windows installation from one disk to another? Keep in mind that I have more than 1 disks that are used (without windows) with shortcuts to their items, so will that program preserve the disk letters and shortcuts for them? Are there any videos from Linus about that topic? Please tell me everything that I need to know and to be careful of

I was trying to unformat and the reformat my usb drive, But i think i deleted too many things now it doesn't exist anymore. Diskpart says it's 0 bytes. Can i fix it somehow. The first picture is from "this computer" and says movable drive. The second picture is from "device manager" and says no media.

I've got a normal VHS tape and a D-VHS player. I need to know if there's some form of incompatibility between them because information is sparse online. The audio works but the video is heavy with artifacting. Could also be tape degradation or something else. (https://vimeo.com/manage/videos/523482515)

RE: To prefix, I can only find my older post on this topic that seems to have died, and this same topic in storage forum. If this is the wrong place let me know! I have a 128Gb NVME drive from KingDion that will not format. Using diskpart i can get to 100% then errors out saying incorrect procedure. Following others suggestions I have ran both a clean and clean all command however both error out incorrect as well. Is there any way to get past this without downloading some random program?

So, I had this idea about making an automatic dumping station for memory cards, that I kinda wanted to use at an upcoming LAN event. The idea was to have a sort of station, where both me and others in the photo crew could just insert a memory card in to a memory card reader, and then the "station" would automatically copy them over to a new folder on a hard drive, and once it was done copying the files, it could format the memory card (and maybe make a sound to signal it was done, just to remove the need for a monitor), having the momry card ready for anoither round of photography. I was also thinking that it should maybe be network attached as well, so that we'd be able to access the files for editing, withoiut having to move around on the hard drive, and for the ability to upload photos to it, if the station were occupied. I have a Raspberry Pi 3B+ that I thought could be used for this, together with an external HDD, and a multi memory card reader (so that I have support for both SD and CF cards). Currently we're only 3 people in the photo crew, which is why I thought this would be decent equipment for the idea, my big problem however is that, whilst I think it's a great idea, I really don't know how to actually do it... My big questions are: What OS would be the most practical for this? Which programming language would be the most suitable? And just, how would you do it? I'm still relatively fresh to programming, trying my best to learn, so any help, suggestions and/or ideas would be highly appreciated. I also want to apologize for any bad English here (grammar, spelling, phrasing etc.), it's not my native language, but I still hope you understand. Thank you

Hello, I have made a Windows 10 boot drive on my Sandisk USB and formatted my M.2 NVMe PCIE SSD. I then go to settings, Update & Security, Recovery then Advanced start up. I select in the menu to use my Sandisk UEFI to custom install Windows 10 to my Drive 2 (My M.2 NVMe PCIE SSD) and enter my code. It tells me my EFI system partition was formatted as NTFS and should be FAT32. Also, for some reason my empty Sata III SSD got partitioned to hell after this with tonnes of recovery partitions which I cannot delete. Drive 0: My HDD with my OS currently installed. Drive 1: Empty Sata III SSD. Drive 3: Empty M.2 NVMe PCIE SSD which I want to put Windows 10 on. Drive 4: My Sandisk USB I set up using: https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/software-download/windows10 automatically. Does this mean when Windows turned my USB into a boot drive it formatted it wrong? Or is my SSD formatted wrong (Because I tried making my SSD FAT32 and NTFS and it always tells me to make it the other one)?

Near as I can tell, the PC h tried hardware is working. I am trying to install Windows on a 500 GB Samsung EVO SSD. The first time I tried i had an error message that I thought I resolved by unplugging the mechanical HDD I had installed, leaving the SSD as the sole storage. Windows began installing. I looked away from the screen for a bit and looked back up and saw I was back at the install screen. I tried to start the installation again but got an error message at the screen where I have to select the drive to install Windows. The first time (without the HDD connected) the SSD had no partitions. But this time "Drive 0" had 2 partitions. Partition 1 System Reserved 579.0 MB and Partition 2 465.2 GB. But "Windows cannot be installed to this disk. the selected disk has an MBR partition table. On EFI systems, Windows can only be installed to GPT disks. Near as I can tell the Windows installer must have been the one to partition the disk. But my question is how do I reformat the drive as a GPT disk without having an OS installed? Is there a way to get the Bios to format the drive? Thanks.

So I have a very big problem. About three months ago I needed to install fresh windows into a new laptop, so I used my Samsung M3 Portable 1TB hard drive as a bootable usb, as I didn't have a real usb i could use at the time. I moved all of the files to my other computer and did everything else on the Samsung hdd. When I installed windows and everything, I wanted to reformat the portable hdd into a usable one. And I did such a big mistake, being a dummy, I formatted it into FAT32 instead of NTFS that it should've been. So later on thinking everything was okay I moved the files from my other PC into the samsung and everything was moving like it should've been, the speed was good and everything was fine. Thinking everything was done I tried to see if files moved out of the samsung hdd the same speed as before and to my surprise it didn't. Files moved from the samsung hdd into my pc veeery slow - like 1 picture in 1 minute, the speed fluctuates from 30mbs down to 0 like every 2 seconds and doesn't come back up for atleast 15 more seconds before coming down really fast. Now to fix this I know that I need to reformat it again, but the problem is I NEED EVERY SINGLE FILE FROM IT, which is over 200GB, so what should I do? I am really hopeless at this point and any help would be really appreciated. Maybe I should just bring it to the proffesionals or can I fix this an home? Some things that may be helpful: I didn't touch (plugged in) the samsung hdd for 3months so it shouldn't be corrupted as I read somewhere. I am trying Photorec right now and it doesn't work, I tried searching two times, first time it recovered one photo and now the second time I used different settings or something and I hope it recovers more. I didn't leave the files on my PC, just moved it into the Samsung HDD

So I don't know if I phrased that very well, but basically, I am just about to finish my pc build. All I have left to put in is my storage... But I'm a little confused. I have a fresh, brand new 500 GB SSD from Samsung and am planning on using my old 2 TB HDD after formatting it. I think formatting is the word, pretty much I want to start fresh. SSD for Windows, programs, and maybe a game or two. HDD for mass storage. Pretty much how do I get a clean slate? If I'm understanding this correctly (and there's a chance that I am) - there are 3 variables to video file formatting: 1.) Container (I've chosen .MOV); 2.) Video codec (I've chosen H.264); and 3.) Audio codec (I've chosen AAC). How stable are these formats in the long run? I am in the midst of a long and arduous process of creating a beautifully organized archive of all of the data I've created and accumulated over the course of my life. I'd like to one day pass it along to my kids, and hopefully they can even pass it along for a few more generations as well. So far, all of my video files are in the stated format. Ideally, I do not want to run them through another compression. For those who are curious, my photos are all in .JPG format and my documents are all in plain text .TXT format. I welcome any input on improving the long-term stability of this archiving project.

Hello everyone, I'm trying to reinstall Windows 10 on my 500GB Samsung 850 EVO SSD. When I get to the part where I can select which partition I want to install it on, here is what I see : I click on "New", and then "Apply" when it warns me that Windows might have to create extra partitions. This is what I get : I select that Drive 2 Partition 4, and try to install it. It gets to the next step (where it copies the file) but it stops soon after with this error : What am I doing wrong? I tried using "diskpart" to format the volume to FAT32 but it says that it's too big. Thanks for the help!

I’ve just got a new hard drive but my mac won’t accept it as boot unless it’s formatted in a mac readable format - it’s simply not readable by the volatile system (which is what’s run if no OS is found). I’ve ordered a usb to sata cable to format the drive from another mac, but can i format the drive (as OS X extended journaled) in windows? tl:dr --> How do i format a clean ssd as OS X extended journaled, as opposed to exFAT etc., from a pc? Thanks -Harry

Hey Guys, I have a 256GB WD Black PCIe Gen3x4 NVMe SSD and I run on an Alienware 15 R2 ( I don't know the specs of this laptop in depth). I'm trying to boot Windows 10 on it so I can boot with the SDD and still use my 1TB HDD and I can't seem to get it to work and I've tried formatting it, but I can't seem to be able to format it using Disk Management or even format it using the windows 10 CD. Every time I format using Disk Management it will format to 100% then say it failed and its no better trying to format using the windows disk

I've kept all the laptops and PCs my family goes through so I can use them for backups and RAIDS. However, all the HDDs seem to have some kind of feature is preventing me from viewing or modifying partitions. My computer recognizes the drives and S.M.A.R.T. reports the drives are working. I've tried removing permissions, formatting and repairing through cmd. If someone had a solution that doesn't involve restoring old laptops please let me know.
