Hey, so I got a Gigabyte Aorus RTX 3080 ti gaming box egpu connected to my intel nuc 12 pro, and when I play Fortnite, I get terrible performance. In Fortnite, I'm playing at the highest settings with directx12 at 2k resolution, but I get low 40s and high 30s fps, and it's a 3080 ti it can do those settings. I checked my CPU, and I believe it says it's only at 23 CPU power. Does anyone have any tips on how to fix this terrible performance loss??? here are my setup specs Intel Nuc 12 pro: 12th gen intel core i5 with 12 cores and 16 threads. Iris xe graphics. 32gb of ddr4 ram. 1tb SSD. thunderbolt 4 ports. Gigabyte Aorus RTX 3080 ti gaming box egpu. PSU wattage 550 watts 80 plus gold. thunderbolt 3. GPU water cooling

Hi everyone. I'm thinking about connecting an external gpu to my HP 15s1079eq (ryzen 4700u) through m.2 as I have no thunderbolt. Which gpu would you suggest? I've read that "high performance" gpus are pretty much usless if connected via m.2, but as I'm not an expert i would really appreciate if someone could give me an advice. Sorry for my bad english. Thanks!

Budget (including currency): Country: UK Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Other details : AMD 3900x, Nvidia 3090 FE, Nvidia 1080ti FE, ASUS Crosshair VIII Formula, Hi Guys, I've been looking around and cant find an answer to this as its not a normal use or something people would think of doing. So any thoughts or help would be great. I recently upgraded my 1080ti to a 3090. I was using my 1080ti for mining when I wasn't gaming, so I want to keep the 1080ti and mine on it 24/7. I was wondering if I could buy an eGPU enclosure to house the 1080ti, to move it out of my system for temperature and power reasons. A used eGPU would be cheaper and more power efficient than a bare bones PC. I have an Asus Crosshair VIII formula motherboard and 3900x, the mobo has a USB-C port but no thunderbolt. Can you connect a thunderbolt eGPU to a USB-C port?

Here we are. It is 2021 and hardware prices have gone through the roof. Try and squeeze more time and life out of an older purchase? Or simply wait for better times? My daughter has a Lenovo Yoga 730 2-in-1 with an i7 8550U (4 cores, 8 threads) and 16GB ram. It came with the gtx1050 option. It has TB3 as well. It's still a decent laptop for her creative uses but she's just beginning to become more interested in gaming. Light gaming to be clear. A fairly bad time for this to happen as we all know. But there is some good news to this. I do have an RTX 2060 KO Ultra doing absolutely nothing. I also have a cheapo 1080p 144Hz TN panel that is also doing nothing. I'm wondering if picking up something like a Razer Core X for less than $400CAD would be a decent way of both giving her the means to play some light gaming with her friends while keeping the money spent to a minimum until things are somewhat back to normal. She's more interested in a new desktop than me getting her another laptop, just so you know. And I agree with her. But not now. I've seen other threads here with this processor paired with 1070 based eGPU's. Those threads are old though and rules are rules. So a new thread it is. I would expect the 2060 to probably perform about the same? I think?? I hope? I don't expect to get the full performance out of the 2060 but if anyone has any experience with a similar processor and a 2060 or even 10 series over TB3, your shared experiences or other insights would be greatly appreciated.. I don't want to throw money away and would rather wait if this config is even remotely terrible. Cheers!

Hi! I am thinking about connecting an eGPU through my PCIe networking card (which is a gen 1) but i have found not much information about connecting a GPU with higher bandwith than gen 1 PCIe, and was wondering if this badly affects the output (i found a forum in wich people said there was no big difference but i doubt that). Hoping someone can give me this info

Hi, I'm trying to find out what generation is my PCIe slot, currently occupied by the wifi card. I've checked the info for my laptop (hp15s1079eq with ryzen 4700u) but I found nothing on the internet. Here are 2 photos: photo 1) the pcie on the motherboard photo 2) an info I found on the device manager for the connection card (it translates to " specified version PCIe"), but I'm not sure that's what I was looking for. Hope some pro can give me a hand Thanks

Hi all, I have a Lenovo Ideapad with 8gb DDR4 and a 10th gen i5. Pretty decent stuff for gaming. Problem is, it only has Intel HD graphics. I have a beautiful rig with a 2070 Super at home, but it's a pain taking my PC setup with me to college. For some reason, I have seen back and forth information on what kinds of laptops can actually be compatible with an e-GPU. My laptop has a USB-C port, so is that good enough? Does it have to be a certain kind of port? If so, what kind of port do I need to be able to use an external GPU?

I have a Lenovo Idea pad 330 laptop with specs as follows: processor: intel I3 8th gen graphics: Integrated UHD 620 ram: 8gb both slots used storage : 1TB HDD (planning for SSD as primary and hdd will replace the dvd slot) I wish to upgrade the graphics card to 750 ti (at least its better than having none) i am kinda inexperienced with gpu riser adapter cards. Will this do the job :(cheap 1000 Rs card) https://www.amazon.in/dp/B09HTQHLS4/ref=sspa_dk_hqp_detail_aax_0?psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUExTFM3MExSRlo2TEsxJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwMDg3NTU5V05YMUlEVUdEUzBXJmVuY3J5cHRlZEFkSWQ9QTAwMjg5NTRXVFlYRDJRQlE5NDEmd2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9ocXBfc2hhcmVkJmFjdGlvbj1jbGlja1JlZGlyZWN0JmRvTm90TG9nQ2xpY2s9dHJ1ZQ== Or I have to buy the one shown in every YouTube video so far : Independent Video Card Graphics Dock (costs 5000 Rs) https://www.amazon.in/Festnight-External-Independent-Graphics-Version/dp/B07QBLD5BR/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=Independent%2BVideo%2BCard%2BGraphics%2BDock&qid=1638435221&s=electronics&sr=1-1&th=1 Major Question is will EGPU be better than giving up on expectations from this laptop i own and wait for some pc build or new laptop. also how much of a boost i should expect coz i can turn on some games like valorant and play practice area keeping everything lowest and reducing resolution to 800x... Will i be able to enter match making and play online with 60 Fps if i do all this struggle of getting GPU.

Hi guys, Does anybody know if there is a recent external GPU enclosure that would be able to handle an RTX2070 and provide 130w of power to my laptop over a single usb-C cable? It seems most enclosures have 100w limit to power the laptop. I could of course just plug in the power adapter to the laptop but for convenience it would be really nice to just be one cable. Thx for the efforts!

Budget (including currency): theoretical 1500 usd Country: global Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: gaming. Schoolwork. Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): so Idea is this to in practicality make desktops version of Nintendo switch where you can take and play on your pc/console anywhere you want and when you are home to dock your handheld and connect it to an eGPU which in turn is connected to complete setup: full sized monitor, keyboard, mouse and so on. Part that I have problem is that I could not determine which one of new handheld windows machines do the things I want to do; Specifically to have good enough cpu to handle the workload of multi monitor and be able to use eGpu.

Hey, I have a small problem with my Egpu Laptop config, I recently got a Dell Latitude 5320 from work and bought a used Razer Core X and GTX 1080 for it. The problem is that when I connect the Egpu to the laptop it does not automatically turn off the Iris XE integrated graphics which causes severe lag in games and on the desktop. In order to fix this I always manually need to disable the Integrated Graphics in Device Manager. How do I make it so that I do not have to manually turn the Integrated Graphics on and off ? Here links to all components used : Laptop: https://www.dell.com/de-de/work/shop/2-in-1-laptops/latitude-5320/spd/latitude-13-5320-2-in-1-laptop/s005l532013deat GPU : Inno3d Ichill Herculez x3 GTX 1080 (Couldn't find the official website) Egpu: https://www.razer.com/de-de/gaming-egpus/razer-core-x/RC21-01310200-R351 Thanks for any advice in adavance

Hey everyone, I recently setup an external GTX760 graphics card on my HP Envy 15 j0011 laptop for about $150.00. I did it with the help of the youtube video below...very helpful! I've got all the external components required, mounted on a board and attached to my AV cart below the top shelf. (See my pics below). I did it to achieve better video editing performance, as I'm not really a gamer. I've noticed a huge difference compared to the integrated "Intel HD 4000" video chip! If you have an old laptop and you don't want to spend lots of money to upgrade...I think it's worth doing. Just keep in mind the card is running on a single lane (1x) pci-e slot previously used by the wlan card, so you're not going to get desktop performance...but, still way better than the laptop's integrated video chip! My video showing egpu config. Current laptop components: i5-3230m processor 16GB ram 240 GB SSD 750 GB external HD via USB 3.0 Let me know if you have any questions! - Daren

Hey everyone, I'm new here and was wondering if I could get some help. I have a hp zbook studio G3. Comes with Nvidia 1000m. So pretty bad. I want to use an EGPU set up via T3 connection. Is there an avenue where I don't have to sell my parents to get it set up?

So recently a friend of mine gave me his old GPU ( MSI GTX 970 ) and I want to use it on my Lenovo Ideapad 320 15IKB. I heard that I need a PCI Dock in order to use the eGPU. So I wanted to know which PCI Docks are compatible with my GPU and where I could find them. Thank You

Hello! As I will be starting my university education this autumn, I plan on upgrading my computer. At first, I thought about getting a gaming laptop but then remembered that eGPUs are a thing and that they would (in theory) suit me better because: gaming laptops are, at least to my knowledge, either bulky or have bad thermal performance I would only really need to game at home so the extra weight would be quite bothersome I already have a GTX 1070 that I wouldn't mind using for a couple more years to come (in my current desktop I have an i7 3770k) Which of the 2 would you recommend me and why? Could you recommend me a gaming laptop or a laptop with an eGPU case for under 1800 Euros (or *slightly* more)? (I would like a current gen Ryzen 7 or i7 if that is possible within my budget.) Also, though this is slightly off topic, are current gen AMD processors better than Intel ones for laptops? (I am asking because I noticed that laptops mostly come with Intel processors.)

Hello So I have an Asus Zenbook Flip 13 UX363 and need Dock/ eGPU in order to connect: 2-3 Monitors (nr. irrelevant because it plugs into gpu) 4x USB Peripherals (mouse, keyboard, webcam, fingerprint reader) 1x Ethernet cable I search for something that would connect with only 1 Thunderbolt cable for power and data The laptop has Thunderbolt 4 so the dock can take advantage of that or be TB3 I searched and didn't find something suitable beside the Razer Core X Chroma Do I have any more options?

Here's the deal, I'm a gamer and vr developer, I need a powerful laptop I can bring around with me on the go but also can connect to an external GPU via Thunderbolt 3. I've used Razer in the past but they pretty much break (or battery's begin to inflate) exactly a year after purchasing (this has happened to 3 of our work laptops). I like their small portable form-factor though Then we switched to Alienware, which are pretty powerful but I haven't particularly liked their support and they're GINORMOUS, I can't fit it in a reasonably sized backpack. I don't want to carry around one of those ever again I wanted to try one of the Microsoft Surface products but it looks like none of them support thunderbolt 3 for external GPUs Just looking for a reasonable form factor, has a decent CPU & GPU, can plugin to an external GPU via TB3. Anyone else have a similar need to me and had a lot of success with a particular laptop/ brand?

I was watching Linus' video from 2019 "No, THIS is the CLEANEST Setup." and decided that something similar would be my next setup project. However, I cannot seem to find the Akitio Node Pro for sale anywhere. Is there another product that has similar capabilities that's at a friendly price? P.S. Sorry if this is the wrong category to post this in.

Hello there! I recently received my order of a Dell XPS 17 9700, equipped with a 10th gen i9, 32 GB of ram, a 1 TB SSD, the 1920 * 1200p display, and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 Max-Q graphics card. I've been playing a few games for now (Minecraft, Batman Arkham Origins, and the new Resident Evil Village) and have been mostly satisfied with the performance. However, knowing that the display on my XPS 17 is only 60 Hz, and that playing new AAA titles with Ray-Tracing on translates to frame rates below 60 FPS (sometimes dropping to mid 40's or less), I've been considering buying an ePGU to handle these demanding games at higher frame rates and so I can experience the added frames on a monitor with higher refresh rates (like, for example, on a 1080p or 1440p, 144 Hz monitor). Though, I'm not sure where to look for an eGPU, and what graphics card to put inside it. Now, before you read any further, I'm aware that I could've bought a dedicated gaming laptop with a 30-series graphics card and other similar specs, however I was just in love with the design of the XPS 17 - especially coming from Apple computers for most of my life - and I was able to get a pretty good deal for my spec (I was able to get mine for around $2,200, whereas if one were to spec my laptop now, it'd run in the ballpark of $2,800 to $2,900). And plus, even though I know some of these 30-series laptops aren't too thick, I'm also in love with the keyboard and trackpad of the XPS 17, and I love the 16:10 screen ration with it's ultra-thin bezels. I should also mention that even though I've recently been using my laptop for gaming, my main intension was to use this for my Engineering applications and software when I transfer into College as a freshman in undergrad (so stuff like MATLAB, CAD, etc.). My professors recommended an i5 and 8 GB of ram at minimum, though they recommended an i7 and 16 GB of ram. I wanted to go overkill with an i9 and 32 GB of ram so that this laptop could last me 4+ years. And plus, with all the money I saved through High School working part time, I wanted to splurge a bit, especially knowing that my electronics setup would only eat through a quarter or less of my savings. Though, with my XPS 17 in particular, I was a little weary about the GPU. After talking with two Dell Customer Support people, both told me that it isn't recommended to run an eGPU with my XPS 17 because of the power requirements needed to run the eGPU, which may cause some issues with my motherboard. But, knowing that some eGPU's, like the Razer Core X, has a power supply built into it, and can even charge my laptop when connected (though, I'm not sure about this, please correct me if needed), I wouldn't think I'd run into these issues, especially knowing that I've seen multiple reviews/ videos - including from LTT - about pairing smaller ultrabooks like the Razer Stealth (or whatever the 13 or 14 inch model is, Linus did a review 3 years ago with an eGPU), the XPS 15, and I even want to say the XPS 13 with eGPUs, while experiencing no issues relating to the motherboard. So, if I find an eGPU with a built-in power supply, will I run into any motherboard issues, or any other issues with my XPS 17? If anyone with experience on running XPS models with an eGPU would like to share, that would be extremely helpful. Following this question, if you do recommend an eGPU for my case, what graphics card should I pair with it? I'm aware that it may not be the smartest option to but a 30-series considering the current shortage, so I thought something like the 2080, 2080 super, or 2080 Ti would do well, maybe even a Titan RTX. Again, if any of you can help with this, I will be greatly appreciative. Even if you folks don't recommend an eGPU, do you folks also have any recommendations for high refresh rate monitors? Looking for 1440p, at least 120 Hz (though, preferably 144 or higher), and size doesn't matter, so long as it's not e x t r e m e l y big. Don't care about price, so just shout away.

(Important details are bolded and underlined) Hi there, For a while now, I've been pretty happy with my Dell XPS 17 9700, as my gaming experiences have been pretty good, especially considering I was a console gamer beforehand. My laptop is specifically equipped with an i9-10885H, 32 GB of memory, a 1 TB SSD, the base 1920 * 1200p, 60 Hz display, and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 Max-Q. I've been playing Resident Evil 8 at 1080p (or since my laptop has a 16:10 screen ratio, 1200p) medium/ high settings at a consistent/ exceeding 60 FPS, though knowing that I may want to play more power/ graphics intensive games in the future, and on a high refresh rate monitor to experience high refresh rates, I think I'm pretty set on getting an eGPU for my XPS 17, likely equipped with a 2070 desktop GPU or higher (in terms of performance, or at least one that has 8 GB of memory or more). I know that even though I ordered this recently, I won't be able to get the new 3060-equipped version when it comes out because my 30-day full refund offer won't extend until it releases, though I may want to try to negotiate with a Dell representative to see if I can do this. However, I'll still primarily be focused on the eGPU since I know this likely won't happen. In terms of performance with an eGPU, I know that the XPS 17 I have already runs pretty warm without one, though when I place this on a cooling stand/ laptop stand with fans, it seems to run much cooler. A Dell representative also told me that its not recommended to run an XPS 17 with an eGPU because it could damage the motherboard, though they said it was because it would draw too much power from it (and plus, it'll probably get pretty darn hot, too). I believe that through my cooling stand and that the Razer eGPU receives power from an outlet, and not my laptop, I wouldn't run into these issues. So all in all, do you folks here on the forums recommend me to get an eGPU for my XPS 17, because even though I know I can get a lot more bang-for-the-buck if I just built a tower, I just couldn't compromise knowing that I'll need to take my work with me on the go since I'll be going to college for Mechanical Engineering soon. Plus, I got a really good deal on my XPS 17 (I wanna say $2,200-$2,300 USD before taxes and shipping), and if I were to spec one now, it would cost around $2,900 before shipping (so well over $3,000 after taxes and shipping), and I just generally value this laptop so much compared to other, more gamer-centric laptops, and other high-cost laptops, too. In addition, I've also saved a boat load of money from working part time jobs throughout high school, so my whole computer setup will only cost less than a fifth of my savings (I predict ~$3,200-$3,500, including my XPS 17, a monitor, the eGPU setup, and accessories). I was also considering that if I get a top-of the line 20-series graphics card, I could possibly use it in a tower setup if I decide to build one in the future, or even so, I could probably resell it for a decent sum of money (though I'm aware that I probably won't make money off of it like most people have with NVIDIA GPU's over the past year).

I am currently running a studio 1737 as my daily driver laptop, for most things it is pretty good. (that is once I got an ssd, and upgraded the CPU) however I would like to make an eGPU for when I am at hotels and stuff (when that starts happening again) and want to do some light gaming on the laptop. The only expansion slot that will support a gpu of some kind is an expresscard 1.0 slot on the side. I was thinking of using my old 9800gt, but I would like to get some input from the community on what actually will get good performance when bottlenecked over a low speed link, such as express card 1.0 I am looking for good price to performance ratio. Also, does anybody know what the best value expresscard to PCIe adapter is? (i doubt that it needs to be too high quality considering it will be running at 1.0 speeds) and yes, I know buying any gpu now is not exactly easy, or fun, that is why I was thinking of using my 9800gt thanks in advance:)
