  1. I have a dell XPS 730x from 2009 and it has this weird problem I cant resolve, so when ever I click the power button/winows key and shutdown button to turn the computer off, the computer will automatically reboot. So now I decide to press power button while in bios loading screen(which should just shut the machine off), but instead it reboots again..... The last thing I could think of that I can do in order to turn the computer off was to hold the power button for 10 seconds and guess what, nothing, just reboots again. I disconnected the hard drive, 2 extra sticks of ram, front panel io (so I can short the power on) and again, nothing but still rebooting. someone please help, this is really annoying since I need to unplug the computer from the outlet and Im positive its not good for the computer.
  2. Hello! I built my first liquid cooled system some months back and everything has been running smoothly until recently. The Problem It started a few days ago when I specifically rebooted my computer specifically through the 'restart' function in the start menu as I was experiencing some strange mouse behavior unrelated to 3psw. Upon reboot into Windows (@ sign in) my keyboard and mouse were no longer illuminated obviously indicating before I even touched them that the USBs had failed. I couldn't sign in or reboot through the interface. I tried physically restarting, booting down and back up into safe mode / no nw, disconnecting the PSU until the power to the mobo drained and rebooting, etc.; all to no avail. I noticed that USBs (keyboard and mouse) worked fine in the BIOS, in which I checked all the USB settings as well. I don't have a Ps2 Mouse, however, was able to get a boot error message to prompt the reinstallation of windows without removing my files (only apps), I tried this before wiping the entire drive. Success! I had to reinstall all my applications but I had my files.... except now my entire desktop my invisible; wiped clean, yet accessible via 'File Explorer'... So I restart my computer to try and resolve this issue and now we're back at square one with the USB problem. How?? So I'll wipe the drive clean and reinstall a fresh OS from ISO. Done. Despite it being the long way I'm glad it's taken care of. Re-download everything and get to the end where I have to restart for some update and wouldn't you know it... USBs failing again. So now I've reinstalled (saving files; the short way) to regain functionality of my USBs (temporarily) while I write this in confusion. What could be causing this problem that is seemingly unassociated with everything software and hardware related? Tl;dr: My USBs keep failing upon system 'restart' specifically, and I've tried everything from unplugging them all, to wiping my drives and reinstalling my OS. Able to get functionally in the BIOS and full functionality after reinstalling OS, however, 'restart' will cause failure at some point. My system Storage = 250GB Samsung SSD / 1TB HDD Motherboard = Asus Maximus IX Code CPU = intel i7 7700k Graphics = GeForce 1080 FTW3 PSU = Seasonic Snow Silent 1050w RAM = 16GB (2x8GB) G.Skill TridentZ OS = Win10 Thank you all in advance! EDIT: Here are the things I've tried and the thing that seemed to finally work, despite only a single reply from this helpful community; 1. Restart computer 2. Update / Reinstall Bus drivers 3. Turn off Power Saver mode to Bus controller 4. Clean install of OS (several times; problem would fix, but only temporarily) 5. Update BIOS Firmware I believe #5 has done the trick. Let this be a reference for those with this issue in future. I will post back if this turns out NOT to be the solution.
  3. Hello i recently got a dell server e02s with 192gb ddr3 ecc with 2 xeon 6 cores. thare where 12 sticks of 16gb ddr3 in it and i hat a lot of 8gb ddr3 ecc laying around so i though to expend it. then i got a error message on the lcd screen saying "system fatal failure error E1410" and didnt boot not even showing the bios. Then i took all memory out but now it will disable Memory bank B3 and B6 and only gives my OS 160gb ddr3 ecc. although windows does reconize the 192gb that is in it expet 160 us usable. and i cant figre out what is hapening. i though it was memby the CPU so i took them both out and switch them over tto see if the memery slots would switch wich where disable. so no it still says B3 and B6 "CPU are exact the same" Server runs on windows server 2012. sorry fore my english, Thnx and advanced.
  4. Over the past weekend I made my first new build in about 4 years. Specs as follows: Windows 10 64-Bit Home i7-8700 ASUS Prime Z370-A 16 GB DDR4 2400 MHz I have 4 SSDs in total: m.2 NVMe SSD which is my main/boot drive. The other three are an array of Samsung SATA III's and I use them just as extra storage. My main SSD of the three has been causing problems, though. I had this drive for a year on my previous build and always worked fine. Last night it randomly was no longer detected in Windows. Restarted in BIOS and it wasn't detected there either after lagging up the boot process. I powered down and unplugged the power and data cables for this drive, and then plugged it back in. It was detected after that. It worked until just about 30 minutes ago. It was detected by Windows and BIOS, but when I went to open the drive for the actual files, it couldn't access the drive. Tried running a Chkdsk but it says it's now RAW, so A) this has to be wrong because I had it formatted about a year ago when I bought it and always worked fine, and B) even if it were actually RAW, I don't want to reformat it right now and risk losing tons of important data on it. I tried to restart the computer after this error and the computer just hung up on the motherboard's splash screen. Turned it off, unplugged the drive and the computer booted fine without it. Isn't this weird since it's 2nd in priority and not the boot drive? Just a few other things to mention: I've tried using different SATA III data ports on my motherboard with the other drives and they work fine, so it's clearly an isolated issue with this drive. In addition I've tried using other SATA power cable connectors with the other drives, and there is no issue with them either. The chipset and NVMe drivers are the latest offered by ASUS, Intel, and Samsung for their respective hardware. I'm using AHCI mode for SATA, and the m.2 is set to PCIe Gen 3X4 Does this sound like the drive is simply failing? If so, can I at least clone the data somehow if I can't re-access the drive? Thanks.
  5. Z270 Extreme Motherboard G.skill 16 gig stick x2 DDR4-3200 Intel I7-7700k EVGA 750W Bronze Power Supply EVGA GeForce Gtx 970 2 1TB HDD My computer broke down several months ago after a being off for a long time. It was failing pre-BIOS. It seemed the power supply wasn't delivering power to the 8-pin CPU connector. I replaced the power supply and then turning it back on lead to a puff of smoke from around the 8-pin connector. After that, I figured the motherboard has stopped supplying power to the cpu. So I replaced the motherboard. The result from that is a pre-BIOS failure to boot. The motherboard flashes on and off indefinitely, but it seemed the CPU was fried. So I replaced the CPU. The motherboard still flashes on and off, and there still seems either to be no power to the 8-pin connector or no activity from the CPU. At this point I'm just confused and frustrated because I have 0 post codes to go on, and 0 parts it could still be. Removing ram does not give a post code, and doesn't change anything. No fans spin and nothing else powers up. Pressing the start button does nothing and shorting the start pins does nothing. Below is a picture and a video. 20180104_002255.mp4
  6. Finished building my first computer, but the screen is just black with no signal. All the fans come on, the motherboard power LED comes on, and the motherboard aesthetic lights come on. I got it to work for a while earlier but it suddenly started doing this again. Part list: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/wHnd4C The SSD is from my old computer, everything else is new. The motherboard doesn't seem to have a system warning speaker but it does have 4 warning lights: Boot, VGA, DRAM, and CPU. So it wouldn't post. Here is a sort of log of things I tried after leaving battery out for 15 mins to restart CMOS, and some other tips found online: First the DRAM light was on. Tried 1 stick of ram in all slots and it didn't work so I bought new ram. The DRAM warning light didn't come up anymore. It still wouldn't post and the Boot warning light was now on. I removed 1 stick of ram and for some reason it worked and went to bios screen. This was with HDMI plugged into the motherboard, not the graphics card (tried both). Tried to install linux mint from a flash drive. Linux mint failed to install (Grub installation failed). Formatted the SSD and made new partitions and the install worked. It asked to restart and I picked yes. It restarted and stayed on a black screen with a blinking underscore for a few minutes until I manually restarted it (I probably should have waited). It started doing black screen with no signal again. Tried plugging hdmi in both graphics card and on board graphics, but there was no change. I don't remember seeing any warning lights at this point but I could be wrong. I unplugged the SSD from the motherboard and unplugged its power. Still no signal, but now the VGA warning light was on. Took the graphics card out and VGA warning light wasn't on anymore. *unknown things tried here* DRAM warning light was on. Took the ram out, turned it on and the light was still there. Took out everything except cpu, cpu cooler, fans, powersupply, motherboard(with built in graphics), and the case. DRAM warning light still came up. Put one stick of RAM back in and it started all the way to bios. But the boot warning light was on. Put linux USB flash drive in the motherboard usb. Wouldn’t post. Tried putting it in the case usb and got the same issue. Took the flash drive out and put the SSD back in. DRAM and CPU warning lights were slowly alternating. So seems like the RAM was bad and the harddrive was bad i guess? But if its saying the graphics card is bad too maybe its just the motherboard?
  7. I just built a new PC for one of my friends but ran into some trouble. I booted the PC up and everything was registered in the BIOS. I then proceeded to plug the Windows bootable USB drive into a USB 2.0 port and started the install. After I've chosen the drive on which to install Windows, it then completes the first step, but fails the second after 1%, and gives me this error code: 0x80070570. I've been digging around but have yet to find a solution. Does anybody know what to do? Parts: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/Q9n7kT
  8. Hey LTT, The Dell CPU fan from my Dell Optiplex 210L broke, so I removed it and added a fan wired to the PSU, which works fine. However, it still thinks the old fan is in their and gives an error message saying “Alert! CPU fan failure”. This means that every time I turn on the computer, I have to press F1. This is normally not a problem, but when I am using the PC as a server, I have to walk down 2 floors to press F1. How can I bypass this?
  9. So I put some cheap parts together for a shop computer for service manuals and whatnot, but I've got a very well used hard drive in there. CrystalDiskInfo says it's been powered on 410 times, but the powered on hours are over 65,000. How much am I kidding myself with this drive? It came out of an old file server at my office, and it was indeed on for years on end. It's an old Seagate 120gb drive. There's always musical hard drives where I buy a better drive for another nicer computer, and hand the older one down with a drive clone in there. I guess the other question is, there are Amazon and eBay sellers with 2009 manufacture sealed-up "new" drives for cheap, are those worth bothering with?
  10. My laptop is acting up lately. Almost everytime I use my laptop, it will freeze. During the freeze: -My mouse still moves. -Current task still works. eg. youtube video(but will hang after I click on a next video/refresh/back) -Task bar unresponsive -Ctrl + Alt + Del unresponsive until the com starts running again (which is only for a split second) -Apps unresponsive -Restart screen will hang for quite a while after I manages to reach the restart button I suspect that it is a CPU dying but I googled the symptoms of CPU failure the closest symptom is the freezing part. However, my mouse and the current task still works not like how the website describes a freeze(even mouse hangs). Has anyone encounter such problem? Thanks in advance!
  11. I have a refurbished 2TB Seagate Pipeline Hard Drive that failed after only 215 days since purchased. I believe that the files on the disks are OK, and that the problem is in the control board, or something similar. Drive was working fine one moment, then suddenly I was not able to access it. Then Windows started prompting me to format the drive to be able to use it. Needless to say, I have not formatted the drive. I can read the SMART info using SeaTools, and Recuvva let me see files on the HD. Nothing life-changing on the drive - just over 120 HD quality movies and a couple dozen multiple seasons of TV shows - it was about 75% full. I've pulled the drive from the system and will wait until I have some options for recovery before putting it back in. Any idea on how to get this drive up and running again without formatting would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
  12. I just install my Corsair H115i on my i7-7700k cpu. When I start my PC it shows CPU fan error. About 40s after turning on the CPU temper reaches 100 degrees. And PC automatically shutdown. 13. I really do not much about hard drives and Crystal Disk Info popped up with this error. I did some research on google and still I am clueless about what should I do. I have attached a screenshot of the scan.It would be great if anyone can help me out of this. Thanks
  14. So I tried to boot my Ryzen system off a live USB with Ubuntu 17.04 and It failed spectacularly, image attached showing the screen with some funky broken text. Anyone else had this issue? seen a few Ubuntu stability issues on Ryzen but nothing going wrong pre-installation of the OS. NOTE: boot drive is known go, booted my laptop successfully from it after the desktop failed.
  15. Hi guys. I built a PC in May of this year, which had been working fine until a few days ago. I left it on while I went out, and when I came back a few hours later, the PC was off. I tried booting it back up, and the fans came on and the mobo lit up, but there was no POST. The light on my backlit mouse came on for half a second and then went out. On the MSI mobo, the EZ Debug LED for CPU came on for five seconds, then went out for around ten, then came on for another five, and so on.I figured the problem was either the PSU, mobo, or CPU. The PSU seems to be fine, as I used a multimeter to find that all the voltages were good in the connectors. I then got a replacement mobo (same model) at MicroCenter, and I'm having the exact same issue. I've tried breadboarding, clearing the CMOS, and testing with one RAM stick in each slot, with no success. Everything seems to point to the CPU being the problem, but I've read that CPU failure is extremely rare.According to the Ryzen Master app, my temps were around 50-65 degrees Celsius while idle, but apparently it reports temps as being 20 degrees higher than they actually are, so my temps were actually less. Also, not sure if this is CPU-related, but I noticed that randomly, applications (whether it be Chrome or Skyrim or whatever) would completely freeze for like 10-20 seconds and then function as normal.Any help would be greatly appreciated. My parts:Motherboard: MSI X370 Gaming Pro CarbonCPU: AMD Ryzen 7 1700xCPU cooler: Noctua NH-L9x65 SE-AM4RAM: G.SKILL 16GB (2 x 8GB) Ripjaws V Series DDR4 PC4-19200 2400MHzGPU: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1060 WINDFORCE OC 6GSSD: PNY 240GB CS1111 internal 2.5 inch SATA III Value Solid State Drive PSU: EVGA 700 B1 100-B1-0700-K1 80+ BRONZECase: IN WIN GT1 White SECC Steel ATX Mid Tower
  16. I (Idiot) accidentally spilled soda on my computer and it messed it up and it won't turn on now. I'm suspecting that the motherboard died as it got severe amounts of liquid on it so what should I do now? I acted fast and wiped off most off the liquid that got into the PC. i don't think anything else has broken because they didn't get as much soda on them but who knows?? What's the best thing to do now? Any advice?!?
  17. Hello LTT community, Today I have come to you with my first dilemma that I have been unable to solve on my own. Recently I purchased a new power supply for my rig while I was out of town, and was very excited to get it setup when I got home. Unfortunately, I was very tired after a night of drinking, getting 5 hours of sleep, then driving for 5 hours. So I believe that there is a very good chance that my problem was due to user error but I cannot be for sure. So I get home and remove my old PSU, and hook up the new one. I plug everything in and boot up my pc. It starts as normal but then I soon realize that 3 of my hard drives are not recognized by the PC. I check the cables to make sure they're all plugged in - and they are. After a bit more investigating I realize that the drives are not even powering on. I try plugging them into different SATA connectors, and even into a different computer entirely and am unable to get the disks to produce any sign of life. I decided to remove the control board from one drive to look for burn marks, as the SATA power cable may have shorted them somehow. But I was unable to find anything that looked out of the ordinary. I ended up sacrificing the same drive and opened it up entirely to see if there was any visible damage inside the enclosure, which I was unable to find either. Does anyone have any other advice as to what may have happened to my drives? I refuse to believe that they are broken for good. There has to be something I can tweak, solder, or replace to get these guys up and running again! Thanks, Alamist
  18. I currently have a dual SLI 970 setup and recently I have been having an issue that is extremely annoying. When I am playing a game everything will be fine, stable fps, no stuttering, then all of a sudden I drop to 10 frames for about 15-20 seconds and then everything is fine again. This happens about once every 30-45 minutes. My temps seemed to be fine on the gpu(80). CPU temps are fine. Drivers are up too date. I'm not sure what it could be so any suggestions would be great. I do not have access to my PC until Friday night so I will not be able to test anything as of right now. All of my specs in my signature are up too date.
  19. I'd like to know what causes power supply failures (especially on generic power supplies) and under what circumstances will a burnt power supply damage other hardware? (e.g., if a psu was toasted due to overheating, will these potentially damage other hardware in my rig?)
  20. So I got an SSD a few days ago, Samsung 580 Evo 500GB. I cloned my old HDD to it and everything. After I formated the old drive, I moved most of the files back to it to save space on the SSD. Then I downloaed SSDLife to see what's up, and BAM ( not a bus). It's showing a ridiculous amount of data written to it. After 4 days of having it, it has already over 1400gb written to it. Okay, the cloning was about 450 and I installed GTA a couble of times but still. Yesterday it had 79gb written on it in ONE day. I didn't do any of it, just gaming and browsing. As of last night (12 am) it has already written 20gb into it. So what the F**K is that about?I tried monitoring with SSDReady and I see constant activity in idle, which is normal of course but I can't see the amount of data written. Any ideas?
  21. When I turned on the computer I instantly noticed that the monitor had some kind of issue, on the blacks the monitor renders this (see file attached) but then, when an image which requires backlighting or has brighter colors on, it fades out the "image", but it is still slightly visible. I was wondering what is going on with my monitor, it was not like that when I left it earlier this morning. This is not a reflection if not you would see me taking the pictures. It does it even when the video in (hdmi) is not plugged so that rules out the gpu as being the cause. And the two other monitors i have on the other side work just fine. plis help Other specs: Display: HP 2311xi GPU: Gigabyte G1 GTX 1070 8G
  22. Specs: Motherboard: GA-Z270XP-SLI CPU: Intel i5-7600K RAM: 1x Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 2400MHz PSU: EVGA BRONZE 80 PLUS 500W Graphics Card: EVGA ACX 3.0 GTX1070 SC Cooler: Cryorig M9i The PC is newly assembled and won't post (Monitor says "No Signal"). The CPU and DRAM LEDs on the board light up alternately, indicating something's wrong. When the power is pressed, lights go on and the fans spin. The beep code is repeated 2-second long beeps which continue for about 4.5 beeps until the PC shuts down on its own. It restarts on its own after a few seconds and the process repeats. I can only suspect there is something wrong with the RAM but I'll have to obtain a new stick to test it, which I don't yet have.
  23. Since last week my Athlon 860k build has been acting a bit weird. In the 20th of may the build was infected with a virus that caused it have constant memory errors. So i formated all of my drives and installed a brand new version of windows 10 pro, updated to creators update. In the same day i kept getting random BSODS, when i would use the peek function on full screen applications, but that stopped. I also ran 4 pases of memtest on the 25th ( came out clean).Yesterday on the 26th i was watching youtube on two tabs and then most of the browser tabs crashed along with opera itself (this also happed last week as well) and was gaming for 3 hours and it Blue Screened. So this morning i ran a combination of aida 64 and unigene valley and for some reason the cpu was not being stressed at 100% so i downloaded intel burn test and ran it simultaneously with valley. Ran fine for 20 minutes however on the aida stressed test screen the cpu was not being pinned at 100% and i checked intel burn test and a notification from the app appeared saying that there was system instability and then the system immediately crashed. Are these signs of cpu, memory or motherboard failure? P.S Temps were in the low 60's Here are the specs of the build: PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant CPU: AMD - Athlon X4 860K 3.7GHz Quad-Core Processor (Purchased For $80.00) CPU Cooler: Corsair - H100i GTX 70.7 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler (Purchased For $100.00) Motherboard: ASRock - FM2A88X-ITX+ Mini ITX FM2+ Motherboard Memory: Kingston - HyperX Fury Red 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1866 Memory (Purchased For $60.00) Storage: Transcend - SSD370 256GB 2.5" Solid State Drive (Purchased For $80.00) Storage: Hitachi - Travelstar 5K1000 1TB 2.5" 5400RPM Internal Hard Drive (Purchased For $0.00) Video Card: Gigabyte - GeForce GTX 970 4GB G1 Gaming Video Card (Purchased For $369.99) Case: Phanteks - Enthoo EVOLV ITX Mini ITX Tower Case (Purchased For $80.00) Power Supply: Corsair - Builder 500W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply (Purchased For $50.00) Total: $819.99 Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available Generated by PCPartPicker 2017-05-27 08:16 EDT-0400
  24. So, My desktop, Saphira, has some misterious issues where it won't boot without discharging and will chrash when put under extreme loads. so I thought. oke PSU is to blame.SO I borrow my friends 550W Adata PSU and test it out. now, what you should know is that my PSU has two 5v out leads which have to power a GTX560Ti, a WD 1TB hard drive, a Kingston 120GB SSD and a diskdrive. I have the HDD and SSD on one lead and the diskdrive on the other. the GPU power is divided over the two leads. this shoul in theory work just fine. oke so now, what happened is the following: I tested the Adata, (which by the way, didn't solve the issue) and reverted the system to my corsair 600W. when I restarted the system however, It wouldn't boot because there was no boot device available, except for the diskdrive. after some trouble shooting, it turned out that my HDD and SSD had been fried, but the diskdrive and GPU were just fine. Has anybody got a clue what happened? I'd really like to know.
  25. Whats going on guys, short and snappy - My motherboard is a Asus Maximus VIII Formula. Simply, i have had two HDD's/SSD's break inside the space of a week whilst using this motherboard. I would really like any help/troubleshooting tips, ideas, knowledge GOD DAMN IT LINUS HELP ME! Okay, scenario 1) 500Gb sandisk II SSD installed, all working fine for about a week then suddenly caput, nothing - nothing in disk management, nothing in bios etc etc. thats gone back to sandisk for them to replace under warranty. No - This SSD did not work/picked up on any other system, i tried two friends systems and was not detected. MEANWHILE: a friend lent me his samsung evo 850 250gb... this worked fine for 2 weeks and is still working fine as i come onto scenario 2 (no im not keeping/ buying his hdd) Scenario 2) took the 3TB hdd from a working system and took the same working system PSU. New PSU installed (thought this may be the issue) all plugged in fine and nothing no spinning from my 3TB HDD which was working before. i cannot feel the platters spinning (no power maybe? mobo fried it?) so, moved it to my system and ASUS mobo and instantly no response from the HDD. Again, no - plugged it into friends systems and nothing. also - cannot feel the HDD spinning also - plugged it back into the original system, with a new psu to see if the old mobo etc would revive it for whatever reason and no - nothing at this point i also now have a 500gb m.2 ssd installed in my system and its working absolutely fine started up first time etc. Just to let you know i have tried it in different ports, and different cables etc. please help me i do not want to keep shelling out ££$$ for hdd's for them to be sub sequentially shot - any ideas on bios? any ideas on psu? any ideas on mobo? is it even possible for the sata port to fry a hdd/ssd? Cheers guys - a lost man.
