  1. Hey Linus group, am unable to find an RJ45 splitter that simply doubles the ports from your router. Please point to the techquickie video on this topic in case I missed. My goal is to take one active Ethernet port and use it for two devices that consume internet. Please post products in Amazon that does this. TIA
  2. You used to be able to select one network you were using and share that connection to another computer, E.G. laptop on Wi-Fi giving a desktop plugged into it's ethernet port access to the network, in Windows 7 but it seems in Windows 11 this is no longer doable. According to Microsoft I SHOULD be able to go to Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network Connections but that's not even possible now, I have to go Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Center then click "Change adapter settings" and it opens up a new window which has the correct path. From there I'm supposed to be able to right click the connection I wish to share, select "Properties" from the dropdown menu, switch to the "Sharing" tab, tick off the box for "Allow other network users to connect through this computer's internet connection" and after that make a selection from a dropdown that will appear. Problem is the dropdown DOSN'T appear and an internet search for the issue pointed me to the Microsoft forms in which every single person having this issue is running Windows 10 or 11. The response everyone gets is the same set of copied and pasted instructions that worked once upon a time for Windows 7 that aren't correct anymore and then when the OP says that they did that and the dropdown doesn't appear the mods point them to official Microsoft documentation that's either unrelated or EXACTLY what they just posted as an answer then usually lock the thread. I tried following various things people suggested in threads including enabling the sharing serves by default from the Computer Management window, trying to force it to do what I want via Command Prompt or PowerShell, and bridging my ethernet interface and Wi-Fi together under Network Connections but have had no success. Either I'm grossly misremembering what network sharing was and how it worked, thinking of a different OS, or Microsoft has managed to break, change, or remove the feature or parts of it without updating any documentation or making the higherups on their forms aware. How the hell can I share my Wi-Fi connection from my Windows 11 PC to the Ubuntu Server box I'm setting up via my Windows 11 system's Ethernet port?
  3. So out of nowhere , my internet started being buggy. I didn't switch different wi-fi networks or anything but somehow it was just buggy for certain application. For example, I'm not able to join my friends when playing Risk of Rain and Halo Infinite. For Risk of Rain, everytime I tried joining my friend, I would get a black screen and it would just kick me out. It would not let me join or play. I tried to think over it and the only problem I see is my network. And its only these 2 games that it wont let me connect to the game and wouldn't let me join my friends. For halo infinite, It just said that I get disconnect form the game server or get timed out. I don't know why my network is like this. Just recently the biggest trouble is that whenever I try to join a world on Elden Ring or when other people try to join me, they would get timed out. Anyone familiar with this issue? .I run a NETGEAR router, the NETGEAR Nighthawk R7000P, and I've tried to look at the setting for unusual settings, but I don't know how to fix it. I tried factory resetting my router the other day and for a solid hour to hour and a half, it worked and let me join my friends in Risk of Rain and Halo Infinite. I don't know what these 2 games have in common, but they just wont let me join my friends to play it. I don't know if Its a port forwarding issue or if its something else. Let me know your input, anything is appreciated. Thank you!
  4. My ethernet is not working . I tried updated every driver I even reinstall all the drivers and diagnostic . It doesn't show lights or anything on the plug . In realtek diagnostics it identifies when I plug the cable but its says " Link status is disconnected" . I tried restarting my pc for a hours hoping it works and it didn't. Wifi works perfectly fine
  5. I’m running a asrock x570 steel legend motherboard. I’ve never had problems with internet before, and all of a sudden I’ve lost all access. The first thing i did was reset my Router, Modem, and PC no luck. I then ran troubleshoot but it detected no problems. I thought it might be my adapters/drivers so I checked for updates had none, uninstalled and reinstalled them. Still no luck. I even ran intel LAN tester to go more in depth trouble shooting, I only received one error which was a loopback error, but I can’t find a definitive answer on what that means. I’ve been in my control panel to change to manual ip and DNS, I’ve switched to 192 • 168 • 1 • 1 and on the other I’ve done the 8 • 8 • 8 • 8 trick. I’ve disabled and enabled the network along with DHCP. I’ve also been in my command prompt, and done ipconfig /flushdns, as well as ipconfig /release, ipconfig/ renew, netsh winsock reset, and netsh int ip reset. I’ve done a couple other things but still no luck… I am stumped.
  6. Hi there! So I was watching the outdoor cat 5e cable video and was wanting to do the same. I rather not risk hitting any wires so is there a tool that can detect wires? Incase it helps, the wall I want to put a hole into already has my broadband coming through it and the ethernet cable would be put right next to it. I'm also in the UK so if there is a tool, UK stores please! I was wanting to do this so that I could give my mesh WiFi a wired backhaul instead of relying on a wireless one AND get my full broadband speed to my bedroom so the devices that'll make the most use of the speed can actually use it.
  7. Hi guys, I bought corsair K55 RGB PRO. Was pretty excited to finally use somewhat decent keyboard. I plugged it in to my pc, used a MOBO port just next to the Ethernet, I wanted to on download software for RGB and ... I wasn't able to connect to internet at all. It seems network card stoped to recognize ethernet cable is plugged in. I tried restarting PC, network card, reinstaling Lan drivers, all to no avail. Is it ... Fried? And if so, Why the hell ... What can I do to further diagnose the issue? Maybe it's software after all? The internet connection stopped the moment I plugged the keyboard ... Btw. I have pretty long Ethernet cable running across the apartment, 40 m or something like that. I have some amount of it laying/hanging under my desk in a spool, I moved pc yesterday, I guess it could be the cable as well. System: - Windows 10 home - ASRock B450-hdv r4.0 - Ryzen 5 5600G - 16GB G.skill 3000 MHz -Evga GTX 950 SC
  8. I have a 300mbps fiber lease line. I gets me up 250+ mbps on average, usually. My system uses MSI Z490-A pro motherboard which ships with 2.5gbE link controller. My modem supports dual channels and giga internet, uses CAT 5e cable. When using steam, i get up to 37MBps but speed test on chrome or when downloading off the chrome, i get up to 30-80 mbps (3-8 MBps). I presume it is a routing issue, my DNS is configured to auto. What can i do to make full use of it.
  9. I have a rj45 cat 6a cable which i want to connect to my router i have the plug and stuff but when peeling the wire i noticed that the white wires are solid white and have no green blue orange or brown so how do i connect? Based on the twisted pairs like blue pair will be blue white and green pair will be green white. Need help as my work is stuck would appreciate if someone could help me with this.
  10. For the longest time ever on steam I have had an issue where if I download a large game my game downloads with peak around 60mbps but then suddenly my mbps decrease little by little until the download drops completely and starts downloading again, I get lowest speeds up to 400kbps. I have tried a lot of troubleshooting from Firewall to Windows Defender, changing download region and capping my speeds but to no avail.
  11. I'm looking to get a windows laptop for light office style work. The absolute requirements are: -cheap -gigabit ethernet port -full size HDMI port -headphone jack Bonus would be reasonably physically robust, touchscreen. Extra super double bonus would be a convertable. Any thoughts? Thanks!
  12. Hi everyone I am facing issues with my pc basically when i connect my pc to modem through Ethernet cable the modem starts restarting continuously and everything that connects with modem starts fluctuating. I tried following things: *Replaced pc Ethernet card *Replaced modem *Change pc and modem socket *And i try disconnect everything from modem except my pc but tha problem is same. Can anybody tell me proper fix?
  13. i updated my Asus N53SM laptop bios to have "hacked" bios. After using rufus to set up a freeDOS usb and restarting my laptop into my usb and runing using the bios installed. Everything there looks fine? my computer runs just as before, but the only thing not working is my ethernet. Wifi works, but the ethernet doesn't. Installing drivers does nothing. Downgrading my bios back to stock does nothing. Windows troubleshooter didn't help. Even resintalled windows. Nothing. In device manager "Realtek PCie GbE Family Controller" has shown It has shown this before i reinstalled windows and after i reinstalled windows. Im assuming my mac adress was cleared? but i don't have the tehnical know-how to really say. I would really appriciate if someone told me what to do and if i can fix it. OS - Windows 11 x64 What OS was originaly installed on the system? Windows 10 Retail Age of system (hardware): 2013 Age of OS installation - have you re-installed the OS? 03.03.22-Last os installation CPU model: I7-2670QM Video Card model: GT 630M System Manufacturer: Asus Exact model number (if OEM or laptop): Asus N53SM Laptop
  14. Hey everyone, I could really use the communities help with this one. I am a professional video editor who deals with a lot of data transfers online. For the most part that happens with domains such as Youtube, Vimeo, Google Drive and Frame IO. My computer is a M1 MacBook Air with 8 gigs of RAM and 512gig SSD (later this year I'm planning to upgrade to a MacBook Pro M1 Max with 64gb of RAM but this is what I'm using right now). I have a 1gigabyte down and 500mb fiber internet connection and use a ISP provided Huawei hg8145v5 Modem/router/AP combo. I also have my Mac configured to use Cloudflare DNS. Currently, when using a direct Ethernet connection (with the official Belkin Ethernet adapter (https://www.apple.com/shop/product/HJKF2ZM/A/belkin-usb-c-to-gigabit-ethernet-adapter) to the modem and right after restarting my computer, I get 939 down and 520 up using the app version of Speedtest connected to my local ISP server (https://www.speedtest.net/my-result/d/406192609). And hey, I'm not complaining about those numbers, that's pretty great. Problem is with real world usage. Usually when uploading and downloading from Google Drive for example, I'm rarely able to get those kinds of numbers and if there's one company who I should be able to get my full speed from, its Google. Now, I've already ordered a Ubiquity U6-LR access point (as well as the POE adapter) so I know my wifi is going to get an improvement but I'm still afraid the hardware on the Huawei modem is limiting my internet speeds and is costing me time and money. That's why I'm considering also buying a Ubiquity UDM Pro to act as a router and leave the modem acting as only a modem. Thing is that it ain't exactly cheap and would take a big chunk out of my savings and budget. If it's really worth it I'll bite the bullet but if it's not going to make that much of a difference, then it'll be a purchase for a later date. Any tips, suggestions and recommendations would be highly appreciated. Also, would you guys use Cat 5e, 6 or 7 ethernet cables to hook the modem to the Ubiquity Access Point?
  15. Hey everyone. sorry if i didnt look hard enough for a solution on here. ive been trying for weeks. i just moved in with some friends. the new home owners father used to work as an engineer / in telecommunications. we currently have 2- 2.4 ghz networks, and 1 5-ghz network. we dont have the password for the 5ghz network. the house is two stories, main router is on the main floor. i was told that the two different 2.4ghz networks were based off of the main floor and the second floor. while going into the router options to see if i cound find the 5ghz password i found. we have our main router. another router on the main floor. and then upstairs we have a "office" which has at least 6 different routers. all of them will give me internet hardwired to my laptop. our 1 network only works on some devices / has connection issues / slow for our internet speed our second network is pretty decent but not that fast for gigabit internet 5ghz cant even find it in router settings to get the password hard wired to the main router i get 800 megabits/s up and down everywhere else is under 100 even on wifi i assume the best course of action is disconnect everything from the main router. perform a factory reset on the network settings and then find a solution for wifi extenders its a house of 4 adults. heavy wifi / internet users basically whats the most cost effective / easiest way to set up this house. we dont need hardwired connections upstairs that badly. mainly just a connection that doesnt drop all the time i appreciate any and all answers!
  16. As the topic says; I have a cat7 cable that I cut to a shorter length and crimped a new connecter to the now open end. I used a cable tester to verify I maintained a straight through cable config (T-568A) it was ordered correctly and I was getting signal from one end to the other. However after plugging the cable from my switch to my pc I noted that I was getting 100mbps. Using a purchased cable from the same manufacturer I was getting 1gbps so I'm not exactly sure why my cat7 cable suddenly can't do 1gbps. Some context; So in a previous post, my roommates dog chewed into my Cat7 cable and it damaged a few pairs but left the cable working but not at full speeds. I have since replaced that cable and gone on to once again enjoy my 1gbps internet, however I'm not one to just throw away a still salvageable cable, so I cut out the damaged section and re-crimped the ends, but after testing them, in my known working 1gbps setup, I can only manage 100mbps. If anybody has any kind of experience in crimping ethernet cables and knows what I could do to remedy this loss in speeds I'd be very appreciative. NOTE: I have already tried cutting it off and redoing the connection but I received the same results.
  17. Hello everyone. Recently I moved to a residence and I have an ethernet port in the room which I wanted to use. I connected my PC to it with a cable and instantly the orange and green lights on the port in the PC lighted up (good). The problem is than whenever I boot the PC, when Windows starts up the lights go off and I have no internet connection via Ethernet (bad). Windows says that nothing is connected via cable. Very rarely, the connection remains during boot and then it works without problems until I turn off the PC and then I keep losing it again. I had used cable internet with this computed before and never had any problems. I find very scarce info about this issue. I read somewhere that it might have something to do with WoL, but I disabled it and it made no difference. Any info or help would be much appreciated. My specs are the following: Ryzen 5600X Asus TUF B550M-Plus Wifi 32 Gb 3600 MHz Cl 14 Memory 3070 Ti Windows 10 Pro 21H1 OS build 19043.1526 Thanks! EDIT: I've noticed that if I leave the computer running long enough (more than an hour), the ethernet connection comes back and it starts working again. I have no idea why is it acting so bizarre.
  18. Hi guys , i have build a new pc for someone with the following specs and I am unable to connect to the ethernet. i5 11500 (non f) msi h510m bomber 8gbx2 crucial ballistix with xmp 3200mhz ( currently runing at 2666mhz ) 1tb samsung 980 (non pro) boot drive in m.2 slot seasonic core gm-550 windows 10 home unactivated .os build 19044.1288 no gpu I have used the same ethernet cable on another pc and it works fine. I have also tried the following to solve this problem 1,reset bios 2,reset network 3,reset window 4,use m flash to update to the latest bio found here https://tw.msi.com/Motherboard/H510M-BOMBER/support#down-manual 5,unplug everything in the pc and plug it back again At first the ram was running at 3200mhz however after turning it on the second time it became 2666mhz? not sure what happened but I just leave it as it is since the new gear thing that intel have is confusing Any help will be appreciated
  19. So I want to configure wake-on-lan to be able to turn on my computer from sleep from my phone. I just built this PC and the motherboard is Gigabyte B450M DS3H, which has a Realtek RTL8168/8111 network adapter built in, and it supports wake on lan according to gigabyte's website. I have installed the latest drivers for my network adapter available on gigabyte's website, I have tried older driver versions, and even grabbed the latest driver from Realtek, but the problem is still there. I have enabled the wake-on-lan setting in my BIOS, and also enabled 'Wake on magic packet' and 'shutdown wake-on-lan' in the network adapter properties. No matter what, in the power management tab of the network adapter properties, the option 'Allow this device to wake computer' is greyed out. I have tried running the command powercfg -deviceenablewake "Realtek PCIe GbE Family Controller" and used the exact device name of my ethernet adapter listed when using the powercfg 'devicequery wake_from_any command, but it returns the result "You do not have permission to enable or disable device wake", even when cmd is run as administrator. I am the sole user of this pc, and have a local administrator account. I don't know what to do here, and how to troubleshoot any further. Any help at all is appreciated.
  20. So I was trying to unplug a USB from the back of my computer but I accidentally pulled on the my Ethernet cable thinking it was the USB. I'm kinda worried that I might of damaged something. how likely is it for a rj45 jack to be damaged from a cable being pulled? I pulled pretty hard but of course the cable didn't come out because of the clip, I thought the USB was just being suborn because ive had some tough USBs before. thanks.
  21. This modem claims to have dual gigabit ports. However when I use either port I only acheive 125mbps down and that's with cat 5. So how would I bolster the signal or even possibly boost past the 1 Gbps limitation of a signal carried via analog (coax)?
  22. Hey everyone, I'm really frustrated as I can't figure out what the problem with my PC is. Quick summary: everytime I turn on my PC and start using the internet in any way (browser, steam download, Spotify etc.) my whole network just crashes completely. Non of my other devices can connect anymore and I have to reboot my router. I've tried connecting my PC over wifi with a USB dongle, the onboard Ethernet port of my Mainboard and a pci-e network card. My PC is the only device in the house which causes this issue. Any advice would be highly appreciated! Specs of my PC: Ryzen 5 3600 ASRock B450 steel legend GTX 1660 Ti
  23. I reset the CMOS because of GPU issue so I got the computer too work before and the ethernet port on the motherboard worked but after I reset CMOS no internett was detected I have tried resetting bios but that didn't work I have confirmed that the problem is not the cable. The motherboard was a aorus b550 elite v2
  24. my pc has a ethernet cable to the router but when i use a speedtest it starts around 300mbps and drops to 30 / 60 mbps. but when i connect my cable to my laptop it has a contstant 500 mbps. and when i download files it begins with 10mb/s but slowly goes to 200kb/s and then it drops to 0kb/s and after sometime it goes up to 200kb/s and it repeats.
  25. I'm having a couple of issues with my network, and I have been unable to find any details on how to resolve it. First, let me explain how my network is set up. It is setup fairly poorly, but it mostly works. Our default gateway is a Linksys LRT214 Gigabit VPN Router, that then connects to a unmanaged switch, which breaks it out to an old wifi router which is used as a wap. From there I then have a line that leads to my room (which is quite close). That line ends into another unmanaged switch which connects both my Cisco routers, a couple of 2911s, and my computer. Attached to my first Cisco router is a switch, on a subnet (192.168.33.0/25) that my NAS and a pi hook up to, and my second router for future use (through 192.168.33.248/30). The biggest issue I'm having is internet connectivity in the 192.168.33.0 subnet. It can access the broader internet, but it has a major problem with dropping packets. The packet loss only happens with internet packets. I haven't had issues with packets getting dropped on the local network. I have the routing tables set correctly, and I have added a clause to the Linksys router's ACL to allow packets through from 192.168.33.0. It seems to be intermittent, so I'm not sure what the problem is. The second issue I'm having is with cables. I've made some cables to do cleaner runs for my router, but my Cisco equipment will not establish links over the cables. I thought I wasn't terminating it correctly, but all of our other equipment does work with it. I've made sure auto MDIX is set on my Cisco gear, and I've tried using the correct cable (straight through and crossover) where needed. I have also made sure that my cabling can do the runs. I'm not sure what's wrong, so any help would be appreciated.
