Everytime I try to open some software and install anything, the Virus and threat protection system starts acting weird and blocks me. I can't install rockstar launcher because of this issue. This started from the day I suddenly found Norton Security app in my list of programmes. I uninstalled it immediately because I had never installed it. And this uninstallation process was really weird too. After uninstalled, it immediately restarted PC and upon restarting, it shows a really weird looking screen. Will post here in comments. And after restart, I went into windows defender settings and improved the settings and might have accidentally added some folders into the protected list to prevent editing by someone else. It has been now 2-4 weeks since then and now I have many error popping up saying that found and all. It's blocking my RGB fusion software. I don't care about it, then it's blocking Adobe Premiere pro, but still opens it. Now I'm trying to install rockstar launcher, completely blocking it. I can't find this settings, please guide me.

So I don't know when this happened but I can't open Windows Security. Whenever I try it kinda freezes up, the pc itself is fine, I can go to youtube and stuff after I clicked it, but Windows Security won't open at all.

So I got this new wifi gateway a day ago and all of my devices seem to work well with it except for my PC. It's connected to the router but it has no internet access and when I run the network diagnostics I get the image you see below. How do resolve my issue?

Hi, super n00b question, I have the yearly subscription to PIA, and I have their (Windows) client installed, I can auto-connect without any problems, but I have to disable it every time I launch a game to avoid lagging or ending up on different countries' servers. and while I'm off the vpn I can't keep browsing on other screens without using my ISP connection of course. Sadly I can't change my ISP modem to one with VPN capabilities (can't even change the DNS on this pos) and before I go out and buy a DD-WRT router (and find a way to make it work with the ISP modem which needs to be the gateway anyway) I was wonderting what's your best choice of software to make some sort of firewall filtering, allowing gaming ports to go directly through the network, while diverting HTTP/HTTPS and other traffic on the VPN tunnel from PIA, or if there's an easier solution to this. I've read it might work creating 2 virtual Network interfaces but when I had a virtual NIC from a previous VM thinkering it caused so many problems I probably messed up something. or maybe I'm approaching this problem from the wrong angle? thanks

I have received a request from a friend on how to best set up a VPN in order to access an office NAS while on the move. In order to avoid exposing the internal network to the external environment, I thought they would need a router/firewall that would manage VPN access and prevent the unauthorized access to the internal network. However, here's the catch - none of them are really competent in system or network administration nor do they have access to anyone that would. Hence the question: what would be the best router/firewall I could recommend them that would not require any management to stay up to date and would enable a VPN access?

Hello all. I'm looking for firewall software recommendations, and where better to ask but LTT forums? I'm running windows 10 64 and haven't installed a firewall and have had windows defender firewall disabled since I installed windows a while ago. However now I'm in need of a way to disable certain programs from accessing my network/internet and really that's the only feature I care about. I used to rock ZoneAlarm but I feel it's gotten too bloated nowadays and I'm looking for a more lightweight firewall that isn't going to be trying to self-monitor my connections or show me ads to upgrade to the full version and things like that. Any suggestions are appreciated. thanks!

I have been using the 1.0 version of Glasswire for a while to avoid losing the firewall access in 2.0. Is there any way to block the IP for the Glasswire Update service through the host file? If not are any good free alternatives? They all seem like shit compared to Glasswire.

I wonder if someone can help me with a problem with RealVNC Server Please. I reciently had an update for RealVNC Server and since this update i cannot connect to any pcs on my network what so ever and theres 3 systems it should be able to connect to, 2 pcs and a laptop. The error i get is 'Timed out waiting for a responce from the computer'. Ive tried uninstalling and reinstalling, tried deleting and reputting the firewall rules in place which is on Kaspersky Internet Security and still i cannot connect. Anyone help?

Hey guys, just wanted to dabble my feet in a little home networking project and was wondering if it was possible with the modem my ISP has provided? I have a spare machine that is way to overpowered (Intel Xeon with 8gb of memory) but it's just sitting around and is asking for attention! So I just bought a standard gigabit pci nic today and was hoping to install PFSense and let this machine do all the work, OpevVPN, firewall, portforwarding, DHPC the works. What I was wondering, the modem/router my ISP has provided me might be a little strict? Or I'm a noob. There's an option to change it to "modem only" mode, what exactly does that mean? It says it only "disables Wifi interface", says nothing about bridging which I would rather. And also an option to disable the firewall and disable the DHCP service. Do I need to be able to pass through my public WAN address to get the full benefits of PFSense? Or if my "modem" was assigned an address of lets say 192.168.100.1, could I configure that as my WAN address in PFS? Apologies if I sound like an idiot, any help appreciated!

Does anyone know how to bypass a "fing box" my parents have set one up and it prevents me from connecting to wifi on any of my devices. I can't even connect my pc to the internet and it is hard wired. Can anyone help?

So I have a pfsense transparent firewall, between my cisco router and first switch both the switch and router interfaces facing the pfsense are trunk ports: CISCO ROUTER - 10.10.1.253 ↓ PFSENSE - OPT1 BRIDGE (lan-wan) - 10.10.1.252 ↓ CISCO CORE SWITCH - 10.10.1.250 But I have multiple vlans on the network, currently the setup works if the client computer/device is on vlan 1 (native). But all other vlans cannot get past the pfsense box and onto the internet. How do I setup the pfsense to allow all my vlans through. Like a trunk port My vlans are 1 - 10.1.1.0/24 10 - 10.1.10.0/24 20 - 10.1.20.0/24 30 - 10.1.30.0/24 100 - 10.1.100.0/24 Please can someone help

So I'm at a loss for what I'm doing wrong here. If I set plex to automatically configure a port it successfully establishes a connection for about an hour and then magically looses it so I decided to manually set up a port..... with no luck I might add. Do I need to set up a Dynamic DNS? I'll include some screenshots. Server has a static IP also

Hi! Sorry if this is the wrong section for this post, I don't quite know where it should be. I'm a co-owner of a small startup and we maintain a small office. With that being said, our budget is limited so we've been making do with a barebones network setup and we've had a lot of issues but we've soldiered on. To give you an idea, our current setup is as follows: 1 ISP-issued modem+router-switch+AP (you know that combo box?). Like I said--barebones and pathetic. Now that we have some wiggle room, we've decided to try sorting out our networking solution. We're planning to gently expand over the coming months, and we think it's high time we made sure we were using a slightly more professional setup. However, enterprise solutions are still way beyond our budget, I think. And getting a networking professional to do the planning, config, and physical wiring is also outside of our budget. So it's fallen on me to do everything. I have some rudimentary knowledge on networking (some CISCO courses back in 2004-2005), and am a system builder. Although I'm sure my knowledge is miniscule compared to those who are actually qualified, I'm willing to learn and put in the hours. And we have interns who can help me with the actual wiring (and the office isn't that big). So here's our setup: We currently have a single DSL line. I have some Cat6 or Cat5e stowed away somewhere. No shortage of those. For Phase 1 (this 2018), we have: 6 desktops connected via Ethernet Around 15~20 devices connected via WiFi, including 1 wireless printer and a chromecast For Phase 2 (probably early next year, so the network I'm planning should be able to accommodate these): Addition of 10 more desktops connected via Ethernet Around 20 more devices connected via WiFi A NAS that all devices can access (with password) And eventually perhaps a Load Balancer so we can integrate our current DSL and the Fiber line we're planning to get soon. I plan to eventually setup a NAS, but that's a secondary concern. For now, I just need all the devices to be able to access the internet and maybe print. I was originally planning to just buy a wireless router to attach to our modem and have everything connected to that, but that's no longer viable. So I was thinking of buying a router, 21-port Switch, and a WAP (or 2). But after checking out most examples of the web, they all strongly recommend having a firewall between my modem and my router. Hardware Firewalls are exorbitantly expensive. So I did more research and found pfSense. This seems ideal, so I'm looking for some feedback. I could easily build a system from spare or 2nd-hand parts that we can use as our router+firewall if this it the case, although I'm not sure at what point it becomes more cost-effective to buy a ready-made router and/or firewall from TP-Link rather than try to DIY it using a PC (given that I'll need to spend cash on lots of RAM, I believe?) Finally, I've heard about MESH. I can't quite wrap my head around this, and if I should learn and implement this topology, instead. FYI: We're from Manila, Philippines. So availability of certain hardware is a concern (And thus why I'm thinking of just going the DIY PC route). Ebay and Craigslist aren't that helpful, but we do have our own online marketplaces for hardware.

So I've just built my first PC after spending two years with a terrible laptop. I would always leave the laptop at home (unless I specifically needed it) running FileZilla for when I might need to get some files. It has worked very well. Now that I've got a new PC I've reinstalled FileZilla (using xampp) and set it up (users, SSL, etc.). The problem is that I can't connect to it from any other PC inside or outside my network. I've opened port 21 in firewall, and I use the free version of Avast, so that doesn't have a firewall. If I connect to it from the PC it's running on nothing strange happens, but when I try to connect to it from another PC I can't see anything on either the client or in the server logs regarding a connection. Has anybody got an idea what else might be blocking the port from outside access? By the way, I know it's an issue with the port, because apache (also installed using xampp) works like it should.

Okay, so this is really random. I booted up my machine and AMD Radeon settings app just asked for a firewall access which is weird cause it already had access to the Internet. I also checked that it was the legitimate app and not some malware trying to masquerade as the original app. But amidst the whole Meltdown and specter vulnerabilities, there is a bit of concern when apps behave weirdly... Should I be worried? what was the windows patch version that fixed these vulnerabilities?

VPN: 143VPN, any incoming traffic on my desired Server & Port is redirected to me. OS: Windows 10 // Firewall disabled for debugging I was wondering if anyone could help me, as I'm quite stumped on why my setup isn't working. Basically I just want a personal server for me and my bf to play on together, but I don't have access to my router to enable port forwarding. Okay, no big deal, I've had this issue in the past -- i can just use 143vpn; except it doesn't seem to working with rust (externally). Locally, I can connect to the server fine from multiple computers. It seems like Rust isn't "punching out" or listening for incoming requests on 28015, see attached media for listen.exe example, which shows the port's are indeed open. While the rust server is running http://canyouseeme.org/ can see a service running on 28016, but not 28015. Rust clients aren't able to connect to 28016. Sorry if this is difficult to understand, or the wrong place to ask. Any help is appreciated.

I did a fresh install of Windows 10. I use that machine as a home server(mainly for plex). Since my internet is metered and has pretty low data cap, I used registry editor to set my ethernet connection as metered. Ever since I did that, I have been facing a problem wherein windows firewall exceptions reset every time the computer reboots. I have to manually add firewall exceptions for VNC, Plex among others. Is there a way to solve this? I just don't want Windows to automatically download updates as it burns through the data.

I have been thinking witch one is better choice to home, work etc...? What is a main difference between pfSence and ex. Cisco Routers? Except you can run pfSence in your old PC and you don't need to buy expensive hardware. Is pfSense safe? I apologize my poor english. - nneeooww

*link removed* My school uses Lightspeed Rocket Firewall. I created my website in like 5 minutes and put it back up one night. The next day I go to school and I go to my website and it's blocked. My website was probably blocked because it has a .TK domain but it's like 29 lines of HTML, it is completely safe and appropriate.

So here is the story. I am taking a class called Networking Infrastructure. For my final project I chose to test the application of low cost computers in a networking environment using low cost business class machines and turning them into routers and firewalls. The computer that I am going to turn into the router and firewall is a Dell Optiplex 990 with a i5 2400 processor, 8gb RAM, and an extra gigabit ethernet card that I added. I know there are distros out there to turn it into a router or firewall, so that is not the question. The question is to see how it does with throughput. Ideally I would like to clock and record the time that it takes to transfer a 10gb file from one machine to another. As far as the setup I have the 990 that will be the firewall and router. On the outsides I have a Dell 9010 that I use as my main machine (not a gamer or video editor), I can throw whatever OS on the SSD that is needed for said project. A buddy also let me use his micro computer that has a gigabit ethernet port. So here is the basic questions, What OS shout I put on the outside machines? What would be the best metering method? What is the best way to test the functionality of the firewall?

Hi, I'm trying to follow this guide: https://support.hidemyass.com/hc/en-us/articles/202723616-IP-Binding-via-Windows-Firewall-block-non-VPN-traffic It's a guide to block a certain app from internet access when the VPN is not working. The guide seems fairly easy, but the first step is to set the actually internet connection as Home and the VPN as Work. My first problem is that I can't change the type of network for the actual internet connection (the name of the network is not clickable, see attached photo). The second problem is that once I connect to the VPN server via its proprietary app, it doesn't appear as a connection in and of itself on the Network and Sharing Center, so I can't change its type either. I should note that the guide is based on Windows 7. I couldn't not find a similar guide for Windows 8 or 10. Does anyone know how to fix this? Thanks.
