I am currently running Folding@Home on a full load, and expected to see my cores all boost to 4.2Ghz (the all core boost speed), however they do not pass the 4.0 mark, except for maybe 1-2 seconds. The 3900x gets a 4.6Ghz boost on single core performance, but all core is supposed to hit up to 4.2Ghz. Anyone have a solution...?? Also, the 3900x doesn't run any cooler than 86c when it is under 100% load, I figured it should be lower than that since it is being cooled by a 360mm AIO with 3 Noctua fans pumping air at 100% load (around 2000rpm each). 3900x is NOT overclocked, I am holding off on that until I can get cooling under control. PS: Motherboard BIOS is updated to latest. Specs for PC in my signature.

Hello, First post on the forum, so trying to get it right. I want to participate in the folding @ home month with LTT. I tried to install the client on an old Client, I run Ubuntu 18.04 (32bit). I can't find a client to download for the 32bit version. The only thing I find is the fahcontrol. I hope someone can help me try find something i would be really thankful. Cheers DerEichler

I have three Playstation 3s, a couple Playstation 2s, an original Xbox, and two Xbox 360s. They're all operational, and just collecting dust. Anyone know if there is a way to boot Linux or something onto the consoles and then use them for F@H? I think that would be a good use for them until they kick the bucket.

So I am trying to fold using my Unraid server. I have the docker installed and the GPU (Quadro K4000) set up per the instructions on the docker web page. I have tried this on Unraid versions 6.7.0 and 6.7.2 (with Nvidia drivers via Unraid Nvidia plugin) and I know the install is good because Plex uses the GPU without issue. The problem is the GPU worker keeps failing. The log is saying the worker doesn't see the CUDA version, which believe to be the stem of this issue. Has anyone tried this and had success? I'm at a loss here. Thanks in advance.

So, say I wanted to build a dedicated folding rig with multiple graphics cards. Call the starting price $1,500 -$2,000 with future expansion. I'm trying to figure out what the hardware should be to optimize folding but minimize cost. Any thoughts would be appreciated as I am new to this and don't really understand how the client uses the hardware yet. Thoughts thus far (and feel free to correct misconceptions.) Case: full tower lying on its side, panel replaced with mesh and a custom exhaust system on top. Rationale: not letting multiple graphics cards cook each other in a vertical configuration, but still with lots of room. Maybe even forego this for a simple DIY box. Mobo: multiple pcie 3 x16 slots, preferably four. CPU: overclockable with onboard graphics for the monitor, but maybe only 6-8 cores (one for up to four video cards, the rest to handle the scutwork of the OS.) CPU folding doesn't seem to be worth an investiture in lots of cores to fold with. Or would something like a 32 core Threadripper be worth it? Can you gang cores for workunits? (I know that blows the budget, but if so better to budget something different for 2021 than live with a mistake now.) Memory: does folding use much RAM? Maybe 8gb? Does speed matter? Storage: one 128gb SSD m.2 for the OS, another for the client. Or would RAMdrive work with F@H? Video cards: how many to cram into one case? Four, eventually? Here's where the big money will go. Are there still dedicated types like those miner cards Linus did a video about still being made? If so, useful for folding? Power: go large to start so I don't have to replace it later, maybe 1000-1200w? -

Hi all, it has been awhile since I last folded and just recently started back up again. I am running two GPU in my system: ASUS STRIX GTX 1080 ~550k-600k PPD Gigabyte GTX 1070 ~500k PPD From what others are saying the GTX 1080 should be getting upwards of 800k PPD. I am I doing something wrong? Hey all, Just got into the folding scene and trying to figure some stuff out. When I first installed FAH it would not start a GPU project and was stuck in READY while trying to repeat/start a project. Reinstalled FAH and now it is running the GPU instead of being stuck in Ready mode. The problem is the speed at which it is running. FAH is set to full, but the GPU is sayin 1.11+ days (sometimes up to 5 days) and not even touching my GPU utilization. The Estimated TPF (time per fold?) is bounding anywhere from an hour to ~15 mins. I'm using CUPID HWMonitor to check loads, therms, etc. and the GPU is running around 8-12%. What is going on here? Will this correct itself or is there a setting I need to change?

Hello, The folding month is coming in very soon, and I’ve fired up a second system (just my test bench with 2 7970s) to help out. The problem is, I’m running on dated hardware (Q8200+ASUS P5B Deluxe). It isn’t bad or anything, but I have some unique problems. The first GPU is fine, performing normally. The second is... running at PCIe 2.0 speeds on a 2x connection. This is because the only way for me to get internet access on this thing (it’s in a remote spot because, heat) is to use a PCIe WiFi adapter, and the only way to do that is to use a riser on the 1x slot and use the GPU at 2x speeds. I was planning on overclocking the CPU and maybe the GPU, but that does not help the 2x problem. Would it be better to use a third system with the other 7970 and a weaker CPU or just keep the ASUS? Thanks. -
I think I would be really neat and kind of fun to be able to have our FAH activity listed on our profile, maybe somewhere near where the badges are. This display could be enabled in the profile settings if a particular person wanted to share their information. I have advanced client open, but when I try to make my gtx 950 fold it wont do anything. Just says ready. Any suggestions?

There's a couple of Mobile Apps around for Folding at Home. I use Christian Virtual's F@H Mobile Monitoring for iPad. I usually run this on my iPad so I can lie on the couch and keep an eye on things without having to get off my lazy ass. The App is a little buggy or the information thrown at it a little too intense for iOS so it often needs to be shutdown and restarted. It will allow you to start, pause and finish slots and shows progress for each slot. It does not, however, support remotely monitoring your folding outside of your local LAN but there seems to be some undocumented settings in place for integration with openvpn. HFMnet is a project started by Harlam to monitor folding systems. It only runs on Windows but give a nice tight view of your Folding Rigs. It is also capable of generating web pages and uploading them to a web server but this functionality is limited due the lack of support for any file transfer protocol other than FTP which WILL send your username and Password in the clear. Other functionality includes an ability to send email notifications on Hung Clients. Hello All! I am using a iMac to do some folding using the Folding@Home Chrome Web version. When it is set to full, Everything works fine, but when I set it to Medium and Light, I hear a clicking sound, Multiple times a second. Does anyone have any Advice? Thanks SystemsAdmin67

I was doing some maintenance on my folding rigs this morning and as the topic of CPU Utilization for GPU Folding seems to come up now and then I thought I'd post some graphs. My primary folding rig is based on a Gigabyte Z370 Aorus Gaming 5 with 2 x 4GB GSkill RipJaws V GDDR4 2400 (6.43GB average free) and a dual core, quad thread 3.7GHz Intel Pentium Gold G5400 This CPU, while likely under powered for most productivity tasks, is more than up to the job of keeping a EVGA GTX 1070 Ti SC Black and a EVGA GTX 1060 6GB SC fed and running at 91.6% and 97% utilization respectively in their PCIe3 x16 slots both running at x8. The OS is Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS Server. Here is the CPU utilization while pausing folding on the GTX 1070 Ti: My secondary folding rig is based on a salvaged Acer AX3400 ITX nForce motherboard with an 2.9GHz AMD Athlon II X2 220 dual core processor and 3GB DDR2 1333 Memory (1.88GB average free) and a EVGA GTX 1060 6GB SC Short-Board. The OS is Ubuntu 18.04 LTS (Desktop). Here is what it's CPU Utilization looked like around the same time: This CPU has to work a little harder to keep the GPU in it's single PCIe2 x 16 slot fed and running at 94.61% utilization.

500th POST YAY I was getting my system out of the dust for folding@home and I have a problem. It has a Quadro 600 in it but it cant fold. The CPU folding works fine but the GPU is just stuck on waiting for idle but I have set it to fold permanently not just when idle.

I keep getting 16:41:21:WARNING:WU00:FS00:Exception: Failed to send results to work server: Failed to connect to 40.114.52.201:80: No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it. Can I change the IP to make it send the results to a working server? I can see on https://apps.foldingathome.org/serverstats that 40.114.52.201 is down. -

hello, so the question is in the title really. my current build is in my signature. eventough my CPU and my motherboard support PCIe 3.0, a firmware update from intel limits all E5-V1 CPU's to be ran at PCIe 2.0 speeds. my titan X is getting about 900K PPD running on 2075Mhz, while other users report 1.3M+ PPD on these cards with such overclocks. could it be that it is being choked through the PCIe bandwith? i have done some reasearch and in the folding process the GPU is being fed with blocks of data to process constantly over the PCI bus. so i guess it would make sense? any help is greatly appreciated! -

Hey, when GPUs on the secondary markets become extremely cheap when mining slows down can you fold with 19 GPUS on one board? I saw the Asus B250 mining expert board and thought it would be extremely efficient to fold with. My main question is does Folding at Home support 19 GPUs per board? If so I would love to see LTT do an episode of this on that crazy rig that they have. Thank you for all of the responses in advance!

Hello, I had noticed that my 1050ti was barely raising my gpu usage over 10 percent and was wondering if there was a way to raise the usage up to atleast 50%. at the moment I can play a game like arma and still get the same score on folding even with an intensive task running. Please help

I noticed an interesting quirk with the Folding badges: They're based on Points, not time invested. Here's a chart of PPD for various GPUS: http://www.overclock.net/t/475163/gpu-projects-ppd-database The Titan XP, with a PPD of over 1.5 million, could earn the "Bender" badge in under 24 hours. Contrast that with me, running the chrome client on CPU and getting 6,000 PPD. Now, let me be clear- the current badge system is great. I realize that these fancy gpu owners have contributed a LOT more than I have to the F@H project, and they deserve the badges. However, in terms of recognition for support, I believe there should be a badge for actual time spent folding. I'm not sure if there's a way to track this, but if there is, shouldn't those users who have spent many hours running on underpowered equipment get the same recognition as those with powerful GPUs? I'd love to hear all your thoughts on this.
