Budget (including currency): ~$3000 CAD (give or take) Country: Canada Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Minecraft, Valorant, Cyberpunk 2077, HL Legacy, VS Code, IntelliJ Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): I have all the peripherals I'll ever need, and then some more I'd like to get some 27inch 1440p 144hz monitors. I currently have two monitors that I use hooked up to my MacBook which I will use until I decide to get new monitors. Suggestions for good gaming monitors would be really appreciated! (They can be outside of the budget stated above, they would be bought at a later date most likely) https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/9BCZVw This is the list of components me and a friend picked out, I've been told it might be a bit overkill for what I'm planning to do, but I really just don't want any bottlenecks whatsoever, as well as some future proofing If anyone has any advice on what I should change and what choices are actually idiotic, I would really appreciate it!

So, I posted here before with a parts list that i threw together rapidly, and wasn't very good. Someone replied to that post with an alternative that I quite liked the look of, but by the time I got around to looking at buying these parts, a few were no longer available. SO. I picked out some alternatives, trying to keep as close to the recommendations they made as possible, but my lack of knowledge on this front is making me worried about trusting these picks. So I throw this list to y'all, and hopefully you can see what I can't, or confirm I'm not about to lose a sizeable amount of my hard earned money. For reference, this is the desired computer description I had on that post: Budget (including currency): 1500 - 2000 Usd. I'd like to keep the PC itself down to around 1500, and keep the rest for peripherals and the like. Country: United States Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: It's going to be used as an everything machine. The three main points are somewhat modern games,(think more like fallout 4 and vermintide 2 than halo infinite), 3d modeling in blender, and to be capable of streaming. Other details: ID like to be able to run games at mid to high settings at a consistent 60fps while running other things like OBS. For resolution, I would love to reach 1440p , but something that could be moved over to 4k later down the line would be great. I don't want to go super huge on peripherals, and I have a functional mouse and keyboard already, but it would be nice to know about some better yet still reasonably priced alternatives. I'm going to be jumping from a 1650 ti (In original post I said 1080ti, Which is incorrect.) laptop to whatever I build, so no matter what I'll be seeing this as an improvement. Also, I'm going into this without any sort of OS, so recommendations on that front would be appreciated. And here is the link: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/j9bV8r Any help is Appreciated. I REALLY don't want to screw this up Edit: More availability problems have changed up the list. Edit changed link. -Shy

Budget (including currency): $1000 USD Country: USA Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Games: more rpg/open world type, Assassin’s Creed, Dragon Age, Mass Effect, etc, some Minecraft, Roblox Work: general Microsoft and Google Suite work. May need lots of tabs open in Chrome Other details: I don’t really have anything. It’s more the idea of I want to build this semi as a hobby…but we also kinda need a computer better than the Chromebook we have. I honestly don’t know where to start. Like what CPU to start with that does what we want…but then that leads to a motherboard that’s compatible. Obviously, I can just go to partpicker and it’ll show compatibility, but again, I’m brand new to this “world” and would love some feedback.

Well, it's time that I admit that my well-used laptop (nearly 10yo ThinkPad W510 - Intel i7-720QM & Quadro FX 880M) has a certain family resemblence to a Starchy Tuber. I've decided for a couple of reasons that I don't want to do the laptop thing again, but I do want something fairly compact. This would be my first scratch-build, though I have messed about in the case before, mostly back with 386/486/Pentium class stuff. Location: USA Budget: Flexible, but I'd like to see if/where I'm being inefficient. Current listing is ~$US900 all in on the electronics, not including case. I would love to get this number down to $US500ish. Timeframe: Probably a winter project. I procrastinate, and I work in the retail sector, so no time to mess with Black Friday deals. Use Case: Sort of moderately specd all-rounder, as I dabble in a lot of things. I'd like to hang on to it for a while. Light gaming. I'll be quite happy with 60 FPS on a single montior w/something like minecraft. I never play AAA titles, mostly weird open-source/indy stuff or old backlog games. Some 3d - think light blender use Ditto photo/image manipulation (Hobby level photography - Gimp and Inkscape, depending on what I'm up to) A bit of programming, possibly including compute-on-GPU - at a hobby level, so doesn't need to be the fastest at any one thing. General utility work - browsing, stream video, video-conference. Not a high bar, but I do tend to keep massive numbers of tabs open when I deep-dive into something. This is kind of where I've started: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/Vbvmv3 CPU AMD Ryzen 5 5600G 3.9 GHz 6-Core Processor (some alts in the listing) $128.00 (Intending to use the stock Wraith Stealh cooler, or if aftermarket needed, something similarly low-profile.) Motherboard ASRock B550 Phantom Gaming-ITX/ax Mini ITX AM4 Motherboard $159.99 Memory Silicon Power GAMING 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR4-3200 CL16 Memory $68.97 Storage Samsung 970 Evo Plus 500 GB M.2-2280 PCIe 3.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive $59.99 Video Card MSI Radeon RX 6600 MECH 2X 8G Radeon RX 6600 8 GB Video Card (some alts in the listing) $189.99 Power Supply SeaSonic FOCUS SGX 500 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular SFX Power Supply $100, incl shipping on Ebay -- I Picked this one because it was less expensive than lower power PSUs from brands that I recognized. Stuff I have: 2x 1440p monitors, 60 hz All major peripherals OS will be some flavor of Linux - probably Arch, so no need for product key. Stuff not on the list that I know I need: Case. This one is going to be a custom build (As in "Start with a stack of Acrylic sheet and several feet of extruded aluminum angle bar") I have the hand and tool skills to deal with that and will take details to the appropriate forum. Not part of the budget that is listed here. Power button/power light/hdd light combo harness beeper speaker $2 Case ventilation fan(s)? (May need some help here) Case connectivity "Front" panel - hopefully including a memory card reader. 15.6"-17" class portable monitor, 1080p-2k range. Somewhere between $50-$125 depending on what I find on Ebay. PCIe3x16 Riser ribbon cable ~$30 So, are any parts here really unbalanced or over/under specd compared to the rest? I'm pretty much willing to be talked into anything, brand/model wise, if you make a good case. I do need WiFi, so either on-board or the cost of the expansion card factored in. A note on form-factor: I'm intending a rather odd bespoke case, so keep that in mind when suggesting stuff. I'm willing to be talked into, say, a micro-ATX motherboard if you've got a good reason, but there are some size constraints. I'm working with a notional volume 12"-14" x 17" x 3"-3.5" (300-360mm x 430mm x 90mm) internal measurements. These numbers can flex, but I'm not expanding it to fit in a full ATX board or PSU. Note that no matter what, the GPU will be off the main board on a riser ribbon laid parallel to the main board, so no need to limit to ITX/low profile cards . I still don't think I want to try make a tripple-thick card work, though.

I want to have a motherboard which is Asus Rog Strix B450-f Gaming II with NZXT H510 Elite. It says: A USB 2.0 to USB 3.2 Gen 1 header adapter is required. A USB 3.2 Gen 1 to USB 3.2 Gen 2 header adapter is required Where can I get them?

Budget: $2500 USD Country: USA Games/programs: Really any game, but also things such as editing Other details: I already have the monitor in plan, my rig might end up being overkill "since the monitor is 1080p but it does have a very high refresh rate". I'm unsure if everything is combatable as it's my first time, it'd be nice for some reassurance, and with this build do you recommend I should buy more than the 2 case fans the CASE comes with and if so which one's? first time build First Real PC Build / Upgrade Help
Lost_Angel posted a topic in New Builds and Planning
Budget (including currency): $2,000 - $2,500 USD Country: USA Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Destiny 2, Rainbow 6 Siege, Call of Duty Cold War, Halo Infinite, normal YouTube surfing and watching some movies and shows. Will primarily be for gaming. Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): Current PC is a Pre-Built Alienware R9 with an Intel I-7 9700K with 16 GB RAM and a Nvidia RTX 2070 GPU with an AIO CPU Corsair Cooler. Current Monitor is a HP 25X with 1080p Resolution and am able to run a constant 140 FPS on Destiny 2 on High Settings in game. What I am after or trying to find out is what build would be an upgrade and within my price budget? The Alienware is ok, however, I do not like the fact that I can't really upgrade each year or when major components come out, especially due to how small of space there is inside the case. Or would it be better to go to another Pre-Built like Digital Storm or iBuyPower type of setup? I would like to go with a build so I can get the experience in working on my own machine and have the satisfaction of building it, if that makes sense. Keeping all of this in mind, the only real PC upgrade/building experience that I have is replacing RAM sticks and adding a couple of SSD's to the PC. Any help, input, or advice would be greatly appreciated. Kindest Regards, -
Budget (including currency): Min: $1000. Max: $2000. Country: USA ( West Coast ). Games, programs or workloads: World of Warcraft, Among Us, FTB modded Minecraft. Nothing super extensive but use Xbox Game Pass Ultimate so that could change. Discord for voice chat. Streaming Netflix/Hulu/Amazon Prime Video. Other details: No existing parts lists. Peripherals: Possibly a monitor upgrade from the Lenovo I currently use. What you're upgrading from: Currently playing on a 15" Surface Book 2 which is having GPU issues. When you're going to buy: Late Winter/Spring 2021 What resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc: Better than a potato - smooth enough but no need to be top of the market. This is going to be my first build. I have folks who are going to help me put it all together but I am so lost at where to start! This is a whole new language to me so any ideas/pointers would be rad. Thanks!

Doing my first build, I'm wondering if the order in which you install the RAM into the DIMM slots matters? Not the configuration, my motherboard goes slot 2 and 4 and then 1 and 3, which I'm sure of, but the actual order that you install them in before turning on the computer. So if I did slot 4 and then slot 2 with two paired sticks of RAM, would that affect anything? My motherboard's manual says to install slot 2 first, but I think that might be if you're only using one stick.

Hi my name is <removed by staff> and from singapore, I'm working on my plans for my first pc. My room is pretty small since it's a expanded store-room in a 3 room flat. I tried getting help from hardwarezone but got no reply, and since I'm watching LTT vids to learn building my system i thought I could find some help here. My budget is around sg$1400/us$1100, im hoping use a sg13 or CM H100 so it wouldn't take up too much of my space. I plan to use the system for editing my baking videos and playing some games (smite, rocket league, LOL, Fortnight and gtav.) and schoolwork. Thanks for the help and suggestions

1. Budget & Location for this build i have a max budget of US$1200 and i am located in Texas near a micro center if that helps 2. Aim primary purpose will be for School and running solid works and inventor with complex assembles ,blender, multiple containers and VMs. would would also like to be able to play space engineers, ksp, Gta V, and cyberpunk when it comes out. would prefer to play at 1080. Needs to have WiFi capability ideally i would like to prioritize science and i don't care for rgb just prefer coordination of colors 3. Monitors currently running two 1080p monitors and will eventually get a third most likely at 1440p 4. Peripherals if it can fit in the budget without sacrificing performance a 1440p monitor else no peripherals are needed and already have a copy of window 10 5. Why are you upgrading? upgrading because currently running off of a 2in1 laptop that sounds as if its going to take off when running solid works and struggles to render objects is also slow to run small coding projects and vms

What's a good cheap CPU cooler? What's the best budget RAM? What's the best budget SSD storage? any recommended peripherals? How would I figure out what motherboard is compatible with which CPUs (whoops that was originally a typo)? Budget: less than $1000 CAD For video editing and gaming

I want a little advice about my system. I have chosen the following parts and as you can see I haven't chosen a case neither the cooling system. The reason is that I want to make it as silent and as cool as I can. As for the budget, I'd like to spend something between 100-150 and for the cooling system I'd like to spend maximum 60% of the case's budget. Do you have any suggestions for a silent PC case and cooling system? Parts picked

Hi y'all, With third-gen ryzen out, I feel like this is the perfect time to get building, but I'm in-between some part choices. I'm gonna use the computer for gaming and some light photo and video editing. my budget is less than $1200. The Parts I have so far/need help with are (Things with slashes are things I need help deciding but I'll take any criticism) : Ryzen 5 3600/Ryzen 7 3700x Noctua U14S x570/x470 AsusTuf Wifi / x570/x470 Asus Prime Pro 16gb Sniper X 3600 970 Evo Plus 500gb and maybe add an 860 Evo 1tb drive later on Gtx 1660 ti / Rtx 2060 / Rx 5700 I'm using an old mac pro case from 2005 cuz I want my pc in a mac lol 550w G3 PSU / 650w G3 PSU Please help I'm lost. and I'm using a 1080p monitor and trying to get at least 60 fps on most games, like borderlands, witcher 3. GTA 5. stuff like that. Thanks!

1. Budget & Location Nothing more then 1.5k Canadian. Canadia. 2. Aim Gaming, video editing, and digital 2D drawing. The most strenuous game I will most likely be playing BDO, I'd be fine with 75 up to 100 FPS at high setting at 1080p. 3. Monitors Current monitor is Asus vg245h, 75hz, 1080p, I'm looking to get more monitors but not any time soon. 4. Peripherals None necessary for purchase. 5. Why are you upgrading? The laptop I'm currently using has slowed down significantly and the performance of the placeholder pre-built desktop is disappointing, yes I know I could simply upgrade the pre-built I simply don't want to. 6. Additional A few questions, does 3200 ddr4 out of the box work on x470? or do I need to fiddle with the BIOS? and does anyone have or has used PSU's from PC Power & Cooling? im very interested in getting their Silencer Mk III series of PSU's for ascetics. I don't plan to OC but it is an option. Lastly this is my current build on pcpartpicker. PCPartPicker Part List First time building a PC. I'd love it if you could look over my parts and see if I'm overlooking anything. Purpose: I'm going to start my Masters in Engineering next year and I wanted to beef up my computer. While gaming is appreciated, I'm looking for something powerful first and gaming second, which is why my GPU is likely to be my bottleneck. Looking to spend somewhere in the realm of $1000. CPU: I plan to overclock the Ryzen 5 2600. I also wanted a water cooler mostly for the flex so that might be slightly mismatched. ¯\(ツ)/¯ GPU: Question, which would be better, a $200 ($180 w/ Google Express) XFX AMD Radeon RX 590 Fatboy OC+ or a $210 Sapphire AMD Radeon Nitro+ RX 580. I have heard very great things about the Sapphire Nitro RX 580 but I'm not sure if the RX 590 deal from today is a better one. macbook pro died. Building first video editing pc.
aclebre posted a topic in New Builds and Planning
Hello everyone, First time posting and new to the pc world. I've been using an old 2011 macbook pro 17in laptop to editing videos for over 6 years. Sadly, like most 2011 macbook pros, the graphics chip died...again. So with the crazy high prices for new models I've decided to look into the pc building world. After some months watching a whole bunch of videos on youtube, I think I have a starting point for a build, but could really use some feed back to see if I'm missing something. Following the format for this thread heres what I got. 1. Budget & Location Around $1500 US. I'm planning to order the parts one Cyber Monday here in the States to get some killer deals to save some money for a monitor or for better components. 2. Aim Video Editing is the main purpose. I'm going to be start regularly posting videos on youtube so it's going to be a work horse. I use many of the Adobe CC programs like Premiere, Audition, Lightroom, Photoshop, and some others. Maybe some light gaming but it's not a need. 3. Monitors Right now I could use my 4K tv to hold me over for now. I've been looking into the Dell - P2715Q 27.0" has been getting good reviews from other content creators. 4. Peripherals No idea yet. Planning to use some spare ones I got lying around until I find ones I like. I'm open to suggestions 5. Why are you upgrading? Walking away from the Apple tree. I loved my 17in macbook pro but the world, and Apple, has changed quite a bit. Here's what I'm thinking so far. Intro: Hello there! I've been wanting to build my own PC for a while now, but also wanted to make sure it's high-end and done right. I've been watching LTT's youtube channel and read some stuff here and there, swapped computer parts and am pretty handy, but have never really built a PC from the ground-up and wanted to consult you guys before i go into it. Goal: I'm trying to build a PC that will last me for a while and will not be outdated in like 2 years. It will primarily be used for coding, some image editing and games. None of those will be in like heavy use. I'm not trying to get the best FPS from the latest titles, nor i'm going to render heavy 3D models or anything of the sort. With all that said i want my PC to be capable of tackling heavier tasks every now and then if needed, while simultaneously looks somewhat decent. Budget: I haven't set myself a specific budget yet, as i'm ready to spend a buck more, but also trying to stay away from anything over $5k USD. I'm not that into it lol. What i need help with: I'm trying to get an opinion from real-world use on the parts that i'm getting. For example if it's worth spending the extra buck for 1080ti over 1080 or should i go next gen and get 2080/2080ti. Best places to purchase said parts. Advises on the build itself: what should i be careful for, how should i prepare, what should and shouldn't be done. Example: i've never had experience with water cooling. Does it come pre-assembled, what kind of liquid do i use, how do i make sure to prevent liquid damage etc. etc. Selected parts list: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/19Njm0iKosUcabEhzqJyRMR2fF2q2xnf-YOWwzU9c9Ts/edit?usp=sharing Thank you in advance! EDIT: Forgot to mention i already have a monitor: Acer CZ380CQK 37.5" WQHD+ 75Hz Peripherals are not that important i can figure that out on my own

Hi all, Looking to invest and build a a gaming PC. Nothing too fancy but I don't plan on changing / upgrading any part of it for 3-5 years?. Daily use will be limited, but on evenings I want to be gaming - 1440p preferable and not bothered about 4k. Mainly i play sim games ( HOI4, CIV, Total Wars, Train sims and also open world style GTA 5 / Red Dead Redemption) Originally i was going a 'budget' build (hence ryzen) but once the total got close to a £1000 i thought i'm happy to spend that little bit more - get the tempered glass case and admire it every time i see it. If i'm paying good money i want to see it in all its glory. ( plus a few LED's) PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant CPU: AMD - Ryzen 5 2600 3.4GHz 6-Core Processor ($165.99 @ Amazon) Motherboard: Gigabyte - X470 AORUS ULTRA GAMING ATX AM4 Motherboard ($109.99 @ Newegg) Memory: Corsair - Vengeance RGB Pro 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-2666 Memory ($149.99 @ Newegg) Storage: Samsung - 970 Evo 250GB M.2-2280 Solid State Drive ($87.99 @ Amazon) Video Card: Gigabyte - GeForce GTX 1080 8GB WINDFORCE OC 8G Video Card ($439.99 @ Newegg) Case: Phanteks - ECLIPSE P400 TEMPERED GLASS ATX Mid Tower Case ($79.99 @ Amazon) Power Supply: be quiet! - Pure Power 10 500W 80+ Silver Certified ATX Power Supply ($106.12 @ Amazon) Wireless Network Adapter: Asus - PCE-AC56 PCI-Express x1 802.11a/b/g/n/ac Wi-Fi Adapter ($59.97 @ Amazon) Total: $1200.03 Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available Generated by PCPartPicker 2018-10-06 15:11 EDT-0400 Prices i know aren't the best and i plan on picking them up over the next 4 months and building it early next year. This should allow me to buy on any deals ( black friday / xmas / new releases ) I have old peripherals and don't need to buy new ones until i know my setup better in my new house. (desk sizes / placing etc) Not fixed on any parts in particular so i'f you can advise any substitutions let me know below. Plan is to boot and use the Samsung M.2 as my primary with the OS and general programs, my game library isn't massive so i'll pickup a 500gb SSD card. GPU i went from 1070 then for ~£50 more up to 1070 ti then for ~£50 more up to the 1080 which i think is worth investing in to future proof? Just a few questions - I'm not planning to overclock so will stock wraith cooler be sufficient or do i need bigger? Will have at least 2 fans at the front and 1 at the back, or up to 3 at the front and 2 at back/top. Not looking to water cool. Can i use the M.2 stick as a boot / will i be getting the best performance from it? Or am i wasting money and a SSD be no loss? I know the wireless adapter is a tad OTT but is it worth getting it built into the motherboard? I know the 16GB ram is OTT and will probably drop to 2x4GB and that still leaves room for another set of 2x4GB. This was an end game plan. Will power be an issue? i went for bequiet as i want this PC on top of the desk. Any help appreciated.

Hey everyone! Long time viewer of the ltt channel first time forum poster, well I am finally building my very first PC after having used an PC that my dad had handed down to me, So now I am planning on making a brand new computer and giving my current computer to my little brother. I am planning on reusing the GTX 1050ti that I have in my current PC in the new build, here's the PC part picker link: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/sCTdr6 My budget is roughly $700 USD however I can stretch it to $750 USD max for a little more performance. I am located in Florida, United States. My aim for this computer is really for some 1080p gaming and for school as I'm currently in school for programming and having a computer that can run some code without dying would be really nice. Along with some HD video watching and web browsing. The type of gaming would be for games such as League of Legends and some Civilization 5 but I'd like to eventually get into some triple AAA gaming. I am currently using a single 32" 1080p 60htz Samsung TV and don't particularly plan on moving towards more monitors and plan to use it with the new PC as well. I already bought new peripherals so I do not particularly need a new Keyboard and Mouse. I don't think I'll need a new OS as I'll be keeping the HDD from my current PC and run it off of there if I can't figure out to move the OS to the SSD. I am upgrading as my current PC is quite limited by the motherboard as it's at least 10 years old and I think it's time to upgrade as it's pretty outdated and it's pretty rough to do much in and it really hurts to be such an enthusiast and have something from the stone ages at home but I finally have a job that allows me to follow my enthusiast passion any advice would be greatly appreciated!

motherboard 8+4 pin eps connector required?
beepboop6 posted a topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
Hello, planning my first PC build at the moment. Looking to get this motherboard: https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/X470-AORUS-GAMING-7-WIFI-rev-10#kf . Noticed it has both a 4 pin and an 8 pin ecs connector on it. Are both of these required to be plugged in and if so is there a specific keyword to look for when searching for a Psu to ensure it has a second port for the second cable
