Article from CNET: https://www.cnet.com/news/us-government-agency-investigates-accident-with-facebook-drone/ Well, their motives are good. Providing internet access to areas without DSL, Fiber or even 3G. I really want this endeavor to succeed. Although I kinda prefer Elon Musk's plan.

Hi, I want to know how I can avoid that my posts appear on my acquaintances feeds, and how I can avoid their posts on my feed. I'd like to divide my friends list between classmates whom I must contact for group projects, and personal friends in whose content I'm interested.

Source: Tweakers (dutch) Source: Techcrunch On the one hand this will stimulate the growth and adoption of blockchain which is something I think is good, on the other hand its partly in the hands of Facebook, so I'm not touching it with a 20 foot pole. Public launch will be first half of 2020.

Yes, yet another one of these topics. Like all the other tech giants, Facebook apparently hired third-party contractors to transcribe audio recordings. These recordings included plenty of random stuff, arguments etc. The difference with the others is that this are Messenger conversations, so the people actively recorded the audio instead of a device randomly picking it up. Still, I'm pretty sure that most of the users had no idea that anyone apart from the recipient would hear the audio. Facebook has already stopped doing this after the others came under fire for it. They also claim that the users whose voice chats were transcribed chose that option in Facebook's Messenger app. I don't use Facebook so I can not verify the default position of this option, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's on by default and people simply weren't aware what it actually did. Much like the others, they were deliberately vague about everything. Source : Bloomberg Another day, another data scandal. Or is it "Another day, another Facebook scandal"? I guess nobody is surprised at this anymore. Everyone is doing whatever the hell they want with your data and you have almost no say in it. The only thing you as the user can do is not to use these companies' products and make it as hard as possible for them to create a shadow profile on you too.

FBI seeks to monitor Facebook, oversee mass social media data collection
Guest posted a topic in Tech News
There you go! It is starting... What was it again in another thread? He just throws words around to make people react? I've been waiting for this since his last speech! And here it is... Who would have thought that ZDNet would post about this when all the other Medias don't pip a word about it! I'm so glad I'm not on Facebook, except a very OLD alt which has only been used for testing. HOW is this not a violation of privacy and HOW can non.US users not be impacted by this? https://www.zdnet.com/article/fbi-seeks-to-monitor-facebook-oversee-mass-social-media-data-collection/ -
This caught my attention. Is this still working or have it been shut down. If so, what metods/tools are working atm. A user on twitter has posted about a "feature" of the Facebook app for Android that reportedly scans, compresses and then uploads Android users entire system library. There appears to be no way to opt out and no indication to exactly why Facebook would need to do this or what they achieve by doing it. Jane Wong (@wongmjane on twitter) the person who appears to have been the first person to publically find and expose this "feature" notes: "the files are uploaded to a specific collection that’s related to my phone" which begs the question if this might violate Europe's GDPR laws on storing Personally Identifiable information. This might prove to be another big blow to Facebook's already heavily tarnished reputation for breaching user's perceived privacy. I have a question on Facebook post/timeline privacy and none of their help topics (or Google) have shown me quite what I am looking to answer. I change my post privacy as custom when posting things to my timeline. Yesterday, I put a post on my own timeline with an individual or two set as the only ones who could see the post. I did not share the post with the individuals, tag them in the post, or post to their timelines— I posted only to my timeline with the special custom privacy. However, said individuals received a direct notification saying that I shared something with them, when I hadn’t. Is this a feature of Facebook or a bug? It doesn’t seem quite right to send notices of sharing with people when that hasn’t been done, when a post was simply made on your own profile with specific privacy settings so that only a select few would be able to see it when/if they look at your profile. Any help on answering this would be nice, since Facebook help section, Google, and contacting Facebook directly have all cane up empty for me so far. Thanks.

https://www.upguard.com/breaches/facebook-user-data-leak Security researchers from UpGuard have just found yet another cache of Facebook user data. Two Facebook integrated apps, "Cultura Colectiva", and "At the Pool", hosted the data on unsecured Amazon S3 (Simple Storage Service) instances, which were configured to allow anyone to download the data. One app, "Cultura Collectiva" had not responded to notification of the breach or otherwise secured the data until it and Facebook were contacted for comment by Bloomberg. The other app, "At the Pool" has since gone offline, and the researchers believe the parent company has gone under given their site returns a 404. The contents of their database breach is incredibly concerning, as it contained more than 22,000 plaintext passwords, emails, and names, and has likely been public since 2014. Despite Facebook's recent efforts towards more responsibly handling the data they collect on their users, there is no putting the cork back after their reckless and frankly irresponsible handling of their users data in the past. More of these databases are likely still out there, unsecured or otherwise, and there is no taking that back. As always, be security conscious online, because you never know who has your data, or where they're putting it.

Another day, another Facebook privacy issue. Earlier this month there was a topic about how people signing up for a Facebook account were asked to enter their email passwords. It turns out that when people actually gave Facebook access to their mailbox, Facebook "unintentionally" uploaded their contact lists to their servers without even asking for their consent. This info was then used to let Facebook find out your social connections and recommend more friends to add. It is unclear if the data was also used for advertising purposes. Source : Business Insider https://www.businessinsider.com/facebook-uploaded-1-5-million-users-email-contacts-without-permission-2019-4?r=US&IR=T I'm honestly not even surprised anymore. I also have some serious doubts about this being unintentional. At least now that they got caught they will be deleting the info ... or so they say. Good luck finding out if they actually did.

Source: BleepingComputer TL;DR: A now publicized class action lawsuit from 2012 has revealed Facebook has refused to take action to prevent abuse of in-game purchases; In some cases referring to children as "whales", A casino term for high spenders. Quotes/Excerpts: My Thoughts: I have yet to read the documents now available, however I would hope that a child being a "whale" is taken out of context and made in a less immoral statement. I can understand that children should be monitored by their parents when gaming, however games and apps also should not save purchase information by default.

FB Messenger Notifications Not Working On 4G
Mike Soda posted a topic in Programs, Apps and Websites
From what I can tell, all my facebook messenger app settings for notifications are turned on for my galaxy s7. Yet it still refuses to let me know of new messages when I'm using 4g & not wifi. Is there a way I can force it & any other app I choose to give me notifications regardless of if I'm using wifi or 4g? -
Source: The Verge Summary: By exploiting a feature meant for Enterprise BYOD, Facebook has been collecting full phone activity and paying teens up to $20 a month. Quotes/Excerpts: My Thoughts: While this isn't the first app to pay you for giving up details about your life, such as Google Play Rewards. This is the first app I'm aware of that documents all your phone's data using Root CA. It will be interesting to see any outrage, if any, that occurs.

Seriously people's privacy is only worth $20 a month! Is this a joke or do people really not care about their security and privacy. 2+ years of this that's absolutely insane. Only Facebook can in the same sentence say "There are no known risk associated with the project" and "The inherent nature of this project involves tracking of person information via your child's use of apps". The icing on the cake, targeting minors with this crap. Can Facebook get any worse and people any less caring about their personal info? Seriously selling out kids info for $20! This what I've faced when I tried to login into my Facebook account yesterday. This is the exact message I've received: I've tried sending a photo of my ID, birth certificate, high school certificate and my passport, too, three of them has a clear picture of me, but all of them were rejected, knowing that the date of birth and my name on the IDs and my account match perfectly. For a full understanding, I've posted the issue in my blog: https://nasriyasoftware.wixsite.com/tech-en/forum/facebook/impersonating-someone-facebook-refuses-to-let-s-in

Facebook has been found to be breaking Apple’s terms of service for Apple’s Enterprise service. Looks like Facebook was using the special certificate privileges from Apple’s Enterprise distribution package to install tracking software onto customers iPhones. Apple revoked the certificate which killed all of Facebook’s internal apps for iOS. Glad to see someone holding Facebook accountable for their actions. Source: The Verge Major investors (can we even call them that anymore?) Visa, Mastercard, eBay, Stripe, & Mercado Pago have withdrawn from Facebook's Libra cryoptocurrency association. This comes after eBay started the exits last week. eBay & Stripe gave statements on their stance on the Facebook Libra Association: Libra's Dante Disparte then responded to the exits by shedding light upon the situation and giving a final word on the association. I don't follow cryptocurrencies at all, but the fact tha eBay, Visa, & Mastercard have all pulled out probably says something about what could come out of Facebook's new cryptocurrency campaign. The backers behind Libra still seem ambitious about the campaign so I'm interested to see how it all pans out. It's Facebook though, so don't hold your breath.

Messenger (beta) on the Windows Store was just updated. The old Windows Store app was lacking quite a few features. Now, it's much better. Looks similar to the Messenger Web App except it uses a 3 dot button the top right instead of the information button. Small news here but I thought it was interesting enough to share. A newly created human rights website was banned from posting on Facebook, like many before. Even mentioning the website address would get the post deleted. They got to some high up people and got the ban lifted, and Facebook wants to talk policy change. As just released a few hours ago on the Portuguese tech focussed web publication, Exame Informática, João Pina, an investigator in this field, has publicly announced on Twitter his findings when probing at the government's own websites. He has found out that the government authentication system (autenticacao.gov.pt) is sharing the personal information of whoever accesses the page with private company Facebook. Such findings have in the mean time been confirmed to the OP by another specialist that has prefered to stay anonymous. The website in cause has an embedded Facebook SDK into it. It has been so far confirmed that at least the user's IP address and browser version are being shared with the private company. This then allows Facebook to cross and match user identifiable data. Even if the user isn't logged in to Facebook, it can still keep track of the IP and browser version. João Pina also defends that the AMA (in english AAM or Agency for the Administrative Modernization), the institution responsible for the website in question, is also logging the user's email used to log in to Facebook, as found in the webpage's code. Presented with the facts, the AMA has forwarded any technical clarifications to the information available on the government's website. In a tab dedicated to social networks, it is stated that "no data is sent to social networks, according to the best practices". (comment: whatever that means...) Apart from this, it was also found that this platforms also have Google's data analysis platform, Analytics, embedded. As a Portuguese citizen myself I can only say that this is a complete and disgusting abuse on citizen privacy and that I really hope this doesn't go without severe punishment, not only for AMA but also for the government for not keeping tabs on who they should or being compliant and obviously for Mr. Zuck's childish 15 year old teenager. https://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/gadgets-and-tech/news/facebook-android-privacy-data-tracking-skyscanner-duolingo-a8708071.html Facebook's data collecting practices have once again been called into question, after a new report revealed that it "routinely tracked" people who do not use the app. Privacy International researchers found that 23 apps sent data to Facebook the moment a user opened them.
