I'm getting mysterious random hidden folders in multiple locations in Windows Explorer - Documents folder, C Drive, D Drive, possibly more. Each folder contains several files with random real word file names - see screenshots. Several types of files are includes including JPG, DOC, XLS, RTD, Open Office. However when I open any of the files they contain no contents and are blank files. If I delete any of the folders they somehow recreate themselves soon after - this time with different random file names... Can anybody tell me what's going on? Is this a virus or something malicious? What can I do about this? (I've already scanned with my antivirus). Thanks!!

ok my ssd is almost full which to me makes no since since nothing goes on it but the updates for my os and the important stuff like msi programs. i was digging around and found a folder that is like 40 gigs. its the cbs files under windows-logs. is it ok to delete these files like the temp files. im trying to free up space cuz my 250gig ssd is down to 30 gigs of free space and i can not find anything that seems huge but that folder. my windows folder is 101gig big so if i can delete the 40 out of the logs folder under windows that will free up a little space. also when i do a system clean up it says that nothing is to high of an amount to give a worry to. helps will be apreciated all. thanks ^-^

Hey all, So, I work for an up and coming internet based studio, and we recently attended an event where we interviewed many key people in the community. Long story short, I wasn't paying attention and accidentally deleted the source video for the interviews and they were not backed up anywhere (a stupid mistake, I know). I used the EaseUS data recovery wizard in an attempt to recover the files and it technically recovered them, but I'm only able to play/use the bad interview takes (go figure ) and the rest are in some kind of corrupted state. I'm using a Windows 10 machine and the files came off of an SSD. Is there any way to go into the code with a text editor and change the directory header or what not?I've exhausted most of my knowledge and am at my wit's end. Any kind of help is appreciated.

My sister handed me her external harddrive (WB My Book) because she dropped it and it fell on the USB input rendering it useless. I took out the harddrive and plugged it in my PC finding it as "Unallocated", i did a lost partition recovery and noticed all the files recovered were 0 bytes. Anybody know how to fix this?

Hello guys, Today I just realized I had a lot of sensible information under the form of man encrypted files on my PC. I decided to compile them all into a few for ease of use. To get rid of the copies, I downloaded a cleaner program called Eraser and I erased those. Only after a while did I realize that all of the logs showed that the program couldn't erase the files properly due to them still being encrypted when I launched the process. Due to this, they do not show up anymore in windows and I need to recover them to un-encrypt them then re-erase them with the program. Do you guys know whether the files still actually exist as the program reports or do you think they have been deleted? If they still exist, could you recommend me a recovery program that isn't a virus and is free please? Thanks Regards

Hello, I was wondering does anyone have the Latest bootable DOS files for Samsung ssd's in Samsung magician so I can Secure Eraser my 2x Samsung 850 Pro 250GB = 500GB. Since it's in RAID 0 the program will not detect the ssd's unless I use another pc in AHCI, but un-raiding will delete all files and to much hassle just to un-raid and raid 0 again, install windows make bootable USB for Samsung Magician then erase them by do in a secure erase. But anyone who has the files could you upload them..

I made the stupid mistake of accidentally deleting some MTS files off of my Panasonic Camcorder SD Card, those were some important video files. For clarification, I deleted them CAM_SD\PRIVATE\AVCHD\BDMV\STREAM. I tried to use Recuva and other recover tools, but they replaced the file with the wrong video. Then when I put the SD card back in my Camcorder it says the videos are there but they can't be played. Any help would be appreciated.

I don't know how or why but they haven't been loading for me for a while. All I get is the "After you've opened some files, we'll show the most recent ones here." text right below a big fat goose egg for recent files. How can I get it to show properly?

I have 2 Windows 7 Pro computers that can load (and launch the application) from any type of file from a mapped drive. This summer I upgraded to Windows 10 Pro and found I can no longer load Autocad files (DWG) from a mapped drive; It only applied to Autocad DWG files. I double click on the dwg file, it loads the appropriate version of Autocad (Autocad 2002 LDD----yes I have clients who use really old software), then it comes up with the image below. It doesn't matter the version of Autocad (2002, 2016 or 2018 Civil). Also, when I try to save to the Z drive (my mapped drive), Autocad doesn't see the drive letter, so I can only save it in the network folder. I am guessing it is a permissions issue, but could be wrong.... For now I launch DWG files from the network folder. I would like to get this resolved if possible.... Thanks! My NAS is the Qnap TS-451+.

According to samsung repair policy when trading in one of their phones, they must factory reset the entire unit (For whatever reason) because of this i've been trying to do so but haven't found a basic all in one solution, Every solution i've read about has you do every category individually. what's the best way to backup this phone? I want to keep things simple If you're going to comment saying "Just do everything individually" Then don't bother commenting at all, that's not the issue.

I've just noticed that Plex doesn't recognize some of my media. I have a DVD that I have ripped over (Clarkson: The Good, the Bad, the Ugly) and I have placed it in the following file structure Media > TV Shows > Clarkson > Clarkson: The Good, the Bad, the Ugly (2006).mkv Anyone know why it's not showing? It's kind of in between a TV Show and a Movie, it's a DVD Doco, so idk...

Hello, After (what I consider to be) extensive research, I cannot find how to transfer files over an ethernet cable connecting two PCs directly. Has anyone done this? (Or know how it would be done?) Thanks in advance!

Alright, so heres my situation. I have ran into this issue a few times and it is quite frustrating. I have spent hours with Microsoft support and 2K games support, both getting me nowhere. I am trying to play XCOM 2: War Of The Chosen, and I learned that I cannot save my game, apparently because the games files are marked as "read-only" in the properties. According to the crappy support I got from Microsoft, the files are encrypted and cannot be changed from "read-only", even though support from 2K games told me to unmark "read-only" in the properties for the game folder. I really do not know what to do, this is pretty much my last try to see if anyone on here can help me, otherwise I wasted $40 on this game I can't create save files for.

So I have a PC that is running pirated Windows 7 Ultimate with almost none of the updates done on it. Back when the wannacry virus was around, I disconnected it from the internet (physically) in an attempt to protect it. That PC has 2 hard drives in RAID 1 that contain all the files of my family since like 1996. You can understand why I wanted to protect it. The hard drives are 2TBs each, but they are around half way full. What I want to do is get that PC online again, because my dad needs it. My family would not be comfortable spending basically any money on this, so I'm looking for a way to do it with what I have. So you may say, why not, just do what the title says, and bring that PC to windows 10? Well, Thing is, even if I did that, I still need to get the update that protects the PC, and that involves taking the risk to open it to the internet unprotected. I don't really expect there to be any more wannacry out there that could infect me, but I have another problem: do I trust a windows update on a machine that has ALL my files, with NO backup? I saw online that there is some firewall thing you can do to protect any Windows machine, with or without the update, but networking is my absolute weakest skill, I don't really trust myself that I will do it right. Even if I do it, I still want to bring the machine to Windows 10, and the question of trusting that update remains. Final idea is, can I just unplug the SATA connections to the hard drives, do all my stuff and then connect them back? They are in RAID. I have heard tales of RAID failing for no reason after being disconnected. The RAID is all from software, so it's even worse. But it's RAID 1, does that make a difference? It should be safer than RAID 0 or anything that involves spreading data across drives, but it still leaves questions. When I plug them back, will Windows know to say "These 2 drives are in RAID 1" or will it copy one to the other again, even though they are already identical? That PC has been unused since the wannacry thing because of this issue and we need it. Thank you for your help.

Whenever I transfer a folder of files, or one large file the hard drive starts beeping and it disconnects and I get an error message that says it can't find the hard drive. However when I transfer large files or multiple files to the drive on my laptop, I get no problems, it works fine. What's going on here? How can I fix this?

I am a CS student. In class we are learning how to read and write to files in C++. The slide had a program written that was supposed to do the following: Ask the user to enter the input file. Ask the user to enter the output file. Move the number from the input file to the output file. This was the program: #include <iostream> #include <fstream> #include <string> #include <cctype> using namespace std; int main() { ifstream fin; ofstream fout; string = f1, f2; cout << "Enter the input file name: "; getline(cin, f1); fin.open(f1); if(fin.fail()) { cout << "Failed to open file."; exit(1); } cout << "Enter the input file name: "; getline(cin, f2); fout.open(f2); if(fout.fail()) { cout << "Failed to open file."; exit(1); } int num; fin >> num; fout << num; fin.close(); fout.close(); return 0; } When I compile this code I get the following errors: T.cpp: In function ‘int main()’: T.cpp:13:9: error: expected unqualified-id before ‘=’ token string = f1, f2; ^ T.cpp:15:15: error: ‘f1’ was not declared in this scope getline(cin, f1); ^ T.cpp:20:9: error: ‘exit’ was not declared in this scope exit(1); ^ T.cpp:23:15: error: ‘f2’ was not declared in this scope getline(cin, f2); ^ T.cpp:28:9: error: ‘exit’ was not declared in this scope exit(1); I was able to fix the exit(); errors by including <stdlib.h>, but the other errors remain. Does anyone know what is wrong with this program?

I suggested around a month ago to my mom for us to get a home server for storing files, and with the help of the forum I made a build. Here it is in all it's glory: http://www.pcpartpicker.com/list/6Q29wV I'll be installing Centos 7 on it. I've decided to go with a Linux server over a NAS because there's a specific thing that I want to set up in our house that can only be done on Linux and a Linux server is much more customizable than something like freenas. We have a 4tb external hdd which I just took apart now, which is why one of the hdds is marked as bought. The other is just an identical copy of it. I also just have a few final questions: For files, is all I have to do is plug the server into the modem or router and it'll be available to all our other computers? Or do I need to do a little more? This is the thing I want to set up on the server. It says to be used on ubuntu server but will it be fine on centos 7? I plan to put raid 1 on the hdds just in case of a drive failure. Can I set that up through Linux or do I do it through the bios? Thanks guys for the help! I'm more of a PC hardware guy and don't know that much about Linux, NAS's and servers, or networking and file sharing in general so thanks for helping me out with this!

So my sister has had a macbook (sadly) for a while now, apparently she was bringing it into the bathroom to listen to music while she showered. She took it to a shop and they said the motherboard was corroding (I didnt see any signs but he probably knows more than I do). She wants me to extract the files from her hard drive so she can have her pictures and other stuff, I got the HDD out and plugged it into my computer via a hot swap dock, turned the computer on and couldn't find it in the file explorer. went to disk manager and I can see it but I cant do anything with it, it is already partitioned, wont let me assign a pathway, I just want to extract the files and helpful links on file extraction or any advice here would be appreciated.
