So I have one terabyte of storage on my computer, and for a short while now, windows (10) has been saying that I am running low on disk space. I noticed that didn't seem right. After some digging around I found that my computer has 441GB's of temporary files. I'm not really sure what temporary files are and what this means, and I was wondering if it would cause problems if I were to delete them?

Is there a way to have windows keep a folder loaded and sorted to how I have it set? I have a large images folder with various file names that I've downloaded from the interwebs, over 7.7k images not put in other folders. I have it set to "sort by" "date, descending" and "group by" is left unchecked. The problem is that when I first open the folder either after a restart or not accesing that folder in a while, it has to re-sort it. What I mean is that when I open it, everything is sorted by name and then it starts sorting it by date like how it's set to. That would be fine but it takes over 3 and a half minutes to finish sorting. Yes, I timed it.

Can you configure raid 5 and keep files currently on one of the drives so that the second disk inserted just mirrors the current disk with files or is this not possible and both disks have to be empty when configuring a raid?

Hi, Recently, I have attempted to open audio files (such as .wav and .mp3) and double clicking them says "Class not registered". The only way I can open them is by right clicking and selecting "open with". How do I resolve this? Thanks

Backstory & Problem I've had my PC for 3-4 months now, and it's worked perfectly. I've played all my favorite games on it, and I can't wait to upgrade it in the near future. Recently, I decided to play War Thunder. Upon completing the download, the game could not install correctly. It read "DISK WRITE ERROR." Upon further research, I found others had this error, and fixed it by unchecking the 'Read-only' box under the Steam(C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam) folder properties. Upon unchecking the 'Read-only' box, no error messages appeared, and it loaded all the files inside the folder perfectly normally. To my surprise, War Thunder still couldn't install and still said "DISK WRITE ERROR." I returned to the properties of the folder, only to find it had switched back to 'Read-only' on its own. Dafuq?! Upon many more attempts, I am still unable to fix the issue. Things I've Tried - attrib -r +s C:\Steam (Does nothing) - Unchecking 'Read-only' box (Does nothing) - Ran Malwarebytes & Avira scans, removed anything detected, and tried again. (Didn't fix my problem) - Removed "CREATOR OWNER" user from the Steam folder permissions, and gave full access to every other user on the list. (Some check marks are grayed out and others are black, does that mean anything?) - Moved the Steam folder directly to the C:\ drive (Didn't fix my problem) System Specs PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant CPU: AMD FX-6300 3.5GHz 6-Core Processor (Purchased For $98.95) Motherboard: ASRock 980DE3/U3S3 ATX AM3+ Motherboard (Purchased For $63.98) Memory: Mushkin ECO2 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 Memory (Purchased For $56.99) Storage: PNY CS1111 240GB 2.5" Solid State Drive (Purchased For $59.00) Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 750 Ti 2GB Superclocked Video Card (Purchased For $119.99) Case: Phanteks Enthoo Pro ATX Full Tower Case (Purchased For $90.98) Power Supply: EVGA SuperNOVA GS 550W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply (Purchased For $79.99) Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 Home Full - USB 32/64-bit (Purchased For $10.00) Wireless Network Adapter: TP-Link TL-WN881ND PCI-Express x1 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi Adapter (Purchased For $18.79) Monitor: Samsung S24D360HL 23.6" 60Hz Monitor (Purchased For $159.99) Keyboard: EagleTec K005 / KS03 Wired Gaming Keyboard w/Optical Mouse (Purchased For $25.99) Other: Panasonic ErgoFit Earbuds (Purchased For $9.99) Other: Amazon Basic USB Speakers (A100) (Purchased For $13.99) Total: $808.63 Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available Generated by PCPartPicker 2016-07-28 21:20 EDT-0400

My anti-virus is Quick Heal Internet Security 16.00 64-bit. Recently, it has quarantined 4 files, but I'm not able to remove them, as they were originally located in a DVD drive, which I dumped... Here's the error when I press the button which when pressed, deletes all the files in the Quarantine.

Hey guys. I have a Windows 8.1 OS and I have this problem with the music folder. I am trying to rename this file because it has a lower case and it wont change. The problem is only within the music folder because I tried moving it out of the folder, changing the name and then putting it back in but it goes back to its original state. Any ideas?

Hello some what of an IT, guy but I'm still learning a lot. My friend was changing files directory on desktop and set the default for the documents folder to his (D:) drive. Using the method Luke showed in this video, After trying to change it to a different folder we are hit with a "Access denied". After changing permissions to allow for everything, still the same results. Are we doing something wrong, if someone could let know how to remedy this problem that would be helpful.

Hello! ^^ I need to write a simple code to copy files from one folder to another. Sounds simple, huh? However I don't know how to open folders without writing the exact path For example I have such folers -MainFolder -123ab -messages -Files I need -logs -123cd -messages -Files I need -logs -246bgs4 -messages -Files I need -logs I think you got it) So i need to run my .exe from the MainFolder and copy all files from messages BUT I don't know, how to open folder 123ab and such, because there are hundreds of them and there will be more and every has its unique name. How do I open folders if I don't know their name? Hope you understood me)

Okay so my friend gave me his Macbook to repair, and I need to take the files from his HDD and transfer them over to my Windows PC temporarily. I'm using a program called MacDrive 10 to open the HDD but when I attempt to copy over files to my PC I'm greeted with these errors; And it will only copy over a small percentage of folders to my PC with nothing in them. Does anyone know why this is and if so how I can fix it? Thanks!

Hi I built my first gaming PC at Christmas and used an SSD as the OS drive, but as needed normal storage as well and didn't have 1 HDD with a lot of space, I decided to just use 3 in a spanned volume adding up to a total storage of 963 GB. They have been working fine until the last 2 weeks, every time I go to play a game it crashes and when I validate the files in steam some of them appear to have magically disappeared. I mean i wouldn't of thought so but is this normal for spanned disks, because I will get a single 2 TB HDD soon but I was just wondering if they are dying or something as i don't really want to loose about 850 GB of games. Thanks.

I have finally decided to organise all of my photos and videos. I currently have a 2TB external hard drive and it is dedicated to footage storage. Currently, I have a massive list of randomly named folders with random junk inside. I really need a file system for photos and videos so that they are organised and I can find anything when I want to. Does anyone have a solid, working files ystem that I could use?

Hi all, dumb question but I cant seem to find an answer. Say I have an modem that does both 2.4ghz and 5ghz. I have a pc connected through Ethernet to router, then wireless to a 5ghz pc and a 2.4ghz ps3. I have media files on pc. Will it matter if i connect via 2.4ghz or 5ghz to access the files as from what i have seen it creates 2 separate networks. Im not sure how to word this correctly without it sounding jumbled but I hope someone can help. Thanks peeps

So I built my very first pc ever a few months ago and at the time I didn't have enough money to purchase an HDD and an SSD so I just got a 250gb SSD with plans to purchase an HDD when I got the money. Well that time came and I finally got a 3tb HDD for mass storage. The issue I am having is with file allocation. Hardware I love and kinda understand, software cause me aggravation. So what i want to do is move everything from my SSD to my HDD except for games and boot, BUT I want to know if I can still have everything show up under "This PC" instead of having to search for everything through my HDD. In addition can I just make it so everything saves to the HDD? Not fantastic at software like i said so any help at all would be absolutely fantastic. And if I am just missing simple easy and wonderful solutions, please be gentle.

Hey LTT Forum members. I'm a college student, and I'm frequently pulling a lot of files from my other laptop that I connect to at home in Las Vegas (I'm in AZ for college). Is there any relatively quick way for me to transfer large files from my computer in Las Vegas to my desktop in AZ? Right now I have to upload to Mega.co.nz or Google Drive and then download again on my desktop here. Or I'm using Justbeamit.com. Thanks in advance

Hi to all, I'm a long time LTT fan, but this is my first topic here, so sorry for any mistakes. Basically what happened: my girlfriend has a laptop (Acer, few years old) and Windows suddenly decided to automatically update from Win 7 to Win 10. She never wanted to upgrade, but it happened, so screw it. The update went smooth, everything seemed fine after. Except the desktop wasn't the same. Folders and program shortcuts were not there anymore. There was nothing in the "My Documents" and "My Photos" folders in explorer. Shortly after we found all the files in /Users folder and moved them to the empty "My Documents/My Photos", so she could access it faster. It seemed like at this point that Windows had created a new (temporary?) default account when it upgraded, that's why nothing was there. Everything seemed normal now... until the first restart. Windows wasn't done upgrading. After the system booted up, the desktop was normal again (as it was in Win 7), all shortcuts were where they should have been the first time. The only problem - all the previously moved files were GONE!! No documents or photos anywhere. Naturally I tried data recovery with EaseUS Data Recovery program. I knew there were at least about 15-20GB of files that have gone missing. Found nothing. Soooo... files were not deleted? Okay, I ran WinDirStat, to see what files were on the PC. Turns out that the C:\Windows folder takes up 30% of the PC (40GB). Half of that is in the "winsxs" folder. Is this even normal? Most of the files are small sized - just like photos - but they are mostly .dll. Is it possible that those .dll files are the lost files? And how to get them back? Has anyone had a similar problem? I hope you guys can help me out, because I'm running out of ideas. Also took it to a Tech store, they couldn't do anything. Please help, I'd really like the files back TL;DR: win7 upgraded to win10, files went missing, loads of (probably) new .dll files created in C:\Windows folder while upgrading, need files back, please help

I´ve recently built a new pc and wanted to copy all my files from my old hdd to my new one, but it didn´t work. The problem is that I copied all my photos, music and videos/films, also my word-documents and my pdf-documents. (right click---copy, open folder in the new hdd and right click----paste). I can open any photo, music or video from my NEW hdd. However, when I try to open any word-document or pdf-document from my NEW hdd it says that I don´t have "access privileges". How can I solve this so I can open ANY file in my new pc??

Recently while working on an HP Entertainment series laptop (or desktop replacement, rather) I was to keep the Windows 7 upgrade that had overwritten the original Vista, while also putting Vista back (that’s what the owner wanted…) into a separate partition. My foolish idea was to just run the recovery partition to bring Vista back and expected it to ask me what partition I wanted to recovery to (I already set up a new partition for Vista alongside the current 7). It did not ask me and instead went straight into recovering over the original partition and removing the Windows 7 Install as well as the entire partition. The moment it started I shut the machine down as I knew what it was about to do. Booted back up to find the partition “wiped” or essentially marked as empty. However, when I use Recuva I cannot see the User folders from the 7 Install and EaseUS also does not seem to find them. I was wondering if anyone here has any idea of how I can at least recover the User folder from the Windows 7 Install pre-wipe. These programs find lots of data from the drive but not in a manner that I can parse and see what it is; It gives it to me all jumbled and filled with versions and overwrites. Also, if anyone knows how to recover the partition entirely, that would be greatly appreciated. Ask questions if you have them. Thank you!
