My SSD suddenly did not appear in windows after multiple short-lived failures in the past, so I didn't think much of it and repeated the same things I had done before to attempt to fix it (turned the system off entirely, unplugged and replugged in both the power and sata cable for the ssd, and then rebooted). After this, I decided to flash my BIOS with the latest update seeing as I haven't done so before, and after doing so my SSD appeared in the BIOS, so I figured it was working now, but after booting into windows, it wasn't listed in my file explorer, so I went into disk management to see if it was in there, and although it was there, it didn't have any real data that windows could see, and it would give me an error saying that the drive didn't exist whenever I would attempt to initialize it or anything. After rebooting many more times, and replacing the data cable, and trying different sata ports on my mobo, it only got worse, and eventually it just stopped showing up in my BIOS altogether. Weirdly enough, it still shows up as Disk 1 in disk management in windows, although with no information again, and lacking the ability to even initialize it now. I would expect some kind of failure if I were using the drive to constantly fill it with different information, but I barely ever added data to the drive unless it was game downloads, or the occasional recordings of me and some friends. The drive is also not even two years old yet, as I bought it January 4th 2019, but the first problems emerged around May 15th of this year, in fact, it's still covered under warranty, but I would like to at least recover some of the data off of it if possible, seeing as I had a lot of clips and things on there that I hadn't even begun to put into projects yet. TL;DR my SSD already was having issues before, but now I think it's dead as it doesn't even show up in the BIOS anymore, but I don't believe I did anything to fuck it up

Hey guys, Lately, I’ve been having issues regarding my boot drive. Every time I boot up into windows, a message pops up on the loading screen saying “press any key to skip boot checking.” It happens every time and I’m just trying to see what I can do. My SSD is formatted as an NTFS drive, which apparently makes it more difficult to recover? I’m just trying to see if anyone knows if this means my drive is failing, corrupted, in dire need of RMA. UPDATE: I used the SMART Tool that Intel has available for their consumers. It was unable to find anything wrong with the drive. However, when I go to properties and use the error checking tool in Windows, it says that errors were detected and every time I try to repair those errors, they do not go away. Any guidance?

Hello! I just built my first system, all new parts, but it doesn't do anything when I press the power button. The system is not complete, graphics card hasn't arrived yet, but here's the parts list: CPU: Ryzen 5 3600 Mobo: Asus Prime X470 pro RAM: G.Skill Trident-Z Royal 3000Mhz cl16 2x8GB Storage: Kingston a2000 1TB m.2 nvme ssd PSU: Corsair RM 650x Case: Lian-Li Lancool 2 I just wanted to testboot the parts that I already have, because there are some parts that are closing in on their 1 month after purchase. The motherboard is sure getting power, because the rgb lights up as soon as I flip on the psu. I tried reconnecting the powerswitch connector every way, also tried shorting out the pins, didn't work. Reconnected the power cables, reseated the ram sticks, didn't work. As a last resort I pulled the graphics card from my flatmates pc and put it in my rig, still didn't work. Might be worth to note that the mobo was an OEM part. I have three possibilities in mind: 1. The mobo has a case of DOA 2. maybethe cmos battery is dead. 3. The board might have been sitting in the sellers storage since before the bios updates, so the bios might not have been flashed to support ryzen 3000 series (though i don't know if that could cause a no power on). Please, help me out!

So basically, I tried to put bitlocker on my 2 TB hard drive (which was a huge mistake... never do it again). It took so long that I cancelled it but something happened in it? So I tried to recover it with an option in cmd (I forgot what it was... maybe diskpart?) but my dad shut off the computer in the process of recovering by accident. Now, I have a hard drive that when I plug in to my computer, crashes Disk Management and shows up as Local Disk (D:) and Local Disk (E:) which I have no idea how it got there. It does show up as a 2 TB Seagate Drive when I pull up device manager so that's a plus... Oh and diskpart freezes every time I try and use it with admin permissions in cmd... So I have some plusses that it is showing up but some others to indicate that it's failing. Does anyone have any advice on how to fix it in as little cost as possible? I have given up trying to recover the data off of the hard drive so even trying to wipe and reset the hard drive is good enough for me. Thank you very much! (Quick update: when I unplugged my hard drive, it does show up as Disk 1 in disk management but it says unreadable... Shown as a picture below)

So this is my first build and everything was working fine until i plugged in an older gpu my friend gave me for encoding. Mobo = ASRock B450 steel legend Cpu = Ryzen 5 2600 Gpu = gtx 1650 super Ram = 2 8gb T-Force 3200 Psu = Thermaltake smart 430w ----------------------------------------------- We plugged in the older gpu to use the encoder for obs and now all of the onboard leds blink red and nothing happends it just blinks no beeps. Ive looked all over the forums but they talk about the rgb headers. Not the mobo blinking red and not posting. No fan spin no nothing. We unplugged the old gpu but still nothing its an older amd gpu.

I just built my first PC after waiting for 2 months for the parts and overpaying for inflated parts; it isn't booting nor producing any beep codes, just dead. I'm looking at the PSU since (aside from the basics such as properly seating the processor, inserting the ram in their proper slots, not a misplaced standoff, or actually turning on the PSU, etc.) I've also pre-tested my RAM and Graphics Card in a computer service shop and they're working perfectly. Components: AMD Ryzen 5 3600 Asus TUF B450-M Plus Gaming Powercolor RX580 (Used but as said already tested) 2 x 4 gb 2666 Mhz Kingston HyperX 256 gb Team Group GX2 SATA 2.5" SSD 1 tb Seagate Barracuda Item in question: Corsair CV550 80+ Bronze More details: I've tried shorting out the front panel power button pins and the computer still won't start. Next, I've disconnected the PSU from the rest of the computer except for the Molex fans and drives, I tried the paperclip test on it, and the fan did not move even by a bit. I even tried swapping the cable for another one but still nothing. If anyone has the same model could you please tell me if the fan immediately turns after turning your computer on (read on some forums that some PSU fans don't immediately start turning until hitting up a certain load) or if anyone has an idea on why it's not booting at all, please let me know. I can't afford having an expensive brick after working my ass off and am on the end of my wits

My PC was working perfectly fine until I wanted to help a friend of mine. His PC was not turning on at all. It would only light up for a short period and then turn off again. I offered him my help. We connected his MoBo and with the PSU of my parent´s PC and tried to turn it on. It lit up for a short period and then shut down. Afterwards nothing was turning on. My friend´s and parent´s PC were both dead. My friend´s PC was not turning on anymore not even for a short period. My parent´s PC would turn on but it just has a black screen now. Even the connected M/K do not have power (Numblock and Caps Lock indicator not turning on). I wanted t test if the CPU was dead so I put it in my PC which has the same socket (AM4). The PC would not boot at all, same problem. I forgot that the CPU was a newer generation and the BIOS on my MoBo did not support it yet. Thus putting in my old CPU because I wanted to download a newer BIOS and flash it. But now windows would end up in a BOSD loop. The furthest I got was the login screen. Things I could check quickly if they are showing up in the BIOS correctly are: - right CPU - right CPU clock - right amount of RAM I thought I might have destroyed my Win10 Partition. No big deal everything import is in the cloud or on external drives. I wanted to install Linux and grabbed ubuntu. During the installation I got got his screen. The second screen got me to the live part of the installation but it complety froze. M/K a light up but caps lock is not working. USB Drive is not showing reads or writes. For me as a somewhat noob it looks like a hardware failure but I can not determine which part. And how it lead to two dead PCs.

Occasionally I notice a strange glitchy effect on my TV screen (which I use for my PC). It occurs seemingly randomly, and doesn't appear to be linked to gaming or other demanding processes. This artifacting looks like your stereotypical glitchy effect screen seen in movies i.e. screen tearing; white dotted lines/matrix etc. This has been happening over the past 6 months and I think it's getting worse. What could be causing this? My first guess was GPU failure, but surely it would have died already? And gaming doesn't seem to trigger the artifacting. My TV is really old now, perhaps it's that? Any help is appreciated

I installed the new card after DDU, all seemed fine until I got the brilliant idea of setting PUBG to maximum ultra settings and the PC shut off. Okay no worry it might been a bug? Trying to start and it was just blinking until I pressed the PSU switch and then it stopped blinking and it was on again, ok lets try again and 3 minutes after rejoining it happened again... Okay? I then repeated what I did earlier and reduced settings and to be sure set the GPU profile to power saving mode, so I overloaded the PSU? What does blinking light of doom mean? PLZ TELL, LTT CREW & FANS YOU ARE MY ONLY HOPE! O3O My guess is I overlaoded the PSU? :3

So my friends PC has been having some trouble. He stayed at his dads house for a week, leaving his PC at his mothers house, turned off, which was the last time it was working fine, but when he came back it wouldn't run. It started by making it to windows but then crashing with various crash reports. Then it wouldn't even turn on, it would start up and the fans would spin, then they'd stop. Recently I've gotten it to turn on and about 80% of the time it makes it to post, but then after a bit, or even during the post it will crash. Very rarely does it even reach windows anymore, and whenever I try to do something in "windows repair mode" I can't even run one task without it locking up or crashing! I've reset the CMOS, re-seated the ram and GPU, and tested the PSU...I think I've narrowed it down to a bad Windows installation, bad hard drive, or bad motherboard, but I'm not entirely sure.. please help me out!!! His specs: Ryzen 5 1500x, 8gb gskill ripjaw ram, GTX 1050 Ti.... (Posted from Reddit)

Hi all, I've had a client who's NAS died and all the data was lost, we've replaced the NAS and they're all up and running but it turns out one of the machines (Windows 8.1) kept offline copies of the old NAS that we're still able to access, I've been slowly restoring files from the offline files to the new NAS but it's very slow as it's only letting me do a sub folder at a time (Folder 1 is a large folder with over 900 sub-folders) I'm guessing this is due to file size limits as sometimes I have to go into the individual sub-folders and copy the files one by one. Is there any faster way to do this?

z170-pro Z170-Pro/i5 6400 (No display, Solid Boot Device LED)
aex90832 posted a topic in Troubleshooting
I'm having an issue where by my computer will not display anything to the monitors. No access to BIOS. Motherboard speaker is installed. With everything installed I got a solid DRAM light with no beeps, no post, and no display. Tried the MemOK process. No change. I then tried different RAM configurations (both individually/together and in different slots/combinations), ending up with just 1 RAM stick installed following the User Manual. This resulted in a singular beep, a solid boot_device_led and the CPU fan speed reducing to idle. GPU fans are going as well. I know the keyboard works because I am able to CTL+Alt+Del to restart the computer at this point. I've tried both GPUs together and separately as well as connecting directly to the motherboard HDMI/VGA ports. I have tried removing devices one-by-one, until ultimately ending up with only the 1 RAM stick, and the CPU. No hard drive, or GPU plugged at all. I've attempted re-seating all power connectors, all peripheral connectors, removing CMOS battery, jumping the CLRTC jumper, etc. Everything in this configuration, save for the Z170-PRO, is confirmed functioning as I'm combining parts from my old PC (GPU, all SATA drives, peripherals) and another functioning PC I received (CPU/Fan, RAM, PSU, however using a H110 motherboard). Both donor computers booted and ran without issues immediately before the Frankenstein build. I want to rule out everything before making a claim on the Z170-Pro as I purchased it used. Last night my power cut out, afyer waking up this morning I fired up my pc. It then took forever to start (I have the boot set to a WD 250gb solid state) it lbooted then moving around any files were every slow (on the 1tb WD not the ssd). I then figured restarting my pc would help it if not, I'd run ccleaner. It rused to boot, it tried to "repair" the drive, if then failed and said it found nothing wrong. After gojng through command prompt, it found nothing wrong with my drives, no bad sectors. I then tried a reset and neither reset option worked. My pc refused to boot in safe mode or any other cautionary mode. I have not had the opportunity to reset the system image, but I dont have another device to download an image, Monday I will be able to. Anyones ideas or suggestions are appreciated. Thanks. Recently everytime i star to play a game my gpu its 90c. It only comes down when i open msi afterburner. Even on hot summers day it didnt get this hot, the max temp was 80c. I don't know if the problem is related to the drivers or is the gpu. The gpu is the MSI RX480 (https://www.msi.com/Graphics-card/Radeon-RX-480-GAMING-X-8G.html).

Hi Everyone! So I'm trying to rescue a 1TB hard drive I had lying around of the house in order to used as a BackUp drive in raid 1. The drive was apparently dead so I took a closer look at the PCB and noticed that one of the chips was clearly fried. So I ordered one PCB and swapped the BIOS, and now it does spin and makes some clicking noises I recorded: To be honest, I accidentally lose one resistor near the BIOS... two times so I swapped it with one of the same board (Not from the donor one cause I lose it too) and because I forgot to do the measure, I don't even know if the resistor has the same ohms I have opened and recorded drive working: So I need to know if this problem is because of that resistor or because something else is wrong The PCB serial is: 2060-701640-002 REV A and the resistor I lost was the one placed at R61 Thank you very much in advance! Hi, about a week ago my computer started acting weird when i ran "intensive" graphical programs (games). Whenever I try to play a game it freezes for about 1 min, goes black screen and back to the game. Also sometimes i get these white and black checkers patterns on my screen. I've tried unistalling my with DDU drivers and reinstalling them. I've also checked temperature and it's not overheating while playing games.

So I have to ask if anyone here has had this level of BS come up at any time in their tech lives: So I work at a small computer store and through the past few months with the GPU Shortages we have had maybe 6 GTX1060's in store to sell. One of the 1060's was sold to a guy that came back the next day saying it was DOA. We tested it and what do you know it was. No I told my manager that the Customer should do the RMA himself, but the Manager wanted to see if we could do it via our Wholesaler and not threw ASUS. This was around the time that news of the big box stores Stopping In Store RMA/Exchanges because of Lack of Stock mind you. So against my recommendations we took the card back in and after almost a MONTH!!! It comes back "FIXED"(I don't know the details of the RMA whether it was done via ASUS or our Wholesaler mind you). We give it back to the customer and all is well for a time... Fast forwared to Today "4/5/18" the guy came in with the card because it started failing AGAIN. This time he says the card ramps up its fans and the screen goes black. At some point along the lines two FAN Blades had Snapped Off and he brought them in with the card expecting US to do the RMA for him again. Again I told my Manager that The Customer should do the RMA himself, and again my Manager said we would take it in. This time I was so mad I got up and walked away and made him take it in. I got a dressing down for this fact, but I have had it with this BS. This GPU has been RMA'd once before, it's got a Broken Fan and the guy thinks We can get it Replaced? I feel bad for the guy, he paid the $350 for the card and I've never had a GPU fail like this before but this time the card has Physical Damage. How are we meant to RMA it? I can't even trust to test it because the Fan's our out of balance.... Well that's my rant all. Hope your day is going better then mine. At least I got to build my first Mini-ITX system today. Check out my Instagram if you want to see it.

I have a 2007 hp pavillion a6238x that had 2gb of ram then I later swapped it out for 8gb of ram. Then it also had an Intel Core 2 Duo e4500 that I swapped out with a Intel Core 2 Duo e8500. The computer turns on no weird noises or any differences it seems to work just fine, but it displays nothing besides no source signal. Please help.

So.. I've been holding off on asking this because it seemed like something minor, but now it's gotten to the point of no return. I have an ASUS Z9PA-U8 server motherboard running a xeon e5 2620, 16gb ddr3 (@1333mhz, ECC), powered by a new RM650x psu and running server 2016. The issue I am having is that the server will be running fine, with good temps and no indication of problems, followed by an abrupt power failure and restart. In event viewer, this is identified by event 41 ("The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first"). The problem here, is that there are no other errors that go with it to indicate what is going on before or after (i.e. stop error bugcheckcode). To make matters even more confusing, poking random parts, like trying to remove the VGA connector to disconnect the monitor, causes power failure. I have updated to the most recent bios, and the memory and CPU are on the QVL. I also have no random USB devices connected and only the one boot drive. This is a pretty expensive MOBO.... any ideas?

Hello and thank you for helping me out with this issue I'm having here. So recently my computer has struggled with boot up with the occasional blue screen for a few seconds before windows loads, and the desktop not loading forcing a restart. Also, the time spent in BIOS seems to have increased, it has gone from 30s to about 300s. (That's alarming since I have windows installed on a SSD) I then decided to take a look in the start up applications in the task manager and disabled the ones I don't need (see attached image), and that did nothing to help the startup time. In fact it might have taken longer. Here are my specs: Gigabyte Ultra Durable GA-Z170-HD3P Motherboard (Has UEFI DualBios) CPU- Intel Core i7-6700k @ 4.00GHz GPU(If needed)- Nvidia GTX 1080 RAM - 32 GB Windows version - 1709 Build - 16299.371 So after reading this here is my obvious question: Is there a fix to this or should I just live with it. My computer has been know to have boot failures in the distant past. Is this something worth risking? On an unrelated point, Rainbow Six Siege has been freezing up on my PC ever since I got it (IDK if that's something the BIOS update will fix, just one issue at a time) Also, could a BIOS update speed up boot/pc run time? Current version of BIOS: F5 Bios Update Page: Gigabyte Motherboards Support Thank you for your time in reading this and all the help you will provide, -Andrew

For some reason whenever I try to boot to windows, sometimes it fails. It doesn't blue screen or anything, it just stops, them my system restarts and goes through its POST again and then windows will boot properly. However it has now completely stopped booting correctly and only ever fails. It now says that I need to use a recover media to repair windows. I did that but the recover media will not boot on the computer and I have tried it on a different computer. When I tell it to force booting into my main drive it usually BSODs with the code irql_not_less_or_equal. Im so confused by this and I have no idea what could be wrong. I've exhausted my own knowledge at this point and any help will be extremely appreciated! motherboard: Asus Maximum VIII Gene Cpu:6700K Boot drive: 500gb Samsung M.2 RAM: 32gb corsair vengeance 1x16 and 2x8

Soo I heard that if u put no load on a psu and let it run it will kill itself. Why soo? And how much load should than be the minimum ? And what rail ?
