I actually find this hilarious but at the same time appalling that Zuck would do such a thing. What if I'm a Facebook exec and I'd love to FaceTime and iMessage my family members and don't want to use Google Hangouts? It’s fascinating to hear that behind the scenes Zuckerberg was allegedly so angry about Cook’s comments that he forced his management team to abandon their iPhones and pick up Android smartphones. Well Apple makes money not from ads but from devices (Macs, iPhones, iPads) and services (iTunes). So I can see why Apple might charge more but I don't really get as to why Zuck said the one in bold for one, they don't sell any hardware and secondly, using Facebook is free. It's not like Facebook has any control to Google Play services. Facebook tried many times to enter the phone business by partnering with Android OEM's like HTC to make Facebook phones [here][here] but they suck. While it's true that Apple made devices are expensive, same can be said with their competitors so I guess this action by Mark Zuckerberg is out of frustration.

Facebook got hacked big time today. In a response, Facebook invalidated 50 Million access tokens as a precaution. from FB's own blog Looks like a major attack on facebook and the data of its users. Stealing data from ~50 million users is not a small task. The scale is pretty huge and might indeed hint at company espionage or foreign governments. As a result, facebook set back the access tokens to those accounts leading to people being forced to relogin. This basically affects other accounts that use facebook for authentication as well. 50 million accounts were hit, but for safety reasons, facebook set back the tokens of 40 million additional accounts. It doesn't seem like there's much of a fix so I'm just wondering if anybody else has the problem of the messenger app pinging you with notifications when you don't have any notifications. Every time I open a conversation it does between 1-5 notification sounds. Every time I open messenger after stopping the app it does anywhere between 5-10 notification sounds. I used to think this was because of unread messages in the past, but I went through and opened every conversation that had an unread message and it still does it. edit: THANKS FOR ANY HELP!

TL:DR - Google doesn't put camera on it's home hub, facebook makes a video chat screen that follows you around the room... I'm starting with Facebook, because we don't expect privacy from facebook, this story doesn't surprise me To me this is creepy. Sure the concept makes sense for making video calls and the technology is nice, no doubts there. What bothers me and surely will bother most is the company in charge of it. Facebook is not known for being an advocate of data security and privacy. If almost anyone else launched a product like this, we'd debate the cost value, worry about the signal getting hacked by home robbers and others, but we'd not be worried as much about the company launching it. We would assume if it was used for bad, it would be by "bad guys". But coming from facebook, I sincerely worry devices like these could be used to analyze stuff in your house and recommend things to buy, allow law enforcement a camera in every home with facial recognition, etc. This really worries me. It does come with a clip on privacy shield, but the people who would be concerned enough about privacy to use it probably are too concerned about privacy to buy it in the first place. Also, a camera cover means nothing for the microphone. To hear both sides of the story, I'm putting FB's comments about it, though I don't buy it for a second There's some other minor details and reassurances from FB PR teams in the article, but i neither buy them nor care for the sentiments they give. One main reason is the timing. If they are so worried about privacy and people trusting them, why now? They are mid data breach scandal right now, they have been constantly in the press for one privacy issue or another, including many political issues. Why is now the time they chose to make and launch this thing? I believe it's because they think they will sell enough to people who don't think as much about privacy and can get away with it. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if we heard stories of these things leaving cameras and mics on even after disabling them. I may be wrong on their intentions and what will happen, but this is still awful timing. On To Google: We may joke around about them being the unofficial leaders of the world, but relative to other large tech companies, Google is relatively clean of scandals or privacy concerns. besides the android location thing, google is mostly, you get what you sign up for. Which is why I give them kudos for making the decision in this climate to put out a smart home hub with no cameras at all (that we know of, illuminati not quite confirmed XD). And of course the alexa dot doesn't have a camera either, but for the price, the size and function of the device, and all the other features, I'm sure none of us would have been surprised if this came with a camera. If google had launched this with a camera, some would have been skeptical but most would just see another smart home device, again assuming that any bad outcome would be instigated by a "bad guy" somewhere. Most would have passed by without a second thought. Their intentional choice to leave the feature off speaks good for the company. not that this lets them off the hook for being our overlords, but I'm far less concerned for the moment that our google overlords are watching us in our bedrooms. That last statement is the most telling, not only about the companies, but about the consumers who continue to buy these devices, regardless of all the privacy concerns. We are heading towards a point where privacy is a right we frequently hand over in search of convenience without a second thought. It's concerning to me as a father of 4 kids who will grow up in this world whether I like it or not. I don't doubt google will eventually have cameras and mics in every home as well, but their hesitation to do so right now gives me hope that they have more foresight and sense than we sometimes give them credit for.

Facebook rolled a redesign a year ago, it was promised that it'll be rolled out to everyone by September. It's now September 10 and I STILL don't have the New Facebook Layout. Does anybody know how I can switch to the new layout?

Hey everyone, sorry that my first post here has to be troubleshooting but I'm eager to check out the rest of the forum. I was infected with a script that gained access to my facebook and @live.be recovery account and as such I'm locked out of both. I had some contacts on facebook that I can't reach in any other way and cannot find anymore, so I'd like to get access to my account again. First the obvious, repealing the disabling of my account of facebook requires me to upload my ID, after submitting they state I'll receive an e-mail. Then comes the trouble, my microsoft e-mail account's password has been reset and the recovery mail has been changed to "st*****@getnada.com", which obviously isn't mine. Trying to submit the form for microsoft keeps failing and lists the wrong e-mail address when I'm getting a reply. The stolen e-mail: je*****@live.be, the reply from Microsoft's system; We recently received a request to recover your Microsoft account st*****@hotmail.com. Unfortunately, our automated system has determined that the information you provided was not sufficient for us to validate your account ownership. Microsoft takes the security and privacy of our customers very seriously, and our commitment to protecting your personal information requires that we take the utmost care in ensuring that you are the account owner. Strange that they take utmost care when it's the legitimate creator trying to gain access but exploits are easily gaining access. I see no way in which I can contact facebook support (does it exist?), Microsoft's support will get me through with their customer support that also can't help me. Does any of you have a different angle to this?

Both the Data protection Agency and the Anti Trust Agency deny talks. Its unclear wether they are pressured by a german agency, its anticipatory obedience or purely out of spite. The Hamburg data protection officer(HmbBfDI), after being asked by "heise.de" voices doubts on the legality of the recent moves by Facebook, especially for existing users. The Request for comment caused the HmbBfDI to pass this concern on to the European Data Protection Supervisor (I assume). My thoughts It will be interresting to see whats to come especially as the problems lie within the realm of the GDPR thus are valid in the whole European Union. As of yesterday, I have not been able to like any pages on Facebook. Every time I try to like a page, I am met with a message attached with the post. Has anyone faced such an issue before? I have reported the problem to Facebook. I did like quite a few pages this month. Is there anyway there is a cap to how many pages I can like? I'm at 1291 right now, I unliked some of the pages to see if anything changes but to no avail whatsoever. Is there a monthly cap or something like to how many pages I can like? Please help,

I'm voluntary tech support for my grandmother currently. Facebook has always been a pain. She is unable to login to her account so I cannot login to Facebook to submit or send a support ticket and I cannot post on Facebook community forums. The problem: When I try to login to her account, she remembers her email but not her password. We then click on forgot password and it brings to a page which lists a recovery email where it will send the password instructions. That recovery email is unfamiliar to her. We then try and use the mobile phone number linked to her account to log in. It sends the usual account code to login and when we finally login to the account via the mobile code, we login to some random Hispanic woman's account, leading me to believe that her account has been hacked. If anybody is familiar with Facebook please help! She owns a restaurant and she posts her menus and flexible hours daily and now that she is unable to post that, she has lost quite a bit of business.

They are using CANN’s Temp Spec where there is a clause for “legitimate interest" to get data from other companies about people (you, me, Linus, or whomever via ICANN. Facebook has historically required all types of misinformation to be fact checked by outside sources to help prevent the spread of misinformation. However, climate change deniers have now created a loophole so that their information can bypass fact-checking. An op-ed published in the Washington Examiner was shared on Facebook that contained numerous issues, including, "...false factual assertions, cherry-picking datasets that support their point, failing to account for uncertainties in those datasets, and failing to assess the performance of climate models in an objective and rigorous manner." However, the CO2 Coalition, who partnered with the author of the piece, requested for Facebook to " ...remove censorship, labeling, and restrictions on this article" because it contained an opinion about models, not objective factual information, and should therefore not be subjected to fact-checking, even if those opinions are drawn from blatantly incorrect information. My thoughts Facebook can take one of two approaches: claim responsibility for nothing (which tends to discourage advertisers), or monitor major accounts by flagging misinformation. They have historically chosen the latter to keep advertisers from leaving the platform. If they choose the latter approach, then they ought to be held accountable for identifying all types of misinformation. Otherwise, this exemption for "opinion" could easily spread into other areas of misinformation. This is particularly troubling considering the impacts it could have on the upcoming US election. Before it all started I couldn't send any messages on group chats (only on group chats.. chatting with one person worked perfectly fine) for some reason so I reinstalled Messenger and suddenly it says "Something went wrong. Please try again." so then I tried to install some older versions of messenger.. I tried to install one from two months ago, one from a year ago and one from two years ago. Guys, I used to run a Indian Tech Blog website by Logicweb hosting provider. (Just tech news related to Indian Market) Their server performance was average, but they used to change server configurations and service plans all the time without informing. Example - change the PHP MySQL version, changes in PHP.INI settings, FTP Port, CPanel Port and URL etc. When complained, their support team was very very rude. They think every one in this world are 'tech savvy'. After such bad support and also getting insulted multiple time, I decided to switch the provider. Hello it might sound silly, but for some specific reason it's kind of important to my wife so... here it goes, we've created facebook place https://www.facebook.com/pages/Pałac-W-Kamienicy/1907674239290408 and while typing the name I made a mistake and instead of lowercase w I typed uppercase W in the middle of the name Unfortunately I cant change it now, I can only suggest and edit... and facebook shows that my changes are pending. I am looking to create a Facebook for my grandfather who grew up in a different time. However, since he grew up in a different time, he uses racial slurs a good bit. He recently got a smartphone and wants Facebook put on there so he can “keep up with the news and happenings”. How can I set up an account so that he cannot post or comment but can follow people? Facebook messenger is not required but would be nice to have.

The online communities at Facebook, Twitter, Google, ect. Have been heavily focused upon and in the spotlight recently. Much of the criticism has had been rightly placed on the companies due to the ways they have handled(or mishandled)the occurances. I am personally entirely in favor of our community and the internet as a whole being held as closely to complete freedom of speech as possible. Regulation of allowable content and ideas, by nature, will always place one bias against another... These biases are real and our own blindness to them is also very real. Brian Amerige at Facebook has posted an internal memo in an attempt to draw attention to a topic that he and many others have been afraid to express for fear of personal consequences from coworkers and from the company itself. His short 1 and a bit page memo is blunt and upfront about the concerns that he and some of his fellow employees have regarding the situation inside the company from an outsider employee's point of view.
