Hey everyone, I've just installed Steam on my XPS 15 9560 and am attempting to download some games. Every game results in this problem - stuck on 'creating local game files.' I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the application, clearing the download cache, installing on a separate partition (both the steam application and the library), scanning the disk for issues and running as admin, including the Steam install. Upon trying to cancel the installation, Steam completely stops responding and crashes. Any help would be much appreciated.

So my grandpa passed away and I got the lovely task of securing all important files of his computer, laptops, external HDD and Nas. So I've managed to get all files that could be of importance to one place on my personal PC drive, but the way the drives (from my grandpa) were organised I assume that a lot of files will be the same, and because we're talking about multiple terrabytes of storage space used, it is impossible for me to personally go and compare everything. So I was wondering if there would be any program the could do it for me... If you want specs, I can give you those, but I'm too lazy to write them down if it might not be needed. Already thanks in advance

A friend of mine is worried that her old phone's virus will get carried over to her new phone if she transfers the files. Is this something that can happen on mobile phones? And is it best to transfer the files using a USB and adapter or SD card or via a cloud storage solution like Google Drive or Mega? Is there an online cloud storage app that checks files for viruses as they upload/download?

I use teracopy, it's popular but honestly I'm not impressed, had stability problems with it on my old Windows 7 PC, then again when I switched to Windows 10 and now on my new Windows 10 PC it still isn't as stable as I'd like it to be. I've googled stuff and looked at articles on the web but a lot of the software they mention seems to be out of development or the developer website looks unprofessional then that already puts me off the software. Heck I saw the word 'recored' on the easersoft website...and some list support for up to Windows 8 hence out of development as I said. I like that teracopy is a simple replacement for default Windows copy so I'd really like something like that with a simple interface that gives you more control too cuz some of the stuff I've seen on the web have terrible chunky interfaces that leave a lot to be desired.

Hi All, Recently I was doing some video recording of a live event. I decided to do live editing while streaming and recording. Unfortunately an audio driver bugged out when I unplugged some head phones (Yay Windows 10) and caused my PC to reboot. I was using Wirecast when this happened and when the crash happened the file it was recording to became corrupted. Is there any at home way to fix this? If not any recommendations for a company that does this?

We have a NAS at home to manage all of our files, downloading, remote access etc etc However apart from the native web interface file, trying to manage files is a real pain in macOS finder! For the most part, I would run up Parallels Desktop and manage the files in Windows explorer (thats how crap Finder is) That is until I discovered Forklift! https://www.binarynights.com https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/forklift-file-manager-and-ftp-sftp-webdav-amazon-s3-client/id412448059?mt=12 Am currently using the free version 2 from the appstore and am blown away by the sheer speed and convenience over finder! Back to the reason for the post.... what file management tools do you guyz n girlz use in macOS?

Simply put, my old HDD was dying. I got a new hard drive and transferred all the files over to it. Problem is, there's a few file path problems. I've changed my Steam, Origin, Uplay and all the game-related things to the new disk, so all my games are recognised, same with my Music Software. But the problem is there are a couple of old softwares I can't uninstall because it'll come up with the error "Error: Invalid Drive G:" since Drive G was removed, and now I have "Drive Z" How do I change my PC to recognise drive Z is the new HDD, instead of G?

Hi! I have on my home theater pc lots of tracks with music from the 60', 70', 80' and 90' (around 200GB) but some of them have different names, even though they are the same track. My question is if you guys know a program which scans by 0es and 1es or something like that to find these tracks and delete them.

Hi, i just got the recent windows update (build 17134.48) and it randomly started deleting all my files each time i went into a folder. every time a folder is opened it automatically start deleting the contents and does not even ask for permission. Is there any way of fixing this or is this just a problem with windows catching on complete nonsense

Where to start, The new update is bricking some computers and pretty much rotting everyone's home and small business networks. Mine included!! The update is removing homegroup (an easy way to set up file sharing and networks) among some other changes that can be seen here https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/deployment/planning/windows-10-1803-removed-features Although i din't use homegroup i was rendered incapable of being able to access and share my drives and files from PC to PC. The update made all of my PCs undiscoverable in the network tab in file explorer and even when i found a way to fix that, i was unable to gain access to said PCs, folders, and drives (even from the computer the files are stored on) through the network window. I am unable to map to them, the options in the network and sharing center seem to be just rhetorical now, and after individually going to drives, folders, files and changing sharing settings to full access for "everyone", and doing the same in network ad sharing center I am still unable to access my files from the network. Microsoft is trying to push the use of their cloud service through this update. The update has bricked a number of computers https://www.windowslatest.com/2018/05/24/windows-10-april-2018-update-bricks-pcs-and-microsoft-shares-workaround/ Microsoft has said " Instead of using HomeGroup, you can now share printers, files and folders by using features that are built into Windows 10" but this simply isn't true until i can find a fix that doesn't mean using the cloud or email.. yeah email is one of their other options. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4027674/windows-10-share-files-in-file-explorer https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4092694/windows-10-changes-to-file-sharing-over-a-network The above links say that shared folders will still remain shared but that simply isn't true.. My entire computers were rendered not discoverable and the update changed all of my sharing settings, then on top of that made it impossible for me to restore my sharing capability even though i hadn't been using homegroup. i found some helpful links that guieded me through getting the PC to show up in network again, but still can't access shared folders and files even from the same PC. I have posted to a microsoft hosted forum asking for help and will update on fixes if i get any. forum post to follow Hello, I recently updated my home PCs with the 1803 windows update and am unable to access previously shared files and folders from computer to computer. I was not using a "homegroup" there was no need to use one, but after the update my settings in the network and sharing center seem to be there for no reason at all. I have tried mapping to each computer and the shared folders. I have tried resetting the networks, renaming the PCs and folders, and workgroups, changing the sharing settings, and have exhausted every option i could think to gain access to my folders from other computers. even when i map to a shared folder or drive i get the error code 0x80070035 and after troubleshooting, the problem found states "The remote device or resource won't accept the connection". How can microsoft just break every home and small business network? People aren't going to use the cloud service. Sharing folders and homegroups aren't outdated, Microsoft's tactics are.... i am very frustrated with this. I feel that i am fairly computer savvy but i am admittedly at a loss for solutions to this network bricking update. PLEASE HELP! I shouldn't be forced to upload my terabytes of data and files to a cloud service so i can access them from computer to computer. trying to work with HDR video that way is a nightmare!!! In the meantime i am asking for help here...

Hey Guys. I am working on another persons PC to transfer files. He wants to move everything to this one drive. He has 158GBs of full storage on this drive, and 1.8 terabytes of storage on the D drive. How do I move everything from the C drive to the D drive without corrupting Windows data and screwing everything up with the programs. Can I just copy the drive, or do I need a special program to run it. Best, Django P.S. I can't screw this up, so if you are not sure please leave it for someone who knows what they are doing. Thanks!

Just now i did see something very streange on my lap top. Now after turning on i did see something strange, all files and folders (on desktop, downloads and documents) has disappear. This windows is fresh instaled and i only use this lap top for YT and movies by using BS Player so i dont think its some malware or virus. I only have instaled: Fortnite, BS Player, Torrent and Baidu Wifi Hotspot, chrome and VLC Media. Now i wanted to watch movies but torrent disappear, iso cd files and all files that was on Download and Documents. So i know that no one touches my Lap Top and i know that i did not delete anything so i was very confused. Searched almost 1h for files but no luck, then i decide to restart Lap Top and after restart, all files, folders and programs where back and this is first time in my 13 years of using PC that this happens Any idea what was this??? Is it possible that HDD is defected or i have intruder in my PC???

If I completely wipe my PC and use a USB installed with Windows 10 to reinstall my OS, can I put some files such as game files in the same USB that will be used to reinstall Windows?

I despise windows 10 for its shitty implementation of the file ownership system. i have change all the owner ship files to my user account but when ever i try and changing something like move a file into said folder it moves some off the folders and then says you need permission from administrator to do this action so i click okay and then it says you require permission from my own user account. help before a break my pc's hard drives

--------------- I was wondering if there are any programs besides MyDefrag which I use every 3 months to remove fragments from my SSD RAID 0. I know people say you shouldn't or it is not worth it and most of the time yes but ever since I did that first MyDefrag flash memory disk defrag my pc boots fast but I would get programs locking up and games stuttering and since then not an issue I only do 1 run every 3 months. Just wondering since it does move the files not like normal defrag when it moves them to the drive's header and closer to the program/game the file is with such as a game map or a song or program. But this just removes fragment and moves it to an empty sector at front of the drive sectors no need to sort them out no seek times. But again I was wondering if there is a way to just remove the fragments and not move the files. I know this seems a little stupid but I have 4 more 850 EVOS as a backup and I have 2 10tb normal hard drives for storage and large games etc. --------------- Little story. When BF1 was about 2 months old I would get stuttering and lockups due to the game trying to load parts of maps and not just BF1, CSGO, L4D2 you get the point. Since I use MyDefrag flash memory disk script Stutters were gone I have not had an issue in a year and all my games run the same fps no drop in performance. --------------- I have 2 x Samsung 850 Evo 250GB raid 0 --------------- PC Specs Gigabyte GTX1070 G1 8GB i7 - 4790 None K MSI - z97 PC Mate LGA-1150 Patriot 32GB DDr3 1600mhz Ram Corsair Hydro Series H55 Dual 120mm Fans dose ok for a CPU not overclocked. Kind of confusing title I know. Customer has damaged laptop with an SSD. He wants the user data backing up onto an external drive to use on replacement computer. Boot SSD into another machine, everything shows up and is accessible/readable but when you copy anything onto an external drive, the drive shows the size as being correct, but the folder shows as empty. I believed this was some security issues i've not come across before, but with the external connected to the machine running the original SSD, the files still do not show. Any tips to get this data to show would be amazing. Cheers, Jordan

I am trying to setup a Windows Server (2012 not r2) so that I can access the files of a ubuntu server through the windows server from another computer. So basically I want to have a client machine that logs into the windows server. The windows server then accesses the ubuntu machine where all of the files are stored and serves it to the client. To be clear I am not looking to do an FTP or remote connection. Here is a diagram to make more sense of what I am trying to accomplish.... I want to do it this way because I want to be able to use a windows type login all throughout the system so the user never has to look at the ubuntu login or interface. Any help is much appreciated!

I am in need of a program that can split MKV files by time or file size, preferring the latter. I am tried a few programs for free but they leave a hideous watermark covering the entire video playback area. I am not will to pay for this program, mind, you. If anyone would happen to know of a good program for this task it would be greatly appreciated.

Hello guys! I'm new to this forum, however I have asked all over for this and so far no solution has been found! I hope I don't sound silly asking this. I currently have one computer with all of our family videos and pictures on, I access this computer's files through a network shared folder. However I can obviously only access this while on my home network. Is there a way to make all my computers files instantly accessable (able to stream video from). It would be an advantage to be able to gain access to the files from iphones, tablets and laptops when we are on holiday. Willing to spend some money on this! Thanks in advance guys! Regards Ciaran

So I have one terabyte of storage on my computer, and for a short while now, windows (10) has been saying that I am running low on disk space. I noticed that didn't seem right. After some digging around I found that my computer has 441GB's of temporary files. I'm not really sure what temporary files are and what this means, and I was wondering if it would cause problems if I were to delete them?
