  1. Hi, this is my first full pc build and I have a Fractal Design R4. The fan controller has 3 pan connectors, a molex connector, and whatever the hell this is. I tried turning it on without this plugged in because I have no clue where it goes and obviously the fans didn't spin. Anyone know where it goes? (It's not a sata power, I tried that.)
  2. Hello, since pc fans run on 12V and LED strips also run on 12V, would it be possible to connect a led strip to a fan controller (3 pin, since it uses voltage regulation) and then regulate the brightness through BIOS or even use RGB to change color depending on temperature. I know you couldn't control the colors but since red lights up at lower voltage than blue it would be possible in theory? Ty
  3. Hello, I just want to know what is the best fan controller of these 3 (or post a better one if you know), I want to know which of these have the most stable software too cause I don't want it crashing a lot. The fan headers in my motherboard are linked together so all 3 of them run at the same speed whatever i set 1 of them to. Also can you tell me if i need to have the software for each of these constantly running to maintain their fan/speed curve's. I know on the NZXT GRID+ you need to have the CAM software running but im not sure about the other 2, I want to be able to set the fan curves for each of my fans individually and then close the software and the fans would follow their speed curves. This doesn't matter if the software is very stable and doesn't take up much resources, one of the reasons i don't want to buy the grid is cause i heard that it crashes a lot and is a huge resource hog. Thank you
  4. I using a Corsair 760t for my chassis, and I'm debating wether or not to use the built in fan controller, or connect the the fans directly into the motherboard. Is there a specific advantage for one that makes it the better option, or is it just down to personal preference? Thanks!
  5. So I have an NZXT S340, and I was thinking about changing out the fans for some Be Quiet! Pure Wings 2's. I was thinking maybe four of them. My mobo only has two fan headers, and only one of them is 4 pin and the other is 3 pin. I wanted to know if there was a way that I could install a fan controller in order to plug in the fan. My case doesn't have any 5.25" Drive Bays and I didn't think that using splitters would be a great idea but I am open to suggestions. Thanks for the help!
  6. Hi All, So I've upgraded to 1700 with gigabyte ax370 gaming 5, as this is a common case and i could not find answer to google thought i'd leave a post here, likely would affect other configurations using this case too. Essentially fan hub keeps going full blast nutter no matter what i did, tried lowering speeds, changing fan headers mostly everything, it just keeps going full blast. Long story short it's due to hub not supporting too low an RPM by the look of it, once i bumped lowest to ~30% on motherboard and disabled "auto-fan stop" it's gone to the nice low RPM and quiet operation. Now i just need to find out how to sync my motherboard and cpu cooler RGBs with the ram RGBs (G skills)... probably will need to wait for an update to get it compatible with gigabyte software or something.
  7. I'm looking for a fan controller because, along with not having enough fan headers on my mobo, it makes sense to get one where I can easily adjust it. Since these two are similar in looks and cost, which one should I go for? NZXT Sentry 3 Thermaltake Commander FT
  8. Hello, I recently built a new computer and need some help regarding the fan setup. Here are some of the the specs: Case: Phanteks Enthoo Pro M Acrylic Fans: 3 Corsair Air Series AF140 LED Quiet Edition High Airflow Fan Amazon Link. 2 Intake on Front and 1 exhaust on the back. 2 Phanteks 140mm PH-F140SP Amazon Link on top of case as exhaust CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO Amazon Link GPU: MSI GeForce 1070 Gaming Z New Egg Link Mother Board: MSI Z170A Gaming M5 Amazon Link I am open to other fan setup suggestions. The mother board only supports 3 case fans. I have one of the two remaining fans hooked up to the second CPU fan header. This leaves one fan disconnected. I have been doing some research on how to fix this problem but quickly got confused and could use your suggestions. Here are some of the options that I found: 1. Fan Cable Splitter - JBtek All Black Sleeved PWM Fan Splitter Cable 1 to 2 Converter 2. Simple Fan Hub - https://www.amazon.com/SilverStone-System-Cables-Black-CPF04/dp/B00VNW556I/ref=sr_1_3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1477965120&sr=1-3&keywords=computer+fan+splitter 3. More Robust Fan Hub - https://www.amazon.com/Phanteks-PWM-Fan-Controller-PH-PWHUB_01/dp/B00M0R05WE/ref=sr_1_9?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1477965260&sr=1-9&keywords=fan+hub or https://www.amazon.com/Nzxt-AC-GRDP2-M1-Digital-Controller-connector/dp/B0156YBCKG/ref=sr_1_10?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1477965286&sr=1-10&keywords=fan+hub 4. Fan Controller - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002L16OMO/ref=twister_B00CNY4NTK?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 or https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00KJGYLNM/ref=twister_B00CNY4NTK?_encoding=UTF8&th=1 It seems like the easiest and cheapest way to hook up the last case fan and properly hook up the one that is currently on the second CPU fan header would to be simply to get the splitter cable. What advantages are there to spending a little bit more money on a hub or a controller? It seems like the MSI utilities will do a good job at controlling the fan speeds on their own.
  9. My PC build that I'm doing soon will have the Cryorig C7 (I'm not overclocking so it's fine) and I'm buying two red LED case fans. Do I need a fan controller? I'm not exectly sure. If you need to see my motherboard, my build is here- https://pcpartpicker.com/user/TyFilms/saved/dQpgsY If I do need a case fan, I'll change my case the the Spec 02. Honestly, I think they just look really cool and I want to make my friends think my PC is more high end then it really is No but really, case fans look awesome. Imagine knowing nothing about PCs, and your friends has this- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811992013 glowing out from their gaming build.
  10. Hey guys, I'm going to buy a new programming and virtualization PC soon and I need your advice. I'm looking into buying a budget case for my new PC as I don't really care about the look of my machine. Which one is better in your opinion: Antec's GX500, Antec's GX505 or Zalman's Z3 Plus? The Z3 P has 4 included fans (which is a great advantage for me) but offers simpler fan controller (low-high) compared to the GX500 2 switches (low-off-high) controller and the GX505 one switch controller (low-off-high). The Z3 P's front dust filter seems to be hard to detach according to some reviews I saw. However, it offers a really cool multi guide which can be used to support big GPU's or installing a fan. I have no idea what's the real difference between GX500 and GX505 expect the the GX500 offers a better fan controller. I'll be happy to hear your recommendations on one of those cases, or any other case which is in the $60 range, and includes at least 3 case fans. Thanks!
  11. I'm about to build my first PC and my case has an optical drive bay. I was going to just put in a DVD drive, because I thought fan controllers were pricey. But I looked it up, and they actually aren't... so what are they? What do they do? I tried looking it up, but I still don't get it.
  12. hello the wonderful people of LTT i thought i would never have to re address this issue alright so i have an asus board, and with it came "fan expert 4" a program i loved do to its simple click here and all fans go the same speed, and u can set a speed for each of the 4 presets but (back when i built pc) there weren't enough headers (by a long shot) so i bought a Corsair commander, and ive been using that ever since, but the software is ass...like beyond ass its nice if im doing something intensive for a little ( as i have the fan curve to not ramp up, i keep the audio down for my sanity sake) bue when i want to do something much moreintesive for a longer period i have to go in and change about 7 settings manually so my computer is well cooled bottom line, is there a way i can have fan expert 4 ( or another similar program) forcefully take control when i want, then when i deactivate it it goes back to its default
  13. G'day team I recently had to build a new rig, my last one of 6 years died a valiant death right before an assignment (eugh). Dropped a bunch on: Ryzen 7 1700X AsRock X370 Gaming X Corsair 460X Crystal RGB 16GB 3000MHz Corsair Vengeance DDR4 Cooler Master Master Liquid 120 AIO New GPU is on the cards for later on, for now I've got a 760 in there that's chugging along well. The case is great, looks fab, pain in the ass for cable management in the back. The mistake I made is that the three case fans are 3-pin and there are four of them. There are headers for 3 case fans on the mobo but only one of them supports DC control. I don't want to have the other two on full as it's noisy AF - so can this problem be solved with a fan controller? If so, what can I buy that will allow me to control the 3-pin case fans? Like, is there something that can convert PWM control to DC? If it helps I'm Aus based so something I can get from a local supplier would be awesome. Cheers!
  14. Hey guys, So I wasn't having too much luck on google and thought I would turn to the forum for some help. I am looking for a slim odd and fan controller that will fit in a regular 5.25 bay. Does such a thing exist? I know slim odd with dual 2.5" hot swap bays are made and so are card readers with slim odd are made. If you can shed any light on my search it would be appreciated. Also I didn't know which section to put this in, so I put in General Discussion. Sorry if I put it in the wrong place.
  15. Hello. I bought Lamptron CM430 yesterday. And today it lies blown up next to my PC. Are there any good quality fan controller which actually don't have cables with contacts popping out of connector after connecting fan, causing shortage and blowing out device? And ones that don't have terrible cold joints on PCB and almost soldered together accidentally pins? And maybe ANY short circuit protection AT ALL? Oh almost forgot about dent fan connector on PCB sticking out under like 60 degree instead of 90... Jesus Christ this thing felt like cheap toy soldered by poor Chinese kid on rice shortage... I tested it on separate PSU and fans because I was afraid it's gonna blow out whole PC. I need thermal sensors support and It'd be nice to have hot-plug capability as I need to connect it to 24/7 running server and I'd like to connect it without shutting down whole thing.
  16. Hi Everyone, Good day. I just want to ask if there's any decent Fan Controller Software that you would recommend? I am currently using my built-in motherboard software however the minimum speed is 1100 RPM which to me - is still fast and unnecessary esp. when I am just browsing. I have : MSI B350M Mortar and AMD Ryzen 1600X. On my Kaby Lake setup, I have the Thermaltake Riing Plus App that would allow me to go 300 RPM. Is there any similar software that would allow me to go at least 500 RPM or lower? I need that kind of speed esp. when I am away or just browsing. 1100 RPM is still too much. I would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks so much LTT Community!
  17. Warm greetings everyone, I've seen a lot of discussion as to the use of SpeedFan to control a specific fan/set of fans. I have an ASUS STRIX 270G miniATX and set up SpeedFan to control the CPU fan header in "manual" mode (I was finally able to get to this point by setting Q-Fan in UEFI/Bios to "Disabled" for control of the CPU fan header). Now that I can set the fan control to remember "manual", I have linked the specific CPU fan header to run based off of the GPU temperature and set a custom curve. In the main page of SpeedFan, I can see that the program is attempting to control the fan speed via the percentage setting in accordance to the GPU Temperature Vs. Fan Speed curve I created. However, even manually adjusting and adjustment to the curve for 100% fan setting at idle temperatures produces unsuccessful results in fan speed changes. I have come to the conclusion that there is something still running in the background other than the bios (disabled Q-Fan control as mentioned) which is still controlling the fans. I have uninstalled Ai Suite 3 and Fan Expert and removed any residual executable processes still running ("AsusFanControlService" and "AsSysCtrlService") in the task manager. There must be something else overriding attempts from SpeedFan... but what? I am new to building computers (just built my first one and I adore it) so I don't have a lot of experience with the nitty gritty details. Would one of you experts in the subject matter be able to point me in the right direction? Thank you in advance and I look forward to learning from this community. Best Regards.
  18. So recently I built myself my first computer, It has come to my attention that I need to revamp my poor air cooling setup. My cpu throttles itself even when it idles (I swear I have the world's worst heat sink right now), my gpu starts to throttle when I start anything intensive like gaming (both cpu and gpu throttle themselves at 60 celsius). I have 2 fans running in the front and one in the back. They are all 120mm and three pins. Also, 2 are static pressure fans? (I forget what their called). In terms of the cooling performance I do want to overclock my both my cpu and gpu. My case has 3 intakes (1 back (120mm) and 2 top (120-140mm) and 3 outakes (all front,120-140mm), I'm not too concerned about noise, but more effectiveness. I would also like a fan controller that would automatically change the fan speed based on cpu or gpu temps. For my cpu the clearance is 160mm (according to the box my case came in) So basically to sum it up I'm thinking a heat sink, 4 fans (one static pressure to blow air through my drive cage), and a fan controller to control them. My budget is $100 Canadian.
  19. G'day, I'm looking at making myself a custom fan controller to go with a side project that is currently underway, as the fans run awfully slow on the cheap mobo, yet too fast straight off the PSU. It's kinda scrapyard wars inspired, so I'm being cheap and scabby and just want to make one instead of spending more money. With the info out of the way, I basically need to know what kind of Potentiometers I need to use. Do they need to be rated to a certain amperage and voltage so they don't overheat/explode? Also, what kind of resistance do I need to have, in order to have a fairly wide range of control over the speed/noise of the fans? If you've done anything like this yourself, I wouldn't mind having a look. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Cheers.
  20. Hello, I just got a new case with up to 8 possible fan installations and I would like to use all slots but I will need a fan controller because my mobo has no headers. Any recommendations on what to pick?
  21. hi, i recently built a pc and ive found that ive run out of fan headers, i also discovered i do enjoy the led lighting effects on the msi godlike carbon mobo. so my question is, can anyone recommend a solid fan controller and led management addon so i can front mount em to the case. if they are one unit great, but ive only seen the 2 different controllers seperate. i plan on running a couple more fans for intake and exhaust, plus i wouldnt mind getting some more lighting coordinated in the case. ive got a thermaltake case that can fit like 6-7 mid tower desktops in it
  22. I have a Silent Base 801 case, which comes with a fan controller. The fan controller is connected to the motherboard (AsRock B450 Pro4) with 4 pins and should get a PWM signal to control all fans of the case, each connected with 3 pins to the fan controller. My problem is that whatever fan profile I set in the BIOS, the fans always run at around 1000 RPM. As a test I connected one fan (3 pin) to the motherboard instead of the fan controller and was able to control this one fan without any problems. This leads me to the conclusion that the fan controller isn't working properly. I've already sent a message to the case manufacturer and they would provide a replacement PCB, although they don't think it'll help. So before having them send me one, I wanted to ask you if there are other ways to check if the fan controller actually is the problem. Maybe the problem is (again) on my side, so any tips to solve this (or at least determine the cause) are appreciated Edit: Levels 1-3 of the switch work as as expected, but when it is on "Auto", the fans just spin at 1000 RPM.
  23. The situation: I built myself an awesome PC about 5 months ago and it's been running great except for one issue that's been a bit annoying. When I configured the build I chose to go with 6 of Corsair's SP120s as my system fans. 5 of them are mounted on the radiators and 1 is mounted in the back of the case (I know this is not the best configuration but I thought I'd put it there for its looks). Here's a picture of the PC: To power all the fans I'm currently using the fan hub that came with my case (Fractal Design Define R6 Blackout TG). Here's my current configuration: The problem: I have tried various different combinations of settings in the UEFI and connections on and to the fan hub. I initially used PUMP1 and now have it connected to SYS_FAN4 on the motherboard but it didn't make much of a difference. Also, connecting the fans to the hub's PWM or 3-pin headers didn't make any difference. So, I was never fully able to control the fans the way I want to. I'm now at the point where all my fans are always running at their minimum speed which is definitely enough to cool the system even under full load. However, I'd still like to turn them off when the system is idling or under low to medium load (which is most of the time). My hope was that I might be able to control them using just the 3-pin headers but I've never been able to turn them off completely, no matter what settings or connections I tried. I also tried controlling the fans using SpeedFan which didn't work out either. However, even if it did it wouldn't have helped much since I use Ubuntu most of the time where SpeedFan is not available. So, here are my questions: - Am I doing something completely wrong or is it not possible for me to set the fans up the way I want to? - Do PWM fans support being turned off completely? - If it's not possible to control the fans the way I want to I'd like to buy a fan controller that either doesn't require any software (hardware-controlled) or has software that's available for Linux, have you got any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

    Fan Hub

Hello, Since my Scythe Kaze Something from years ago is kinda dying.. I would like to get a Fan Hub or something to control the speed of my 6 Arctic F12's. Is there a better way to control the speed of the fans, rather than buying another 5.25' bay controller? Will a Fan Hub do the job? How that works? If so.. Can you recommend me a simple Fan Hub that will do the trick? Thanks in advance
  25. So this one's stumped me, recently I installed a few case led strips into my PC (knowing it increases preformance by up to 20x) and since installing them my case fans have ramped up to 100% it seems when I boot into windows, it's possible I could have moved a wire or something when installing but I don't recall it. When I'm in the bios my case fans are perfectly fine acting and sounding normal. My case fans are connected to my fan hub that came with my case (my case is the NZXT Noctis 450) and I have my fan hub connected to the cpu_opt connector however I have also tried changing to the cha_fan1 connector to no avail. Could it be something in the bios that could have been changed or something idk, this really has me stumped. My CPU isn't hitting anywhere near 100% it's floating around the 30% mark under load.
