Summary Facebook found four malicious Chrome extensions, and is suing two of their developers. The extensions were found to have been scaping user data. The following are the extensions in question: Facebook claims the developers of the Blue and Green keyboard apps "misled users into installing the extensions with a privacy policy that claimed they did not collect personal information." The company they are suing, 'Oink and Stuff' is based in Portugal, which means they also broke Portugal’s Database Protection Laws. – Jessica Romero, Director of Platform Enforcement and Litigation at Facebook My thoughts I find it rare to have news like this where facebook is taking action against those harvesting data. Perhaps they want all the data to themselves, or maybe they are trying to take a step in the right direction. This also shows that Facebook (and their subsidies) are reviewing at chrome extensions and other 3rd party things that run on their services. Summary "Population One" is a popular VR battle royale game Facebook acquired in 2021, it could be played on the company's Quest 1 headset without additional hardware. With the release of the newer (and more expensive) Quest 2 headset, Facebook has announced that "Population One" players will no longer be able to play the game on the Quest 1. Players will still be able to play "Population One" on the Quest 1 headset if paired with a VR PC. Facebook has offered a conditional six month refound window. (the game is about two years old). Quotes My thoughts Facebook wants to build a Metaverse. While the metaverse is a nebolous concept, at the minimum a Metaverse should be cross compatible with a vast catalogue of first and third party applications and hardware to be called such. Zuckenberg already went on record expecting the metaverse bet to take at least until 2030 to pay off. It should be clear to everyone involved that the Metaverse is a bottomless money pit to achieve critical mass. Yet, Facebook isn't even committed to maintain first party support to a first party (more expensive) hardware upgrade, nor is willing to offer a cheaper upgrade to the Quest 2 for "Population One" players. It's going to be hard for Facebook to promote adoption of its metaverse while at the same time monetizing those very same early adopters. It's very much the same story with Facebook company scrips the Diem/Libra cryptocurrency that Facebook was planning to use inside its metaverse. I think Facebook vision is too short term for them to achieve the Mertaverse. Projects that put monetization ahead of adoption don't do so well, it's usually the reverse, with companies monetizing a product after it achieved adoption. If BJP's Amit Malviya Reports Your Post, Instagram Will Take it Down – No Questions Asked Summary Seven posts by satirical account @cringearchivist were removed without any verification because the head of the BJP's IT Cell falls under Meta's controversial 'XCheck' programme. Quotes My thoughts Meta is now colluding with the Ruling Right-wing party in India and removing posts flagged by the party's IT Cell chief (a non-government post ). The ruling party runs an army of bots on social media to spread fake news and hate against the minorities, while any posts critical of them is flagged and taken down citing bizarre reasons with the help of these shameless corporations who just want to keep the Rulers happy and get their share of this huge market without any introspection. I would also like to point out that Twitter has gone to court against some takedown orders by the Indian Government. Seems like atleast someone's batting for Free Speech. Summary A Bengaluru-based bakery named FaceBake has received a restraining order and a Rs 50.000 fine from Facebook. Quotes My thoughts I don’t know how to feel about this. On the one hand, yeah Facebook needs to keep their copyright. But to also go after a small bakery and fine them, I don’t know. EDIT: After doing more research, (reading the comments) I can comfirm how I feel now. Facebook is in the right. That bakery is copying Facebook so much in design, it’s kinda funny. But, it’s still infringement, so yeah, $630 is too little. Sources qz.com

I don't use social media, but I needed a facebook account to sign into a something a while ago so I made one. I never posted on it and since Facebook thinks that its a bot if you don't post, it got banned. I went to appeal, it got denied. I can't make another facebook account, and even if i did, i wouldn't use it for anything other than my oculus and it would probably get banned and that might make me lose my oculus account. How do i get around this?

This has been concerning me big time. For the last week I have been getting daily account recovery codes from facebook. I use randomized passwords for everything and 2-factor authentication, so it appears that no one has been able to actually access my accounts, and I used the setting to sign myself out of everything just to be safe. In the emails there's always an option for if I wasn't the one that requested the code, yet this is still happening. I remember facebook used to show locations of where attempted logins came from, but it looks like they don't do that anymore. This has been weirding me out for a while. Normally these kinds of things happen a couple times and then they stop, but this person or program has been relentless with trying to get in. Does anybody have some advice or a similar experience to share?

Hey everyone, A couple days ago I had my first experience being hacked on Instagram. How it happened is something I cannot figure and its seriously bugging me. I use a password manager that generates a strong password to secure to my account. I have 2 factor authentication set up and my choice was to use the password managers one time password as the authenticator as well as sms code. I have login notifications on as well so anytime I login I get an email and a push notification. I also have suspicious login attempt notifications on. Upon waking up the other day, I received a text from a few friends alerting me I was hacked. I did not receive a email login notification nor did I receive a push notification or suspicious login attempt notification. I did not receive a text with a 2-step code. Thankfully in my case, my password was not changed. I was able to open Instagram as usual and logout the other person who signed in. They were signed in from Germany. Here's what I do not understand, I logged in on my PC to change my password, immediately I got an email and push notification alerting me of a suspicious login attempt that requires my approval. Why did this not happen when said hacker logged in? I know most "hacks" are phishing except I've only ever been logged in on my phone and I have never used a third party app to sign in with my Instagram. I also change my password every 6 months out of fear of being hacked since its happened to multiple of my friends. Does anyone know how it is possible that they were able to by pass 2-factor and login notifications?

I took an old system I had around and put a few parts from my big box of parts in it to try to sell it and declutter. Does this seem like an effective listing and a reasonable price? I listed it on fb and craig's. Listing is as follows: Title: Gaming PC w/ RX 6600, i7 3770, 16GB RAM, 500GB SSD, WiFi, Good PSU - $400 I've had this tower since it was new but decided to put a few better components that I had on hand in it and sell it. Some of the components I bought new to finish it off. Components: CPU: i7 3770 (4 cores 8 threads) GPU: RX 6600 (8GB GDDR6 VRAM) (Used for 8 months on another system with excellent airflow) RAM: 16GB (2x8, DDR3 1600MHz) (New) SSD: 500GB SATA 3D VNAND (New) HDD: 500GB 3.5in 7200RPM DVD R/W: lol yes it has one and it is automatic with a hinged door to hide it nicely. Wireless: Onboard Wifi PSU: 750w DeepCool DQ750 V2 80+ Gold, Fully Modular (New) The RX 6600 is as fast in most games as a GTX 1080, (faster in newer games) and uses half the power. It's a little faster than the RTX 3060 but slower than the RTX 3060ti for reference. The heatsink says AMD on it because I swapped out the fan on the CPU heat sink with one from a Wraith Spire to give it a little extra air and be quieter (the fan on that cooler is made by CoolerMaster). The screw holes were in the same spots so it fits perfectly. I've also installed an extra 140mm corsair fan onto the side ventilation to get some extra cold air in and give the system positive air pressure (good for temps and dust). The power supply is brand new and fully modular and I have all of the extra cables for it. It's a really good power supply, way overkill for this system. I just needed a PSU for this system and had a sweet promo code for it. I've installed Windows 11 Home on it and fully activated it. The Windows key is still on a sticker on the case. 125-140 fps average at 3440x1440p in Overwatch 2 online matches at Epic settings. These are the pics I included with the listing.

Hello, I have got a small facebook classifieds group with about a hundred users regularly posting items for sale. It has reached some popularity among the locals and it is quite active now. All kinds of items are posted in it and its a bit messy now as the only way to sort the items would be through the keywords you enter in the search. So I had a thought to make a shopping website for having a more organized representation of the items in this group by separating them to different categories. I want the items to be fetched and displayed directly from facebook to my website so I do not have to store them with me and they will be taken out when the publisher deletes it from facebook. I have not attempted something like this before, so im not sure where I should start. I had a look into Facebook's developer tools Graph API. The documentation didnt explain anything on how to go inside a group and search for items. It only shows how to search for group names. Found this other third party API called Facebook4J and that also shows similar examples to that of Graph API. I also saw other options like using an RSS to grab the information but then again I saw comments on them that they do not work anymore as Facebook has changed their policy. What do u think is the best way to achieve this process? Your suggestions would be very helpful. Thanks.

source1 source2:video source3:whatsapp - source 1 So Facebook invested heavily in India which is really getting really scary now. For those of you who aren't from India let me clear the situation up. Jio (4g LTE cellular network) is owned by Reliance industries and the man at the top is Mukesh Ambani (guy in the video in source 2 )who's one of Asia's richest people. He started Jio publicly in September 2016 and in 4 years already is India largest network operator with 370 million plus subscribers (3rd largest in the world) He did this by basically destroying the competition by giving away totally free sim cards and charged nothing for LTE for around a year or more. Because of him alone the LTE rates in India are cheap. for eg. heres a monthly plan for jio 2.61 USD gives you 1.5 GB data/day after that slower speed i.e 42GB/month unlimited jio to jio calling 1000 minutes free 100 sms/day free jio apps - free streaming apps with quite a lot of content. tv shows, music, among other things. Back to Facebook now. Facebook bought whatsapp a while back which currently has around 2 billion users and of those more than 400 million just in India. - data from source 3 Whatsapp is everywhere in India. Even the local grocery seller (not a shop) Whatsapps the price of veggies and you can buy them by replying. he will deliver those to your doorstep. Facebook already tried digital payments with Whatsapp which failed badly. The video in source 2 talks about integrating Whatsapp with Jio and allowing digital payments. This has a HUGE potential. Jio is already at a position where it will dominate the network operator market. There are only 3 major players out of which one is on the verge of collapse (Vodafone India) the combination of both Whatsapp and Jio is deadly as the customer base is already quite huge and may not even have many options to choose otherwise. We all know Facebook cant be trusted at all. I really fear giving such sensitive data to Facebook. (This could be a wan show topic i don't know if there's a thread to post these topics somewhere so correct me if i'm wrong.)

I've learned that you can use a VPN to appear as if you are in Indonesia, to be able to remove your last name from facebook and use only your first name. I wonder, is there any country that allows you to start your name in lower case? Facebook automatically turns the first letter of each name into caps.

Hi LTT forum, I had recently at school a lesson about Facebook. That guy said that facebook is recording everything you do. FB posts, Instagram posts, sites that you visit that has a Facebook link, private messages in messenger,.. etc So I went as soon as possible online to search for my personal Facebook archive. and I found it and literally everything is there! I don't think a lot of people know this.. so a just wanted to let you know ? (I found it here: http://www.zdnet.be/article/127327/download-heel-je-facebook-geschiedenis/ )

Okay so my question is sort of: What is Disqus? But more importantly, why is my Facebook account linked to it? And how is it linked to it? I saw my email address listed in the comments section of an article asking me to verify it. I was confused as to how it knew my email and it turns out it's associated with my Facebook and an old version of my Facebook as well ie. It was using a very very very old picture so I am assuming this is one of those ways to link social media accounts together and comment on articles? I never engage in social media buttons and features outside of the social media sites themselves due to privacy concerns. My issue is I know as a fact I have never heard of Disqus and never created an account with them. Site: https://disqus.com/

Hey guys! I wanted to create a Facebook page that focused on selling tech. Yes, Facebook has its own marketplace, but you can sell anything there, this group is special because the items listed in the chat would only be tech!! I would appreciate it if anyone reading this could join it! Thank you! Click here to join https://www.facebook.com/groups/725737754258027/ !

Ugh. I have nothing clever or witty to say about this. I'm just horrified. So, from what I understand, they're going to be combating fake news, by further entangling themselves with the industry creating the fake news. Namely the "mainstream media" (Fox news, CNN, MSNBC, WAPO, NYT, HuffPo etc). Not sure how that works in any sane manner. But I do believe that it will likely have horrible results, for everyone. Seems like they're going to make the news even more dumbed down that it already is. Source: http://mashable.com/2017/01/11/facebook-make-journalism-great-again/?utm_cid=hp-hh-pri#eT1oNAnNwmq4 What I find sickening about this, is that they're going to be partnering with the same people who are creating fake news and false narratives. The same people who are still trying to push the idea that Russia was behind the hacks on the DNC. They continue to present this "intelligence community report" that literally provides ZERO. EVIDENCE. And only assertions. Mainly the report says "We think Russia did it. Trust us.". And yet......they want to combat fake news. Well here's an idea. I know it sounds crazy, but maybe, just maybe.... STOP MAKING FAKE NEWS?! I don't have a head-desk or facepalm gif strong enough for what the media is doing right now. We need to just call shenanigans, get our brooms, and start hitting people until they stop.

Building 8 is a "research division that Facebook created last year [and] is developing “brain-computer interface” technology that sounds a lot like the telepathy of science fiction movies." wrote Alex Heath from Businesses Insider on the 12th January, 2017. If as Neil Harbisson says "Art also lies in the creation of our own senses" and considering that he is an artist who paints in the medium of sound. It would be this type of art form that may be a little closer to something that I would be willing to share to the world across an open internet connection. But how to turn down the type of "click-bait" headline and editorial skepticism as below for it to become acceptable to all is unknown to me. I recently bought a used Lumia 920.1 off my friend who no longer found it useful since messenger has stopped working properly. It works fine when connected to WiFi but on mobile data, it fails to connect for some reason. (apparently an issue on a number of older Lumia phones) Maybe it would work again if I updated the phone to Windows 10 but I don't want to do that for a number of reasons. I can simply use messenger through a browser so technically it's not too much of a problem. However, since I don't necessarily want to have a browser running in the background every time I need to wait for someone to respond to my message while doing something else, I've been wondering: is there an alternative app that would support the messenger protocol and work correctly on my Lumia 920?
