  1. Last night my power cut out, afyer waking up this morning I fired up my pc. It then took forever to start (I have the boot set to a WD 250gb solid state) it lbooted then moving around any files were every slow (on the 1tb WD not the ssd). I then figured restarting my pc would help it if not, I'd run ccleaner. It rused to boot, it tried to "repair" the drive, if then failed and said it found nothing wrong. After gojng through command prompt, it found nothing wrong with my drives, no bad sectors. I then tried a reset and neither reset option worked. My pc refused to boot in safe mode or any other cautionary mode. I have not had the opportunity to reset the system image, but I dont have another device to download an image, Monday I will be able to. Anyones ideas or suggestions are appreciated. Thanks. System Specs: CPU: AMD Athalon 5600 GPU: Asus GTX 750TI Motherboard: MSI 470X Gaming OpSys: Windows 10 Pro 64bit RAM: 14GB: 2 sticks of 4GB HyperX, 1 BallistX stick, and 1 random stick(Not sure what no stickers or plates) Storage: 1 WD Blue 250 GB SSD, 1 TB WD Blue HDD PSU: ThermalTake 850Watt RGB 80+ Gold Modular PSU Cooling: ThermalTake FloeRing 360 280mm premium TT edition.
  2. I'm having an issue where by my computer will not display anything to the monitors. No access to BIOS. Motherboard speaker is installed. With everything installed I got a solid DRAM light with no beeps, no post, and no display. Tried the MemOK process. No change. I then tried different RAM configurations (both individually/together and in different slots/combinations), ending up with just 1 RAM stick installed following the User Manual. This resulted in a singular beep, a solid boot_device_led and the CPU fan speed reducing to idle. GPU fans are going as well. I know the keyboard works because I am able to CTL+Alt+Del to restart the computer at this point. I've tried both GPUs together and separately as well as connecting directly to the motherboard HDMI/VGA ports. I have tried removing devices one-by-one, until ultimately ending up with only the 1 RAM stick, and the CPU. No hard drive, or GPU plugged at all. I've attempted re-seating all power connectors, all peripheral connectors, removing CMOS battery, jumping the CLRTC jumper, etc. Everything in this configuration, save for the Z170-PRO, is confirmed functioning as I'm combining parts from my old PC (GPU, all SATA drives, peripherals) and another functioning PC I received (CPU/Fan, RAM, PSU, however using a H110 motherboard). Both donor computers booted and ran without issues immediately before the Frankenstein build. I want to rule out everything before making a claim on the Z170-Pro as I purchased it used. (I know I took a risk buying a used motherboard on ebay.) Build: -Asus Z170-Pro (unknown BIOS version) -Intel Core i5 6400 -Samsung 2x 8GB 2133mhz DDR4 -be quiet Pure Power 10 600W Modular -2x Palit GTX 960 SC 2GB in SLI -Samsung 840 Pro 256GB SATA SSD (OS Drive from previous build running current Windows10 build) -WD Black 500GB m.2 2280 NVMe (Blank, planned to become new OS drive) -Samsung 850 EVO 1TB SATA SSD (Game Drive) -WD Blue 3D 1TB SATA SSD(Media Drive) -WD Green 2TB SATA HDD (Backup Drive) -TP Link Archer AC1300 PCI WIFI Adapter -Logitech K120 USB Keyboard -Logitech M150 Bluetooth Mouse -2x Dell 23" 1680×1050 Dual DVI-D
  3. Hi Everyone! So I'm trying to rescue a 1TB hard drive I had lying around of the house in order to used as a BackUp drive in raid 1. The drive was apparently dead so I took a closer look at the PCB and noticed that one of the chips was clearly fried. So I ordered one PCB and swapped the BIOS, and now it does spin and makes some clicking noises I recorded: To be honest, I accidentally lose one resistor near the BIOS... two times so I swapped it with one of the same board (Not from the donor one cause I lose it too) and because I forgot to do the measure, I don't even know if the resistor has the same ohms I have opened and recorded drive working: So I need to know if this problem is because of that resistor or because something else is wrong The PCB serial is: 2060-701640-002 REV A and the resistor I lost was the one placed at R61 Thank you very much in advance! 4. I installed the new card after DDU, all seemed fine until I got the brilliant idea of setting PUBG to maximum ultra settings and the PC shut off. Okay no worry it might been a bug? Trying to start and it was just blinking until I pressed the PSU switch and then it stopped blinking and it was on again, ok lets try again and 3 minutes after rejoining it happened again... Okay? I then repeated what I did earlier and reduced settings and to be sure set the GPU profile to power saving mode, so I overloaded the PSU? What does blinking light of doom mean? PLZ TELL, LTT CREW & FANS YOU ARE MY ONLY HOPE! O3O My guess is I overlaoded the PSU? :3
  5. Occasionally I notice a strange glitchy effect on my TV screen (which I use for my PC). It occurs seemingly randomly, and doesn't appear to be linked to gaming or other demanding processes. This artifacting looks like your stereotypical glitchy effect screen seen in movies i.e. screen tearing; white dotted lines/matrix etc. This has been happening over the past 6 months and I think it's getting worse. What could be causing this? My first guess was GPU failure, but surely it would have died already? And gaming doesn't seem to trigger the artifacting. My TV is really old now, perhaps it's that? Any help is appreciated
  6. Hi all, I've had a client who's NAS died and all the data was lost, we've replaced the NAS and they're all up and running but it turns out one of the machines (Windows 8.1) kept offline copies of the old NAS that we're still able to access, I've been slowly restoring files from the offline files to the new NAS but it's very slow as it's only letting me do a sub folder at a time (Folder 1 is a large folder with over 900 sub-folders) I'm guessing this is due to file size limits as sometimes I have to go into the individual sub-folders and copy the files one by one. Is there any faster way to do this?
  7. So my friends PC has been having some trouble. He stayed at his dads house for a week, leaving his PC at his mothers house, turned off, which was the last time it was working fine, but when he came back it wouldn't run. It started by making it to windows but then crashing with various crash reports. Then it wouldn't even turn on, it would start up and the fans would spin, then they'd stop. Recently I've gotten it to turn on and about 80% of the time it makes it to post, but then after a bit, or even during the post it will crash. Very rarely does it even reach windows anymore, and whenever I try to do something in "windows repair mode" I can't even run one task without it locking up or crashing! I've reset the CMOS, re-seated the ram and GPU, and tested the PSU...I think I've narrowed it down to a bad Windows installation, bad hard drive, or bad motherboard, but I'm not entirely sure.. please help me out!!! His specs: Ryzen 5 1500x, 8gb gskill ripjaw ram, GTX 1050 Ti.... (Posted from Reddit)
  8. Hi, about a week ago my computer started acting weird when i ran "intensive" graphical programs (games). Whenever I try to play a game it freezes for about 1 min, goes black screen and back to the game. Also sometimes i get these white and black checkers patterns on my screen. I've tried unistalling my with DDU drivers and reinstalling them. I've also checked temperature and it's not overheating while playing games.
  9. So I had the Insyde F.53 bios installed and my laptop wouldn't shut off correctly (I would hit the windows key and select shutoff, my fans would go full speed and the power light would stay on until I hold it and shut it off manually). So I updated the bios to Insyde F.55 and I still have the problem. Should I go back to an earlier version of Insyde, if so, which version? Driver versions here: https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-envy-15-k000-notebook-pc/6936206/model/7174348?sku=G7Z03AV New Text Document.txt
  10. So recently I had my old PSU blow up [Thermaltake 650W] and it took my Gigabyte Z97MX-Gaming 5 with it, loved that board but I had spare parts lying around so now I put in a new PSU [Thermaltake 500W] and a ASRock Fatal1ty Z97 Killer. My full system specs are in a file attached to this post [Before PSU Died] My only recent changes were adding a Corsair H60 water cooler and installing my old 950 as a 2nt HDMI port [and using it for only PhysX for the one game that uses it] So onto my real issues: My system tends to randomly crash with both GPUs displaying a black or glitchy screen, nothing will open as it seems to crash Windows 10 too, forcing me to reset, my ASRock takes around 7-8 mins to boot into Windows, I don't really have a good idea for the boot time other than a really bad SATA cable but the GPU's glitching [without any OVK] is worrying me, if theres any pointers you can give me, id be glad to try them, right now I am going to use DDU and uninstall my drivers and reinstall them. 11. Soo I heard that if u put no load on a psu and let it run it will kill itself. Why soo? And how much load should than be the minimum ? And what rail ?
  12. For some reason whenever I try to boot to windows, sometimes it fails. It doesn't blue screen or anything, it just stops, them my system restarts and goes through its POST again and then windows will boot properly. However it has now completely stopped booting correctly and only ever fails. It now says that I need to use a recover media to repair windows. I did that but the recover media will not boot on the computer and I have tried it on a different computer. When I tell it to force booting into my main drive it usually BSODs with the code irql_not_less_or_equal. Im so confused by this and I have no idea what could be wrong. I've exhausted my own knowledge at this point and any help will be extremely appreciated! motherboard: Asus Maximum VIII Gene Cpu:6700K Boot drive: 500gb Samsung M.2 RAM: 32gb corsair vengeance 1x16 and 2x8
  13. Hello and thank you for helping me out with this issue I'm having here. So recently my computer has struggled with boot up with the occasional blue screen for a few seconds before windows loads, and the desktop not loading forcing a restart. Also, the time spent in BIOS seems to have increased, it has gone from 30s to about 300s. (That's alarming since I have windows installed on a SSD) I then decided to take a look in the start up applications in the task manager and disabled the ones I don't need (see attached image), and that did nothing to help the startup time. In fact it might have taken longer. Here are my specs: Gigabyte Ultra Durable GA-Z170-HD3P Motherboard (Has UEFI DualBios) CPU- Intel Core i7-6700k @ 4.00GHz GPU(If needed)- Nvidia GTX 1080 RAM - 32 GB Windows version - 1709 Build - 16299.371 So after reading this here is my obvious question: Is there a fix to this or should I just live with it. My computer has been know to have boot failures in the distant past. Is this something worth risking? On an unrelated point, Rainbow Six Siege has been freezing up on my PC ever since I got it (IDK if that's something the BIOS update will fix, just one issue at a time) Also, could a BIOS update speed up boot/pc run time? Current version of BIOS: F5 Bios Update Page: Gigabyte Motherboards Support Thank you for your time in reading this and all the help you will provide, -Andrew
  14. There were rumors that the 2017 Macs had a slightly different keyboard design but I have never tested one out before and was never compelled to care about the 2017 model as they were just almost unnoticeable refreshes. It would appear though that those machines also addressed an issue that Apple knew about internally......bad keyboards. Just some background on how they conducted their testing. So essentially this is where the "twice as much" comes from. While 12% is high in the context of consumer electronics, it is not as bad as many of claimed it to be on platforms such as Reddit. 12% is, imo, not acceptable from a company like Apple and I am hoping for free/cheap keyboard replacements for the life of the machine or some sort of recall program. Building machines with a spotty keyboard when I played $1,250 (Thanks Presidents Day sale) for this machine is not cool. 2017 machines seem to be a lot better at the moment but data is still not complete as stated. With the significant improvement if enough people complain we might be able to get a "Keyboard Replacement Program" for the 2016 MacBook Pros. I agree, I love my 2016 MacBook Pro. High Sierra 10.13.4 has some issues but that is software, but the 2016 Macs themselves have minor problems. 2016 MacBooks creek sometimes, the 13" models can have their batteries fail (there is a free replacement program which may or may not replace your keyboard as well since they remove the entire top assembly), and now it is confirmed that the keyboards in them are prone to failure. Given the irreparable nature of the 2016 MacBook Pros keyboard, the only way I can see Apple making this right it to launch a program like the ones I described earlier. I will be holding off any MacBook Pro recommendations until Apple releases a statement on this issue Source: https://appleinsider.com/articles/18/04/30/2016-macbook-pro-butterfly-keyboards-failing-twice-as-frequently-as-older-models
  15. The other day I was using defraggler and noticed my Hard Drive was displaying a Warning next to health, I'm planning on replacing the drive soon anyways, but recently my boots into windows have been slow. My hard drive is my secondary drive, I have a 256 Samsung SSD as my boot drive, another 256 Samsung SSD as my Steam Library and my HDD has all my older games and documents, movies, projects, etc on it. So no system files at all on my HDD. Today i booted into windows, installed an update and restarted and I was stuck in my bios screen, i restarted again and no luck. So i took out my HDD assuming it was the issue and sure enough, I booted to Windows. So I reinstalled my HDD and its showing in my bios with no issues, but I cant load into windows with it. I disabled it in my bios and again it boots to windows but i'd like to be able to use my drive if possible, even if its only for a bit to copy my files to a new HDD. Is there anyway around this issue
  16. I want to start out with my credentials, I have been building and fixing pc's for a little over 5 years, and build in the neighborhood of 200 systems... That said, I have never seen such a stubborn pc... My personal rig is going insane... I think. Specs: i5-7600k @ 5GHZ Asus Z270i Gaming Corsair H100i V2 16gb Corsair vengance 3200mhz ddr4 Gtx 770 (yes I still use it) Intel 140gb SSD 240 series 2tb Seagate baracuda Phanteks Evolv Shift X Now that all that is out of the way, we can get to the meat and potatos... Problem 1: the pc will "at times" refuse to boot from the GPU, and I will need to remove it, and use the integrated graphics for 1 boot, then the GPU will work fine "problem does not occur with other GPU's, and is random" ~problem began after transferring to new case Problem 2: the pc refuses to boot when a 1tb Seagate baracuda drive is plugged in "one I need to recover data from" even if it is explicitly turned off as a boot option... the little Windows rings will just spin around in circles forever if it is plugged in. ~as soon as I unplug the drive it boots on 2 seconds flat Problem 3: the system "when it booted the first time" while the 1tb drive is installed, will after a short time crawl to a stop and not work until rebooted... which it never did If anyone out there can take this little scrap of info and help me out I would greatly appreciate it
  17. So about a year or so ago a guy came into the store I work at and asked if we could build his new system for him? We said yes and so he brought in the parts that he had ordered. Now it's not uncommon around this area for college students that want a nice computer but have a budget to go out and order parts to build a system themselves without fully grasping how hard it could be to build the system(Relative to skill and understanding) We normaly charge about one and a half to two hours labor to do a build for a customer depending on the complexity of the build and/or the OS or software that they want loaded. In this guys case(No pun intended) we had to charge two hours labor for the build because... well here's the pictures of his parts off my Instagram Now as you can see that's one heck of a parts list. This is the kind of list I imagine gets made by going on PC Parts Picker and picking close to if not the most expensive parts on a platform. At the time of the build it was the single most expensive system by parts value I had ever worked on. Please forgive my pining for his system specs. Given the point of this post I have no regrets having my system and not his... Okay now that the intro is over, here's the deal. This build was done just as the EVGA 1080FTW ACX Thermal problems came to light and the Mass Recall stuff went down and wouldn't you know it, that's a pair of effected and there for theoretically Faulty 1080's. The customer had just picked the system up the day before the first videos hit YouTube about the situation and I said to myself, "If that guy watches any of this he's going to freak out..." Sure enough about a week later we get a call from the guy asking if he could bring the cards to us so we could take them apart and install the EVGA Thermal Pad Kits for him because he doesn't want to RMA his new cards and risk getting back different faulty cards... Well we said no because we don't want to risk damaging product that we didn't sell(I've taken GPU's apart many times and would do it for my own card in a heart beat but no way am I risking it with a customer part...) when EVGA would cover all the cost of shipping the cards to them to get the pads installed by them. The customer relented and sent the cards to EVGA and all was well until today. Today the customer came in and told me how, after about 6 months, one of the graphics cards had failed. He RMA'd the card and all was well until again just yesterday another GPU failed. Well he thinks it's the GPU given where the magic blue smoke came from. He opted to bring it in so that we could diagnose the problem. If it's just another faulty GPU, the cards have warranties and EVGA is damn good with dealing with RMA's. If it turns out his PSU some how was killing his GPU's, or the Mobo has a fault or what ever the case may be otherwise, then we will be able to diagnose and deal with it for him. This guy spent close to $3,000 on this computer and factoring in GPU values it's worth more now then it was when he built it. I fell for the guy and want to help him out I just hope that his problem is just the GPU. We don't have any PSUs larger then an EVGA 750GQ in stock so if it's a PSU then he's stuck RMA'ing his Corsair unit or waiting for a larger one to be ordered in(It's got a good warranty too so RMA is only logical) If it's the motherboard, well we have an ASUS Prime Z270-A in stock we can drop in that will work, but it will make his ROG Head unit worthless unless he again opts to RMA the motherboard(Again Warranties are nice to have) Well that's the situation all. This guy has himself a beast of a gaming rig and it's had one GPU go out on him in the past year with what looks to be a second(And no I didn't get clarification if this one is the one that came back from EVGA after the first one failed.) What do you all think? Is it going to be the GPU again? Is it something else that's contributing to killing the GPU's? Or is this guy just running some crypto mining in the background of his computer cooking the GPUs? Honestly as he said this failure happens while he was browsing the web and not gaming makes me think he may have been mining via that browser based mining script...
  18. Hi Guys, I have a one TB WD Passport HDD which is not working. When I plug it in, the icon does show up but the moment I click on it my explorer hangs up. The second I unplug the drive the PC is working again fast as ever. Here is the stuff I tried: 1. Ran check disk via CMD... doesn't work. The windows just doesn't respond. 2. Ran SFC ... nothing no response. 3. Booted Linux tried to mount ..nothing happens. 4. Booted into GParted, it keeps loading doesn't respond. 5. At least 5 different hard drive "scanning tools" don't detect the HDD either. They keep loading. The drive is spinning I can hear it and no clicking sounds either. I have plugged it into another PC, same response. In fact the one I plugged it in earlier is a brand new core i7 8700k with a nvme SSD and 16 gigs of lpx vengeance 3000 ram. I can rule out malware as Linux will have filtered it out (I think). The hard drive is spinning so it's not a broken header( I hope). This drive has fairly sensitive data. but I don't really have the dough to shell out 500 bucks for an HDD repair. Best Regards, Kaladin Stormblessed! P.S...
  19. So I have to ask if anyone here has had this level of BS come up at any time in their tech lives: So I work at a small computer store and through the past few months with the GPU Shortages we have had maybe 6 GTX1060's in store to sell. One of the 1060's was sold to a guy that came back the next day saying it was DOA. We tested it and what do you know it was. No I told my manager that the Customer should do the RMA himself, but the Manager wanted to see if we could do it via our Wholesaler and not threw ASUS. This was around the time that news of the big box stores Stopping In Store RMA/Exchanges because of Lack of Stock mind you. So against my recommendations we took the card back in and after almost a MONTH!!! It comes back "FIXED"(I don't know the details of the RMA whether it was done via ASUS or our Wholesaler mind you). We give it back to the customer and all is well for a time... Fast forwared to Today "4/5/18" the guy came in with the card because it started failing AGAIN. This time he says the card ramps up its fans and the screen goes black. At some point along the lines two FAN Blades had Snapped Off and he brought them in with the card expecting US to do the RMA for him again. Again I told my Manager that The Customer should do the RMA himself, and again my Manager said we would take it in. This time I was so mad I got up and walked away and made him take it in. I got a dressing down for this fact, but I have had it with this BS. This GPU has been RMA'd once before, it's got a Broken Fan and the guy thinks We can get it Replaced? I feel bad for the guy, he paid the $350 for the card and I've never had a GPU fail like this before but this time the card has Physical Damage. How are we meant to RMA it? I can't even trust to test it because the Fan's our out of balance.... Well that's my rant all. Hope your day is going better then mine. At least I got to build my first Mini-ITX system today. Check out my Instagram if you want to see it.
  20. I have a 2007 hp pavillion a6238x that had 2gb of ram then I later swapped it out for 8gb of ram. Then it also had an Intel Core 2 Duo e4500 that I swapped out with a Intel Core 2 Duo e8500. The computer turns on no weird noises or any differences it seems to work just fine, but it displays nothing besides no source signal. Please help.
  21. So.. I've been holding off on asking this because it seemed like something minor, but now it's gotten to the point of no return. I have an ASUS Z9PA-U8 server motherboard running a xeon e5 2620, 16gb ddr3 (@1333mhz, ECC), powered by a new RM650x psu and running server 2016. The issue I am having is that the server will be running fine, with good temps and no indication of problems, followed by an abrupt power failure and restart. In event viewer, this is identified by event 41 ("The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first"). The problem here, is that there are no other errors that go with it to indicate what is going on before or after (i.e. stop error bugcheckcode). To make matters even more confusing, poking random parts, like trying to remove the VGA connector to disconnect the monitor, causes power failure. I have updated to the most recent bios, and the memory and CPU are on the QVL. I also have no random USB devices connected and only the one boot drive. This is a pretty expensive MOBO.... any ideas?
  22. My PC started having some issues since yesterday noon. My HDD's weren't in file explorer and a lot of windows applications didn't work (disk manager, services, task planner and probably more). I've tried many things and there hasn't been a fix yet. There are 2 things that I think could've caused this:1. I tried turning off my HHD's with Revosleep and HDDscan. These didn't work 100% since my HHDs turned back on every time. I also set the HDD sleep time to never, 0 and 20 minutes afterwards and nothing happened.2. A windows update which was faulty3. A virus (I have my pc on 24/7 since last week mining with Nicehash and Electroneum mining pool)The HDDs are seen in the biosIf I open windows troubleshooter I get 2 problems: HDD1 not found and HHD2 not found. If I click further to solve this windows cant solve it. I already tried recovering my boot drive (SSD) and scanning it in cmd, nothing.I made a new user with admin privilages. This user CAN use all the windows applications like disk manager and services! I opened up disk manager, but the HDDs weren't there Really need help, I read on another forum it might be a rootkit virus (not much knowledge about virusses)specs:R5 1600, GTX 1060, 16 GB RAM, Asus B350 prime plus, 2 WD Blue HHDs, 1 WD green SSD, No other antivirus then windows defender.
  23. Hi all, I want to install CUDA 8.0 on my GTX 1060 GB. When I download the Nvidia drivers from their website and run it, everything seems fine. But then the screen goes black during the installation. I have waited a long time and it hasn't come back on. The PC is still on but no graphics. What do you suggest? Thanks
  24. So i was moving some files (not os related) from the c drive to the d drive and i went to open a word document and an error message came up saying word couldnt start, now whenever i boot up it goes to the desktop then restarts again! Whats happening and how can i fix it? Laptop is a dell precision m6700 with windows 7 pro
  25. After installing a new CPU cooler my right two RAM slots DIMM B1 and DIMM B2 stopped working. Having any memory in those slots causes my PC to fail to post, the red DRAM LED on my ASUS Sabertooth Z77 board lights up. The A1 and A2 slots work fine. Upon inspecting the motherboard during troubleshooting, the CPU socket looks intact with no noticeable bent pins. But I definitely see scratches on back of the motherboard, likely from when I was trying to get out the stupid stock Intel cooler that was stuck... Attached is a photo. It looks like they're fairly deep... Does the issue look like it'd be caused from the scratches or should I re-check the CPU socket again?
