So I've heard time and again that buying a GPU that was used for mining is just bad news. But with Ethereum mining on the decline and others saying it's already dead I would assume that eBay, Craigslist, etc. are going see a rise in post-consumer, ex-mining GPUs going for a small fraction of their MSRP in the near future. That being said I have a few questions: 1. Has the secondary-market been flooded with ex-mining GPUs when other cryptocurrency bubbles have popped or the "landscape" changed? e.g. When bitcoin ASIC chips became more efficient than GPUs 2. If so, do these cards typically sell for a significant markdown off of MSRP, or do people try to pass them off as though they were simply another used gaming GPU? 3. How do these ex-mining cards stack up against new, lightly, or even heavily used gaming cards in various benchmarks? 4. I've heard that video artifacts are occasionally a problem, are there other effects caused by the mining that might make these cards unsuitable/ unusable for gaming? (Other than simply killing it) 5. Might the ex-mining discount (assuming there is one) be enough to ignore some of the problems with these cards? I'd love to see a LTT video answering some or all of the above questions but getting answers from experience members of the community would be appreciated as well. Note: I'm not actually looking at buying an ex-mining card, I'm very happy with the system that I have, I've just been curious about what happens to all these GPUs following a mining craze.

I gave up on the 580 and so I thought fuck it, let's buy a 1060 but... supply and demand. I'm in a stock alerts group for the 580 and prices are firmly in the low 300 bucks which I believe to be very inflated for this GPU. Everywhere you search, there's only low end GPUs, super inflated midrange GPUs or highend GPUs. What do you guys recommend? Should I get a 580 as soon as it's available or "wait for vega" lol.

I have a spare R9 270 lying around and I was wondering how much it might sell for during this shortage of GPU's. Either to someone that wants to mine or someone that wants to game. Anyone got any price suggestions that I could sell it for?

Hi everyone, I am building an Ethereum mining rig, and I was wondering which option would be the better choice. I am stuck between either 2x Rx 580 4GB GDDR5, or 1x Rx580 8GB GDDR5. I think the 8GB one would last longer, considering that mining Ethereum is getting harder and harder, but the hash rate of 2 4GB ones would be higher. Also, what are some good motherboards and cpus for this, since I'm on a tight budget. Thanks, hellochicken

Okay, so I'm just getting into Ethereum mining, currently my GTX 1080 is doing all the work and is sitting at a solid 22.5 MH/s for Ethereum and 1100 MH/s for Siacoin. I also have a GTX 770 in my rig as well that I use occasionally to speed up my 1080 (I do 3D Rendering with Octane sometimes so it scales linearly with added GPUS) however since it only has 2GB of vram I haven't been able to get it to work for mining Ethereum. So i was looking at getting an RX 580 or some AMD card because they're top end for mining right now, however of course they're sold out EVERYWHERE. Thats when I realised that I live in a relatively small city with a much older population (scoorreeeee) so I looked online and sure enough the privately owned small computer shot here has some 580s in stock, and sure enough they haven't raised the price at all (guess they're unaware of the market status). So I'm wondering if I were to purchase a 580, would my EVGA 850 G2 PSU be able to power my 1080 and a 580 both overclocked? My other PC specs are an i7-4790K, 16GB of ram, an SSD and a HDD, an Elgato HD60 Pro, and a Corsair H115i or something. Of course I'd be dropping the GTX 770 for the 580.

After I build a new machine and reused some parts I have a pile of parts left over and I was wondering if I should mine, part out, or build a system to sell. What I have Socket 1366 Mother board (MSI X58M) I7 950 ~3.06ghz that OC to almost 4GHZ on water. 12 gb ram evga gtx 970 Meh Thermaltake case I would need to get A drive CPU Cooler PSU I could get cheap stuff from Microcenter for ~90$ not skimping on the cooler. Might be able to get an old 500w thermaltake PSU free and I have 120gb OCZ SSD I am not really using.

I heard that video cards with 2 gb of vram no longer work with mining ether. I was wondering if the mining procedure will only work with 4gb cards, or if 3gb cards will still mine. I don't really care if mining is very profitable with a 3gb card or not. I have a 660ti lying around, and power is very cheap in my area, just wanted to know if it works. Thanks in advance!

Hello, Currently I am mining with 2 GTX 780s. One gigabyte and the other reference EVGA. Both cards get the same 17.7MH/s alone, but when I mine with the two together, one hashes at 17.7 while the other does 13.6. Which card hashes at the lower speed alternates seemingly randomly. Does anybody have an idea how to fix it? I'm running it off my gaming PC i5 4690k, MSI z97 gaming 7 and a 700 watt PSU, so it should be fine. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm using windows 7 with 372.54 drivers (recommended online). I intend to add around 2 more cards VIA risers, but would want them to run at max performance, not slow like one 780 is right now. Thanks!

Pcinacan posted a topic in Folding@home, Boinc, and Coin Mining
I dont know whats wrong with my setup. Im on windows 10. I have tried old and new drivers and they all dont work. I just installed the miner on my friends computer that has a 1060 and he is getting about 18 mh/s. I also have tried different miners, but they all dont work. Something i did notice is my gpu goes to %100 like my fiends does, but the mouse is honorably laggy and makes my computer not usable at all when Every one else can still use there computer. Thanks for the help.- 12 replies

OK so, I have very recently become intrigued with this all new popular Cryptocurrency, Ethereum Coin. So i followed the guide that Tweaktown made (http://www.tweaktown.com/articles/8208/ethereum-mining-guide-part-basics-set-up/index.html) and i got it all up and running. well at least thats what i thought, I am using Awesome Miner free edition and Ethpool.org for my mining pool, and it connects great and i am able to easily get pool shares, but when I check how many shares my GPU (Galax GTX 1070 HOF) it reads zero, even after several hours. So i was wondering that if i had maybe set up miner wrong, or that i just dont have enough hash power to earn anything (averaging 28 MH/s, so says awesome miner) Someone please help as i have no idea what is going on as I am so new. I also get this when i check the diagnostics on my miner Starting Diagnostics Starting Mining Software Setting up Miner Engine. I'm using claymore's miner and I have now built up 30 shares that haven't posted over the last hour and a half, when I set up my system to mine. I have "-epool us1.ethermine.org:14444 -ewal 0x55b72F331a79FB4482D1d66d51b3Ad728D42a2a3.x79desktop" and I've checked that the address is accurate three times, it is. I've switched pools from :4444 to :14444 both of which are supposed to be valid. Im running Windows 10 x64. Any help would be greatly appreciated! ~Michael

I am trying to set up my r7 370 to mine with but I am having a strange issue. When I have it plugged straight into the motherboard it works perfectly. I have a PCie riser card (1x to 16x) that I know works properly( tested with 2 other cards). When I try to use the riser with the r7 370 the bios won't even find the card. Any suggestions? My mobo is an ASUS x370-pro.

So I've been involved with Ethereum for a few months now. Ever since Luke mentioned the floatplane project... I thought that an ICO could do a few different things for that project, it could fund it for years.... and the tokens could be indirectly purchased by advertisers to run ads on the site, Similar to the BAT token... except Floatplane site exclusive. Or other content creators could use floatplane tokens to some degree. Just my thoughts, any other ethtraders here?

Now that's just 'plane' crazy. With GPU availability (and AMD's earnings / outlook) affected by the demand by miners, some of which appear to have no trouble sourcing GPU's by the planeload, renting whole Boeing 747s to deliver stock to their mining setups. With the recent RX Vega launch - AMD's offering bundles as a method of encouraging more GPU stock to gamers - however, I doubt this is going to change the course of GPU availability significantly, particularly with miners renting entire commercial jets, so as avoid losing out on the opportunity cost when considering delivery times. The size / potential for large miners is such that the cost of renting a Boeing 747 to ship graphic cards is financially beneficial, due to the missed opportunity via other, slow delivery methods. AMD's Dr. Lisa Su touched on the effect of mining on graphics card demand during a recent earnings call. This makes me wonder - are there any references as to the percentage of sales estimated to be attributed to mining activities, commercial or otherwise? Hi! I had an RX 470 for a few months, but recently the mining craze has raised the GPU price by almost 100%. So I sell my RX 470 for a price of about 300 $ US. Now I am confused to find a replacement, miners take all the GTX 1060. I do not want to downgrade to GTX 1050 (Ti). My choices are R9 390 and GTX 980 which can be purchased in my country. Do I have to wait until the mining craze ends or I buy a GTX 980? Or even R9 390? The price of GTX 980 and R9 390 is about 200-280$ Forgive me if my English is wrong, I'm not used to English, I live in Indonesia. Thanks for replying to my thread!

I'm just looking to get into ethereum mining and looking for motherboards with a few PCI-E slots (more than 2 or 3). assuming their entry level CPU's have the lanes to support it. I've never done an AMD build so I think that would be cool. and it would help a lot if you could link me to the specifications to their AM4 spec page. Obviously, the price is a concern so I'm not going with their top of the line CPU. Alternatively, if someone has another platform to go one that offers many PCI-E slots that would be wonderful.

I'm mining zcash with a gtx 1080 and get 600 sols/s using the EWBF cuda miner. I start mining using a flypool bat file and specify my pool to be mining to the flypool us 1 in the file. However, after it starts, it loses connection, and restores connection with dwarfpool Russian server. Please help as I cannot see my worker's stats and therefore will not be getting anything back. Thanks
